Title: Left In The Rain
Description: A Fan Fic That Leaves You Guessing

Angel Fighter - January 9, 2006 10:50 PM (GMT)
This is a fan fic that leaves you guessing till the end. I was going to delete this from my comp, but it is to good to go. Enjoy.
--------------

It has been years since Maya had last seen her father. She remembered him holding her in his arms as they waved on her mother. She didn’t remember what her mother looked like, or if in fact she was waving at her mother. It could have easily been someone else. But Maya liked to dream it was her. But then she wondered why her mother had left her with her father, who then left her without even waving.

Maya sat in the rain, in a forming mud puddle. When your about the age of nine, no one really cares about what you think or who are. Maya sat in the puddle and wiggled her toes in the mud. She didn’t smile, she frown, she was emotionless. When your nine years old, no one cares. When your nine, no one notices you. When your nine, you start to get older. As a half breed, Maya was even more cut off from the world than she should’ve been.

As she looked into the puddle, a figure came up from behind her. It was her only living relative that she knew. Her uncle who hated her, but looked after her. She sat up and he sneered. She looked at her uncle and he grunted. Without a word he turned away and Maya followed him.

The only thing Maya remembered about her father was that he had long silver hair like hers, and golden eyes. She followed her uncle to their home secluded from the humans and most demons. She stared at the ground and followed her uncle’s footsteps. His feet were so much bigger than hers. When she saw this she remembered how little she was in the real world. She looked back at her uncle and blinked twice.

“Did you eat today?” he asked.

“No.” she answered, her voice shallow and low.

Her uncle didn’t feed her, it was up to Maya to get her own food. Whether it was from humans or from demons, she would get food. When she was younger, before her dog ears were noticeable, humans used to pity her and give her bread, but as her ears grew, so did the people’s awareness of what she was, a half breed.

Angel Fighter - January 9, 2006 11:53 PM (GMT)
Thank you! Here's next update of mine!
-------------------

Getting home was no picnic, Maya had fallen several times. It wasn’t her fault she couldn’t see straight. Going blind was just another thing wrong in her life that she hardly cared about. She often lost track of where her uncle was. He kept walking ahead of her, like he was actually trying to lose her. She wouldn’t let him. If she had fallen, she would watch for his foot prints.

When it came to the seventh time she had fallen, her uncle turned around and grabbed her by the sleeve and started to drag her whether she was standing on her own two feet or not. Her knees dragged into the dirt, scrapping against sharp rocks and her cuts filling with dirt and little tiny shards of broken rocks.

“I can walk by myself.” she muttered.

“No you can’t.” her uncle said angrily.

“Yes I can.” she said, but she dare not try to take her arm away from her uncle. He only had one arm, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t be able to hit her with the other.

Maya drifted into her memories again. She was walking with daddy, after waving to mommy or someone like her, and daddy lifted her onto his shoulders. She sat with her head held high and she was smiling. She hadn’t smiled in a long time. She remembered asking her daddy if they were going to play today. He responded with a no. They were leaving town and never coming back.

Knocking her back into the real world, her uncle threw her ahead of him. They were at a river bank and the water was dirty from mud and other stuff Maya didn’t recognize. Maya didn’t have to ask what they were doing there. She got in the water and sat in the water. It at least cleaner than the mud puddle she was playing in.

Her uncle turned the other way, assuming she knew how to get back home. But Maya didn’t. She was nine, not old enough to remember where there home was when it was neatly hidden in the forest. She wasn’t old enough to tell what markings on the trees showed her the way, she couldn’t see them eve if she wanted to, anything that was five feet away from she couldn’t see. She pushed her hands into the water and grabbed a load full of mud and threw it at the water. Counting the ripples, Maya sighed and laid in the water. She tried floating on her back, but it didn’t work. She couldn’t keep her head above the water.

When she got out of the water, she saw there were people passing by, a family maybe. An older man with a younger woman with three children each one of them girls. The eldest of the girls whispered to her mother and pointed to Maya. The mother slapped the eldest girls hand ad waved her finger at her. The younger two girls looked alike, but one was taller, they only snickered at Maya as the laughed about her dog ears.

