Silvestri underscores their plight with intense score featuring lengthy suspense material for strings, ferocious outbursts for brass, percussion. No words can describe this! The Cover looks great, the running time is awesome and it is even limited to 2000 copies. Ordered right away.
You can get it from
here but don't delay it! This is going to be annother Predator sell-out!
Just listen to the clips on the website! My absolute favorite is "Execution"! You can beautifully hear ricochet in that one but it sounds much more thrilling! Intrada rules!!!
ESB - August 4, 2005 08:43 AM (GMT)
Sound clips sound pretty awesome! Definitely hear some Predator-style in there too. Seems like excellent rhythmic orchestral action music :yahoo: It's fun to get some more of that older orchestral style of action scoring from Alan.
I never liked Intrada that much, but they're okay in my book now :yeah: I wonder how they pulled it off with Universal. I mean 72 min. of music from Universal!
I also wonder if this one will sell out very quickly. It could. But it's definitely not as famous and in-demand as his Predator score.
BigMacGyver - August 4, 2005 09:59 AM (GMT)
I know a lot of people who were extremely familiar with this score before i even heard about it or watched the movie. There is a fanbase for this one not to mention all the silvestri fans who will be grateful for this release. If varese sells out on a 1000 unit edition of scores that no one has ever heard of then my guess is that this silvestri CD will sell out even before they start shipping it.
It is strange that they were able to pull out a universal title. Maybe the studios are really opening up their vaults or the guys at intrada just had a lot of money left and wanted to go for something really special ;) but it gives hope for Back To The Future. Maybe it will come from varese? Alan hinted that in an interview.
This one will help to fill the huge gap in alan's discography around 1993.
More from that time would certainly be welcome and possible. I am thinking about Blown Away, The Luxor Ride or Super Mario Bros. These would certainly be possible...
But now i am greedy! :D
ESB - August 4, 2005 10:24 AM (GMT)
American Anthem (1986) is still highest on my list of unreleased scores. One of Alan's first orchestral scores. Man that suite is freaking brilliant! :omg: The rest of the score is also very interesting. It also contains a few excellent electronic rhythmic cues. Shouldn't be too hard to obtain the rights? It's really a hidden gem.
BigMacGyver - August 4, 2005 11:20 AM (GMT)
American Anthem is hold by columbia and was a total flop so it could be hard to convince them that someone is actually interested in it. Many people haven't even heard about the movie and even less have heard the boot. I even doubt that they still keep the master tapes from such a flop movie anymore.
From what is still unreleased, this would be my in-demand ranking:
1. Back To The Future
This one actually justifies a non-limited deluxe release.
2. Siegfried & Roy
Great imax score with lots of themes and ideas. I hope someone will release it like bill conti's music for imax films.
3. Judgment Night
Now released by intrada.
4. Blown Away
The bootleg was crap. The score is owned by MGM and thus easy to get.
5. Young Guns 2
A fox picture so intrada could easily go for it, too.
6. In Search for the Obelisk
It's Imax so if Siegfried & Roy would become reality we could also hope for this one.
7. Super Mario Bros.
Not sure which company owns it but it could be possible.
Predatorfan - August 4, 2005 11:55 AM (GMT)
It looks nice. 72 minutes eh? Wow!!! Come to think of it. I hope that track from the store is on it. When they're in the elevator, it's also a good track. One of those great moments where they yet again run or their lives. Emilio says then: "You guys are unbelievable."
BigMacGyver - August 4, 2005 11:59 AM (GMT)
The score seems to be complete even with some unused music. I find it interesting that they added pieces from "the unused electronic score". So Alan first wrote an entirely electronic score but had to replace it with a more orchestral work?

As far as I know Judgment Night is an obscure movie too. And I think they also look at which composers worked on it. They don't just throw away master tapes of major composers like Williams, Goldsmith or Alan, do they? I think these limited editions really sell out because of the composers and the music, not because of the film. But try to tell that to Columbia, right? :D
The unused electronic cues could be some mock-ups though.
Predatorfan - August 4, 2005 01:25 PM (GMT)
But only 2000 copies around the world. How about 2 million copies around the world.

Unfortunately, that number is pretty unrealistic.
Pogel - August 4, 2005 03:45 PM (GMT)
I doubt I will sell out too quickly. Predator was a very in-demand, heavily bootlegged score, I don't think Judgment Night will cause the same run. Which is why it's probably 2000 copies anyway.
However, I shall order it tonight ;)

Some notes from Roger Feigelson about the release at the FSM board:
| QUOTE |
Stephen Hopkins’ JUDGMENT NIGHT is a taut-cat-and-mouse thriller in which four suburbanite friends witness a murder and are subsequently hunted through the barren underbelly of Chicago by a band of merciless killers. Emilio Estevez headlines the film as the level-headed family man Frank Wyatt, part of a cast that included a pre-Oscar-winning Cuba Gooding Jr., a hot-off-Larry Sanders Jeremy Piven, and Dennis Leary as the menacing, wisecracking crime boss, Fallon.
Alan Silvestri creates an intense orchestral score to underline the gritty urban action, blending lengthy suspense sequences for strings with dynamic action motifs for brass and pounding percussion. Silvestri suggests the dark suspense and intense ferocity of PREDATOR 2 - also directed by Stephen Hopkins.
Intrada is proud to present the entire score from the original session masters, supervised by composer Silvestri and including material not used in the finished film. Detailed liner notes and dramatic graphics complement the packaging. |
So Alan supervised the production of this CD. I am too curious about these detailed liner notes.

