On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress approved the final draft of the Declaration of Independence and the American Colonies formally broke all ties to Britain. They did not become the United States of America however at that time, that would not be formalized until after the Constitution was adopted in 1789.
History tells of many reasons why the Colonies broke away, the main ones being unfair taxes levied against them by a faraway power in Britain, and also Britain cutting off most of the colonies trade with the rest of the world.
Today marks the 232nd anniversary of that event. However, unlike today, July 4, 1776 passed with little to fanfare. The weight, and fanfare then, surrounding July 4 would not become evident until the following weeks as news of the adoption of the Declaration spread, due to the slow means by which news traveled at the time.
So, what are you all who live within the States doing today? Me? I'm just going to lay around! xD I got up too late to watch the town parade! :blue20:

I was gonna go to the lake today but didn't. T___T My uncles and aunts and grandparents and cousins were gonna go to the lake but it was already full by 7 am. So we're just gonna party at home. </3 I hope we go out to see fireworks though. =D

I don't want to see the fireworks unless I bring all my friends with me.
The only holidays I really care about are Thanksgiving and Christmas because I am a vain and spoiled child ;D

The fireworks tonight will be somewhat computerized and automated for the first time in my town's history. I'm anxious to see how they look. I'm going to try and go to the cemetary though.

Home chillin for me. I'm hoping my dad will set off fire works. Oh! My cousin Michael is staying. That's always awesome! My friend Kari is coming over and we're going to cook out. This is teh awesomest holiday for me ever this year!

Ah - going to a party on Andrews Air Force base, then just watch the fireworks whenever they start.
