Surely you've heard some of his music in film. That's good enough. ;)

Justin - Who lacks several key JHN scores... :hmm:

Yes, we are :) .

tjguitar - November 17, 2005 05:25 PM (GMT)
to be honest I haven't heard much from JNH. I like what I've heard though. Waterworld is fantastic, easily #1, one of my favorite 90s scores.

I also enjoy Vertical Limit and Batman Begins. Dante's Peak is good, but I'm not sure how much of the score was by JNH.

I have The Interpreter, but I haven't warmed to it yet.

On my list to get next is Outbreak and of course King Kong.

He wrote the main theme (clearly heard in "On The Porch") and some other cues. Check out my site for which cues contain music of him:

Sorry but this is not THE typical and best James Newton Howard score...I even never accepted it as an Howard score.....! ;)
People who like Batman Begins and associate it with James, have no idea how James sounds like! :D

tjguitar - November 18, 2005 12:45 AM (GMT)
Didn't say it was a typical JNH score, but it obviously has his influences. I think its a good score, no matter who wrote it.

Yes at some of the emotional parts....but it doesn't sound like James at all the score!

Nice list, Lee.

Thanks. You know, I never expected Treasure Planet to be so high up on my list, but it is such a great score. I love the 'Silver Leaves', it's so sad. The action cues are pretty amazing as well.

ESB - January 3, 2006 09:36 PM (GMT)
Yup. Strangely Treasure Planet is one of the most underrated scores there is. Fantastic score. His best Disney effort.

Here's an earlier thread about the score:

BigMacGyver - January 3, 2006 09:55 PM (GMT)
So many good opinions of this score that i decided to get it (and complete the unofficial JNH/Disney trilogy in my collection).

Lee Hayward - January 3, 2006 10:17 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the link. Many reviewers regarded it as Howard's weaker Disney effort but I couldn't disagree more. It is amazing.

ESB - January 4, 2006 12:08 AM (GMT)
