Okay, so... I wrote this FMA fan-fiction a very long while back. After finding it on my computer I realized I still like the idea and I want to complete it.
Quick Summary;
Ed and Al find themselves in another dust-bitten town on their search for the Philospher's Stone. Just when they seem to think this town has nothing to offer but health problems, they hear about a lab on the outskirts of town which are cooking up a stone of their own whose descriptions match that of the Philospher's. Have they finally found what they've been searching endlessly for... or are they just about to get dried out?
Disclaimer; I do not own FMA at all. So shush!
Claimer; I do however own whatever is not related to FMA. HA!--------------------------
Chapter One
Dusty lungs...
The sun dragged on, as the heat began to become unbearable. Not a cloud in the sky, only the horrid sun and his rays.
“I supposed the town was going to show up soon…Guess I was wrong…”
A voice said, that was both dry from dehydration and drenched with disappointment. That was Edward Elric. His blond hair, and matching eyes would catch on to many people, but it was his name that most people knew him for. Sporting a right arm and left leg of auto-mail. He was known to be cocky, and obnoxious. Unlike his brother Alphonse Elric, whose whole body was an armored case. Only because of an accident they had encountered, his soul was to be encased inside of it.
“Don’t give up yet, brother..” Alphonse’s soft comforting voice said, which usually calmed his elder brother down.
These were the Elric brothers. Known only to few by the fact of Edward Elric’s State Alchemist title, which he gained at the age of twelve.
Now fifteen, he was pretty proud of his title, but sometimes became annoyed at the fact that many mistaked Alphonse to be Edward Elric, the State Alchemist and Elder brother.
“Maybe, Al…” Edward answered before his voice was swallowed up by a shriek of noise.
“YOU’LL NEVER CATCH ME!!” A female voice yelled out as Ed and Al came in contact with who it was coming from.
Heading straight for them was a slender female figure, trailing behind her was a head full of dark brown hair that resembled chocolate. The sun reflected her green eyes, and her skin was the same color as the brown-reddish dust that was flying behind her.
She glanced over her shoulder unaware that Ed was coming in contact with her.
“TOLD YA, YOU’LL NEVER CATCH M-OOF!” She yelled as she crashed straight into Ed, knocking him over and falling back on her behind.
“Ow…That smarts…” She said as she rubbed her nose from the impact. “Hey! Whose the wise guy?”
Ed sat up as they became face to face, she stared at him for a moment before quickly rising to her feet.
“What’s the big idea bumping into me like that?” The girl asked as she quickly dusted herself off which didn’t do any good.
“What! You bumped into me!” Ed said his temper setting off, but he quickly controlled it. “What were you running from anyway?”
The girl quickly smiled, her dirt brushed cheeks stretching.
“Oh, I have just stolen today’s lunch from Mr. Boomer…Luckily for me he gets slower and slower every time we bump heads, hehe.” She said as the smile quickly faded.
“But I, seemed to have misplaced it..”
She quickly searched around, and then without hesitation placed her fingers to her lips releasing a loud high pitch whistle.
Ed and Al looked at each momentarily until they heard a small bark heading towards them.
Appearing almost out of nowhere was a small terrier with a brown package in its mouth.
“Nip. There you are…I see you’ve found my package, Good Boy.” The girl said as she patted the small animal, and took the package from it’s mouth. Slob dripped from it, and she quickly tossed it in disgust.
“Well that’s ruined…” She pouted, as the little dog barked happily, as it began to lick the package.
The whole time Edward and Alphonse had remained quiet unsure of what to say next.
“So, um, what brings you two here? I mean, I’ve never seen you all around here…Cause I believe I would recognize a short fellow like yourself walking around with a big walking hunk of metal.” She said chuckling to herself.
“Short?” Edward repeated, as Alphonse noticed the look on his brother’s face. They were in for one of his many sudden temper outburst.
Al quickly grabbed his brother’s shoulder trying to stop him from beating the living daylights of their new found
‘friend’.
“We were just headed for the town Zodix..” Alphonse answered instead, for his absent minded brother.
