Title: Flipping through CDs
Description: open to anyone

Okay, Danielle was officially in need of decent music. At this point in time, all of her CDs either sucked, were broken, or she was just plain tired of. Music was one of those things that Dani couldn't really do without. She would just be sitting around her room, and suddenly she would get a craving for something that she could get up and dance to. Usually, this resulted in her getting out the disco and dancing around her room to it. This was of course the sole reason that Danielle kept her room clean. So that she could dance around it.

Danielle flipped through the CDs. She loved the sound that it made each time, as the CDs hit against each other. It was so melodic, in a way. She smiled, as she realized that she had no idea what the hell she was flipping though. Danielle looked up at the cruddy signs hanging from the ceiling. This place was priceless. Dani wandered over to the bargain bin to see if there was anything interesting looking in there.

She picked up a CD and smiled. This was one of those crap bands that Todd used to listen to. She had never really fancied this stuff, but put up with it because it was him. Danielle moved over to the musicals section. Ahh showtunes. There really wasn't any music like it. It was a total guilty pleasure. No one in the area seemed to like showtunes quite the way Dani did. For once, Headbangers actually had something that she was interested in. The new broadway cast of Company. Danielle squealed with delight. COMPANY was only one of her fave musicals EVER!!! This seemed to be her lucky day. Danielle started to flip through some more CDs, wondering if she would find any more gems in here.

Lucky leaned in slowly, having approached Danielle from behind quietly so as not to alert the brunette of his presence. Once he was close enough to smell her shampoo, Luck whispered in her ear "Showtunes, hm? Charming." He smirked to himself. There was something about sneaking up on girls, scaring them just a little bit that amused him to no end. He loved doing it to Jordan, and he had spent the better part of his childhood thinking up ways to surprise or startle Cassandra. Nothing terrifying, just a little shock to the system.

It wasn't techincally stalking. Not if he had been planning to go to the same store as her anyway, he just happened to notice her on the way there. And followed her, making sure not to be seen. And then watched her from a corner of the store as he discreetly checked to see if the store had anything of interest to him. Unfortunately, he was unable to locate the slightest thing that piqued his curiosity, the only things being the things he already owned, and had listened to countless times. The only downside of Headbanger's was the simple fact that it was a small store, and it didn't get a lot of the more abstract, low-key music that he preferred, forcing him to order a lot of his music.

No, not stalkerish at all. Or, at least that was what Lucky had been telling himself as he completely and utterly stalked Danielle. He simply couldn't understand why he was so attracted to his little sister's best friend. Seriously, there were two words that should have sent him off immediately. Little and sister. How weird was it that he liked the girl that Cass had used to play barbies with? And even weirder, why didn't Danielle feel the same? The girl seemed to show absolutly no interest in him, except the occasional curling of the lip or snide comment. Everyone knew she liked that gay, Todd or whatever. What was it with girl liking gay guys? First Cass, then Danielle! It was a preposterous waste.

Okay, Danielle had to admit it. She was so caught up in her Original Broadway Cast Recordings, that she DIDN'T notice Lucky pop up behind her. It was somewhat careless. And weird. Really weird. How could she not have? Really, Danielle was really on the highest alert about the people around her and what they were doing. For once, it had slipped her mind. Probably because the store wasn't all that crowded.

Danielle turned around to him, timidly. She picked up Company, and held it close to her. "Yes, showtunes." she responded confidently. "They're actually quite good." Danielle took her showtunes seriously. They were some good things, some true art. Far more artsy than that rap crap. No one really knew that about her though. Danielle looked down to the CD in her hand, and smiled. Raul Esparza was on the cover. He had an amazing voice. It blew her away. Dani only wished that she could sing like that.

It was then that Dani realized what had just happened. Lucky had snuck up on her!! The nerve!! "Lucky!! How dare you sneak up on me like that!" she said to him. It was kind of out of the blue, but she hadn't really processed who he was or what had happened. Ergh. That boy. Dani had never really fancied him. He was just a pest sometimes. Got in the way of her and Cass. Always interrupting their games. He seemed to despise those hours playing Barbies. It was quite annoying. That pest. Never had grown up. Danielle crossed her arms, CD still in hand. "Why must you always be such a pest?" she asked, pushing him lightly in a somewhat friendly, somewhat mean way.

Lucky was slightly taken aback by how calmly Danielle responded to his sneaking up on her. He was disappointed, having expected a scream or at least a little jump. But she seemed to be responding well to having been somewhate creepily snuck up on. And that she was so in to musicals, that was surprising too. Then again, Lucky was known for having a huge range of musical interests, so he shouldn't be making remarks (even to himself) about other people's.

When she randomly seemed to realize what Luck had done to her (delayed reaction, much?) the tall blonde let out a snigger of delight. The contentment warmed him and he he smirked, making sure not to let show how much he enjoyed surprising Danielle. It was like his own discreet, shameless way of flirting with her, since outright flirting would never work. Well, it might. But it would have to be a last resort.

