Ok, this tutorial will guide you step by step on how to make a varied texture pattern for your work. This can be used as a background or as an overlay to give your work some texture and contrast.

So first open photoshop CS up and go to File >> New or click CTRL + N and create the document with these following settings:

Name: Varied Texture Background
Preset: Custom
Width: 1024
Height: 768
Resolution: 72 Pixels / Inch
Color Mode: RBG Color 8 Bit
Background Contents: White

No need to unlock the layer until we plan on transferring it to another piece of work. So firstly go to Filter >> Render >> Clouds. Now invert it by going to Image >> Adjustments >> Invert or click CTRL + I.

Now go to Filter >> Stylize >> Solarize. Then go to Image >> Adjustments >> Equalize to make it more brighter and to stand out more.

Now apply the difference clouds filter by going to Filter >> Render >> Difference Clouds.

Now we are going to make it more circular in the middle. And to achieve this we will go to Filter >> Distort >> Spherize and make sure the slider is all the way to the right. So it should be 100% and mode is 'normal'.

Go to Filter >> Artistic >> Dry Brush with these following settings:

Brush Size: 2
Brush Detail: 8
Texture: 1

Click ok to apply the filter. Now go to Filter >> Texture >> Texturizer and use these following settings unless you want to experiment with the different textures.

Texture: Sandstone
Scaling: 100%
Relief: 4
Light: Top
Invert: Checked

Click ok to apply. Now you can use this as background or as textures overlaying original images like in my final piece. You can see I overylayed it on top of the 2pac wallpaper and it gave a great effect. I used 'Color Dodge' as the layer blend mode.

Hope you enjoy using this in your work and give you some good textures and varied colors and light and darkness in your pieces.
