Title: Demon Diaries
Description: ~Youkai no Ai~
~Hikari~ - January 30, 2007 03:46 AM (GMT)
~Chapter One~
-’How will I know if he likes me or not?’ The young female dog demon thought uncertainly, ’What if we aren’t meant for each other? How do they know this arranged marriage will turn out alright?...But...I must remeber...it's for my land...this will be a powerful alligence...the east and west together..’
It was the beginning of the warm summer, a slight breeze making her long silvery-purple hair fly back, and her dark-violet eyes were flashing with worry. The bright sun was shinning down on the family, a taller demon, the father, one next to him, about the age of 15 or 16, he brother, a shorter one than the girl, about 7 or 8.
“Quit biting your nails.” The taller boy said, “And don’t be so nervous, Hikari.”
“I can’t help it…” Hikari muttered, “I mean, what if he doesn’t like me, Daiokou?”
“He will, wait and see.” He replied with a warm smile. She nodded, but still couldn’t help but continue to worry.
As a few more minutes passed by, three other dog demons appeared from through the trees. The Lord and Lady of the Western Lands, with their son, here to meet the Lord of the East with his two sons and his daughter.
The two lords stepped up first, greeting each other with a bow. "It's good to see you again, Lord InuTaishou."
InuTaishou nodded, "As it is, you, Lord Tatsuya." He turned and motioned for the boy to walk up. He did, but kept his head down.
Hikari looked over at him, and saw him look up for a moment, his golden-amber eyes meeting her violet ones, but he uickly looked away.
InuTaishou put his hands on the boy's shoulders. "This is my son, Sesshomaru." He said, giving him a small push foward.
"And this is Hikari." Tatsuya said, nudging Hikari.
The two children stepped forward, Hikari giving him a nervous stare, and Sesshomaru was still looking at the ground. Finally, he was the first to speak, "K-konichiwa, Hikari-chan." He muttered, looking up.
Hikari nodded, "Konichiwa, Sesshomaru-kun." She replied.
Through the two couldn't see it, the two families were smiling directly behind them. "Well, why don't we all go back to our manor," InuTaishou said, "Hopefully, we can break the ice there."
~Several Hundred Years Later~
As the dawning light shone across the dew-stricken grass, Hikari felt her eyes start to slowly open. She looked around t her suroundings, the same as the night before, a small waterfall running into a pond to her right, leading into a river, her head resting against a tall tree.
She now looked about the age of 16 or 17, her long hair, now reaching below her knees, her female figure developed, two purple demon marks on the right side of her face, one on her left side, and she was standing at a proud six foot. A sword resting at her side, a quiver full of arrows and holding a bow, resting against the tree beside her, and a small pouch of water near it, used for various reasons, being a water-and-ice-alligned-dog demon.
She slowly go up, stretching her aching limbs. "Now...why was I thinking about all those years ago?" She asked herself, kneeling down next to pond and splashing her face.
'So much for working out...' She thought sarcastically, 'After meeting that Sesshomaru, I grew up...raised by my father and brothers after mother died, then they were killed 50 years ago by those demon slayers minupulated by Naraku, and I haven't seen him since...'
"Psh, it's not like he'd probly ever remember me anyway." She said aloud. Hikari told herself this all the time, hoping just to forget about that Sesshomaru, 'prince of the west', but it was hard to forget the warm summer days when they had spent so much time together in their childhood.
She sighed and picked up her quiver and water pouch, slinging them over her back, then set off once again, just like every day, scouring to the ends of Feudal Era Japan for Naraku, wanting revenge for her familie's deaths.
The arrows on her back produced enough holy energy to make any demon cower back, but for an odd reason, it didn't seem to affect her in the slightest, for this reason, she didn't understand. She had gotten them, along with the bow from the great priestess, Kikyou, who had trained her for several years.
The sword at her side, the Korimizu, was given to her, by her father, at his death-bed. He and her older brother had both trained her to fight with a sword, so she was skilled with the long, slender blade.
And finally, the water pouch...it had been her mother's...Lady Lilith of the East, had ordered to be given to her on Hikari's 13th birthday, it carried a powerful healing properties from the South, and Hikari hadn't used it, let alone taken it from the pouch. She was saving it for something special, something for when she knew would be the right time to use it.
