Sai and Suigetsu.... Could they be brothers? Who knows. Maybe yes, maybe no. Now, we have to consider both sides in this!

Let's start with the 'Yes they are' side:

- Well, when you look in the manga with Sai's picture book about him and his brother, you see little Sai on one said, and than his brother on the other. We didn't know the brother's hair colour, except that it's lighter than Sai's. With the manga, we see the hair colour. A sliveryish white-blue mixture, non? Same as Suigetsu's. Now, Kishimoto-sensei would have definitely told the people who make the anime what colour Sai's brother's hair would be, since it's pretty important.

- Suigetsu has a brother!!! We don't know who Houzuki Mangetsu is, because he never shows up. Crazy, I know! But get this; Sai's name really isn't Sai! O.O Sai is just a name that Danzou gave him, sooooooooo it is possible that Sai's really name is Houzuki Mangetsu!

- Okay, so Sai's brother is supposedly dead. But it's very possible that Orochimaru just captured him and his and Sai's village announced that Suigetsu was dead. It does say the he died from an illness, but who really knows?

- Guess what! Sai and his brother weren't blood related! This makes it even more likely!

Now for the other side:

- Sai clearly says that his brother died from an illness, so Orochimaru didn't kidnap him!

- Sai and Suigetsu are from different countries and Sai is definitely not from the mist country!

- Okay, so Suigetsu has a brother you never see. Suigetsu never did say if he were dead or alive. From they way they talk about him, it sorta in a way leans towards Mangetsu being dead.


Now, let's here your opinions on the matter! Are they brothers?

you know, I've been wondering this for quite a while now. I'm gonna go ahead and say that "yes they are" only because I really like this theory.

er...to contradict the "sai not from mist village" thing, wasn't it said that Sai and some other Root anbu members came from the mist village? Or something of the sort? I may have to go look that up, but I'm fairly sure it said something about the mist village and sai.

Hum.... I don't know. I can't remember myself. I know that Danzou put the ROOT ANBU through a training that resembles the one in the mist country.

ah...that could have been what I read, but I might have taken it in a different context....

Training like that of the mist village's. Read it last night or so, I should know. But they are all orphaned children, so they could have been imported. xD

Actually, I've come to realize something for this theory.

My theory?

Sai's un-blood-related brother, is Suigetsu's brother.

Aka, Sai's un-blood-related brother = Houzuki Mangetsu = Suigetsu's real brother.

Think about it. Sai's brother was clearly older than him, unless he died very recently (which I doubt, since that picture book looks old). Suigetsu's brother is older right?

Questions.

How does Kisame know Mangetsu? Did Kisame oversee Mangetsu's training, like Zabuza did for Suigetsu?

Was Mangetsu a member of the Shinobi Swordsmen from the Mist? Zabuza was twenty-six, Kisame is currently thirty-one or so. Mangetsu didn't look too old in flashbacks. Unless he had Suigetsu's ability, and could manipulate his shape/form/appearance? But wasn't Suigetsu's ability a result of Orochimaru experimenting on him?

Then how would Mangetsu also be a ROOT member? When did the SSftM breaks up? How did he get to Konoha?

Was he a member of the SSftM when he was younger, then joined ROOT after he somehow got to Konoha? Danzou is a very militaristic man who seems to stay by treating Konoha's enemies as enemies, but he wouldn't be against getting an enemy when they were young and recognizing their skill and having them work for him in my opinion. Are Mist and Konoha enemies? Were the Swordsmen an illegal group? I don't think so, as I think it's stated somewhere that when Kisame was LOYAL to Mist he was a member.

How much older than Sai was his brother? How old is Suigetsu? How much older than Suigetsu is his brother?

I think the most logical explanation if you follow this theory is:

Mangetsu was being trained by Kisame/some other SSftM member, along with his younger brother, Suigetsu, who was being trained by Zabuza. Somehow, Orochimaru got his hands on Suigetsu, and perhaps had something to do with Mangetsu's appearance in Konoha. Maybe in order to get his little brother back from (the flamboyant homosexual pedophile) Orochimaru, Mangetsu joined Konoha, and ROOT, so he could get an assassination mission for Orochimaru or someone close to him, and get closer, more inside information. There, he met up with Sai, a boy who he ended up becoming attached to, and Sai sort of replaced Suigetsu for him. Then, Mangetsu died, Sai become an emo-yet-not-emo ho, and the story as we know it unfolded.

OOH! I just remembered. Orochimaru picked up Kimimaro around Mist, right? Maybe he decided to snatch up some more little boys while he was it. Perhaps he saw his fighting skill. For whatever reason, he either got Suigetsu then or came back later. Also, Kimi and Juugo were friends, and Juugo and Suigetsu know each other. Maybe from a fight or whatever once upon a time. So, Orochimaru brings in Kimimaro and Suigetsu, they stop by Juugo's cell to check up or whatever, Suigetsu aggravates Juugo, Juugo goes bezerk (but not curse seal, I'm pretty sure), Kimimaro stops Juugo somehow, Juugo gains respect for Kimimaro but is all, "screw you Suigetsu".