Maya laid back down in the water. She wished she had a mother to tell secrets to and laugh with. But Maya didn’t have that. She had an uncle who could give two shits about her and a crummy place to live. She closed her eyes and tilted her head back. She swallowed some of the water that taste like sour salt water from the sea.

A memory crept in on her again. One she had forgotten a long time ago. At the sea, she was a baby, she being held on her mothers hip. She remembered the smell of her mother’s hair mixed with the ocean’s. It smelt wonderful… like the smell of freshly picked flowers… like your favorite meal being served to you… like the smell of the one person you care about clothes.

Maya opened her eyes. It was getting dark, not that she cared, but if she was late again… she’d be forced to sleep outside again like she had been for the past fortnight.

This is very good! I can tell the uncle is Sesshomaru, but I don't believe InuYasha & Kagome are the parents. There's no way InuYasha would leave Kagome alone.

This is really good. You should definitely update.

Maya arose from the water and yawned. She looked back at the family who were watching her. She thought about passing them a friendly smile, but remembered being scolded for being nice to humans from her uncle. She got out of the water and squeezed her shirt to get the water out. The entire time she watched the family. It looked like they were waiting for her to leave the area before pressing on along the path.

In her mind, Maya thought that humans weren’t as bad as her uncle described them. Sure they didn’t have powers that demons had, but they were pretty smart creatures. They knew how to write, draw, plan their days out, math, science, and invent. Demons just laid about waiting for the next meal to come strolling by. Maya always thought she was special. With the intelligence of a human and the powers of a demon, she always thought she could accomplish anything in the world. But her uncle and the rest of the people out there taught her otherwise.

When her clothes were dried enough to walk around in, Maya left the dirty pond, although now her clothes smelled funky and like dead fish. She walked along a path that was lit up by lanterns that humans had placed for themselves. She liked the lanterns, watching the moths dance around the flickering flames within. She remembered once when she staid out all night just watching moths catching aflame by the fires within.

When she got half way up the mountain, she could see out of the corner of her eye, that the family that had been by the dirty pond were behind her. Not like they were heading in the same direction behind her, but like following behind her to see where she was going. She didn’t want to lure them to her uncles home. He would be very upset with Maya that human knew about his living quarters.

Maya stopped and went to turn to face the family. She went open her mouth to say something, but as she did, the youngest child ran up to her and pushed her into the ground. Leaping on top of her she began to beat her face in with her fists. The girl was small, but she had a pretty good punch. Maya was going to push the girl off, but then her older sister, the middle child came forward and began kicking Maya in her sides. As they both began beating her, Maya could hear her parents and the eldest child yelling names at Maya like: “Filthy half-breed!”, “Disgusting little creep!”, “Vile scum!”, and “Unwanted child of the devil!”

It felt like hours before the children stopped hitting her. When they stopped, Maya felt cold blood all over her face, her ribs hurt when she breathed. Her face felt like a punching bag, and her arms felt like someone had crushed them between a door and it’s frame. She was able to sit up luckily. When she got up she looked around to see if there would be anyone to help her. She didn’t see anyone.

When she got up, she knew she had no broken ribs, they just ached. She did however have a broken nose, the bleeding wouldn’t stop, so she covered half of her face with her sleeve. She looked around again, the family had left her alone, they were walking in the opposite direction towards the pond. When Maya turned the other way, a little ways up the hill, she could her uncle standing there looking down on her. She felt kind of happy that he was there. When she went to go to him he walked away from her shaking his head. Maya realized he had seen her getting beaten. He stood in the background not even lifting a finger to help her.

Very good, this is got a lot of tragic-type stuff in it.

Angel Fighter - January 11, 2006 08:54 PM (GMT)
Yes, I was trying to make this tear-jerking. Not like a chick-fan-fic, but one guys would find sad to.
----------------------------

Following after her uncle, Maya kept her mouth shut. Afraid if she said anything she’d get scolded about not trying to defend herself. Maya felt stupid not thinking of defending herself, she just felt like nothing as she was getting beaten. She kept a non-emotional face and continued after her uncle. The night was indeed coming down on them. She could already see the stars shining above her head.

