With You

It's true, the way I feel was promised by your face. The sound of your voice, painted on my memories. Even if you're not with me, I'm with you.

Chapter One: A Second Chance

I don’t remember ever speaking to the woman as she barged into the room. My sight was so foggy because of the medicine that the doctors had put me on. I must have been just waking as her inhumane beauty struck me even a bit.

She smelled so much like the flowers my parents had brought for me--the roses they had bought and given to me. Her blonde hair was curled, streaming behind her as she rushed in at what seemed like cheetah speed. All the while, her eyes were a blank blue, searching for her instinct.

“Do you want to be saved?”

Her voice seemed so distant and angelic; I thought I must have been dead. If I were, I wouldn’t complain; perhaps this was meant to be my fate. Lying in that hospital bed was torture, and dying would be much more easing.

“Well, Jenna Harris? Do you?”

It was a fight to only nod at her, pleading her and beckoning her with my weak, but bright green eyes. I had prayed that she had gotten my message and done anything she could.

For seconds, I saw her stare at me with shock. Did she expect me to say no to my second chance? But then I noticed that she hadn’t been standing there anymore. She was now standing over me, pulling me up to a sitting position.

Things were silent, even as the burning and pressure of someone biting my shoulder sunk in. I refused to scream or cry, or whimper for her to stop. If I were to die, at least it would be by a total stranger, and my parents wouldn’t have to see it.

The woman pulled away as another woman, one I knew, walked in. “Jennifer!” The other woman snarled in an animal like hiss, “I thought we agreed not to bite her!”

“Sorry, Samantha, but she was going to die. I couldn’t let another girl who’s only twelve--”

“I’m thirteen,” I corrected subconsciously.

“Well, thirteen die! Besides, I asked her and she nodded,” Jennifer protested.

The other woman glanced at her, and then at me. She had dangerous black eyes that were barely hidden by her chestnut brown hair. Her glance was questioning my sanity, and she herself was probably wondering if I had to be sent to some asylum for mental issues. I laughed at her mentally while I looked at both girls. Oddly, they were both wearing black dresses as though they were attending someone’s death.

Soon I was aware of my sense heightening and my heart rate dropping. There was a black wave washing away my already limp sight until all I could see was the ocean of a night with no stars or moon, or light. Then, I don’t recall seeing the two for the whole rest of the time; the wave had washed me under and suffocated me.

----

It was hours before I woke up unwillingly. I had hoped to be dead, so I could be at least out of the horrible place. I wasn’t though.

The two women were talking with my parents, warning them not to come in to see me. I ignored the bickering between them and lifted a hand. Pale. No, it was more than pale. It was icy cold when I rubbed it against my bare cheek, and it was dead pale.

Snapping out of my trance, I glanced at the two now approaching women. “S-Samantha…? J-Jennifer…?” I asked as they glanced at me with smiles on their faces. “Were those my parents?”

“Oh, yes, but they won’t be back,” Jennifer laughed. Her eyes changed quickly to a deadly black, and then back to a loving blue.

I had seen Samantha quickly move her arm back into place, leaving me guessing if she had nudged Jennifer, or was going to. I cleared my throat quietly. “Why? What did you tell them?”

“We told them you were dead Jenna,” Samantha stated in a cold voice. I glanced at her eyes, noting that they were now bright red almost as though they were irritated by something. She wore a smile, but the happiness hadn’t sunken into her beautiful voice.

I glared at them both. “Why would you do that?!” I yelled.

Neither replied, and they just leapt at me, pinning me to the bed. Until that moment, I had noticed I was trembling and shuddering violently. I tried to calm down and catch my distant breath, getting an arm free and clutching at my chest.

“It hurts,” I whined.

Samantha eyes leapt to meet my gaze. “That’s normal, Jenna, darling. You’ll be in pain for a few days. You’ll stay here with me and Jennifer, and Ricky,” she whispered.

“R-Ricky?” I repeated, dazed by agony wrapping around me.

The girls holding me began a faint sight, as Samantha’s voice didn’t respond to my call. I was barely able to see her shift her gaze to the glass window that a man was looking through. I couldn’t make out anything except he had snowy pale skin like the girls did.

----

“Samantha, I’m disappointed in you!” A man’s voice slammed, anger defiantly stealing it.

“I wasn’t the one that bit her, Ricky. Blame your mate,” Samantha hissed back in a voice that I had never heard her speak in. The venom astounded me; I never thought she could be so cruel hearted in any manner.

I heard footsteps, as though someone was walking across the room. And then, in the mist of my strong hearing, Jennifer’s voice replied, “Yes, my dear, it was me.”

