Title: Problem with the forum
Description: Unable to search
Dennis - March 27, 2005 03:35 PM (GMT)
Everytime when I want to search the board it won't work (I get an error message).
- Does anybody know why?
- Do you guys have the same problem?
Just wondering.
Cheers,
Dennis

It's because the company that hosts this forum didn't activate it. They also didn't activate some other things.

I never used the search, because this is still a pretty new message board, and the Alan Silvestri board and the Film Music in General section are the only ones with 2 pages, so I don't have to search that far if I'm looking for an old thread.
I mean...the "General Discussion" section at the JWFan.net MB have 67 pages actually, so you can realize it's pretty hard to find an old topic, and the "search" feature become really important.
At the moment, we can survive here without the "search" function, but hey...it will be usefull in the future, so kinda repair it. :D

You are just obsessed with JWfan.net, aren't you
TommyJohnson - March 27, 2005 07:37 PM (GMT)
Yep! :D I hope this doesn't bother this forum's members.
However, it was just to make a comparison, althought that board is obviously bigger, being online since May 2000.
I'm part of that forum from more than a year, that's my virtual house.
But this is a close second...this is...my virtual hotel. :D
Also, form January 2004 (when I joined that board) 'till November (when I get a DSL connection), I had a slow 56k-modem connection and so I was online only on weekends (so I wasn't able to follow every discussion).
But now I'm online everyday, and I have a lot of friends there, so please accept my apologize if I often mention that MB. But, hey, sometimes I mention this board there too.

It's not funny. I had that problem, too once.
I think you have to add invisionfree to trusted sites in your settings. But I'm not sure, Firefox never had a problem since.

Nope. Never did that.

Oh yeah, probably it's a IE problem. I'm using Firefox and I don't have any problems, althought I never had any with IE too.

I use Firefox too. It's so cool. Higher speed and some cool skins. I never had a single problem with Firefox. GET Firefox guys. And it's free :) .
Dennis - March 28, 2005 03:31 PM (GMT)
Yeah, not too long ago I also changed to Firefox. It's faster and I don't have the problems I used to have with Internet Explorer.
Cheers,
Dennis

I was forced, because one day I was surfing around the net, and suddently ALL the pages, when refreshed, changed into those really "nice" IE error white pages. Oh yeah the day was full of bad words. :D
I tried to reinstall it, but it doesn't works. Guess what? I changed it to FF, which I didn't like at first. But it was only a matter of habit. Now I like it. :)

I just got a message back from InvisionFree. This was their answer:
| QUOTE |
| We have disabled the search button on all forums to speed them up (as searching is very server-intensive). Once we have completed modifications to speed up searching, we will re-enable this feature. Sorry for the inconvenience. |
So they are saying they will re-enable them, but I'm a bit sceptical about it, because I also got a similar answer back when I asked them about it a year ago :right:
BTW, Firefox isn't that good in my opinion. It has some problems with DHTML effects. For instance if I use it I can't scroll to the end of the album scroller on my JNH site (it stops with King Ralph). And my scrollers don't run smooth under Firefox, especially with the album scroller there are weird "hick-ups" in the scrolling movement. Also the fading of the images at the intro page of my AS site doesn't work properly. When the images are their maximum brightness, the images experience a strange flash.
BTW, I saw in the logs of my sites that about 15 - 20% of my visitors use Firefox nowadays! So I was forced to change my sites behind the screens a bit recently (with all the JavaScript and CSS), so that Firefox would render them correctly :)

The problem still exist Emile...any news? :/
Lee - May 26, 2005 08:12 AM (GMT)
The search problem is actually a problem right now because the forum is much popular.

Thing are changed in the meanwhile...the future has come! :)
Now, the search feature would be much more usefull than when I posted that reply.
Then I re-read these old posts in this thread, I didn't remember I posted this:

Sorry for auto-quoting, but it's still :D .

I'm totally dependent on the forum hoster. They made the decision to not implement it because it slows down the server. So it's not useful to ask me about it because it's not up to me :/
Pogel - May 26, 2005 01:30 PM (GMT)
Couldn't you change the software, to php or something similar?
James Silvestri - June 17, 2006 01:37 PM (GMT)
Emile, why you don't upgrade this forum?
Apart that the fact that Invisionboard sucks (it's buggy, phpBB is a lot better) but now Invisionboard is at version 2.1, while this is still the initial 1.3, the 2003 version.
Times are kinda changed, man. ;)
