CHAPTER ONE _ 'A blessed mistake'
Amelia looked down at the sleeping infant in her arms. It was not her intention to have a child, and was suprised when she found she was pregnant. This child was a mistake, and a bad thing, she had thought back then. But ,she thought,as she gently rocked the child, she now loved her, now found she no longer thought of the newborn girl as a mistake. She had never expected to love, to care for, a baby. But when she looked at this one's face, she saw something different her eyes then the ordinary child. Joy.Grief.Knowlage. And harmony. And she immediatly knew she would never regret this mistake. She looked up at ????? , beaming radiantly at the new father. What was he feeling right now? Happy, proud? She wondered. But her joyous expression changed when she saw his face. It was far from happy. In fact, she thought she might have glimpse of.... reproach?Regret? Anger? Resentfullness? She started and looked back into his eyes, but whatever had been there,if it had ever been there, was now gone. She sighed. It must have been a trick of the light, or maybe a side effect of having a child when her body was not ready yet. No matter. She leaned her back against the hard hospital pillow and gazed at her treasure,a radiant look of joy making her face look bright with happinness.

CHAPTER TWO 'An expected loss'
Amelia heard mumblings outside of her room. She was used to this, but they were more urgent now, more worried and panicked. She only caught a few sentences, but they were enough to confirm her greatest fear- He was gone. From what she caught from the nurses hushed conversation,he had said Amelia had his greatest apologies, but this was not what he had wanted. He was not ready for the responsibility of taking care of a child,so he was leaving her. As the nurse stumbled in, looking very flustered and confused, Amelia shook her head and told her that she was aware of what had happened, and that she would prefer to be left alone at the moment. As the nurse asked what the babies name would be, Amelia thought of the one thing she would need to keep up and to have over the years. "Hope"She said, eyes brimming with tears of a mixture of misery and the greatest joy."Hope". [should i keep it up]]

CHAPTER THREE 'A child who crawls'
Amelia looked around the park. Finnally she spotted the crawling baby. She could not walk, but could she crawl. Their kitten ,Human, the same age as Hope , was perched on Hopes back. Amelia smiled as the baby crawled to her,and again heard the fameliar whipering sounds of her child trying to speak. Hope ,for a child who could have been permanatly damaged for life because of Amelia's three bad habits, was an unusually expressive child, and she was proggressing amazingly fast.Again she heard whisperings. Hope was at it again. Amelia kneeled down and picked up the kitten and child and made her way back to the shelter for abused woman, unaware that this week would hold unusual surprises.

CHAPTER FOUR
Amelias eyes went wide. He was there in her house;if you could call it that. His eyes were bitter, filled with regret. She stepped back"No"she whispered. "You can't be here. You left. You left me, you left her, you left our pet kitten. You can't be here,you-"
"You must hate me, I know it . I abandoned you in the middle of the happiest day of you're life. The reason I came, the ONLY reason I came, was to say sorry to you.Now that my consiense is satisfied, I am leaving. Goodbye." And Amelia just stood there, cat and child in her arms, eyes full of tears, as yet again he left her. And that was when the child in her arms, the young daughter of her blood, said her first words.
"Daddy go bye bye mommy. That bad bad."

CHAPTER FIVE
"... And then Auntie Karen was meeeean to me again! I don't like the dark! Do you? No, didn't think so! Mommy, that's why.."
A sigh could be heard from the direction of the receptionist's desk, as Meriline Aris, the worker from Children's Aid assigned to the psychological abuse case of the girl now named 'Hope Baker', watched the sunlit girl chatter to the empty space beside her- the empty space where her mother would have sat.
"Another no show, eh, Mrs. Aris?" A lway's cautious to use her freind's last name at work, an agitated, stout woman with short brown hair sat behind the imposing desk, her glasses perched in an way that made her resemble an bird of prey, rather then the owl anyone else wearing her glasses would appear to be. A nod from the red head beside her was the only answer she recieved- but the look on Ms. Callope's best friend's face was answer enough. Silently, the clip board was handed to Meriline, who was watching with almost shocked expression the speed in which Hope's mental state seemed to be deteriorating. Quick to react, she clutched the clipboard with tight hand's, walking in an brisk pace toward's the sacrificed child.
" Hope. Hope! HOPE!" The last yell catching the cheerfully masked girl's attention, Hope peered up at whom she had dubbed 'Mermeri' in her rather battery charged mind. Just as expected, she looked as if she had no idea that she had just been talking to thin air- the poor child probably really thought it was her mother.. Mrs. Aris reflected grimly, while handing a box of crayon's to the girl.
" I'm sorry, Hope, but it seem's like your mother isn't showing up again. Perhap's you would like to doodle while waiting for your foster paren'ts....?"
" It isn't doodling, it's Art!" she prounounced the word as if it began with an capital letter, her very posture suggesting indignation at her work's being labeled as simple... scribbling's. Despite her apparent annoyance at the worker assigned to her, she grabbed the crayon's from Mrs. Aris with an mumbled thank's, and quickly want to work- on the table. Twenty minutes and fifty two broken crayon's later, Hope finnally had settled down with an scrap sheet of paper and began drawing, admidst muttered complaint's about 'lack of respect'.
But then again, who can blame her for her eccentric behaviur... the woman reflected to herself. Four year's with an drug, alchohal, ciggerate, and.... 'encounter' obsessed mother who depend's on you and you alone will do that to you.... she thought grimly.
Hope glanced up, as if guessing her thought's, and her eyes flashed with bitter pain that no child should have, before clearing back into normal happiness.
.. Mommy left me 'cause I was bad... not the other way 'round. Why can't they see that?
