Well, here is my fluffy Necrarch list I am toying with. It is based the Necrarchs and them being the only bloodline staying true to Nagash and all. I got some good fluff written up too. Hmm I dont play at 1500 points so Im not really an expert. Its definitely fluffy tho if you want to be competitive id still be tempted to drop one or 2 thralls for a necros.
I guess you will be putting a NNB Thrall in each unit of zombies, and since you will only have 2 ION's per turn you neednt worry about the unit of 10 zombies, better off using that 60 points somewhere else. I have also never been a fan of light armour on skeletons...why armour stuff that gets back up, seems a point sink to me. With those points you could buff youre knights to 11 models and add a unit of ghouls as a shield for them for turn 1.
If you are keeping the thrall idea I would definitely drop the extra unit of zombies and either the zombies musicians or the light armour to get your unit of knights up to stand 6x5 and really put the begeebers into your opponent.
Like I said tho im far from an expert at 1500 points where lords dont feature, all I know is that Necrarchs suffer at under 2k so good luck!!!!

I know that necrarchs suffer at 1500 points, but I wasn\'t sure what to do.
The 10 zombies are for my thrall bunker. The skeletons are to be the armoured center. I was trying to see how I could work a cursed book in.
As for a necro? He wouldn\'t be much better. the thrall can cast better at the cost of one less power dice. Besides, he can fight back better if needed.
As for my list, how is it? I have the fell bats for warmachines and wolves for interference and the huge mass of infantry for a solid center. With the knights as a solid hammer.
So, hows the list all in all? I have plenty of time to work the kinks out.
Thanks for your help so far.

Lord Crosis

The list is fine mate, plent of manouverability and annoyance for your enemies and some nice punch from the BK's.
Since a thrall is much more durable than a necro and there will be no lords to mess up you day I would spready them out in your main units. Put your combat guy in the skeles and 1 each in the other zombie units,a litle risky as he will be challengable but hey he can always hide if its too much ;) ,and scrap the bunker, it really isnt needed IMO. Points far better spent on your BK's.
Dont overlook ghouls in small games either, they can be devastating, easpecially against otehr skirmishers and fast cav.
As for thrall vs Necro casting remember the Necro can throw 1 extra dice at his spell and also HAS a second spell (assuming lvl 2)
I like this list tho and if youre going for fluff its great. At 1500 points there is unlikely to be too much magic flying about and the book of A is a must. Dont see how you could get a cursed book in without trading something far more necessary.
Tourney is far off tho so plenty of time. Im now off to paint more zombies for the weekend!

Ok, I\'ll scrap the bunker and buy more BK. Then with what ever points I have left, I\'ll buy more zombies.
Thanks alot for your help. I\'ll post up the final version tonight.

Hmmm... the only thing I would change is mounting all the vampires. or at least the general. They are so vulnerable that even this 5+save would be really helpful.
Also think about making one of the vampires a bsb. The only problem is that I don;t really know what to drop to get all those character improvements. i guess zombies would be the best idea.
Lord Crosis - November 16, 2006 10:16 PM (GMT)
I am curious, why do people want to mount all their characters these days? I thought a vampire would be safer in a big block of zombies.
Is there a reason to mounts all my guys? or just the general?

Lord Crosis

Its more that there is no reason not to. In 7th ed a mounted character CANT be picked out of a unit of foot troops so you effectively get an extra model (cav base takes up 2 places) plus you get the saves associated with being mounted + the horse can fight and its a well known fact that horses kill more than characters ;)
Lord Crosis - November 16, 2006 11:43 PM (GMT)
Wait, you\'re telling me its now impossible to pick out and shoot a guy on a horse leading a unit of infantry?
Wouldn\'t it make more sense for it to be impossible to target a guy on foot in a big squad?
Trust GW . . . . .
Well, I guess I can drop a few zombies or skellies. Should I mount everyone?

Lord Crosis

You cant pick out a character on foot either if thats what you meant so no need to worry. I dont mount my necros, even tho maybe i should but thats more that I like my converted Ringwraiths and dont want new models. Being a Necrarch I should probably mount my vampire too, but again I like the paintjob I did so im not changing him.
Lord Crosis - November 17, 2006 03:43 AM (GMT)
Ok, I\'ll mount the general but leave the other two thrall on foot.
Sound good?

Don't know the rules at low point armys, but i always thought your general has to be a mage.
It's good you have big blocks; can't expect that important IoNs will get through :/
Lord Crosis - November 17, 2006 11:58 AM (GMT)
Well, I have 2 level wizards with IoN to help with raising.
Plus, at 1500, there shouldn\'t be that magic resistance. They\'ll rather dispel my BoA than a IoN.

Lord Crosis

NIB is right mate, big oops for not spotting this myself, you general HAS to be a mage, no choice.
But yea mount your combat guy for a 5+ save and leave the others on foot is fine.
Lord Crosis - November 17, 2006 02:59 PM (GMT)
sounds like a plan.
I'll be going to GW tonight, so I might post up a battle or two here.
