SIMONE GETS WIRED IN AS A COP
Exclusive Star's new role
By Paul English
SCOTS actress Simone Lahbib will replace Cold Feet star Hermione Norris in the new series of ITV thriller Wire In The Blood next year.
Simone, 40, who became a first time mum with actor hubby Raffaello Degruttola last month, will play the female lead opposite Robson Green in the cop drama.
An ITV insider revealed: "Simone's delighted to be joining up with Robson for series four of Wire"Filming doesn't start until January, so that suits her well as she's wants to spend lots of time with baby Skye.
"Simone's character is entirely new, and she's still being developed.
"Hermione has also had a baby, but she felt it was time to move on to new projects after three series of Wire.
"Her character DCI Carol Jordan hasn't been killed off."
Stirling born Simone, who shot to fame as bisexual prison warden Helen Stewart in ITV's Bad Girls, appeared BBC1's Monarch of The Glen as a city slicker back to tie up her grandmother's estate.
She has also recently finished filming a movie with Grease and West Wing star Stockard Channing called Red Mercury Rising.
She got her break in 1999 in The Young Person's Guide to Being a Rock Star.
Wire In The Blood is inspired by the gritty novels of Scots author and former Daily Record journalist Val McDermid, from Kirkcaldy

TV star samples the green grass of home.(News)
Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England); 1/11/2006
Byline: By Rob Kennedy
Tv star Robson Green was back on home turf to film the latest scenes for the drama series Wire in the Blood.
Robson was back on Tyneside to shoot the new scenes in Tynemouth.
Dozens of passers-by and schoolchildren on their lunch break gathered round to watch the actor in action.
Robson, who grew up in Dudley, North Tyneside, turned up with fellow star Simone Lahbib and a film crew and half a dozen vans to do the filming yesterday and was there for several hours.
Many parking spaces on Tynemouth Front Street were coned off as the crew took over part of the road.
A police officer stood guard and was stopping cars from interrupting the scenes by taking a short cut through an archway which leads onto Front Street.
A local office worker, who didn't want to be named, said: "I only came out for a sandwich and didn't know what was going on. I thought there was something wrong at first but then I saw the big outside lights and realised it must be the TV.
"I didn't take much notice but when a got closer I saw this man standing there in a big coat and realised it was Robson Green."
Robson is married to former model and Bond girl Vanya Seager, 48.
The 41-year-old has a five-year-old son, Taylor, and he once took a year off to be with him and be a hands-on dad.
Robson said recently that Vanya and Taylor are much more important to him than being a party animal.
He added: "Now I look at my watch and if it's a choice between going to a wrap party or catching a plane home, I head for the airport. All the best stuff happens there. There's no competition."

We have been fortunate enough to get a copy of the newspaper article from a relative who lives in the area. We are trying to find time between real life to get the main website up to date and also a scan of the newpaper itself - the Black and White image here is in fact in colour in the article.

Many thanks to Lee for sending us the scans of the following article in The Scottish Sun!
The images are large to allow the words to read okay - so if your not on broadband they will take some time to load. We are sorry about this, but it was that or lose the quality of the print.

Thanks for posting. I love Wire in the Blood and was disappointed when I heard Hermione Norris was leaving the show but then to find out that she was being replaced by Simone made up for that fact. I can't wait until the new series is shown in the States.

I rushed out to buy the TV times so I kno have my own copy. Article was actually gigger in size than I thought it would be, covering most of page.
Not sure about this botox business that some1 mentioned on another MB, don't think she has had it myself
slfan4ever - June 3, 2006 06:20 PM (GMT)
I think Simone Lahbib suits playing women in power. My fav was obviously Helen Stewart which where i discovered Simone. Then i loved seeing her back in her famous power suits in Fallen. I always thought i would love to see her in something like The Bill high up in authority. So to learn she was in Wire in The Blood was amazing. I have not seen it but im hoping to see Simone back in some of her power suits.

My thoughts exactly Kellie

Does anyone know when the new series of wire in the blood is on tv?
So EXCITED to see simone in her new role!!!!

