Title: BTTF in The Kid
Description: portion of BTTF score in Disney movie?

We just rented "Disney's The Kid" (2000), with Bruce Willis and Spencer Breslin.

In the movie when the red plane was flying, there were a few bars of music that were distinctly similar -- identical, really -- to the music in "Back to the Future" when the DeLorean car was taking off.

But I didn't see any attribution to BTTF or to Mr. Silvestri. What happened there?

The Kid is a marc shaiman score and the guy really does need no excuse for such excellent homages. It's really just a clever nodd of appreciation and nothing to worry about. Maybe it was even the directors wish to have such a homage in there.

Thanks, BigMac...

Would you know anything about the red-color symbolism that was used in the film? It was the same symbolism used in M. Night Shyamalan's "Sixth Sense"-- also with Bruce Willis and a supernatural young boy character.

A splash of bright red color heralded the appearance of the supernatural character in both movies. In "The kid" it was the color of the airplane and the kid's jacket, often the rest of the scene being sepia or earth-toned.

Yet, again, there was no attribution to the earlier movie (1999). Do you know what gives there?

Thanks again,
Norah

It's interesting that you mention that because I never really noticed that before. Not sure if this is an intentional connection. Probably not because the expression of things with certain colours is a very common thing. In this case it might just accidentally happen to be the same colour in two movies that also share the same lead actor. Just a wild guess. I really don't know.

Marc Shaiman is really a great guy, and boy I love all of his scores. I've never seen The Kid and even less heard the score since the CD has never seen the light of day. But you brought it to my attention now ! Thanks.
