*~Prologue~*

Long ago, when my grandfather and I used to row his small boat through the tangle of salt creeks on the island, back when I was still wild, my grandfather used to tell me that mermaids lived in the waters around the island. He claimed he'd seen them while fishing in the reefs, during the early hours when the blazing sun was merely resting on top of the waters. The mermaids swam to his boat, leaping through the waves. Of coarse, like any six-year old girl, I believed everything he told me. "Did they sit on rocks and combed their hair?" I asked him.
"Yes, mermaids sit around and primp." he answered back. "But their main job is saving humans. That's why they came to my boat, to be there in case I fell over board."
That was ten years ago. My name is Kagome Higarashi. My eyes starring endlessly out toward Gull Island, the beautiful island off the coast of Japan. I see it almost ten miles off the water, a green necklace beaded together by a single thread. I sat at the bow of the ferry, closing my eyes and dreaming of the coldtide rushing over my bare skin. As the ferry aproach the dock, the air hits me, weaved with strange smells.
I sometimes wonder if perhaps the mermaids in my dad's tale would save me...

Chapter One

There was a sand beach on the front of the island called Boneyard beach. hardly anyone swims at the beach since currents were too dangerous for swimming and sand knats swarmed the soft sand. Kagome digged her feet into the sand, digging deep holes until the water erased them from sight. Swells of water krept to her feet, the color of darkly steeped tea.
Little did Kagome known, her brother, Sota, spotted her from the distance. He sprang into a funny jig, lifting his feet and marching in place. "Ka-go-me, Ka-go-me," he chanted, alarming Kagome out of her daze.
"Sota, I didn't notice you were here!" she said with little shock, starring back at Sota.there were halfmoons, like pale, brownish shadows, under Sota's eyes.
"Mom told me to get you, lunch is ready!" he said, running back towards their house. "Better hurry up before Buyo eats your food."
Kagome stood up from where she was sitting, her skirt was soaking wet. "Yeah, well let him eat it, I don't care." she yelled back. Kagome walked along the beach, it was midafternoon, the boiling hot sun was at it's peek. the sunrays danced on Kagome's white blouse as she continued to walk. "For some odd reason I keep on remembering Granpa's mermaid tale." thought Kagome, as if she was being hypnotized.

~Flashback~
"Legend has it is that if you eat the flesh of a mermaid that you get eternal youth, and immortality. Even the ashes of a mermaid will make the most delicate flower thrive throughout the year." stated Kagome's granpa. The six-year old girl looked up at him and blinnked with confusment. "Is that true granpa?"
He nodded. He then handed Kagome a shell. Inside the pinkish shell was a beautiful pearl. "I believe that this pearl belongs to a nobal mermaid or merman. They say that if a mermaid ever loses their pearl, they would never reach their dreams. They will wander the world for eternity searching for their lost pearl."
~End Flashback~

Kagome gently touched the white pearl that was hanging around her neck by only a thread. "I wonder if that mermaid is searching for this pearl right now." muttered Kagome, still walking along the soft beach. Suddenly, she halted from her tracks. From the distance, she saw a strange man laying at the edge of the ocean. She ran towards him, not knowing who it was but she new he needed help. Once she reached to him, she obviously noticed that this "man" was no ordinary human, he was a merman.
The merman had long white hair, the color of a full moon and two fuzzy-like dog ears. His skin was pale, and he was half naked. His fish tale was somewhat an aqua green color, the scales shimmering under the sun's rays. Kagome knelt next to him for a closer look. "Oh my god, is this what I think it is!" thought Kagome, in deep shock. "And I thought granpa was telling a lie. Well nevermind that, this merman--uh thing needs my help!" She picked up the merman and began to carry him on her back. She turned around from her path and headed back to her house.

Chapter Two

Kagome struggled to carry the merman. Her legs wobbling from all of his weight. "This guy is heavy." thought Kagome as she dragged him into her home. She then put him down on the floor and quickly grabbed his long white hair. She looked around the hall to make sure no one was comming. She began to drag him up the stairs, not really knowing that his head kept on hitting the steps everytime.
As she reached the second floor, Kagome continued to drag him into the bathroom. her hands slipped from his hair, she walked over to the bathtub and swiftly turned the water on. She watched the crystal clear water fill up the tub. "I think that's enough water." she muttered to herself as she turned off the water and pushed the merman into the bathtub. "I hope no one noticed him." sighed Kagome nervously.
"Mow." a cat noise was heard nearby Kagome. A fat orange/white cat gently rubbed it's head against Kagome's blouse. It's wide eyes starred up at Kagome and then at the merman. The cat licked it's mouth and began to prowl at the merman.
Kagome smiled and quickly snatched the cat before it sprang at the merman. "Buyo, you can't eat it!" she said. Buyo lowered his head. "Mow." it mewed in a sad tone.
As Kagome played with Buyo's paws, the merman began to waken. His golden/yellowish eyes slowly began to open. He lift up his head and rubbed it gently with his hand. "Where am I? And why is my head hurting?" it mumured.
Kagome jumped from where she was sitting, she dropped Buyo. "IT'S AWAKE!!!" she thought, as if she was shouting in her mind.
The merman starred at her as if she was some kind of freak. "Hey you, where am I and who are you?!" he growled lowly.
Kagome gulped. "Uh, my name is Kagome, and your at my house." she paused for second. "I found you unconsious by the ocean. What's your name?"
The dog-eared merman twitched it's ears. "My name is InuYasha."