At the moment the only date we have seen anywhere is Autumn.
Usually the main schdules for Autumn begin to be annouced through August, so we can only keep an eye out on those announcements.
Unfortunately ITV isn't like the BBC (who tend to announce well in advance on their press packs) because they can change the showing of programs on an almost weekly basis. We have a family member who used to be the main editor for the TV Times and they were always changing it right up until the last minute before printing. Used to drive him nuts!
xxHelenxx - July 19, 2006 11:02 PM (GMT)
I had an email stating that if everything goes to plan this should hit our screens in august!
sophiesworld2 - July 25, 2006 10:23 PM (GMT)
Really? August? Oh I do hope that is True. Do BBC usually start news series in August though? I thought they just tend to repeat stuff during the summer months due to viewing figs being low during the holiday period.
I hope it is August though, the sooner the better if you ask me
sophiesworld2 - July 28, 2006 04:58 PM (GMT)
I just read on the other site that WITB is being screened in August in Australia, can you beleive that!
Just read that post about Simone being in the Bill, that would be so great if she was, we could get to see her 3x a week (or however often it is on). I can but only dream
xxHelenxx - July 28, 2006 05:14 PM (GMT)
Which other website?
Its on ITV hun, not BBC :P
sophiesworld2 - August 2, 2006 12:52 AM (GMT)
the Helen and Nikki 1.
Most have been on MOTG mode when I said BBC, afterall I only usyually watch programs on ITV anyway. I might apply for a license refund on the basis that I dont actually watch BBC!
MOTG was the last show I watched on there and that was only because Simone was in it!