The trees and bushes withing the small glade rushed by Hikari as she ran as fast as her legswould carry her, he smiled slightly to herself. 'Today...is the day.' She thought, 'I'm going to fianlly meet up with Naraku and kill him off...once and for all...only then will I have revenge for my family's deaths.'

~Chapter Two~
For hours, Hikari scouted throughout the Eastern Lands for any kind of lead as to where Naraku was.
Nothing
Just like everyday since her father and brothers where killed.
Nothing
As the sun started to set over the horizon, she sighed. 'Once again, an empty catch for the whole day.' She thought, slumping down against a tree. The river was steadily flowing beside her, it's soothing slashes comforted her as she crossed her arms across her chest and closed her eyes.
'I'll never find him...' She thought, opening her eyes again and looking up at the sky.
The sun was almost gone, only the light colors were left mixing together in the sky. The blue mixing with the purple, the purle with the red, the red to orange, and finally, the golden-amber nearest to the sun. Small stars were already beginning to line the sky with their bright shimmering light.
"Shizen Kirei." She muttered, "Beautiful Nature..."
She sighed and looked across the stream, only seeing a bloody figure. She lifted her head and caught the scent, it was another demon...another dog demon...
Hikari jumped up, looking over at the figure. He was unconscious on the ground she saw that his chest was bleeding. 'What had happened? Who was he?'
Hikari quickly stepped through the cold stream, but as she did so, he quickly sat up and she noticed his eyes turn red. He growled and hissed, bearing his fangs at her. I was started and fell back into the water. Hikari's face become hot with anger and embarrassment. “Yeah, grrrarr to you too, buddy.” She growled, getting out of the water and quickly bending all the water off her soaked clothing.

~Chapter Two~(continued)
When She looked back up at him, Hikari saw he was leaning against the tree he was under, clutching his chest. She walked out of the water and kneeled next to him. “Are you alright?”
He glanced over at me and Hikari saw his eyes were back to normal. They were golden-amber and they were burning with pain, but he quickly tried to hide it. “Why does it matter to you, human wench?”
'I'm was appalled, how dare he speak to me like that?' She thought in shock.
“Humph, you need to clear your nose.” Hikari replied coldly, “I am not a human, I am a dog demon. Get your scents right.”
He glared. “How dare you speak that way to me, wench.” He growled, “I am the lord of the West.”
“I am the lady of the East.” She growled back, “And stop calling me wench...are you alright?"
He gave a questioning look. “Why do you want to know?”
“Because, when one of my own kind is injured, I want to see if they need help.” Hikari replied, “And, I’m too damn nice. Now, are you going to answer me?”
He turned his head away. "It's none of your concern."
"Fine." She said, getting back up and turning around next to the stream.
Gently placing her hand over the water, she felt it wrrap it's self around her hand then she smiled to herself. 'Hope you're quick.' With that thought, the water left her hand and then next thing she heard was:
"What the hell was that for?"
Hikari turned around, smirking. "No reason, I just felt like doing it." She replied.
The other dog demon scowled, but as he was about to say something, but closed his mouth and kept looking at Hikari.
“What the hell are you look’n at?” She demanded.
“Nothing.” He replied, quickly looking away.
“Well, you had to be looking at something. Do you have a problem with me?”
“Yes, I do.” He growled back, “So why don’t you just leave?”
Hikari stood up. “Fine, I wil-“ She stopped in mid-sentence and looked down as she
saw an imp and a small human girl pop out of the bushes.
"Hey, Lord Jaken, that doggy looks like my doggy!" The girl whispered into the imp's ear.
"Lord Sesshomaru is not 'your doggy', silly girl!" The 'Lord Jaken' exclaimed.
But the girl wasn't listening, she walked right up to Hikari, “You’re pretty.” She said giggling.
“Why thank you.” Hikari said with a smile, and bending down, ”You’re as darling as a tenshi as well. What’s you’re name?”
“Rin.” The girl replied, blushing, then her eyes fell upon the other dog behind her, ”Sesshomaru-Sama! What happened!?”
“It’s nothing, Rin.” He said reassuringly, “I am fine.”
“Tch.” She scoffed watching him start to get up, 'What an idiot.'
