It depends on what kind of elves we're talkin about. The little pixie-ish ones or the weird hunt-you-down-if-you-hurt-a-tree or the kickass LOTR ones.
So I guess dwarves win.

Ubbie prefer elves to dwarves - dwarves are dour and conservative, which make him rolling eyes. But he prefers the best... humans. (Ubbie is a big fan of D&D and cie)

Modern fantasy, especially 'tolkienesque'-born interpretations, separate them.

D&D = Dungeons and Dragons, classic fantasy roleplaying game, and forefather of them all.
Since Tolkien and that, they are generaly distinct species (elves and dwarves, I means)....