Universal only distributed the film. It was produced by JCV Entertainment and Largo Entertainment.

I saw that this morning, connecting on the Intrada Site !! :yahoo: It's ordered, naturally... :proud:

Ah, you're right. Had Universal somewhere in the back of my mind and didn't check it. That explains it then.
Interesting that Alan participated in the release. Must be an important score for him. He didn't do that with Predator and Romancing the Stone. Maybe a new hobby for him from now on? ;)
BigMacGyver - August 4, 2005 07:59 PM (GMT)
Hm, releasing music sounds like a great hobby. I hope he will revisit the pleasure on some other scores ;)
Maybe Alan pulled some strings to make this release possible? Now we know that it must certainly be one of his favorite scores if he supervised the project.

I'm so happy Alan works with Intrada, coz it's one of my favorite labels with Varèse and that Intrada never released a single score by Alan. The next label : Prometheus ? :yeah:

Chips and Judge Dredd would be possible and cool. I wonder if Buysoundtrax will release alan's score for the low-budget movie the fifth floor (very Chips'ish 70 sound) like they did with chris youngs pranks.

Is that good for us or bad for us?
BigMacGyver - August 11, 2005 06:00 PM (GMT)
I don't know about any limited score releases from Cinergi or Touchstone's vaults so this is mainly bad for us. On the other hand, who would have expected that a release of judgment night would be possible?
Let's be optimistic ;)
Anakin McFly - August 11, 2005 07:11 PM (GMT)
Touchstone = Disney but i never heard that Disney produced JUDGE DREDD...
And I think Cinergi has to do with Canal +, just like Carolco...
BigMacGyver - August 11, 2005 07:25 PM (GMT)
However, Judge Dredd was recorded in England which means no reuse fees. That increases the chances for a expanded release of some kind. The Cutthroat Island threatment would be great for dredd.

A note from Doug about Judgment Night:
| QUOTE |
A heads up on pre-orders for JUDGMENT NIGHT. We're on target for the 23rd, as planned. Our plant promises us a Tuesday afternoon arrival. (You may not have noticed but we're pretty good at delivering on the dates we announce.) Anyway, we often get discs a few days ahead of schedule and jump start the shipping. However, on JUDGMENT NIGHT we're only going to be shipping "on time".
Like the last few titles, we're happily swamped with pre-orders. But since we won't be shipping a few days early we're just letting you know that Tuesday afternoon will be a zoo. (Actual animal sounds, smells, you name it!) So if you've got JUDGMENT NIGHT on pre-order, please be patient for a couple of days while we get things rolling.
We'll be happy, Alan Silvestri will be happy and - when it arrives at your door - you'll be happy! |
I am happy already! :D
ESB - August 22, 2005 08:09 AM (GMT)
Heheh, first I thought that he addressed that you and that were unpatiently bugging Doug about your Judgment Night order :D But I see he posted that on the site. Good sign to see they're swamped with pre-orders. Although swamp is not enough. Total chaos is what we want. Like Predator, Alan must set a record with Intrada too! ;)
It's kind of cool that they inform people like that though. Other labels like Varèse should do that too.
BigMacGyver - August 22, 2005 08:20 AM (GMT)
They are really doing a great job at intrada and i guess judgment night will sell very well.
Hey, what about sending them a little thank-you letter or something like that representing all members from the board (or at least the few who post regulary ;) ) showing some appreciation for the work behind this release?
I wonder if that would be possible but it would be a nice surprise for sure.
ESB - August 22, 2005 08:41 AM (GMT)
Seems like a nice idea. But one physical letter signed by all of us would be very impractible I guess. An e-mail with all our names and personal thanks could work?
BigMacGyver - August 22, 2005 08:45 AM (GMT)
Anakin McFly - August 22, 2005 08:48 AM (GMT)
I'm in of course ! To encourage them to release many other Silvestri scores in the future ! :D
ESB - August 22, 2005 08:58 AM (GMT)
We can also threaten them at the end. "We are very thankful, but we are counting on another Silvestri release within the next 6 months. Remember, we know where you live..." - Regards, the Silvestri forum team
:D

Does anybody know how they handle all the orders? Do they ship them in the same sequence as they were ordered (meaning the earlier you order, the earlier your package will be shipped) or is there no particular sequence?