She remembered counting the endless stars with her mom. Her mom pointed out many of the shapes the stars formed. She could never remember the names though. She and her mom pointed out the shapes they made themselves, the ones they made weren’t as distinctive looking as the ones that were real, but she loved them. One of the star formations above her she saw was the one her mother loved, in the shape of a heart. Maya liked that one to, but her favorite was her fathers star formation, the one shaped like his face, bearing his dog ears and everything.

Not losing track of her uncle, she kept walking. She didn’t hate her uncle for not helping her, she knew she should’ve tried to fight for herself but she felt to weak to. Her uncle was harsh and quiet, not caring and not charming, and he was also mean, but he had taken Maya in when her mother was no where to be found. And Maya was grateful for that. She looked back at her mothers star formation and wondered where she was. Perhaps sitting on those lines of stars watching down on her? The face was for sure her father watching over her.

Maya watched her uncle and thought what his childhood must’ve been like. She never asked him, she hardly ever asked him anything except stuff like: “What time she I be home tonight?”, “Are you coming back?”, and “Why am I hated?”. And the answers she got from those questions were: “I don’t care.”, “Maybe.”, and “Because you’re a dirty half breed.” She didn’t get offended from her uncle calling her a half breed; it was her nickname to him. If anyone else called her a half breed, she got sad but bore no expression of it to them.

“You need to fight.” her uncle said sternly.

“I know.” Maya answered.

“I’ll teach you tomorrow.” her uncle said.

Maya didn’t answer back. Not that she was shocked, but she knew she’d be spending more time with her uncle and that made her happy. She made a very small smile in his direction.

It had been a little while before they got to their home that looked like it had been slopped together from square rocks and dried mud. It was home at least. When they got inside Maya went straight to bed. She got in her room and closed the door and crawled on the bed. She wasn’t tired at all, but she didn’t want to get into trouble, she was a good girl.

Slowly night became something like a black sheet over the sky. Maya didn’t tell her uncle this, but she was afraid of the dark, very afraid. She didn’t have covers to hide under, she did have a pillow though, and so she buried her face in the that, lying on her stomach. It was darker, but that only meant she had her eyes closed, and with that she couldn’t see the dangers outside.

When your nine, you listen to you parents/legal guardians; when your nine you brush your teeth before bed; when your nine, you have to eat everything on your plate; when your nine, you wet the bed; when your nine, you start training with your uncle on how to survive in the morning.

Very good sentence there at the very end. Unfortunately, I'm now starting to get the sickening feeling that Maya is indeed InuYasha and Kagome's daughter. What happened to InuYasha and Kagome? Did Sesshomaru kill them, or hopefully not something as bad as that?

Angel Fighter - January 11, 2006 10:14 PM (GMT)
Thanks Patriot, always nice to get a reply from you. :mint40:
--------------------

When morning came, Maya was awoken by the sound of arguing people outside. She was surprised to hear that they were humans voices. She got out of bed and looked through the window. She could see her uncle standing in among the crowd of humans.

“Bring that half demon out here!” one female villager shouted.

“She killed our poultry and cattle last night!” another shouted.

Here we go again… Maya thought. The town’s people thought she had killed their livestock and cows again. It was actually a group of demons living in the forest outside of the village doing the plundering.

Maya walked away from the window and into the living room where there was no couch, no tables, no family photo’s on the walls, and no mom and dad. She was still a little sleepy, but her uncle would yell at her if she slept in. She sat on the floor as the screams outside turned from angry outraged villagers to panicking people about to be slaughtered. She heard the sword of a sword slicing through flesh, and the screams of women running away.

Maya drowned these things out. And to think this is what she was to be learning today. How to kill a human. Few minutes passed and her uncle entered the room, his sword dripping with blood. He looked to Maya and grimaced like he had a bad taste in his mouth. He walked up to her and grabbed her arm and lead her of the house.