Hikari started to walk away, leaving to group behind. The water gently brushed past her feet as Hikari stepped through the river again, and off to the other side into the dark forest.
Then, she heard Rin’s voice. “Wait, come back! Lord Sesshomaru needs your help!” She heard her foot steps in the water, soaked, and panting.
'The girl is too small for the stream...she'll be swept away if she-!' Hikari's violet eyes widened in shock as she watched Rin be swept under by the current.
"Damn it..." She muttered, throwing off her boa, sword, and quiver. Plunging into the river, Hikari swam after Rin, who was desprately trying to cling to the slippery rocks.
"Rin!!" A high-pitched voice shouted from the banks, obiously the imp.
'Hold on girl...I'm coming..' Hikari thought, taking a deep breath and diving down under the water again.---------------------------------

~Chapter Three~
'Hold on girl...I'm coming..' Hikari thought, taking a deep breath and diving down under the water again. She swam down, just in time to see Rin starting to sink under the waves.
She quickly grabbed her by the waist and swam back up to the surface, gasping for air. She put Rin's head on her shoulder and using one arm to swing, the other to hold onto her.
When she finally reached the banks, Jaken was nearly hypervenolating(sp?). "Is she alright?! Will she be okay?! Oh, if she dies, Lord Sesshomaru willl have my-"
"Shut up you stupid toad so I can hear if she's breathing or not!" Hikari growled, leaning her head down near Rin's mouth to see if she was alright, "She'll be fine, she's just knocked-out, so quit freting."
Jaken gave a sigh in reliefe.
"Now...what was she trying to tell me? Something about-" She looked over and saw Sesshomaru laying against the tree again, pale face, and eyes closed, "So, he's out too, huh?"
Jaken nodded, "Yes, and I'm not exactly sure why Rin would want you to help." He said, "You were compleately disrespectful to Lord Sesshomaru."
"He started it." She replied, "And shut your fat mouth, if you want me to help."
"Who said I wanted your help."
"What if I told you I lied about this girl being alright?" Hikari asked.
"Psh, you didn't lie, she's fine." Jaken said, trying to act as if he wan't worried.
"Oh, really? How would you know that?" He pursed his beak and sighed, not uttering a word.
Hikari smiled to herself, then looked back down at Rin, who was starting to open her eyes. "You did lie!!" Jaken exclaimed, "You said you...gahh!" Apparently he was confusing himself.
"I suppose I did." Hikari replied with a cold laugh.
"Y-you saved me..." Rin said in a shocked tone.
Hikari shifted her gance to the young girl. "Are you alright?"
"I am now, but...Lord Sesshomaru-"
"I'll take a look." Hikari sighed, turning around and looking at Sesshomaru. 'I can't believe this is him from a few hundred years ago...' She thought, roliing her eyes as sfe felt for a pulse, 'What a jerk he's become...then again...I wasn't much better...'
"Well, he's just out cold." Hikari sighed, "My manor is near here, I can heal him there." She gently placed his arm around her shoulders and stood up. 'Damn...he's heavy...'
She lead the way as they walked throught the forest, Rin and Jaken riding on the back of a two-headed dragon while Hikari walked with the unconsious Sesshomaru leaning on her.

~Chapter Four~
It had been hours after we finally made it to her house and she had treated Sesshomaru-Sama’s wounds and she didn’t leave his side once, but still, he didn’t wake up.
Finally, after hours, he groaned. When she looked down and saw that Sesshomaru was opening his eyes. “Are you alright?” She asked.
"Where am I?” He asked weakly.
“You’re at my manor in the Eastern lands.”
“Where are Rin and Jaken?” He asked, his voice full of concern
“They’re fine, just asleep now. Don’t worry.”
He gave a small, relived sigh and relaxed a slight bit, but he looked up at her. “Why are you helping me?”
“Have you seen Rin’s eyes when she asks for help? You just can’t say no to those eyes!” Hikari exclaimed, “Besides, it’s like I said, I’m too damn nice.”
He looked away. “I don’t need your pity.”
“It’s not pity.” She growled. He didn’t reply, so she sighed and stood up.
But, as she opened the door and was about to leave the room, he said, “I-I never caught your name, wench.”
Hikari stopped and turned around; his face was once again expressionless. She gave a smile. "Hikari, of the East. I’m surprised you don’t remember me.”
