Title: Until the day I die
Description: A new one

Oshiori - December 23, 2007 06:36 PM (GMT)
I know I haven't posted a story in quite a while, I've been so busy, and I'm really sorry. But no worries.
I'm going to post yet another one, and I would appreciate reveiws. ^^
It's kinda strange, but I think it's alright....

Prologue

Inuyasha put his pen down and sighed, looking up at the clock. The minute hand seemed glued down so it was immoblie. He swore it had been 12:26 for 30 minutes now. With a little smirk he rolled over his week.

He and his girlfriend, Kagome Higurashi, had gotten married just last Monday. He worked as the head of a large company that not only worked with Science and HealthCare, but was a huge manufacturer of perscription medication....which meant he was bloody fricken' rich, to put it simple.
Kagome worked in the hospital only 3 blocks away. She was a floater, doing everything from the office work, to being a nurse, to being a surgeon....so she was no poor chick either.
He also counted off his close friends.
Miroku, a rather lecherous fool who worked alongside him when issues struck, but had his own company of random yet needed things. His wife, also a friend of his and Kagome's, a pretty brunette named Sango, had her own night club...which she threatened to close each time her husbands' toe crossed the line.
His brother and him were not as near....evil towards each other. While their conversations were short, sweet, and filled with uneasy tension, it was not a downright brawl, which-with his temper-had to say something.
Also his last, newest, and to be closer friend.
His name was Keitaryou, and he was a Bat Demon, also in charge of a major company that was to be joined with his soon. They'd be partners.
He had a young daughter, almost teen, name Oshiori. She was rather cocky and had a lot of spunk in her. She had a rather short temper and, though Keitaryou tried hard, was ill mannered. She was a good kid, she just had some issues with her Half-Demon self and her abusive Grandmother.

Inuyasha smiled and continued his paperwork.
He jumped when the phone rang. It was rare to get a direct phone call, he was used to his secretary, a nice girl named Kamuko, to alert him to calls from this person on so-and-so line.
He picked up the reciever (made specially for his dog ears) and held it up,
"Takahashi speaking,"
"Inu, get down here,"
He was surprised at the tone in her voice. Had something gone wrong in the hopsital? He swallowed and asked, "What's wrong, Kagome?"
She refused to say anything more,
"Just get down here!" and the line went dead.

Inuyasha swung his coat on and hurried out of the door, telling Kasumi he was taking emergency leave. She didn't go to protest, but picked up the phone to call and explain that he was leaving, and to re-schedule the meeting he had.

Inuyasha put his cell phone on speaker as he buckled his seatbelt. He called all his friends: Miroku, Sango, his brother...
He frowned as he dialed the final number, Keitaryou's.
His stomach turned over when he got a monotone answer,
"I'm sorry, this number is no longer functional. Please try again,"

Inuyasha entered the hospital in a rush, hurrying towards the main office. His sharp ears went to immediate hell as the sounds of the sirens and heart rate moniter beeps rebounded off the concrete walls. He grimaced as he leaned to the counter, "Hello, Tai, where's Kagome?"
The small woman looked up to him, then pointed to her left,
"She's busy, but she told me to direct you to room 45,"
"Okay, thanks!"

Kagome was standing by the door of Room 45, looking anxious. When he was close enough, she clutched his jacket,
"...I-Inuyasha...it's Keitaryou...." she stared into his eyes, her own were red rimmed, as she'd been crying, "He was hit by a drunk driver and...he...didn't....he didn't make it..."
Inuyasha's stomach sank and settled in an unusual spot. His cleared his throat,
"....A-And his daughter? What about Oshiori?!"
Kagome finally stepped back,
"T-That's the thing! We've already looked over his will...it said we could if he died in a hospital...and it...um, he's left her to you! You're her legal guardian!"
Inuyasha's eyes grew wide,
"What?! You mean...I have to adopt her?!"
Kagome nodded,
"Actually, all you have to do is sign a paper, and then she's legally yours. She doesn't have any other family, and so he left her to you because he knew you'd be able to support her...."
She paused to bite her lip,
"....You'll have to choose after she wakes up. She got a pretty nasty head injury and was knocked unconcious."
Inuyasha only nodded and sat down.

What a dillema Keitaryou had left him with.

A/N: I dunno...but maybe if you tell me what you think I'll continue. If not, then not, but....still. I know it's probably weird and all, but please reveiw.

Okay. Thanks everyone! ^^
I'll post up the first chappie.

