Title: Delta Force re-released (and sold-out)!
Description: Intrada has a top seller!

BigMacGyver - June 13, 2008 11:18 PM (GMT)
From Intradas Roger Feigelson:

QUOTE
The Signature Edition release is a 1986 action film. Interesting that it was originally released on LP. Then later on CD, but truncated so it could be squeezed on with another score. Here it is expanded to the complete score, significantly longer than the LP, remixed from the original multi-track elements.

Well, lets compare these clues to delta force:

1986 action film? check
originally released on lp? check
later on cd, shortened, with another score? check

Looks good enough if you ask me. But if this is a signature edition you may want to act fast because they rarely exceed 1000 units and delta force is a much requested score. I'll stay up to make sure I can secure a copy.

Anakin McFly - June 15, 2008 06:39 PM (GMT)
I would be happy if it was Delta Force and it does fit the clue (but I think many other scores could easily fit).
But Intrada has never been interested in publishing Silvestri's music and their only try (Amazing Stories put apart) was a failure : Judgment Night's 2000 copies are still in stock 3 years later. Plus, Intrada seems to focus on orchestral scores only (or blend of orchestra and synth in some cases). For instance, they've released only orchestral scores from Richard Band, never the synthetic ones, and there's many of them.
So I don't think the idea of releasing a sometimes controversial synthetic score from a not so well selling composer has come up in Intrada's staff...
Labels even hesitate to publish a Back to the Future score, so what about Delta Force ?

If it ends up to be Delta Force, Intrada is my hero label for sure !

I have been thinking really hard about any alternatives but theres nothing that really fits as good as delta force. What scores exactly are you thinking about?

Anakin McFly - June 15, 2008 07:42 PM (GMT)
None in fact. But I wouldn't have thought it was Delta Force by myself neither, since I don't know much about action scores LPs of that time...

BigMacGyver - June 15, 2008 08:25 PM (GMT)
Anyways, I am greatly looking forward to the album. Even though i agree that it may not be one of alan's best and I am generally lukewarm towards his synth stuff, it has a cool main theme that i always wanted to own in official form without having to pay a fortune on the milan cd.

I am also pretty sure that this will sell like hot cakes and hopefully makes more silvestri from intrada possible.

Are you sure its hesitancy?

I somehow doubt it.

If they could, one would think they'd be all over it.

Me too, they are simply not able to release it yet. YET!

Anakin McFly - June 16, 2008 07:58 AM (GMT)
They managed to do many Universal titles now (The Burbs, Amazing Stories, Monsignor, Harry and the Hendersons, etc). And still no BTTF. Plus labels like Intrada are sick of BTTF guessing in their clue games and it's easy to see that BTTF is far fom their preoccupations when they speak about it.

Though most of these are from MCA LP reissues, thus not really related to Universal's filmmusic catalogue and none of these had still in-print and still top selling song albums as it is the case with BTTF.

I think the reason why they are sick of BTTF guessing is simply because they are unable to do anything about it right now as the rights, re-use fees and licencing situation is still too expensive and too complicated to solve, reasons which have been pointed out over and over again by people like doug fake or lukas kendall and yet the fans keep expecting this score whenever a new limited edition is around the corner that certainly took a lot of effort to produce in its own right.

If I would be a record producer, I would probably find this situation really annoyingly unsatisfying myself.

At least Doug and Roger are doing their best to provide us with more transparency on the process of these CD productions but i think more clarifying is necessary to make fans understand that its not a walk in the park to get this stuff out. Recently, varese got out a box set of rejected music from elmer bernstein, which involved a joint venture with the bernstein estate and dealing with Disney and the related sub companies buena vista and miramax. First reports of the production have reached me in october 2005, almot three years ago, so this set took certainly longer to secure and produce. Intrada has only quite recently startet to re-issue titles from MCA (in fact, just a bit more than one year ago), including the occasional complete like Alien or Harry and the Hendersons, so give it some time and i am sure we may get lucky one day.

There is one thing that these productions need and this is time.

