Title: Second IJ Forum: Make from Scratch? Or Convert?
Description: Critical Vote, PLEASE PARTICIPATE!

Patriot1776 - January 2, 2008 02:52 AM (GMT)
Okay, me and several others have come up with the idea of starting this whole forum over from scratch since Miss IJ has completely abandoned this place and without an admin, there's a lot of changes that can't be made here.

By starting over with a new IJ forum, we can redo the layout and update things around here, and keep this place lively! What do you all think? Voting is for two weeks, 14 days. Let your voice be heard!

Hanyoukai - January 2, 2008 02:53 AM (GMT)
Sounds like fun I guess, maybe even a bit exciting. Starting from scratch seems better in my eyes, using someone else's forum kinda sounds odd.

IronReaver4058 - January 2, 2008 02:54 AM (GMT)
Start from scratch

Lady ZeiKumi - January 2, 2008 02:54 AM (GMT)
I voted for the first one. I think it's better to start off nice and new.

The Ubbergeek - January 2, 2008 02:56 AM (GMT)
Personaly, i,d wish to have this one nstead alive and well - it's a risky gamble, who could end up with two dead halves....

But start anew, in a NEUTRAL stance with a carefully chosen staff would be better in case it's imposisble.... I'd keep much of the rules and organisation from here, too.

Haiyato Berzerker - January 2, 2008 03:13 AM (GMT)
I honestly think we should try to make this forum as best as we can and leave making or converting another forum to replace this one as a last resort

Kaiame - January 2, 2008 03:16 AM (GMT)
I really don't care now, because I went ahead and made a new IJ, so I'll have it if we need it. its PROBABLY temporary, but, its there.

Ashita Genki Ni Naare - January 2, 2008 03:37 AM (GMT)
Um. I still like this IJ.

anime dragon - January 2, 2008 03:46 AM (GMT)
Leave it the way it is. It could turn out even worse if we empty it or start over again, like Dino did.

yinandyang17 - January 2, 2008 04:06 AM (GMT)
My vote is obvious.

La- - January 2, 2008 04:26 AM (GMT)
Just leave it, no matter what its gonna stay the same pretty much. Even if we do. Besides. even if we start over, no one would join because its this forum thats out on the internet. To get people to join, what are we gonna do? Post in every topic staying

"JOIN NEW IJ, LINK HERE" It'll be a waste of time.

Besides. IJ is IJ, so theres no admin? The moderators handle the forum pretty well, i ditched this place for a while, and when I came back, it was the exact same other then new members.

Well, thats my opinion. I agree with Ashita and AD, just leave it, for if we start over it could turn out worse.

Full Metal Jacket - January 2, 2008 04:45 PM (GMT)
There is no point in starting a 'new' IJ.

Infact, it will probably go to hell faster than this one did.

Saku-Tatsuya - January 5, 2008 05:49 PM (GMT)
Making a new IJ should be the last resort to anything.

To remind you people; it doesn't take one admin to make a board that much better. It doesn't take new mods, or new board colors to make a forum better. What you're all forgetting about is what exactly makes a good board. How the people act is what can determine whether a board is good or not. How everyone treats each other can determine whether a board is great or not. www.animeforums.com doesn't have a very active admin either but they are still a great board and its because of how the members act. Following the rules contributes to it a lot more then you think. Hell, it would actually lead members to actually join and be newer ones because they know everyone is civilized.

In short, it doesn't take Miss IJ to make the board better; it takes all of the community. You know, IJ was a good board without Miss IJ for the longest time and we can make it like that again. But it takes everyone who is still active on the board to contribute to making this one better. If you don't understand what this means; good for you.

Okay so maybe you think I'm on crack to realize this but I'm only saying it because I actually care. Besides, the mods can help us into making this board better. We don't need Miss IJ to do so. All we need are people willing to sacrifice their time and intolerance to help make this community even better. Also, bitching about how this board sucks doesn't help at all, it makes it worse.

My vote: Screw it all. <3

This place is hell..it won't be different, even if the layout becomes pink or light blue. >>;;

Who says that the new admin won't be totally screwed up? Meh, and plus with the new IJ you'll lose 3/4 of THIS IJ's members.

I don't like the idea.

I'm kind of in between the two decisions now. I think whatever happens, I'll just go with it and see if I like it or not.

