This has got to be my favorite anime that I've watched. It's so gory, funny, tragic, deep and yet so beautiful all at the same time. The ending honestly got me crying; especially how the managa ended. Now how did the manga end, I'm not telling but let's just say it ended differently then the anime.

Basically, in a nutshell, the anime is about a teenage Diclonius (a mutated human with cat like horns and vectors that are potenitally dangerous) who had escaped from an organization that uses Diclonius' as guinea pigs for experiments or kills them. She then gets washed up on a beach and ends up being taken under the care of two teenagers. (I forgot to add that the Diclonius, called 'Lucy', had gotten shot in the head resulting in her split personality known as 'Nyu') These two teenagers are unaware of who or what 'Nyu' really is.

Well, that's the basic plotline but there's a whole lot more to this anime then just that.

If you're sick of anime like Naruto, Inuyasha and other kiddy anime, then watch this. I promise you, it is some of the best anime I've seen (I've even gotten a few friends into it).

As a critic, I was beyond impressed by this anime. There is a great deal of nudity, violance and swearing but hey it's all worth it in this anime.

My favorite character just has to be Lucy. She is very (and almost) unlike most protagonists in anime. She actually does have character development and changes throughout the series; whereas protagonists like Inuyasha remain a loud mouthed moron throughout the entire series. How does she change you ask? go watch the series and see for yourself.

I love the anime, at first I only watched it because I was told it was good but I really ended up liking the anime. It has everything a good anime should have.

I love the opening theme of this anime.

But I find the ending song to be completely unsuited.

Actually, I'm currently exploring that anime. I got hooked on the first episode.

In a weird way, the opening theme makes me sad, but there's a weird sad, scared feeling when I watch the first ep over again, cuz I know what's coming.
Lucy is amazing, taking a shot like that and living! But she scares me a little. In the third ep, I thought she killed the puppy and freaked out.
I was a little dissapointed to find there were less than 15 episodes though...

I'm downloading all of them through Veoh right now, actually. ^^

I cried through all 44 minutes of episodes 12 & 13.

I don't cry for movies or anime, alright?
I cried in Titanic, when Jack died.
I cried in RENT, when Angel died.
I cried in The Fox and the Hound, when Tod got dropped off.
And, now I cried in Elfen Lied.

Pansy.

I cried in episode 8, 12 and 13. :(

I was so sad.
They had to blow the little girl and Kurama up.....I was sobbing...I mean like really sobbing. It was sooooo sweet...she was so cute(even if she was evil) and I didn't want her to die. Her little speech....
"You know, Daddy, when I was locked up in that dark room I dreamed I'd be able to meet you. And then you'd open the door and say Come Out and I would and there you'd be! And we would be a family, you me and Mommy!"
I started bawling.
I had to back up so I wouldn't get water on the keyboard...
And then Nana....she was so cute also, I cried when Lucy chopped her to pieces too....All she wanted was Kurama's praise....

:cryriver: :cryriver: :cryriver: :cryriver: :cryriver: :cryriver:

Oh no.......I'm going to start up again....

I just read the manga.

*Spoiler*

Lucy's real name is Kaede.

That's all I'm giving away.

This is indeed a really good anime, I bought the box set a long time ago, and it really isn't that pricy either, the most expensive I've seen it for has been about $60. It's a great story which delves into the theme of cruelty, how as a viewer, you see Lucy ripping people apart with complete disregard as to how much pain she's causing, likewise for those who experiment on the diclonus. It covers this theme in other ways as well, the show deals with a girl who has a pedaphile as a stepdad, and how her own mother refuses to believe her own daughter, that the man she loves could ever do such a thing. Another thing is Lucy's backstory, which, in my personal opinion, has the most violent scene on the entire series, and the real kicker is: you don't really see anything, which is very interesting considering there are scenes so violent and graphically detailed(ie. flying human insides, lots of blood). The biggest thing is that it has a very large emotional impact on the audience as well as the characters.

On one more note, one thing that I did like about the starting, the girl killing people off so easily is completely naked, she's wearing only this helmet that covers her face. I found this added to the scene in the fact that she's naked and bullets still can't hit her, in a way, it tells the viewer how powerful she is, or like me you're talking to the TV telling the guards to just get out of there. Now that I think about it, i might have to watch it again soon.