A snarl broke through the man’s throat, sounding too manly to be a female and to inhumane to belong to a regular person. “The kid’s listening, Samantha Anne Lovelace. Get her out of the room… now…”

Before I could sit up and remove myself from the room, cold arms were carrying me. I guessed they were Samantha’s. I snuggled against her, feeling completely welcome to at this moment of being so blind to who was carrying me. Then it came to me; her last name, Lovelace. She had been my check-up doctor.

“D-Doctor…?” I whispered into her neck. I felt her laugh silently, and her chin gently tap the top of my head as she nodded. I giggled and felt my lips quiver into a smile.

“How did you know? I mean—I thought you would forget that. Being in such a dark room, you must have forgotten something.” Her words were light, and gentle, “…Like I did…”

My eyes flew open. “You forgot something, Samantha?!”

“Yes, but you probably won’t.”

“Why did you?”

“You see, Jenna, when I was changed, I was traumatized. The day before, my brother and I had been out past midnight. We were walking around with one another, and playing soccer, and playing tag. Well,” she paused to take a breath. The wind was rushing past both of us and I felt like I was flying so easily in her cold arms as she was carrying me. She exhaled and shook her head gently, shifting her arms. “He was killed in front of me, Jenna. A man came-a vampire-and shot my dear brother.”

I whimpered in pity and sympathy for her, but she silenced me with a growl. I cleared my throat loudly and looked up at her. “So, what did you do?”

“That’s where things get foggy, my dear Jenna. I don’t remember what I did—if I stayed by his side, or ran in fear for my own life. All I remember is the pain of hearing the shot and watching him fall—and the pain that came after, when I was bitten.” She clutched me tighter. “Cursed to live an empty eternity like this!”

Chapter Two: Hunting

Samantha landed in the streets of the calm, silent night. As she had hopped from the building, people had screamed in fear, but as she perched on the ground, they glance in awe at her. I suppose they thought she was a god. She had let me down, and allowed my legs to touch the ground for the first time in months. It was so peaceful, and yet, painful by the agony in my legs.

“Well, there’s nothing to see here!” She snarled, glaring at a group of people. Her voice had a twist to it—a hunger. I looked up at her, seeing her eyes turn black, but stay blood-colored around the iris. “Get out of here!” She yelled, watching the crowds cower and rush away.

“Erm, Sam, what’s the matter? You’re eyes are--”

She lifted a finger to my lips. “Black. Black as the night we’re bathed in, correct?” I nodded at her. “I’m thirsty, Jenna. You’ll feel it soon, too. Blood is the only thing that shall quench this, dear.” She patted my head silently, fighting a hungry smirk. “I’m sure glad that Jen bit you. I probably would have drained you of blood, darling.”

I smiled a bit at her mothering voice. Dear, darling—those were things my mom would call me. “Sam, what do you do when you’re like that? I mean, do you kill humans?”

“Only if we lose control. I haven’t hunted for a few weeks, so this is horrible for me. I could eat anything right now—human or animal,” she whispered. She hugged me close, protecting me from the world. “Don’t lose control, ever.” I nodded and felt her arms lift me again as she took off to the nearby forest.

----

I sat in a tree and watched her look around carelessly. A bush moved and she leapt at it, soaring like a bird through the air. I laughed a bit mentally, and grinned after her figure.

She latched her teeth down on what I guessed was a deer. They were common here in Maine, and it didn’t surprise that she enjoyed hunting for them. The deer thrashed for a few seconds, and then fell to the ground, motionless. She caught and killed a few more before we decided it was time to leave.

She lifted me quickly, taking off into the air. I felt my body going numb and sleep stealing me. “Enjoy this,” I heard, “it’s the last human moment—the last dream you get.” I nodded slightly and let my sleep take me in its final grip.

Chapter Three: A New Beginning

It had been a month since that time. My new family had planned to start going to Shead High School in Maine, while I went across the street into seventh grade at the Elementary school. I didn’t very much care for the idea of leaving my real family to stay with Samantha Lovelace and Jennifer Berry, but the two women said it would be best.

I looked up as the school came into my view. It wasn’t as big as my last school had been; it looked very small, one floor at the most.

I walked inside and sighed, gripping my side in assure that I was truly awake and my new changes-blood-thirsting, icy cold, pale skin, and fangs-hadn’t been a figment of the reality I should have believed this was.

“Jenna Harris?” A woman called. I stopped and looked up. She towered me by probably five inches. I was about five-four. She had deep black hair and beautiful brown eyes that were full of shock. “Are you feeling alright,” she questioned.

“Oh,” I muttered, looking around to make sure no one else was around. “I’m just nervous, it’s my first day, you know!” I bit my bottom lip at the anger in my voice. I didn’t want to sound mean, especially to a secretary—a nice one.

