Title: Small Piece On Simone On Afterellen.com

There was a topic here about what she said in an interview about Bad Girls. AfterEllen did a little story on straight women who played lesbian characters and what the thought/said about it in interviews. This is the part about Simone:

To find out what happens to actresses who don't toe the party line, we need look no further than Jones' co-star on Bad Girls, Simone Lahbib. Instead of constantly raving about what it was like to kiss Jones, Lahbib sometimes joked about the experience while talking openly about her love for her future husband. She also mentioned being bothered by a lesbian fan's invasion of her privacy, and she indicated that one member of her family wasn't comfortable watching the lesbian love scenes.

None of those remarks make Lahbib homophobic, especially when contrasted with her oft-stated pride in being part of the show and the lesbian relationship it featured. But the British press linked together her comments and regurgitated the “lesbian stalker” story repeatedly, effectively remaking the liberal actress' image. In article after article, Lahbib became a homophobic actress scared of her lesbian fans and ensnared against her will in a lewd, embarrassing show where they forced her to engage in scandalous “romps” with her female co-star.

But Lahbib, who now stars in another drama, Wire in the Blood, laughed at the idea of being typecast for portraying a lesbian. For her, the far more insidious typecasting came from the media, which created a reality that, five years later, she said she still struggles to escape. She told us that she is “mortified” to see what the press has done to her image, especially because it hurts the lesbian community she tried to represent. “How could I have played Helen and that intense love story if I was homophobic?” she asked. “It's f------ ridiculous.”

Ok, I'm not going to believe anything those stupid articles say anymore. I'm just going to love her now, and not doubt about the fact if she did like doing Bad Girls or not.

Every once in a while, we do some good things too... Not to mention the article quoted above! :D

The slandering type of writing/broadcasting is often based on a chase for better ratings = more adverts = more money. If you don't want that kind of journalism, don't support it by reading/watching it in the first place!

I hope that article was placed over on the nikki and helen site where Simone was getting quite slated. I had to bow out of that one, got a bit heated lol. Thank you for posting that article, i didnt need to read to know Simone was not homophobic, as what she states is the same argument i made - how could she have played Helen if she was homophobic. But i hope other people read it and it restores their faith in Simone. The media can slander people to great affect and its times like that thje stars need thier fans support.
