Time for a writing contest! Inspired by one I recently entered, I decided that it had been far too long since our last one.

I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU SAY, EVERYBODY CAN WRITE A STORY. None of us are professionals anyways. Enter just for fun. It feels really good if you can write a story in a given amount of time. It's a great feeling. SO JOIN, DON'T WORRY ABOUT YOUR ABLITIES.

Now since I know everybody hates walls of text, I’ll get straight to the rules.

Entries will be judged on…
Ideas: What type of story would it be if it was a boring idea?
Grammar: Come on, you can’t write without good grammar… (But don’t worry, I won’t wall of text you if you have bad grammar. I’ll leave that to others. xD)
Does it meet the rule standards? I can’t let somebody who breaks the rules win.

CONTEST ENTRIES MUST BE RECIEVED ON MARCH 22ND AT 6 PM EASTERN TIME
I will PM you to your IJ account once I recieve your story. If you do not recieve a PM, I have not gotten your story. If you do not recieve a PM from me, please PM me yourself. If your email is not reaching my email, then after talking to me and if I confirm it, you may just PM it to me instead.

Rules
1) IT NEEDS TO BE YOUR OWN WORK. Seriously, stealing is low. STEALING FOR A CONTEST, is even lower.
2) It needs to be AT LEAST 1,000 words. I’m not going to have somebody submit a 300 word story. That’s not a story. That’s a drabble.
3) Please, not over 12,000 words. That’s simply too lengthy and we don’t have time to be reading your fic for days on end. I’ll be lenient on this rule, but don’t make it like, 15,000. If you can’t write your story in under 15,000 words in a 1 month period, maybe you should consider a novel. (Or National Novel Writing Month. It’s in November. Have fun.)
4) No adult content If you win, your story could be floated. We don’t want 10 year olds reading lemons. If it is considered inappropriate, it will be disqualified. NO QUESTIONS. If you don’t argue, you may still submit another one. (Of course, still in the time limit)
5) Fan fiction AND original fiction is allowed But please, make sure that if you write a FAN fic, that it is at least well known enough that ONE of the judges know about it. PM me if you have need confirmation on your anime/manga/whatever. (Maybe if you give me enough advanced notice, I can watch it in time and allow you to write it.)
6) Now normally, I know that we haven’t had this, but I don’t want stolen work. We will have a key, a sort of theme you need to include in your work a certain amount of times. The theme for this one will be Trigonometry. Include a simple reference to it 2 times if under 3,000 words, or 3 if over 3,000 words. For each reference you make, please change the font colour so I know.

Also, if anybody would be willing to write an example to help, that would be wonderful. (Assuming you understand the concept) It can be as simple as ‘I pulled my Trig notes out of my backpack.’

A semi hidden one could be, 'There were at least 90 men in the front row of the army. 60 behind them and behind them no more than 30.' -A 30-60-90 triangle, understand?-

7) You will have 1 MONTH TO WORK ON THIS STORY. It must be a complete story with beginning middle and end. Any unfinished stories will be ELIMINATED.
8) No racist or offensive speech ANYWHERE. This will result in immediate elimination. No arguments about that at all.
9) Please, if this goes well, then us judges, will have lots to read. Please make it as easy as you can for us. [If you have original characters or it’s an original fic, PLEASE include character bios. They will not deduct from your word count.]
10) Please, Try to write this fic in the given time Of course, if you don't, I probably won't know ANYWAYS. Nor will the judges. We'd just prefer you did.
11) English Only Please: I know that SOUNDS stupid, but please. Just English entries.


Now now, I know all you guys really care about are the prizes. Trust me, they’re not, extremely great or anything.

1st place – 1 winner, you will have your thread floated for 2 weeks –I’m not 100% on which section yet, probably InuYasha section because it is the most visited.- You’ll also get a free banner and avatar or your choice, -an extra if you’re not happy with the first one- and complete bragging rights.
2nd place – 1 winner, an avatar and banner
3rd place – 3 winners, an avatar

Kira will be making the prizes, but if Kira ends up as a winner, then Buba on the rocks will be making her prize. Thank you to both!

THE JUDGES WILL NOT KNOW WHO YOU ARE WHEN READING YOUR FIC.

Tip: If you only have word pad, or note pad, you can download: http://www.openoffice.org/ and it is basically a free Microsoft Word. A little less fancy, but it counts words and has a spell check and everything.

I can write a story anyways! I obviously can't win, but I'll write a story. I have some in mind anyways.

Will all the entries be posted, for viewing during the contest?

No. You would email them to me so that the judges don't know who you are and thus can't have any biased against you.

But if you do win first place, we'll ask that you do post your story here and we'll float it to the top of the forum for 2 weeks. Afterwards, if you still want to post it, you can anyways.

Edit: But I do have a question... Because every person appreciates different things when it comes to ideas, don't you think it's a little unfair to judge by idea? For example, let's say that the majority of the judges prefer an action fic to a romance. If that's the case, then if someone were to enter a romance fic, it wouldn't have a good chance compared to an action fic that someone else entered, even if the levels of writing were about equal.

Maybe it's just me. I love the idea of a contest, but I like being judged be my skill as a writer and not by what someone THINKS my ideas should be like.

By ideas, I mean is it creative or not? I mean, if you're going to enter a Inuyasha High School fic it's probably not going to win. But if enter something that's original that's more likely to win. But ideas isn't going to be the main category on judging anyways. And each story will be judged by 3 judges AT LEAST so even if 1 judge doesn't like your idea, you'll have 2 other people to read it as well.

Ah, okay. I see now. It's really just a matter of originality, yeah? Thanks for clearing that up. I'm totally on board now. xD

I'm actually pretty disappointed with this contest, only 2 entries were submitted. I'm extending the deadline by a week, but if you don't enter by then, or I don't get any more entries, then I can assure you that I will not be holding another contest for quite a while.
