Well, I have read the manga and LOVED IT! For christmas I got all the episodes on DVD and started watching them. The voices are alright, but I can't really stand Miaka's all that much. I dunno; just not how I pictured them to sound. However, everyone else does sound exactly how I thought they sounded, with a few differeances of course. They did cut out an entire arc of it just because of how violant it was; which is understandable, I didn't like that arc either.

I seriously LOVE Amiboshi and Suboshi a lot. <3 They're my favorite characters in this series and I can't wait to see them animated. I love Amiboshi a lot more though, then again, I always end up liking the really bad boys or the villians with a calm personality. But I do like Suboshi's character a lot as well. I also do like Tatara, I can hardly wait to see him animated.

However, what I didn't like about the anime was how the changed the names of Hong-Nan, Xi-Lang and the names of the other two countires ruled by the four gods. They did this in both Japanese and English version just to let you know. Manga version of this actually used the Chinese names of the countires. Hence why I perfer the manga so far.

But if you want to see an anime to due with the Chinese legends of the four gods (Suzaku, Byakko, Seiryu and Genbu) with a splash of comedy, romance and even at some point tragic points, then I would say watch this anime. You may or may not like it. I can't say if you'll like it; you have to watch it for yourself. There are some points about this anime you may not like, that's okay, there are some I don't like about it either. There are also 52 episodes along with 13ish OVA episodes to it.

But if you want to know the plot; well here it is:

Miaka Yuuki and Yui (I forgot her last name) are two average students who go to a forbidden section of a library one day and get sucked into a book called 'The universe of the four gods' that was translated from Chinese to Japanese. As these two girls are stuck in this world, they get special roles. Miaka is the priestess of Suzaku (the red peacock of the south) and Yui is the Preistess of Seiryu (the blue dragon of the north). They have to summon their god in order to have three wishes granted; which before that they need to find 7 people who have the chinese constellations on their bodies that fall under the same god (AKA, Seishis). However, Suzaku and Seiryu are bitter enemies which thus make Miaka and Yui rivals. Yui also has a crush on the Suzaku Seishi that Miaka had fallen in love with.

That's just the basic. Sounds interesting? Go watch it then.

I've read the first 4-6 mangas.
I liked the Chinese-idea but....I'm not into shoujo that much anymore because there are always about 2-4 guys who like the same girl. And then those kissing scenes...yuck.

Okay. I got the entire show on DVD and the OAV. The show is okay but I don't really think it's a great show. Now there are several parts I like but by the time they got to the OAV I really couldn't stand the show anymore.

Favorite characters:
Hotohori - he's very strong, loyal as can be, and also the obvious he's cute
Chichiri - he's smart, strong, has a great personality, funny. But his little catch phrase is annoying beyound all belief.

OMG I remember that too. My favorite was Chihiri. And I seriously hated Yui.

Yea, and besides the fact that she betrayed her best friend, she also was an arrogant biiiatch. Oh yea, I also liked Nakago and Soi.

I hate Yui. She annoyed me because she believed a phyco blond over a friend she knew for a long time. But then again I didn't like Miaka.

That was when I started hating her. I mean, before then I didn't but after she betrayed Miaka she just got annoying. At first, she was cool and all until she was all swoony for Tamahome.

Wow. I've been thinking about watching this anime next. I guess I'll pick it up as soon as I get home. ^^

In the subbed verson it was "No da" but in the dubbed it was "Ya know". Oh, man, did that get on my nerves. It was almost like every other sentance had that. After awhile I just wanted to punch him and he was one of my fav characters.

I love it! I have all of the episodes, and all of the manga. My favorite character is Nakago, I've always loved him. I feel sorry for him. The only character I can't stand is the Emperor who abused Nakago. Just bugs me.

I just realized how much I love this series again. And how much I lurve Nakago!

...I like how he died. And saw his mother and that lady in heaven or whatever that was supposed to be. But I hated how faithful he was to Yui.

Did anyone read the other series under the same name?

Supposedly about a girl going to that era and falling in love and something.. I read some of the first book; not as good as the original series, I'm afraid.

The one about the Preistess Genbu? Or are you talking about the OVA?

I thought it was poorly written.

The plot was basically the same as the one with Miaka in it, as far as I've remembered.

And the characters confused me.

Well, it is about the first preistess who entered the book.

It did answer some questions that the FY manga left floating around such as:
Who was Takiko?
How did Takiko get into the book first?

Although; I'm more interested in Suzuno's story.