Anakin McFly - June 16, 2008 09:26 AM (GMT)
Yeah I agree. It's about time. ;)

I'm not an expert, but how would a 25 years long selling pop songs album could fear any harm from a 3000 copies limited CD that would sell in one day to a crazy bunch of fans who already own the pop album since 20 or 15 years ? LOL
Or do the labels expect to release it as a non limited CD ? If it's impossible, the choice of a limited edition is unavoidable. Universal's vault has ben cracked, musician fees are much lower now (even more when the score is more than 20 years old), people have been begging for a complete score CD for years now. Zemeckis, Silvestri, Spielberg, Bob Gale, they all agree that this CD should exist. So what's hapenning ? The masters are lost ? The labels don't care ? Universal wants to annoy everybody ?

It would not harm the sales of the album, yet the existence of that very album means that the license is secured and in use and the owner of these rights can decide how his material is used. If MCA or whoever owns the bttf rights is not willing to license to intrada because they see no reason, then intrada can't do anything about it. I am sure the main reason why the rights holder does not give it away is that the bttf rights are a precious little thingy (as the original soundtrack proofed) and they simply expect a fair amount of cash in the future in whatever way possible, so they better not waste the opportunity by licensing to a small label which would only produce a limited quantity run. They are holding off to make more cash, the only problem is they dont know yet how to make that cash.

QUOTE

Nope, not universal but UMG.

QUOTE

I dont know the exact figure but i think the score has to be 25 or 27 years old to apply for significantly lower fees. BTTF is only 23 years old now. But I can imagine there must already apply some sort of lowered rate by now.

QUOTE

Same case with temple of doom. I am sure intrada would love to release a complete edition but the rights went to someone else who markets worldwide and only re-issues. The large crowd does not care for the term "complete" when it comes to scores and thats the problem. In fact, they hardly even care about the "score" per se.

So, to underline my point, i dont think this absence of a bttf release from intrada is intradas fault. Just look at the facts, we have a successful, much requested score to a beloved franchise that repeatedly made top dollar. You can be sure that Intrada would release something if they could and if it would be so easy, only to benefit from these aspects. I mean, it would be pretty damn stupid business policy not to release this score just because they aren't interested in it or because they think that the score is not good enough for their label. How can anyone not be interested in that, seriously?

goomba - June 16, 2008 03:20 PM (GMT)
If Intrada releases The Delta Force tomorrow, I just hope it will sell well (and maybe give the opportunity to some buyers to put Judgment Night in their basket too), and will permit other SIlvestri releases, especially totally unreleased scores...

Uh, I don't think being "sick of BTTF guessing" is going to prevent a label from releasing a CD that would make them a whole lot of money.

justin boggan - June 16, 2008 07:27 PM (GMT)
Amazing Stories was Amblin Entertainment.

The Burbs -- didn't they still have the rigths to that?

Anakin McFly - June 16, 2008 08:56 PM (GMT)
Amblin was in deal with Universal. BTTF was Amblin as well.

tjguitar - June 16, 2008 09:16 PM (GMT)
Its gotta be Delta Force.

I mean, they already have the main title uploaded!:

Ordered !

BigMacGyver - June 17, 2008 07:10 AM (GMT)
Same here. This baby is ordered and i did not know there were more than 70 minutes of score in this movie! Wow.

BigMacGyver - June 17, 2008 08:03 AM (GMT)
Any guesses on how long this will take to sell out? :D

I think it will just be around for 48 hours... 3 days max. The resonance in the forums is very big and mainly positive.

goomba - June 17, 2008 08:12 AM (GMT)
It'd be a good thing that this one sell out fast, and I hope some buyers will take a copy of Judgment Night at the same time. I'd like Intrada (or others) to release more Silvestri... like Anakin said, American Anthem would make a splendid cd :smoke:

Anakin McFly - June 17, 2008 11:40 AM (GMT)
I would be very happy if Delta Force was a fast seller ! But alas, I know too many people that just don't like 80's synth scores and won't even think about buying one. I think it will sell out, of course, but in a reasonably long time... I hope I'll be wrong.

goomba - June 17, 2008 01:56 PM (GMT)
Yep... we will see in a few days if the Intrada crew will warn about the fast selling of this one.