“Oh, Zodix, you say. That’s where I park, err, Stay. You have to excuse the language I picked up on. I’ve only been hear for about a year now and already the town has had an effect on me.” The girl said as she kneeled down to retrieve the dog and turned her back against them.
“We can head there together if you like, if not you can stay here in the dirt.” She said putting an emphasize on the word dirt, to persuade them to follow.
Edward and Alphonse agreed to follow unaware that this girl had some tricks up her sleeve.
“We never caught your name.” Edward finally said, letting go the fact that she had called him short.
“The name’s Kishianii, But I prefer Kishi. It’s much easier on the tongue you might say.” She said never turning to face them. She hadn’t felt the need to, she knew they were going to follow her either way, so what was the point.
Edward nodded approvingly as he looked up as his brother Alphonse who seemed zoned out on the whole conversation.
The small dog, Nip, which Kishi had been carrying quickly jumped from her arms and ran toward Ed. It barked loudly as it suddenly started to growl.
Ed, with caution, began to back up.
“Seems old Nip here has taken a dislike to you…I’d say you best run.” Kishi said as she began to laugh watching the dog chase after him.
“AL! AL!! STOP THIS DOG!!” Ed yelled loudly, as he zipped back and forth.
“How?” Alphonse asked as he held back the urge to laugh himself.
“JUST DO SOMETHING!”
Letting out a sigh, Alphonse quickly drew a transformation circle as he clapped his hands together slamming them down to the ground. A light flashed and appearing out of nowhere was a little bone.
Seeing the bone the little dog, headed straight for it, as Al began to pat the dog lightly on its head.
“Dumb animal…” Edward mumbled as he fought to catch his breath.
“Hmmm…Alchemy huh?” Kishi said to herself. Knowing a little bit herself she had began to become a little more interested in these two new strangers.
“So you know Alchemy, huh, tin man?” Kishi asked as she whistled for Nip to join her at her side.
“Well, a little. My brother knows more than I do. He’s really good at it. He’s actually a State Alchemist.” Alphonse answered a bit proud to be able to boast about Edward’s reputation.
“State Alchemist?!?” Kishi said as she began to panic. “Exactly who are you two?”
This is where Edward stepped in.
“Edward Elric. And this is my younger brother Alphonse Elric. We are the Elric brothers.” He said, his head becoming a little bit too big for his shoulders.
“
The Elric brothers…” Kishi repeated, and Edward nodded proudly. “Yeah right, and I’m the President. Now really, you two cannot be Edward and Alphonse Elric. The ones the town has heard so much about…”
“But we are.” Edward answered.
“HA! Now I thought I was the con artist…Yeah well, Edward, It looks like you two have had a long trip. You’re probably hungry and tired.”
Both nodded their heads.
“Well Mr. Boomer’s bar is over there. Mrs. Boomer is usually there, and since I expect you two to have little money, she’ll probably fix you a meal free of charge.” She explained. “Unfortunately watch out for Mr. Boomer, damn old coot, He always seems in a bad mood, and he might even kick you out. As you might have already known me and him have bumped heads one times too many, so now I’m not allowed to even breath near his bar.”
Edward thanked Kishi as they headed towards the bar.
“Well she was…pretty interesting.” Alphonse said as he followed after his brother.
------
Once inside, Edward and Alphonse studied the bar. In the far corner was a man, a drink lodged in his hand. To the untrained eye you would think he was dead, but he was actually in a cold sleep.
Posted at many of the standing tables were rowdy looking men either sharing drinks or exchanging insults. Others were competing in card games, the
‘betting it all for nothing’.
Both Edward and Alphonse ignored these patrons as they headed for the counter. Behind the counter was a dinky looking man whom was missing hair. His round figure seemed impossible to fit behind that small area behind there but it look as if he squeezed past there with no problems.
They assumed this was Mr. Boomer.
“What can I get you boys?” He asked his rascally voice giving away the fact that it had a nasty cough behind it.
“We just arrived here and we were hoping to get some food…” Edward said as he let his voice trail off when he caught sight of the kitchen behind the man. It was a mess, a disgusting mess at that. Blood and meat particles splattered everywhere. The woman back there, who was obviously Mrs. Boomer, kept dropping things on the dirty disgusting floor an then picking them up.
