Title: Ripping Songs From CD's Now Illegal?
Description: Take a look at this...

I hope this doesn't build steam, but this does give me reason to worry:

Lawyer now says ripping CD's to MP3's for personal use now illegal.

If this builds up, we all could be in a HEAP of trouble.

I know one thing. I refuse to give up my iPod. God. Is this worldwide or just in America?

Because I swear to god, I'll move out of this country if it's just America.

Sesshomaru143 - December 31, 2007 09:27 PM (GMT)
Well Russian sites usually pay loyalties of about <$.09 per track so it's sorta startin to go global but it's still cheaper everywhere else...... and also a less likely chance of conviction.

Ashita Genki Ni Naare - December 31, 2007 09:34 PM (GMT)
It's also really stupid how they're so worked up over it. I'm not going to buy a CD and then buy it AGAIN on iTunes. I'm not made out of freaking money.

Aren't we supposed to be going FORWARD with technology? Last time I checked, a CD player was OLD. The iPod was New.

I would also like to state: The REASON I don't use iTunes as much as I probably would, is that they have a really SMALL collection of foreign music.

IronReaver4058 - December 31, 2007 09:36 PM (GMT)
File Sharing programs...perfectly legal..and EASY! ^__^

Patriot1776 - December 31, 2007 09:38 PM (GMT)
The RIAA, Recording Industry Association of America, doesn't like how CD sales keep dropping. Apparently to them, it's either buy your music through CD's, or do without your music completely. This is going over the top, saying you can't even rip your CD's so you can archive 'em and only use them to re-rip whenever your computer pukes on you.

Ashita Genki Ni Naare - December 31, 2007 09:43 PM (GMT)
I'll buy my freaking CDs if they have them at the store. But you know how many times I go to the store and they don't have them?

Half the time, they don't even HAVE a foriegn music section. So once the stores start getting foriegn music, I'll buy them. I don't have the money (Or priviliege) of buying CDs off the internet either. So, too bad for them.

Patriot1776 - December 31, 2007 09:50 PM (GMT)
I think though this may not apply hopefully to foreign music. It may only apply to music recorded here in the United States.

But still, this idea just doesn't make sense. To me, if the RIAA wanted to stop people from using MP3's and get them to using CD's for music listening, IMO they should go after the makers of the digital music players. Meaning they should go after Apple for making the iPod, Microsoft for making the Zune, etc. The only reason why people buy iPods and iPod-like devices is to rip and put their music on them. You want to stop people from ripping CD's to a large extent, go after the makers of the devices used by people to play the ripped songs on. That's my point of view. Leave the end-consumer out of it.

EXACTLY. Suing people just makes people mad. And makes us poor. Which in turn, makes us unable to buy the CDs even more. So wtf!?

Patriot1776 - December 31, 2007 10:07 PM (GMT)
The big record companies are only going to accelerate their demise by doing this. It's as plain and simple as that.

Ashita Genki Ni Naare - December 31, 2007 10:10 PM (GMT)
I mean really now, who's going to want to buy a CD from somebody who'll sue you for putting it on your iPod?

Lady ZeiKumi - December 31, 2007 10:11 PM (GMT)
That's the stupidest thing ever. I mean, if we already bought the CD and ripped it into our iPods and MP3 players, then why is it so wrong??

This country is seemly full of greedy, money hungry business men. Aren't they rich enough as it is? What a shame...

Sesshomaru_Sama_Fan_ - December 31, 2007 10:11 PM (GMT)
Wow. I'm posting my opinion everywhere today. XD Time to put 2 more cents into something. ^^

This is just plain stupid! They should realize that people are gonna keep doing it anyways...people buy the ipod, zune, mp3, ect, to put their music on there, and they even put a softwear program in it to rip the music from the CD's, so, people are gonna do it! >.<

I swear...people are so dumb....*rolls eyes*

That's one of the reasons I now associate business suits with 'greed' and 'corruption', that to me now business suits symbolize greed, corruption, and corporate brutality as well as boardroom brutality.

It's more like 5 cents now. Inflatation (sp) brought it up.

Technicaly, I vaguely remember that ripping anything - roms, music, dvd... - for personal uses only is legeal. No trading, no sale, just personal use.

In any way, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (the FBI of Canada) announced that they drop officialy any pursuits forverer on mp3 things, some weeks ago, if I remmeber well.

And personaly, I agree with the anti-copyright/copyleft movement, and the so-called Party Party phenomenon, born in Sweden.

AHAHAHAHAHA I wanna see the US government sneak into my computer and watch me illegaly download songs.

THEN I can file a lawsuit against them for spying on citizens of another country by ILLEGALLY entering personal property

Full Metal Jacket - January 2, 2008 04:54 PM (GMT)
The RIAA are a bunch of money-grubbing idiots.

Don't listen to them.

PS: If it was illegal, I'd be in jail :DDDDD -Has 1002 songs on his WinAmp playlist.-

IHATEKIKYOU12 - January 2, 2008 05:06 PM (GMT)
I don't plan on giving up any of my music. I either paid for it, or my brother did, and we're certainly not going to give any of it up for something stupid like this. Heck, don't you pay every month soley for internet use at all? Nontheless, I'm waiting for this all to blow over before I put my Guns-n-Roses CD on my Ipod. Trust me, they will not get away with this.

anime dragon - January 2, 2008 05:43 PM (GMT)
WTF is up with that?! I've never downloaded any music from the internet in my life. I've paid for all of it, and I'll get sued for having an iPod... I mean, wtf?!

You're not alone in saying that. Everybody outside of the RIAA, and I think I do mean EVERYBODY, is saying the same thing. Like I've said earlier, the big music companies are going to be digging their own graves if they seriously pursue this.

Actually my dad said that they really can't do that.
Because once you buy the CD its yours to use.
And that you can download it to your Ipod because you payed for it.
