Title: Voted Today
Description: North Carolina Primary

Patriot1776 - May 6, 2008 06:21 PM (GMT)
Today is primary today in North Carolina, and I voted, but not for either Hillary or Obama, because I'm a registered Republican, so I cast a meaningless vote for McCain today on the Presidential primary ballot.

Instead, today for me was a day of voting on state party matters and state matters in general. This brings to mind something that is important for people who live in countries made up of states or provinces: State/Province politics are, in my honest opinion, more important than national politics. For me this means I have to be worried more about what's going on in Raleigh than what's going on in Washington, DC. What goes on nationally does matter and is important, but state and local matters have a much more direct and immediate effect on you.

For me, the most important votes I cast today were my choice of who I want going against the Democrats in November in the races for North Carolina Governor, North Carolina Lieutenant Governor, and Republican candidates for the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Who's going back to the North Carolina General Assembly after this year is a non-issue, as I personally know and like my current incumbents for the state legislature. One of them, my state senator, is also member of my church, and is also a Democrat.

That brings up something else, mixed-party voting. Being a hardcore partisan and voting straight-ticket all the time is not a good practice I believe. It only encourages the partisan bloodsport and negativity that we've all grown tired of, and it's why I NEVER vote straight ticket.

Just wanted to share these thoughts.
