Title: What would you ask? Part 3
Description: Interview questions

justin boggan - September 21, 2006 01:54 AM (GMT)
As those of you who recall, this is the thrid thread. The first:

http://www.scorereviews.com/forum/topic.asp?id=2121&page=1

Led up to an interview with Gabriel Yared, and the second:

Marc Shaiman. I’m a dumbass, by the way. ;-)

Anyway, while it’s too early to mention the name, I just want to give you a heads up so you can formulate any basic questions. When the time comes and I’ve typed everything up, gotten a blank tape, and it’s about five days before, I’ll come back and let you know who -- then hurry with the questions.

:)

when did you decide to become a composer, especially a filmcomposer?

justin boggan - October 12, 2006 03:02 PM (GMT)
You have about a week to get your questions ready (skipping hte obvious ones) for Craig Safan. :)

Anakin McFly - October 12, 2006 06:11 PM (GMT)
Questions to Craig Safan :

Will you get back to the big screen in a near future and especially in the field of SF/adventure scores like THE LAST STARFIGHTER and REMO WILLIAMS ?

Why didn't you score THE BOY WHO COULD FLY, TAP and DENNIS THE MENACE by Nick Castle, considering you scored almost all of his other movies ?

Amongst all of your scores, what's the one you're the most proud of ?

Do you listen to modern film music ? which composers/scores do you like to listen to ? What do you think of modern film music in general, compared to the film music in the 80's ?

It would be interesting to find out more about the way Safan approaches themes and melody and where he thinks a theme is important or needs to be developed. For example, his Last Starfighter theme is excellent and remo williams has a great theme, too. I am especially interested in Last Starfighter which is a primary example for a dynamite theme. How did he come up with it? Was there a big temp track which dictated the musical direction in this case?

Not sure if my questions make sense, Justin. If you want, you can formulate your own questions from my text above. I am sure you can express it better ;)

tharpdevenport - October 17, 2006 05:23 PM (GMT)
You got until Thursday morning. Hurry.

Toby The Swede - October 18, 2006 05:09 PM (GMT)
Mr. Safan, if someone who is not familiar with your music got the assignment to compile ten (10) cues from various scores that you have done. Which cues/tracks should be on this compilation? And why?

with many regards from Sweden
Tobias Borjesson

Second chance -- interview post-poned to next week.

Lukasz Waligorski - October 20, 2006 04:48 PM (GMT)
Was there any inspiration with Star Wars in composing The Last Starfighter?

justin boggan - February 7, 2007 03:00 AM (GMT)
Still a chance. ;)

justin boggan - April 3, 2007 08:07 PM (GMT)
Found out Hotmail failed to deliver my e-mails to both composers, so I resent them and Safan's is done; should be up later tonight or tomorrow.