"Because I'm good at it, why else? And besides, stop pretending that you don't love the attention." Okay, so maybe a little downright flirting was okay. He reached forward and plucked the CD from the girl's hand, quickly scanning the song list on the back and surveying the picture of the man on the front. He knew "Company", and he knew some of the songs. They were okay, but not amazingly well written. The entire production had relied on the lead's voice. "Have you ever seen this show?" Luck asked, suddenly serious. Music wasn't a joke to him, and coversations abot music were nothing to joke about.

Dani was somewhat suprised by the comment that she loved attention. Okay, maybe she did. Just a little. Actually, now that she thought about it, she secretly loved it. But Dani wasn't about to admit that to Lucky. That would just give him all the satisfaction. And then his ego would grow. Couldn't let that happen now could she?? His ego was already big enough as it is. Dani just sighed and didn't respond to the attention comment.

Danielle let Lucky grab the treasured CD from her. She sighed again. What was with him and this musical. He seemed to care far too much. It was only a silly CD. She watched him examine the CD inently. Based on the looks Lucky was giving it, Dani didn't think that he realized what an amazing musical it truly was. This was Steven Sondheim. One of the best and most well known music composers ever. Nothing beat him.

Dani decided to let Lucky know that, but he managed to talk before she did. Had she ever seen the show?? "No...I haven't. But I've listened to it bunches. It's truly amazing. Raul Esparza, he's the guy on the cover and the lead role, sings this amazing song at the end called 'Being Alive'. I saw his performance at the Tony awards and it was..wow. It was inspiring and breathtaking. You should check out the video of it online sometime." Danielle smiled again here, even though Lucky wasn't one of her favorite people ever "You know that IS Steven Sondheim?? One of the greatest composers ever lived." nudging him slightly as she said so.

lucky whitaker - July 26, 2007 08:54 PM (GMT)
Lucky gave Danielle a frank look. "Of course I know who Steven Sondheim is, he's like the Michelangelo of music. I'm just saying that Company wasn't his Sistine Chapel..." He surveyed the picture of the man on the front. He looked pompous, which he probably was. Lucky wouldn't be surprised. Performer's generally were pompous, or stuck-up, and then when they got interviewed they pretended to be so sweet and down-to-earth. It sickened him.

He glanced up at Danielle, surveying her carefully. She wasn't quite the person he had thought she was. He knew the girly, loud-mouthed, sugar-coated Danielle. Not the one that liked musicals and Sondheim. "I know Being Alive. I can sing it."
Not very well, but he could. He had never prided himself on his voice, but he got the notes out, none of them were flat, and he knew the words. He slowly handed the CD back to her, thinking to himself.

"You should watch the show, see if it's on youtube or something. You'd be surprised, and you might be disappointed." He knew that sounded cruel, and as soon as he said it he regretted it. He didn't want to make Danielle mad, or sad even. "Better yet, maybe I could take you to see it." There we go, Lucky was back on track. Always smooth, always flirty. Even if he got distracted by music, and the hidden passions of his sister's best friend and his now-confusing crush.

danielle walker - July 29, 2007 08:09 PM (GMT)
Okay, Dani wasn't quite sure about the Sistine chapel comment. Company was one of his better musicals. Maybe not one of the most well known, but nobody really knew Steven Sondheim's musicals. Most people listened to new composers. "Well, what would you say IS his Sistine chapel then?? Personally, I think it might be Into the Woods, but Company is also quite good. You don't give it nearly enough credit."

Dani was in her zone at this point. Arguing was something that she was good at, and did for the sake of doing it. But, no, Lucky changed the subject. Typical. "Lucky, please don't sing. Spare my ears." Okay, granted, Dani hadn't heard him sing, but she could only imagine. Her voice wasn't that bad. At least that's what Dani thought. Her singing tended to stick to the shower though.

Lucky handed back the CD. Thank god. It was hers, dammit!! She was overly protective over that CD. Dani had been wanting it for soooo long. It was then that she realized what Lucky had said. He was the same old Lucky. Flirting with her every second he could. "Lucky, in no way would I want to go see Company with you. All you ever do is hit on me. Maybe I would go see it with someone else, but I highly doubt with you." Dani was mad again. Whenever he hit on her, she got mad. Danielle crossed her arms, and gave Lucky a fierce look. She absolutely hated his non-stop hitting on her. No way would she start tolerating it just for the idea of going to see one of her favorite Broadway shows.

When Danielle mentioned "Into the Woods", Lucky let out a relieved sigh. "Thank god. Now that's a good musical. Action, great characters, and an amazing soundtrack." He resisted the urge to start mumbling the lyrics to "Hello, Little Girl". It was sort of a creepy song, but he liked it. It suited his limited vocal range perfectly. "Much better than Company."

The boy looked at Danielle quizzically, both eyebrows raised as he squinted. "Non-stop? I wouldn't go that far. Sure, I hit on you. But I wouldn't say I hit on your non-stop." He pondered this for a moment before realizing that it was just about true. Ever since he had started hitting on girls, he had hit on Danielle. But he hit on everyone, it had only started counting with Dani right before he left for war. "Well, maybe if you flirted back once or a while then I might be persuaded to ease up." He leaned in, putting a hand delicately on her arm.