Edward spotted a coffee pot, clean and fresh, boiling coffee on the table behind the man also.
“Actually I’ll just take a cup of coffee…” He said as Mr. Boomer nodded grabbing a cup that was actually clean and pouring some coffee into it.
“Humph…And what’ll Mr. Tinfoil have?” The man said as he began to laugh, coughing into the coffee.
“I’m fine, thank-you.” Alphonse answered as he let his gaze drift out onto the rest of the bar.
Mr. Boomer sat the cup of coffee in front of Edward as he turned to do something else.
“That’s just disgusting.” Ed mumbled as he pushed the cup away from himself, and turned on the stool until his back was against the counter.
Edward’s mind began to drift off, for it has been doing for a while since the only thing that has been on his mind was the Philosopher’s Stone.
If only he could get it, he would get his brother’s body back, and hopefully turn themselves back to normal. But it looked like their hopes of finding that were on the verge of zero.
“You boys new?” An older female voice sounded behind them. Both quickly turned until they were face to face with Mrs. Boomer, who was an odd match to her lard husband. She was really slender and tall too, the only thing that gave away her age was her grayed hair, and stressed face. Obviously from dealing with her half-tempered husband all the time.
“Um…yeah. We just arrived here…” Edward said.
“Oh. I was asking because I haven’t seen you two around before.” She said a small smile creeping on her face. “So where you boys from?”
“We can’t really say…” Edward answered again, as he watched the smile disappear from her face. “But I can just tell you we’ve been traveling for a long time, so we are very far away from our hometown.”
The smile reappeared, as she stared at them. She saw the hunger on their faces.
“You sure you two don’t want anything to eat?” She asked them, as Edward quickly nodded his head. She smiled at them one more time before turning back towards the kitchen.
“Hey Al….What are you staring at?” Ed asked after he noticed that Alphonse had been staring at something for the longest time.
Then his eyes connected with what he was looking at. It was a blue print, for something that was either being built or it was a plan for that to happen.
“Hmmm…Looks pretty old, might have been here a while…But I guess with these townspeople here we won’t get any answer for those questions running through our minds.” Edward said as he stood up off of the stool. “And our chances of running into that Kishi girl are none-to-slim, so let’s get out of here and find somewhere to stay.”
They headed for the door without looking back, not even knowing that all eyes have suddenly turned to them.
------
“Back so soon are you?” Kishi’s taunting voice said from behind them once they stepped out of the bar. They turned to see her sitting there with her dog, Nip who saw Edward and started growling.
“Yeah….It looked like we weren’t so hungry after all…” Edward said as he began to rub the back of his neck.
Kishi rose to her feet, as she stared at him.
“Humph, Looks to me like you caught sight of that Boomer kitchen. Yeah, that’s why I don’t take their food…I take ingredients…” She said as she began to laugh, then she stopped as she examined them over.
“Well, That would be rude of me to just leave you here…So I invite you two to my house for a meal and a place to rest.” Kishi said again as she bent down to have the little dog jump into her arms.
------
Kishi finished cooking as she placed a plate in front of both Edward and Alphonse. Not knowing that Alphonse was the type to
‘not eat.’“So, you two say you are the real Elric brothers hum?” She asked as she leaned up against the counter of her kitchen.
“It’s not a lie. We are.” Alphonse said instead of his brother who was nearly shoveling food in his mouth. He pushed the bowl of stew from in front of him, as he stared up at her.
“I’m still not believing you.” She said as she crossed her arms. “I mean how can you two be the Elric brothers? I mean
‘you two’…I would have thought that it would have been two tall strong young men. Not you guys…”
Edward let out a laugh as he put down his spoon.
“You and many others are led to believe that we are not who we say we are only because of ‘tales’.” He said as he laughed again, not seeing the irritated look on Kishi’s face.
“Well look. I don’t care if you are Edward Elric…” She said as she rounded the table quickly lifting Edward up, surprising him with her strength. “No one disrespects me in my own house!”
Thrown out the door, Edward sat there in the dirt.
“Hey!” He quickly yelled as he rose to his feet. “What about Alphonse?”