I think starting over is a pretty good idea I guess but the admins and mods will need to be carefully selected. Though I think just making a real effort to make this one work would be more favorable... and less risky.

Haiyato Berzerker - January 6, 2008 08:12 AM (GMT)

And another note.

More mods? New mods?

Mods DON'T MATTER...I don't even bother with my job..there's NOTHING to do with my powers here whichiswhyiresulttotortur
ingmembers
So no, the 'new mods' thing is not killing the forum.

Forums die, it doesn't matter if they've been around a month, a year, or 234234 years..they ALL die eventually. This forum has been around since early 2004...4 years...it's okay if it dies. People have moved on from here, and soon it'll only be like 5 members here. Making a new IJ..it. will. be. the. same. thing.

Like I said before, it doesn't matter how different the new forum will be. It'll still be the same. And when I said 3/4 of the members won't join. The people that won't join will be the people who think the forum is a last resort and are too emotionally attached here.

I can't think of anything else, so I'm done. <3

Note to everybody: Voting on this matter ends on January 15 at 10:00 PM. I being the creator of this poll, HAVE NOT voted in it for neutrality reasons.

xoSammyRoxxo - January 12, 2008 03:18 AM (GMT)
Duh; start from scratch.

I chose that because this IJ has already been progressed for years and there are so much data... too messy to organize. And the fact that Miss IJ is the one with the most power (all of it) to delete topics in the whole forum, and etc. Candyland is way too disorganized and the moderator for that is never on (I've never seen him/her around).

To improve IJ a certian group of a few or more people needs to be removed, then we can work on improving IJ....

I'm not saying "OMG LETS GO AND BANZ THESE MUTHAFUUKZAZ" because that is not how this place should be run....
~~~~~~
anyone wanna fight with me I have a fully functional PM inbox, don't make a dumbass of yourself and flame me here or make a topic....
-SF- - January 12, 2008 07:06 AM (GMT)
this concept really made me laugh.
from a standpoint of someone who doesn't dislike this forum;
This IJ has all the members that wanna talk and their friends and whatnot. this should suffice as a board to communicate with the friends you have here. If you want more people, dont make a NEW IJ, just go to some other boards. Hell, experiment with different types of boards or communities. If you create a 'new IJ' it will leave few members here and few members at the new one. It's not like you can 'rebuild IJ.' IJ is no longer a community, in my eyes, but rather a place where a small group of friends can communicate (and some people who argue with those people linger...such as moi, occasionally.) If you want more members, or to have a more active forum, go join another. This whole thing is pointless. IJ is dead. the few people here are here for their friends who are here. I suggest you all stay here if you desire contact, but go for new forums as well. >>;;
now from a standpoint of someone who dislikes this forum;
you should start new. This place is decayed, and people don't spend much time here, unless they're fighting. If you start out with a clean slate, you might have a chance to toss away up the shitt that has corroded this place, and you might wind up forming a better community, if you can pull it off. However, as saku said..sort of, this would require all of the members to work together. And while good mods and an active admin would be good, its not the final solution to rebuilding the forum. If you really want to recreate IJ as a better community, search for all of YOUR FRIENDS, give THEM the links, establish a well working community, then start letting new people or just any left over people from here in. Doing that will also allow sort of a...filter, to keep people you'd rather not see there, out.
Now from a standpoint of a moderator/admin who might moderate a place in the same position as IJ;
Rebuilding a community takes a lot of effort. So does re-creating one. If you want to succeed, you have to think well about what you're doing, and how you're going to do it. you have to think of rules based on previous experiences. you have to think of ways to keep bots and such out. you have to think of ways that will make your forum look appealing but not 'anarchist' like. You have to make sure that the 'law' of the forum is enforced, but not be too uptight about it. you have to try to appoint trustworthy staff, people who you've known for a while, but also staff that the members like, because when members don't like staff, they become unruly. If you want to try to make the community grow, you must try to advertise well and try to make your community a community that people WANT to REMAIN a part of. This much work will be too much for some people.
Yeah. SF made some valid points that I agree with too. But in the meantime,
Barring some surprise, the votes of this poll will become official at 10:00 PM EST tonight. I think then the next step will be to then hold another two-week long vote on who's proposed 'new' IJ forum layout looks best to use.