“Remember you?”
“Exactly as I thought…” She muttered, shaking her head, “You don’t remember those few hundred years ago when we were children and spent the whole summer together?”
He shook his head. “No…are you sure?”
Hikari nodded, “It’s fine, let’s just start a-new.” She stated, then saw him glance down at his chest and have a slightly suprised look on his face. "You're not wounded anymore, because I healed you."
“Are you a priestess?”
“No, I can bend water and make it do my will.” She muttered, “Water is my alie and friend.”
“So, are you a mage, then?” He asked.
“No, mages can control all elements, I am merely a water aligned-dog demon.” Hikari replied, "So, you’re feeling better, then?”
“Much better.” He replied, trying to sit up, but she gently placed a had on his shoulder.
“You shouldn’t try to get up just yet.” She said soothingly. He glared at her and continued to remain sitting up.
“I’m fine.” He replied coldly, “I need to get some fresh air.”
“No changing your mind then?” He remained silent, apparently that was a yes, “Alright…there is a beach out back and a courtyard there too.” She stood up, then watched as he slowly stood up, wincing only ever so slightly.
When they walked outside and walked to the shoreline Hikari sat down on the beach. Sesshomaru gave her another questioning look, but she merely smiled and motioned for him to sit next to her. He walked over and slowly sat down.
It was just turning dawn, and the purple and black sky retreated back as the bright sun rose over the dark waters. “I loved watching the sun rise.” She sighed, “I used to every morning, until…”
“Until what?”
“Until, father was killed by demon slayers who were minipulated by Naraku, and so was my brother, Daioukou.” She replied, looking down at the sand and doodling in it with her finger.
“What about your mother?”
“She died when I was young. I hardly remember her.”
“I haven’t seen either of my parents for a while now.” He muttered, “My father died two-hundred and fifty years ago, and my mother…she’s still alive, but I haven’t seen her in hundreds of years.”
HIkari remained silent. They sat on the shoreline, the sun still rising and the waters rolling up along the shore.
“This is the first time I’ve ever actually bothered to sit down and watch a sun rise.” Sesshomaru said after a few minutes, “I’ve seen them, but never actually taken the time to watch it rise.”
"You should watch them more often. They truely are amazing." 'And I'm just talking to be talking right now...' She thought, feeling her face get red.

~Chapter Five~
Sesshomaru glanced over at Hikari and felt slightly confused when he saw her blushing. 'Why is she-' His thoughts were soon interupted when he heard the doors of the manor slide open and close. As he turned, he saw Rin smiling and waving at them.
Hikari looked over her shoulder and smiled a little bit before turning around again. Rin stopped next to them and sat in between both of them. She looked form Sesshomaru, to Hikari, from Sesshomar, Hikari, and back to Sesshomaru, finally moving closer to him and whispered in his ear, "Lord Sesshomaru, she's-"
"Another dog demon? I know." He muttered, looking away.
"No." Rin replied, "I was gonna say she was pretty, but I didn't want to say it aloud because it'd be rude."
He was still looking away, but Hikari glanced over at Rin, still blushing, "I'm not pretty...Rin? Is that it?" She asked, trying to quickly change the subject.
"Yup, that's it." Rin replied with a smile.
"Well, are you hungry, Rin?" Hikari asked, while standing up. She nodded, "Why don't we all go inside? Perhaps I can make us someting for breakfast."
"Okay." Rin grabbed her by the hand and started to drag Hikari towards the manor, but stopped at the stairs, looking behind her to see if Sesshomaru was following, "Lord Sessh-"
"He probly wants some alone-time, let's just let him be, alright?" Hikari suggested. Rin nodded again and they walked back up the manor stairs, leaving Sesshomaru sitting out along the beach line.
'So...we've met before?' He thought, narrowing his eyes and searching the deep recsesess of his mind, 'Then...why don't I remember her...?'

~Chapter Six~
:*Later that Night*:
Hikari was standing out on the wooden porch, looking up at the diamond stars spread across the deep ocean of sky above her. Everything was quiet, or, more claming, the crickets were once again, making their sad song to spread over the whole land, creating the music of the night.
