Title: Film music is almost dead.

What's happening? What a lousy year :/ . The only score I really like this year is "September Dawn" by William Ross.
I can't believe this, it's half year and I don't have at least three favorite scores.
I hope JNH will save the year in December with "Waterhorse" and "I Am Legend".

My absolute favourites so far are both chris young scores. Too bad spiderman 3 wont get released, a real shame. At least i had the opportunity to listen to his music at soncinemad, especially the live performance of the rejected love theme was very cool. Debneys Evan Almighty is good too and i really enjoyed jane antonia cornish's music for island of lost souls.
However, I also think that the best scores are still to come in the second half of this year. The beowulf suite of the silvestri concert introduced it as a strong contender for best score of the year and there are several JNH scores coming up.

At least we have something to wait for.

Don't miss Marc Shaiman's energetic musical HAIRSPRAY. In my opinion the best soundtrack of 2007 so far !

so far i haven't been very excited about the music that's been coming out lately. i really miss those days when some seriously outrages and bold scores would come out and would make me super jelouse and obsessed with it at the same time. James newton had some awesome scores until king kong. Hans Zimmer is running out of ideas lately. Howard shore hasn't done anything as beautiful as lord of the rings. John Williams keeps bringing back old stuff. sorry for the rant. as a composer i always look up to these people for inspirations. maybe i moved on from that level but i really believe in them. :)

I must admit I have also lost my enthusiasm for film music that I had so much in the 90s. There are very few composers that I think are interesting enough to follow nowadays. Actually nowadays for me only Alan, James and John Williams. Nothing to look forward to from Goldsmith, Poledouris, Barry and Morricone anymore. Also Horner and Arnold have lost it a bit and don't get the biggest projects anymore. I already said it on this forum, I think the new composers are not that talented anymore. Maybe some new brilliant talent will emerge some day. I surely hope so.
But I think it's also the fault of the industry who is asking more for bland and inconspicuous music. Bold scores are rare nowadays. Great melodies even more rare. It's a sad and strange trend. It seems it gets worse every year.

However, it seems like a good year on the paper :
