Title: The Lookout
ESB - December 9, 2006 09:54 PM (GMT)
Release date is finally known. It seems this film will open March 23, 2007. This should be James' next project.
ESB - January 3, 2007 12:12 PM (GMT)
Official site is up with only 1 intro page for now:

Hm, by looking at that page I sense another freedomland type of beat-noir score coming, maybe with a more action-oriented approach. Well, let's see what James will do with it.

Nice that one of my favorite composers will have his next film`s premiere on the same date as my mom`s birthday

Oh, I also forgot to post that his score for this has also been recorded.
ESB - January 19, 2007 09:53 AM (GMT)
Official site has been updated. And it looks like it features a bit of music of what seems to be from a brooding JNH score.

I expect a modern and cool score for this movie.
justin boggan - January 21, 2007 03:11 AM (GMT)
According to this site: chriscozens.com
The score was recorded in September.
Damn, why haven't we had a leak by now?

Maybe because no release of any kind has been announced yet that could have been leaked.

A first look at the movie was posted on
aintitcool.comThat guy is very positive about the film and I know from his other items that he is a hard to please critic!
Strange that there is still no word on an album release of James' score.
Demetris Christodoulides - February 5, 2007 03:29 PM (GMT)
"Also, the soundtrack for The Lookout will be released as iTunes exclusive download on Hollywood Records featuring music by James Newton Howard."

Listen to the sound clips on iTunes, they are very cool...

Sounds good yes. Here's an URL for people who don't want to spend a lot of time searching it on iTunes:
http://musicstore.connect.com/album/684/Ja...0021888517.htmlStrangely enough other sites like Amazon still don't mention a thing about The Lookout score. It should be released today

Probably because this is a download only release and won't be issued on CD. That's at least what I heard. No CD release is planned.
ESB - March 23, 2007 06:15 PM (GMT)
I asked and it is indeed an iTunes only release. Also note that it is an US release, so you need to buy it at the US iTunes store. Quite remarkable.
ESB - March 23, 2007 06:44 PM (GMT)
I just found out that I can only buy music at the Dutch iTunes score and they don't have it. I also noticed some sites that mention they only sell it to people living in the US. What the hell is this?! Apple is some strange company. Music that is forbidden to people outside the US. What kind of absurdity is this? :fury:
Does anyone who lives in Europe managed to buy the score?
Panthera - April 19, 2007 12:47 AM (GMT)
If you logged in as someone who says they live in the US would it let you download it?
ESB - May 15, 2007 08:46 PM (GMT)
No, I don't think so. Your iTunes account is registered with your credit card data and that should say where you live. There must be a reason for this ridiculous situation. Why can't people from Europe or other countries outside the US buy this score? Does anyone know? I cannot imagine Apple wants this because it will mean less money for them. Probably some absurd law for download releases because I can buy CDs at Amazon.
And did anyone hear the full score yet?
Lee Hayward - May 16, 2007 06:39 PM (GMT)
A good friend of mine purchased it on my behalf and I have to say that the score is pretty cool. Half of the music is quite thrilling, the other quite soothing. I can understand why some people may not go mad over it but I think it's a worthy effort to be appreciated.

You aren't missing too much. I don't think the music is anything special. It isn't that it is bad. I just don't think it has anything memorable about it.
Sven - March 4, 2008 02:08 PM (GMT)
(New here, by the way) ;)
Even though some of you guys think we Europeans aren't missing much....I am trying to collect all of JNH's scores, so this iTunes USA only release really annoys me... :/

Hello guys,
I am somewhat of an OST collector and fortunately I found this forum that might answer a burning question regarding the score:
It seems that the digital download is not complete. Specifically the end credits track is not the same version as the one on the movie. Any ideas on where/how/if I can obtain the real deal? It's pretty frustrating, I'm this close to buying the dvd and ripping the audio track to listen to!
richuk - April 7, 2008 09:12 PM (GMT)
I didn't think the credits music was on the CD. It's a little while since I saw the movie, but it was either a song or an edit of score cues.
daydr3am3r - April 7, 2008 10:04 PM (GMT)
True. End credits are missing also, but the song before those (to be forgiven) is edited as well on the cd. I am not sure of other omissions, but for those two I'm positive. I have made an audio track out of the dvd for the movie's version of "to be forgiven" and the end credits like I said, for anyone who wants it (if I'm breaking any rules of conduct let me know), pm me :)