EDIT: Delta Force is out of stock on the intrada website !

BigMacGyver - June 17, 2008 03:33 PM (GMT)
It's sold OUT people! Get yours from SAE while you can. This is sure going to become a hot collectible!

goomba - June 17, 2008 03:42 PM (GMT)
Sold out at SAE too
It surely won't last long in the other retail stores...

Anakin McFly - June 17, 2008 03:55 PM (GMT)
I was wrong !!! :yahoo:
And happy to be, this is very very surprising !

We can now hope there are more Silvestri to come from Intrada !

BigMacGyver - June 17, 2008 05:20 PM (GMT)
Less than 24 hours until total sell out. That's a new signature edition sell-out record, folks. What baby, secret of the lost legend was for the special collection is delta force now for the signature series.

Anakin McFly - June 17, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
And now they're all complaining about being fans who missed the CD and blaming Intrada for it...
I mean "fans" ? fans of what ? fans of limited out of print CDs ?
The Alan Silvestri fans aren't supposed to be on this board, reading for about a few days now that Delta Force is going to be re-released by Intrada ? :right: or at least on Intrada's board, checking for Roger's clues and learning some days ago that Delta Force was going to be released at a very specific hour on this very specific day ?

tjguitar - June 17, 2008 10:15 PM (GMT)
well, we haven't heard from a lot of the regulars, so its very possible that members here missed out on it. A bummer if they did.

goomba - June 18, 2008 09:45 AM (GMT)
Yep, I don't post much, but I surely come here regularly when a new Intrada or other release is in the news, to check what you guys think of what it could be...
Seems like some Silvestri fans should come here more often.
Anakin, on the Intrad board, you posted that you missed Baby. Are you still interested ? Because I think Luc Van de Ven had some copies in stock in his mail-order store.

ESB - June 18, 2008 10:31 AM (GMT)
Holy cannoli! I've have not been on the Internet for a few days and now this! I guess I missed this one.

goomba - June 18, 2008 10:40 AM (GMT)
Emile, you'll may be lucky if you try to buy it from Luc Van de Ven in Belgium.... He may stil lhave some copies left (I could buy Intrada's Special Collection Bandolero! quite some time after it was completely sold out).

Anakin McFly - June 18, 2008 12:15 PM (GMT)
Goomba, very interested indeed ! How do you reach him ?

I'm sad you were off the net Emile ! If I knew that, I would have certainly bought an extra copy and send it back to your address ! Damn, how could I didn't think of that... I was pretty sure you were aware of this, thanks to your connections with the Silvestris.

goomba - June 18, 2008 12:17 PM (GMT)
I'll send you his e-mail address ;)

EDIT: Sent! Good luck :smoke:

Anakin McFly - June 18, 2008 12:24 PM (GMT)
Oh thank you, I hope it won't bring any trouble to you... I mean you're allowed to ?

ESB - June 18, 2008 12:32 PM (GMT)
Thanks Anakin. Yes, it was crazy. It went so fast. I haven't even updated my site.

Goomba was also so nice to sent me Luc's e-mail address. Who knows, maybe we're lucky.

Right now, I'm completely sucked into the European Championship soccer :D My country, The Netherlands, is doing extremely well. It's really cool, what's going on there. Sorry about your country France, Anakin. They deserve to be still in the Championship with players like Henry, Ribéry en Benzema. But our group was just crazy!

Hey it's his job, he's a soundtrack retailer ! If I bring new costumers to him, I don't think he will be mad at me :D
And... you can write to him without any mention of how you get his e-mail address :shhh:

Anakin McFly - June 18, 2008 12:40 PM (GMT)
Okay ! So why Prometheus doesn't have his own website do you think ?
Where did you send your message to me by the way ? :D MP ?
you're not online on msn...
While I'm thinking of it, I'll have something to ask you about the Transformers score ! you're the specialist !

LOL our team is more concerned about doing commercials for cell phones and being rich and famous rather than playing soccer ! :D Anyway I don't care, I never watch... So I'm glad your team is doing great ! ;)