“Alright, you’re room is just down the hall, to the right, then take a left, and another right. It’s the last room on the left.”

I nodded and rushed off, getting to the class in seconds.

----

I opened the door to the classroom, looking around. The room was cute; bookshelves against the wall, a teacher’s desk, tables for desks, and a rug. I laughed slightly.

“Hi there!” I jumped at a girl’s giggling voice. I turned to look at her, catching glimpse of her red hair and black eyes. “I’m Yue!”

“H-Hi, Yue. I’m Jenna,” I replied in a whisper. Yue grabbed my hand without a word and dragged me over to the table she was at. She was sitting by two boys, one with black hair and the other with green hair. “Who are they?” I asked.

“This is Steven!” The black haired boy nodded at me, grinning. The other boy scoffed and growled at him. “And that’s Derek,” Yue stated, pointing to the boy with green hair. She sat down by him, letting me sit by Steven. “Steven’s a demon, and Derek’s a devil.”

I smiled a bit and looked at Steven. “What about you, Yue?”

“Oh, I’m an angel!” Her black eyes glinted happily. She grabbed my hand and dragged it over to Derek. He grabbed it, smirking devilishly (no pun intended!), and then handed it back to me. Steven glanced at me, taking it and smiling. “You see, Jenna,” Yue began. “You’ll fit in well!”

I nodded slightly, smiling.

----

The day seemed to drag on. Yue continued to pull me around with she, Steven, and Derek. Derek kept glaring at Steven, while he and Yue tried to please me and help me around the school.

At lunch, they forced me to sit by them—Yue giving me no choice what so ever! They lunch the school served didn’t interest me, so I shoved the tray over to Derek. He was happily flirting with Yue, not noticing I was watching.

“So, Jenna, who’s in your family?” Steven asked.

I happily turned around to talk to him. “Samantha Lovelace, Jennifer Berry, Ricky Shepard, and me,” I replied, not daring to ask about his. He nodded, noticing the uncomforting feeling in my voice.

I sighed, letting lunch drag deeper into the time.

----

Finally, the day stopped to an end. Yue insisted that she walked me home, though Derek seemed unwilling to walk to Steven’s home with him. Steven did seem disappointed, but I managed to convince Yue that I would be fine, and I’d be meeting my sister’s and brother. She didn’t seem happy about not being able to meet my family, but she kept the glint burning like she knew them already.

“Well, bye-bye then,” Yue groaned. She looked at the two boys, sighing and dripping to her knees. Derek picked her up with ease, smirking slightly. Yue looked at me. “Oh, I bet Matsuo’s with Jacrose! I think he’s normally hanging out with Matsuo out back if you want to meet the Ryusune!”

“Really, I’ve met enough people today.” I sighed a bit as Steven gripped my cold hand. I glowered, grimacing when I looked at him. As I read his eyes, my expression turned pleading. “No, don’t make me…”

“I’ll go with you, Jenna.”

Snarling, I pulled my hand away and shot to the ground, sitting still. “Never!” I hissed.

----

It was seconds before I realized that I was being pulled closer to a boy with silver hair. I blinked, trying to remember what had just happened. I glanced at Steven—had he… stopped my sight and feeling? Had he numbed me?

“Hi, I’m Matsuo.”

I looked over as the boy held his hand out to me. I forced a smile and took it. “Hey, I’m Jenna—Jenna Harris,” I stated. I sniffed the air, smiling. “You are a dragon!”

“You’re a vampire, aren’t you? Jacrose told me all about them.” Matsuo laughed nervously, smiling slightly. “He’s probably still back there waiting for Steven and I to be done talking.”

“Steven, you didn’t tell Sylt?” I growled.

“He could smell you!” Steven protested, smiling.

I snarled. “Shut up!” Steven huffed and growled, releasing my other hand. I looked over at him, reaching for his hand. “Steve…” I whispered, inches from his hand.

He glared over at me. “What do you want, leech?” His voice had fake anger and he let his hand be gripped by mine. He smirked, rubbing one of my fingers with his thumb. “Do you miss that, Jenna—do you miss the warmth?”

I nodded, glancing over at Matsuo who was grinning. “Well, I’d better get back to Jacrose. See you, Jenna, Steven!” He called, racing off.

Nin, Matsuo is Sylt's name in this fanfic and Sylt is pretty much a nick name this time around, or his "Dragon Name" if you prefer. ^^

Jacrose, I think, is portraying Matsuo's brother or guardian, :hehe: byt that is just a guess.

The school that they are all at is a school, you could say, kinda like, but not really, based on "Xavier's school for gifted children" in the X-men Series.

This is Kay's Fanfic.

This is her ideas.