Chapter Three

"Get me out of here!" InuYasha screamed, he bagan to splash the water in the tub with his fishtail. Kagome covered his mouth quickly. She held her slender finger over her lips. "Shhh!! Mom and the others would hear you!!"she whispered angrily, releasing her hand away from InuYasha's mouth.
InuYasha blinked. "I'll be quiet if you get me out of here!" he growled, splashing the water again with his fishtail. Kagome nodded and walked towards the bathroom door, she opened it ever so slightly, more like a tiny crack. She gazed through the crack, no one was around. Kagome sighed with relief. She then looked over at Inuyasha. "Okay, I'll take you out of my house, just be very quiet.!"
Kagome dragged InuYasha out of the bathtub. He sat on the cold bathroom tiles. He whipped his tail angrily, as he glared up at Kagome. As Kagome was going to open the door once again, a knock was heard. "Kagome, you didn't eat your lunch. Is there something wrong?" questioned Kagome's mom, who stood right infront of the bathroom door.
Kagome jumped after hearing the knock, without hesitation, she picked up InuYasha quickly and pushed him out the bathroom window. "Hey wha--" InuYasha was suddenly cut off by his fall out the window, he landed right on a wheel barrel and was knocked unconisous. Kagome opened the bathroom door and was starring right at her mother.
"I'm not in the mood to eat. I feel sick.." she moaned, covering up her lie. Her mom gently touched Kagome's forehead. "You seem a little warm. Do you want some medicine?"
Kagome shook her head in a furious way. "No no no, I'll get it myself. Why wont you go back down stairs and feed Buyo." suggested Kagome, as she handed Buyo to her mom.
"Mow?" mewed Buyo, he blinked at Kagome as he was carried off by her mother. Kagome sighed once again. She then realized that she was so busy covering up what she was doing that she forgot that she dropped InuYasha out of the Bathroom window.
She quietly walked down the stairs, trying her best not to make the slightest little sound. She carefully opened the back door and ran towards where she dropped InuYasha. Her brown eyes starred down the once again unconisous InuYasha. She gripped the handles of the wheel barrel and pushed it towards Boneyard Beach.

The sky was iridescent, swirling with the patterns of the wind and the clouds; sometimes it reflected the prisms of rainbow or southern aurora. The sea was ever-changing, shimmering and seamless to the sky. this was the well at the bottom of the world, and when you looked into it you felt you could see to the end of forever.
The sea teemed with fish, but they also seemed to be waiting. They swam in brilliant shoals, like rain of glittering dust, throughout the greenstone depths. The surface of the water was brilliant green, blending into dark blue and then a rich purple. The illuminated sun above one place of the horizon. The surface of the sea shimmered like gold dust.
Kagome tugged InuYasha out of the wheel barrel and dragged him onto the edge of the water. She knelt down besides him and carefully examined him. "I never heard of a merman that had dog ears." thought Kagome as she carefully "tweaked" InuYasha's ears.
After sevral times she "tweaked" his ears. InuYasha slowly opened his eyes. He sat up and looked around. He then glared over at Kagome. "Hey why did you push me out that window!" he shouted, pointed a finger at Kagome.
Kagome gripped her hand, she began to lose her temper. "So it's my fault that I had to push you out a window in order to cover you up?!" she yelled back.
InuYasha began to growl lowly. "Yes and that your the one who brought me to that horrible place."
"I only did that because I found you unconisous!" Kagome replied immediately after InuYasha's statement.
InuYasha continued to glare at Kagome angrily. "Whatever, I'm going back into the sea where I belong." huffed InuYasha as he began to drag his body into the glittering sea. Without thinking, Kagome grabbed InuYasha's arm. "Hey I'm not done with you. Since I saved your life, you have to do me a favor!" InuYasha blinked. "A favor? Since when?"
Kagome grinned, she almost looked like she had just thought up an evil plan. "My grandfather said that if you save a mermaid or merman, they must return you a favor in thanks for their rescue."

Good! I liked it! In Chapter 2 it was funny! Hitting his head on the stairs every time she pulled him up. XD :chidori8D: :narutolol:
