I was wondering...Is that fluffy thing in Sessomarus shoulder his tail??? :questioning:

I read many fanfics describing it as his tail and a lot of fanarts say it's his tail. It's not very certain what it is so it's unknown but it runs in the family, tell you that much.

It's not a tail. Rumiko once stated that she added mokomoko because she thought it looked cool. She doesn't even know. It's just there.

She said it was originaly apart of his armor, but exaggerated it a bit. (what an understatment XD) But, she liked the look, so she kept it.

It has also been said that it is a sign of status. I.e. the fact that his father has two, shows that he is very important, where as Sesshoumaru only wears one shows that he is not of the same status. The fact that Rumiko thought that it just looked cool is probably right, considering that it has been quoted in magazines.

I kinda think it is a part of his youkai form (giant dog form) that remains with him in his human form. If you notice, he has a large amount of fur that goes over the same shoulder when he is in his Youkai form. Also, another thing that leads me to believe that he was born with it is that it bleeds when it gets stabbed by the sou'nga in the third movie. And if you look closely when he lifts his right arm up, it kinda looks like it is attached to him at his armpit.

See I think it's a tail because in one of the episodes with the band of seven it looked like it was bleeding when it was stabed. And that it looked like when he goes into his demon form that it turns into his tail. Becuase his dad has two on his shoulder, in his demon form he has two tails. But that's just me. lol

Good point. There is no point in arguing about it. Everyone probably thinks it is something different since the artist doesn't even really know what it is. Everyone is entitled to their oppinion.

the correct answer is that it's a pelt. Rumiko said it in an interview. even if i didn't know this, i would think it was just a boa. i mean, how can it be a tail?? and how can it be armpit hair?? eww that's just nasty...that would be a lot of armpit hair...and a good weapon if it smells like underarms...LOL

I REALLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY don't think it's a tail. I mean come on! Do you think one of the most popular characters would have (what he would call) a body part on his shoulder? I don't think so.

Like I said. It was in the series, during the band of seven arc. Not in any of the movies.

I've heard a lot of ideas on what that THING could be (a boa, his tail, part of somrthing he killed, armpit hair, or it could be part of his demon form) most likely he killed something and kept the pelt to use as a boa!

it was stabbed in the third movie and it bled. It was too high above his shoulder to have been his shoulder bleeding, Lady Lilith.

well it could be his tail but don't tail need to be connected to the body like for example koga or shippo's tail?

You are right it is part of his demon form watch the episode when he transformes in to his demon form its still there

Whether or not you think it bleeds in one episode or becomes part of him as he transforms in another (which really isn't a valid argument, since everything including his armor and weapons fuse with him when he transforms (I guess that makes his armor his skin and his weapons his fangs)) Rumiko Takahashi has stated on countless occassions that it's more or less there just cause it looks cool...

End of Debate. She wrote the story, I think she would know what it is and isn't. and she said it isn't a tail!

EDIT: *just had a spurt of brilliance* Maybe the Boa and his other garments are symbolic representations of him. So his armor is symbolic of his thick, strong skin, the Tokijin His fierceness in battle (his left fang like his father's is Tetsaiga), the tenseiga is symbolic of that small part of him with compassion (His and his father's right fang(s)), and his boa represents his outer beauty.

...just a thought.

i really dont know it could just be a family custom showing royalty or it could be he needs this in order to transform or its his tail or a fashion styly thingy or ...