The school, whether or not it was based on the school mention above, is really irrelevant.

This is an excellant fanfiction that should continue and any one that says differently is entitled to thier opinion because frankly...

:hehe: Special abilities and magic only happen in text and stories anyway. ^^

Jon is right. *didn't know about the whole X-Men thing until now*

Jacrose is portraying his guardian for now. And... I'm done with Chapter Four.

Chapter Four: Party Spolied

After a few minutes of holding Steven’s warm hand, I had to leave with my family. We bid each other goodbye—mine very unwilling—and went off our own ways. Samantha and Ricky were glaring and shouting at one another, exchanging snarls and hisses. Jennifer seemed to be trying to calm them down, like she had been the whole way to the school.

“Ricky, you insignificant pest! You should have let me die happily,” Samantha snarled.

“You’re lucky I decided to save you! Your brother wasn’t even worth helping,” Ricky retorted.

I looked up instantly as Ricky mentioned Samantha’s brother. I saw Samantha flinch and cringe away from him. “Shut up…” I whispered, walking towards the road. I heard Ricky snarl at me, but as I looked back, he was following me along with the two girls.

----

Samantha slammed the door open and looked around. “Jen, did you leave the lights on the morning?” She glanced at Jennifer, getting a quick ‘no’. “Then… who came…?”

There was a flash and a boy was clinging to Samantha, laughing. I watched her begin to laugh as well, hugging him softly. “Nick!” She cried, “how are you, darling?!”

“Well, Yue and I decided to come visit Eastport with our father. I couldn’t wait to see you again, love!” Nick chuckled. The boy had deep black hair and red eyes. He was wearing all blue—a blue t-shirt and faded blue jeans.

“I see…”

Jennifer grinned. “So this is your fiancé, Samantha?” She asked. Samantha sighed slightly and shook her head in sadness. Jennifer frowned; putting a hand on her shoulder and Ricky slumped into the darkness of the room. “Everything will be fine, dearest.”

Yue and my friends from school—Derek, and Steven, and Matsuo—walked out and smiled at me. I grinned, grabbing Steven’s hand and glancing up at Samantha for permission to leave. Subconsciously, she nodded and we all rushed out.

----

Samantha frowned slightly, shaking her head as everyone sat around the small table. She and Jennifer were cooking, with Ricky standing over Jennifer’s shoulder every second—his eyes threatening to pull her away at any sign of distress.

I noticed a man sitting by Matsuo. He had brownish hair and hazel eyes, wearing jeans and a black shirt. Both Yue and Nick had their eyes suspiciously on him, growling slightly. I guessed by how Matsuo and he were sitting, that they were family—at least in the way I was with Samantha.

“What are you staring at, Angel?” He snorted a comment to Yue. My friend’s brother snarled protectively at him, answering for his sister.

The man and Nick clenched their fists, standing and walking in the opposite direction. Each of them pulled one of my friends with them, leaving me to sigh as Derek followed Yue and Steven followed Matsuo.

In an instant, I watched Samantha and Ricky exchange glances of worry for everyone. They were silent, sticking their glance.

----

As moments passed, I found myself being carried off by Nick and Samantha. It took a moment to realize the new warmth around my body—Nick’s warm arms gripping me. I smiled, closing my restless eyes.

“Hey, don’t close those!” Nick snapped in a rushed, frightened voice. His moving body froze and landed on what I guessed was the ground. He shook me harshly. “Wake up!”

“What’s wrong…?” I murmured.

I heard Samantha snarl viciously. “Trent Alai!” I shook my head, not comprehending what she meant by that. Apparently, she had noticed that. “Jenna, sweetheart, he’s an old enemy of Ricky and I. Ricky had chased him away after he (Ricky) changed me.”

I nodded slightly; sighing and feeling Nick set me on my feet. My head almost felt like it was swirling with whatever humanity I had left in my very body. “Where is he?”

“He left, after almost killing everyone…” Samantha’s voice eased my mind.

I looked at her, blinking slightly. “Why don’t I remember?”

“That demon boy, Steven Charles, is able to force your mind to black out without you looking like you were hurt. He’s not an ally, Jenna. Do not get close to him when he can already do that to you.” She growled a bit, continuing on, “The demons, the angels, and the vampires are all enemies. I am only aloud to have Nick--though he's an angel--because we have kept our relationship between my coven members. Even if you told us you liked Steven, we would not allow you to be with him, because of that.”

“I remember you and Ricky… looking over at one another… for so long…” It was strange how every word hurt. I thought only a human would feel this pain.

“Ricky passed me a message—a warning to get you out along with myself and Nick. Trent would kill all three of us without pity.” Samantha’s voice made me freeze in a bit of fear.