A slight breeze found it's way onto the porch and where Hikari was standing, gently wove it's way through her long purple-silvery hair. She sighed happily to herself, but couldn't help but feel alone. Even if Sesshomaru, Rin, and Jaken were there, she still felt alone.
Sure, it was nice and clam now, but how long was it going to last? Another hour? Or perhaps a week? She could never tell for certain. With Naraku still out wandering about, it was never safe to stay in the same place for a long time.
'I can't even enjoy my own home...' She thought, 'Nothing's the same anymore...'
It was nice to be in the presence of another inu youkai, this she had to admit, but still, it wasn't the same. Sesshomaru had become cold and arrogant, for a reason unkown to her, but she too had changed, after her family's deaths, nothing was comforting, and she found it hard to trust anyone.
She sighed again and started down the wooden stes, leading out into the courtyard, breathing in the sweet aroma of the spring flowers, mixing with the sea's scent, something she found soothing.
Hikari turned, feeling something gently tugging on her boa. That's when she saw anoher old friend, and one that had remembered her. "Well, well, you've definately gotten bigger, since the last time we met, haven't you, dragon?" She asked, smiling at Ah-Un. He growled happily back as she gently placed and hand on each of their head's.
"It seems he likes you." A deep voice said form behind Hikari. She turned to see Sesshomaru walking over to her, "That's strange, he had only warmed up to three people before, me, Rin, and Jaken."
Hikari smiled slightly, "I suppose it is strange..." She muttered. 'No...it's not really...we found him, together, those few hundred years ago...how do you not remember?' She thought.
Silence rolled over them for a few minutes, then she stood up, "So, you are the current ruler of the West, correct?" She asked, he nodded, "Alright, then tell me...why are you traveling around, and not staying at your manor?"
"Well, why do you?" He replied, "Most women don't travel around these ruthless-youkai-infested lands by themselves."
"I'm trying to find someone and protect my lands." Hikari said, "Isn't that what any ruler would do?"
"Males, yes."
"Well, the way I look at it, is why do the males only do this? Why can't females?"
"So, does the lord of the East stay here?" She shook her head, "Then, where is he?"
Hikari smiled saddly, "There is not lord of the East." She replied, "There hasn't been for fifty years, when my father and brothers died. I've been running these lands by myself, weather it's defending and fighting, or making treaties, it's been only me the whole way."
"And you have no mate?"
"No." She replied slowly, giving him a questioning look, "Why do you want to know? And why are you asking so many questions?"
"You said we've met before, but I have no recollection of it." Sesshomaru said, "I want to see if anything will trigger those memories, because...for some reason, I feel I can trust you."
"Hmph, trst...what a waste of time." She scoffed, "I've only lived on like this because I don't trust. The last time I did, I...I was betrayed."
"I don't trust many, but it is as I had said," He replied coldly, "I felt I could trust you. Something in my instincts told me....besides, if you don't trust, what about the fact that you had helped me and allowed me, and my compainions, to remain here?"
She was silent before answering, "...Well...I've known you for most of my life, and...I remembered you." She muttered, looking away, "I thought you would be the same, but I was a fool for thinking so."
He cocked and eyebrow, "How's so?"
"You've become so cold and hearltess, showing no emotion to anyone."
Sesshomaru was slightly supprised. No one, not a single person, had ever even dared to speak to him in sucha manor. He recovered after a few seconds, the shock hidden once more.
"To be a great youkai lord, you must remain emotionless to the world, cold, and remain heartless, that way, everyone knows that you are not one to be bothered and one who is powerful and intends to strike fear into the hearts of others." He said harshly, glaring at her, "And you would do well to show respect."
She returned a glare just as death-like, "Don't tell me I need to show respect. You were the one who was calling me a wench, when I was trying to help you, and when I'm in the same ranking as you." She replied coldly, "So, don't start barking at me, I was merely speaking the truth, and one you needed to hear."
Once again, Sesshomaru was suprised at her lack of respect, watching her walk off. "How dare she!" He growled to himself, "That-" He stopped in mid sentence as he felt something tug his kimono sleeve. He looked over his shoulder and saw Ah-Un.
"So, you remember her, hm?" He asked. Ah-Un growled, "Well, I don't."
Ah-Un growled again, this time slightly more angry. "What?" Ah-Un nudged him in the back of the legs to where Hikari had walked off, as if to say 'Baka, go after her.'