Chapter 1

Inuyasha pushed open the door and looked inside. Kagome was changing Oshiori's bandages, as she was injured from the crash. But at least she'd survived.
Her father....she didn't even know yet....she was totally oblivious....
Oshiori suddenly uttered a soft sound and her eyes slowly opened and focused. Their bright magenta color glowed and sparkled through the dazed confusion in them,
"...Eh? W-What happened?"
Kagome leaned over her like any nurse and gave a small, sad smile,
"It's good to see you awake. How d'you feel?"
"L-Like I just got hit by a truck,"
Inuyasha and Kagome exchanged uneasy glances. Hit close to home. He nodded to Kagome, urging her to go on, but it looked as though she was going to cry again. He'd have to do it.
Inuyasha stepped up to her bedside and cleared his throat,
"Um, Oshiori, you were in a very bad car accident. You and your father were hit by a drunk driver."
Oshiori stared at him, then said,
"Then where's my dad?"
Here they went. He had no idea how she'd react but he was ready for anything. Here it goes,
"...H-He....He didn't make it....I'm sorry...."
At first, Oshiori said nothing. She only stared at him in absolute awe, then she swallowed hard and whispered,
"A-Are you j-just kidding with me...?"
"Why would I joke about this?"
Oshiori looked away, unable to answer. Her hands clenched the blankets, causing the cuts on her hands to open and bleed. She looked back to him, looking scared and angry,
"It's not possible! My father would never die such a pathetic death! There's no way! Stop kidding with me, it's not funny!"
Kagome tried to calm her,
"O-Oshiori, we're not kidding. You're father didn't live through the crash, and niether did the drunk. You're the only survior,"
Oshiori's eyes widened drastically and suddenly brimmed with tears, she looked away, burying her face into her hands. It looked as though she was hopelessly trying to hold it in, but it escaped her-a choked sob and then a clean out bawl.
Kagome put and arm over her shoulder, looking up a Inuyasha with a worried and truly sad look,
"I hate this part of the job," she whispered.
Oshiori couldn't stop. Her father was dead. What to do now?
"Where do I go? I can't go back home with my Grandmother there, I'll just end up on the silver trey like dad..."
Inuyasha spoke up now,
"You don't have to, Oshiori,"

She looked up, her eyes still overflowing, but a bit hopeful,
"Wh-What?"
Inuyasha gave a nod,
"You don't have to go home. If you want, I'm supposed to take you in. Your father....left you to me,"
Oshiori stared at him,
"Left me to you? Like a piece of land or furniture?! Without even telling me!? Asking me?!"
Kagome's eyes told him to think fast. Hot tempered and a Half-Demon, Oshiori could go off. He bit his lip and spoke quickly,
"He just wanted to make sure you'd be supported. He didn't want you to back to your Grandmother, knowing how she'd treat you,"
Oshiori's shoulders slumped. She sighed heavily and nodded,
"I know....it's j-just...this is all happening so f-fast...."
She only sat there and hiccuped for a while.
Inuyasha watched her sadly, truly sorry as Kagome.
He knew how it felt to loose someone, but he hadn't even remembered his dad, he'd been too young.
And Oshiori was nearly teen, soon to hit another growth spurt into maturity and become what she'd be. And this was a bad time, her father now gone, left with someone she barley knew...
A newlywed couple with no idea how to raise children, that's what they were. Keitaryou, what were you thinking?!
He held out his hand to Oshiori,
"Do you want to live with Kagome and I?"
Oshiori looked up and stared at him in confusion and shock,
"You'll take me?"
"Keitaryou left you me. I owe him. As long as you're willing to try and be...my....um, adopted daughter....I'm willing to try and be as much as a father figure as possible." he paused, "I know I'll never replace your father but..."
Oshiori gave a small, sad smile,
"....Alright....You can try,"

She took his hand.

A/N: That's the end of the first chappie. Hope you like. R&R!

Inari - December 24, 2007 11:44 PM (GMT)
Cool! reply soon!

Kaiame - December 29, 2007 01:01 AM (GMT)
I swear, im hooked on your work...PLEASE continue!

Oshiori - June 23, 2008 08:07 PM (GMT)
I know this might seem a really stupid way to reappear after being gone for so long, but I can't find the section for it! I can find everything else...except that.

Well, what can I say? This is WAY overdue for an update!