HORROR STORYLINES HURT MORE NOW I'M A MUMScots star Simone had baby blues in new role as tough cop
By Derek Robins |
Daily RecordSCOTS actress Simone Lahbib plays a tough detective in her latest TV role - but has admitted the thought of leaving her baby reduced her to tears.
Simone, 41, who starred in Monarch of the Glen and Bad Girls, will soon be back on our screens as feisty DI Alex Fielding in the grisly ITV1 thriller Wire In The Blood.
And the Stirling-born star, who gave birth to daughter Skye 10 months ago, admitted that she found some of the gruesome storylines in the four-parter, beginning in September, "quite scary". They include the hunt for a bondage killer, a serial murderer preying on prostitutes, ritual killings involving Masonic symbolism and the torture and mutilation of women. She said: "I didn't have nightmares but the storyline in which girls are cut and bleed to death is horrific. I found that awful, as I have a daughter and I think I have become extra sensitive."
Even just going back to work after the birth of Skye left her distraught but, luckily, she could call on mum Jean to take care of the baby, who was just three months old when she went back to work. Simone admitted there were plenty of tears, and she even thought twice about taking the role. She said: "The first couple of days were the most difficult. I was wondering whether I was doing the right thing as she was still breastfeeding and wasn't even on formula milk.
"My husband Raffaello was also saying, 'Should you be going back to work so soon?' Just before filming I went for the costume fitting and, in our wisdom, Raffaello and I decided to bring Skye. She cried hysterically. I was breastfeeding her while I was being fitted, and I could feel my eyes welling up with tears as I thought 'she needs me'. Raffaello joked that I would have to carry the baby around in scenes, and the director would just have to do head shots. But my mum was fantastic with the baby - she's a great influence on her. Skye was more calm with her than around her parents. And it was such a joy to come off the set after a scene to open my trailer door and there was my baby with her arms stretched out for me. Seeing her smiling and cuddling her was a great destresser before I had to go back to filming."
Soldier Soldier star Robson Green plays criminal psychologist Tony Hill in Wire In The Blood, and his film company produce the show. Simone said they were great about her keeping Skye close by. She said: "Robson's company, Coastal Productions, which makes WITB, was great - they gave me a massive trailer and sent a car to bring mum and Skye to the set and to take them home early. They also provided us with a fantastic house at Tynemouth, two minutes from the beach. They made working so easy, but I bet future jobs won't be that great."
The filming in Newcastle meant Simone was away from actor husband Raffaello Degruttola, whom she wed in 2003. But the Saving Private Ryan star has had plenty projects to keep him busy. He has been in Los Angeles making the movie Devil On The Mountain, and has been filming in Romania. Simone said there is a possibility the family will spend time abroad, but only after Skye has been introduced to her roots.
She explained: "Raff could get a Green Card and he could do more work in LA. We could all go out there together for a while. He's been in Romania to make an action film, Second In Command, with Jean-Claude Van Damme, so things are happening for him. He also wrote a short film, Call Me, in which we played lovers. It has just won an award at the Solento film festival in Italy. He's also got a feature film script with a strong Italian storyline which he's developing. So there's a possibility of going to America for his work, but I think Skye will prob ably go to school in London.
"At the moment we're just happy to be all together and to show Skye new things - she's only tiny but we've already taken her to the zoo and the aquarium. There's a possible acting project in the autumn but, before that, we're taking Skye to Scotland so she can meet the rest of the family and we may go to LA if Raff has work out there."
And Simone frankly admitted she has struggled to shift her post-baby pounds and said she is suspicious of how quickly some celebrities snap back into shape. She laughed: "I wanted to be a yummy mummy but I don't have the time to go to the gym - I don't even have time to remember to brush my hair. I've no idea how celebrity mums get back into shape. When I see Victoria Beckham coming out of hospital after giving birth with a flat stomach, I can't believe that she hasn't had liposuction. After Skye was born, there's a picture of me lying on the bed and my stomach is so big it's lying across Raffaello. Ten months after Skye was born I'm still waiting for the pregnancy fat to go away. Thank goodness for elasticated pants. I'm still wearing big knickers - but you look at your child and it's still worth it."
Simone, who's now a size 14, continued: "I got offered a seat on the tube a couple of weeks ago as people thought I was pregnant. I texted my friends about it and they just replied 'I hope you took the seat'."
But she thinks the extra weight has helped with the portrayal of her character, Alex Fielding, who has been drafted in to replace DCI Carol Jordan, played by Hermione Norris, who quit last year. Simone went on: "I realised as I bounced Skye on my knee that Alex and I have some similarities as she has a son and she's a single mum who has to juggle her career with getting home on time for her son and arranging babysitters. Like her, I have a feisty side and I will put up a fight. Maybe that's why I play ballsy characters quite often."
Simone hopes to return for another run of Wire In The Blood next year, but she knows she will have to make alternative childcare arrangements. She said: "The next time Skye won't just stay in the trailer, as she's already crawling around."
But for now, Simone is just enjoying having her family all in one place.
Wire in the Blood returns in September on ITV1.

Clinical psychologist Dr Tony Hill returns with some satisfying new elements.
Robson Green as intuitive clinical psychologist Dr Tony Hill.
DramaChannelABCDateFriday August 11Time8:30 PM
The return of Robson Green as intuitive clinical psychologist Dr Tony Hill introduces some satisfying new elements. Not that Britain's Southern Television has tampered with the theme of murder most foul, but it turns the screws on Hill, requiring him to re-establish himself with Bradfield Police, with whom he had such a successful working relationship.
To this end, we find Tony emerging as good as new, or so he believes, after surgery for a brain tumour. However, he faces a career setback.
Some years before, as the result of his first forensic profile, the police secured the conviction of an accused rapist. The man has been released on appeal and Tony's findings discredited.
A second change initially will disappoint many viewers, for Tony's longstanding police partner, Detective Inspector Carol Jordan (Hermione Norris), has gone to work in South Africa. The two of them had grown close, though in the eyes of senior police Jordan relied too heavily on Tony's assistance in her investigations.
A format that had grown too familiar goes back to basics, for Tony must establish himself with Carol's replacement, the independently minded DI Alex Fielding, played by Simone Lahbib (Monarch of the Glen).
On the plus side, Lahbib quickly establishes Fielding as a tough opponent. How long can she hold out? The decaying body of a young women has been found in a barrel and Tony is certain more victims will be found.
An added attraction is the 90-minute format, which allows each of four stories to be viewed in single sittings.