Sesshomaru growled to himself out of irritation and walked off towards to opposite direction Hikari went, "Just leave me alone, alright? I need to think things through, I don't even remember her, and at this point, I'm not exactly sure if I want to." He growled back to Ah-Un.

~Chapter Seven~
Two days had passed by since Sesshomaru and Hikari's 'fight', and the air was thick with tension for a while, or atleast it had for a few hours the next morning, but then things started to loosedn up after a while and grow more comfortable for not only the two Inu DaiYoukai's, but for Rin, Jaken, Ah and Un, who had been caught in the middle.
~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a few hours before dawn, the most quiet and peacful hours of the day. Hikari quietly walked down the wooden steps on the large porch, careful not to wake anyone sleeping inside because of the creaking boards.
She stopped and stretched her aching limbs. "I suppose I have a few hours to myself..." She muttered, "A nice dip in the hot springs sounds nice..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hikari slowly lowered herself into the warm and relaxing waters, leaning her head back on the rocks, and closing her eyes. 'This is perfect...' She thought, sighing slightly.
A few minutes passed on, she heard light footsteps in the grass. Hikari's eyes immmediately shot open and she saw the outline of someone in the mist. She tried to catch the scent, but found the mist was canceling it out.
Within a few seconds, the mist started to lighten and she saw exactly who it was. Hikari's eyes widened slightly in shock, quickly hidding everything but her head underwater. "HENTAI!" She exclaimed, thrusting her hand out of the water.
A large burst of water erupted from the hot springs and hit Sesshomaru dead-on, knocking him over instantly.
Once the water cleared, Hikari saw Sesshomaru was laying in the grass, drenched and by the looks of it, knocked out cold.
Hikari quickly jumped out of the water and threw her clothing back on as fast as possible, unsure how long he would be knocked out.
~As she finished tying her obi, Hikari heard Sesshomaru start to stirr behind her. She walked over and bent down next to him, her hair still dripping wet. Gently laying a hand on the side of his face, she lightly pushed back the bangs that were sticking to his face, because of the water.
'Wh-What am I doing?!' She thought, quickly pulling her hand back and blushing, 'He's a peeping tom and I'm sitting here stroking his hair! What the hell am I-' Her thoughts were interupted when she saw Sesshomaru start to open his eyes.
"A-Are you alright?" She managed to choke out, still blushing.
He slowly sat up, nodding his head while he coughed up water. "I'll be-" Sessomaru stopped in mid scentence, his face showing more shock than he ever felt before as his head was turned the other direction and a large red mark started to appear on his left cheek.
"Good!" She yelled, standing up and starting to stalk off, fuming.
It took Sesshomaru a moment to register the fact that Hikari had slapped him. When he finally recovered, he jumped up and started to walk off after her.
When he finally caught up, he said, "Listen, Hikari, I never ment for that to happ-"
Hikari quickly rounded on him, and ran into his chest, not realizing he had been directly behind her. "Then what did you mean to happen?" She asked, feeling her face get even reder when she realized her had stopped her from falling by wrapping his arm around her back.
He smirked slightly ather reaction. "Obiously not that. I was merely out walking, I had no idea you were up this early." He replied, "Besides, I'm still trying to see if I remember anything about you, so why would I look at you like that?"
She was still looking away, 'You mean besides the fact you're holding me like this right now?' She thought angrily, then heard the last words he said and looked up into his eyes.
"You honoestly don't remember...anything? Anything at all?" She asked quietly.
Sesshomaru shook his head. "No, I don't."
She sighed, "It's probably for the better anyway..." She muttered, then turned a slight shade of pink, "Um...Sesshomaru?"
"Hai?"
"Would you mind letting go of me? I think I can stand on my own now, thanks."
They both had only just realized he still had his arm around her back. He quickly let go and she slowly turned on heel and left, dashing out of the area, her face red as a beet.
That was when Sesshomaru caught a scent that sent his mind whirling. He felt dizzy all of a sudden and had to lean back against a tree, or else he would have fallen to the ground. He was holding his head, feeling a slight twinge of pain in the back of his head. 'I-I remember...not all of i...but small protions...of something from my childhood...' He thought looking back to where Hikari had run off to, 'That's her...from all those years ago...'