Chapter 2

Oshiori slowly packed her things, neatly stacking her clothes into her deep purple suitcase. They were all blue. Her family color, what she was forced to wear. Blue, blue, and some more blue.
Oshiori liked orange and green...not blue. Not anymore.
She stuffed all the books and toys/trinkets into a different bag, and al her jewelry and such in her backpack.
She looked around her empty room.
Empty...because she was leaving it....
She picked up a picture that sat on her dresser.
It was a picture of her and her father. Her father was standing behind her sitting in a chair, his hand on her shoulder.
Oshiori tucked the picture away and held in her sniff.

"...Um, are you ready?"

Oshiori looked to the door, where Inuyasha was standing, his hand on the frame. She nodded and put on her backpack, then picked up her other two bags, "Y-Yes,"
She followed him from the house out to his car.
Her Grandmother was standing on the porch, and as she passed her, Oshiori recieved a sharp blow to the head.
It jarred her eyesight and pained her wounds. She cringed, uttering no sound. Inuyasha gave a soft growl.
Oshiori put her things in the trunk of the car, avoiding looking at the house she'd called her home.
"That's right, just leave, you Half Bred *****,"
Oshiori's eyes closed, she shut the trunk a little harder than needed. She walked around to the side, where Inuyasha opened the door for her. Again, the deep voice called out,
"I always knew you'd reject the family someday, little slut,"

Oshiori slid into the car,
"Only to get away from you," she whispered.
Inuyasha shut the door, looking back to the elderly woman,
"Don't talk to her like that. She doesn't live here anymore, she's not under your rule anymore. She's with us now. You don't need to be a wench, anymore. Aw'ight?"
He didn't wait for an answer. He walked around the car, getting in and starting it up.
And so, Oshiori left the only home she'd ever known.

***
"This is your room,"

Oshiori looked around the rather large and cozy room,
"Wow....t-thank you..."
Kagome smiled warmly,
"You're very welcome. We'll leave you to unpack, when you're done you can come down for dinner if you'd like."
Oshiori nodded, swallowing hard. Tears closed up her throat,
"...H-Have you...ever lost someone?"
Kagome perked up, then said,
"....Yes. My father died when I was little...and Inuyasha didn't even know his father....so I guess..."
"We're all the same," Oshiori said, putting her bags down.
The first thing she did was extract that photo and put it on the cherrywood dresser. She sighed, then began to unpack.

~
Oshiori stared dully at all her blue clothes.
She turned when her door opened a crack, it was Kagome,
"...Oh, sorry, I was just wondering if you were alright. You...never came down..."
Oshiori realized it, "Oh! I'm sorry! I forgot..."
"It's alright," Inuyasha said, appearing behind Kagome, "You've got a lot on your mind right now..."
Oshiori nodded, looking back to her clothes. Kagome made an odd noise, "Oh, dear, are all your clothes that color?"
"Yep,"
"Whoa-ho! That's it, tomorrow, it's me and you! We're going shopping!" Kagome looked stoked.
Oshiori blinked,
"Sh-Shopping? F-For me?"
Inuyasha laughed a bit,
"Well, isn't that a good thing? Surely you don't like to wear blue all the time? If so, we won't bother-"
"...I....I like orange..."
"Then orange it is!!"
Oshiori simply smiled at them then looked around again,
"Well....I'm done."
Inuyasha frowned,
"It still looks empty in here. I'll get you a table...and another bookshelf seeing as yours is already overflowing."
"I read alot,"
Kagome grinned, "That's good for you,"
Inuyasha sighed and said, "Well, it's late. Maybe you should get some rest, Oshiori,"
The teen looked to the large bed, then back to them and nodded,
"Yeah...maybe..."

And ten minutes later, she was nestled under the sheets.
Kagome set a glass of water on her bedside table, and leaned over to kiss her forehead. Oshiori blushed, not expecting such.
Inuyasha ruffled her hair,
"Good night, Oshiori,"
"Sleep well."
"...G-Good night...Kagome....Inuyasha..."

Oshiori lay awake for a while afterwards,
"They're so nice...."
She rolled onto her side and got comfy,
"...But it's so different. My father...he didn't come and tuck me in."

Little did she know, that at that moment, Keitaryou was kneeled by her bedside, tucking the blankets around her,
"I'm so sorry, Oshiori. I love you, my daughter....I must go...I hope you find happiness here,"
Oshiori sighed in her sleep, then snuggled deeper into the blankets.
Keitaryou brushed her hair back, smiling sadly,
"Good bye, Oshiori. I'll be watching,"

A/N: Whoo. Oshiori is back! (whether that's a good thing or not...eh...)
Sorry for being gone, I'll try not to do this again...hehe. BYE!