Outside lay humans slaughtered, most with their eyes rolled into the backs of their heads, others stained with blood. It was a little while before she saw that some were still alive, mostly children. A closer look, it showed that three of them were the sisters that had attacked her. She didn’t really show any sign of emotion when she saw them. Although they had beat her, she didn’t want to kill them. The eldest sister held her siblings close to her protecting them.

Maya sighed and turned to her uncle.

“You kill them.” she said.

Her uncle pulled his hand back and slapped her across the face so hard, that she fell the ground with a large thud. Her nose smashed into the dirt and began to bleed again, she remembered the pain she was feeling in her ribs as it began to sting like someone was striking her in the side with a cold blade.

“Your training starts now, kill them.” her uncle demanded.

“I don’t want to.” she said.

Her uncle raised his foot and kicked her in the ribs as hard as he could. She flew about five away from his foot. She lay in front of the siblings holding her ribs. She was hurting but she didn’t cry like any normal nine year old.

“Kill them half breed.” her uncle walked over towards her.

Maya stood upright, she ignored the pain in her side, no matter how fierce they hurt. She turned to her uncle and sighed.

When your nine, you act grown up when your not; when your nine, you cry easily over spilled milk; when your nine, you whine about everything; when your nine, you ask odd questions; when your nine, you tend to break things valuable; when your nine, you have to kill those who your uncle says you have to.

This story is intense! Are you sure it's okay for you to be posting this? How old are you?

Angel Fighter - January 11, 2006 10:29 PM (GMT)
This isn't an update, but to let you know I am 15. And I think it's alright for me to post this stuff... I hope I don't get in trouble... :pinkusagi08:

(Update in progress! :bear09: )

Patriot1776 - January 11, 2006 11:56 PM (GMT)
I actually now think you're a better writer than me in one respect. You know how to really write stuff that tears at the reader's heart, while my strong points are detail, action, and somewhat comedy as well.

Angel Fighter - January 12, 2006 02:41 AM (GMT)
Aww.... your just saying that Patriot.
-----------------------

Maya never did kill those kids. She was hit again by her uncle and was forced to sleep outside. It’s been about a week now. Maya cold tell she developed a cold. Her nose was runny, although broken it didn’t stop the snot from pouring out. Her cheeks were red, and her throat was so soar she could hardly swallow any food she took in. Or either that it was from her uncle choking her.

Maya thought about her parents on the fourth night, she bet her mom and dad never would’ve choked her or forced to kill anyone. She imagined her parents were good people. She knew her dad to be a good man with a heart of gold that did anything for her. She remembered crying really late at night because she wanted salmon, and sure enough minutes later her father returned with two salmon for them to share.

She hardly remembered anything about her mother. She was very pretty though. She looked like her mother but had her father’s traits such as his hair and eyes. She envied that, they made her look distinguished. But often times she’d like to have her mother’s black hair and dark brown eyes just to fir in in a crowd.

Maya lay in the pond again… the water was just as dirty as before. She had staid in so long that her fingers began to prune. Glancing at her fingers she began to bend them and flew them out. She never learned how to count. Her mother was teaching her before she left. She could recite her ABC’s in a heartbeat, but the least she could count was up to nine. For each year that had passed, she could count a new number.

As she lay in the pond, she felt something swim past her leg. When she sat upright to look at it, she saw that it was a large fish like demon. When she made eye contact with the demon it flailed it’s tail and swam off. Maya watched the little fish swim nearest the deep end of the pond. She never went over there. It was to deep and she couldn’t swim.

Maya laid her head back down on the water, the sand getting into her hair along with finger nail sized shells. She closed her eyes and plugged her nose. She didn’t want water to get in there. She laid her head back farther and peddled backwards with her legs and her free hand. What a better time to learn how to swim? She was doing pretty good so far until she got towards the area where it sump in like a cliff side. Her entire body went under. Struggling to get to the air, she kicked her legs upward. It only worked for so long until she got tired.

As she began to take in water in mistake for oxygen, she could feel herself choking on the liquids in her lungs. Before she could reach the top, a hand reached out and grabbed her. She felt relived and tired at the same time. When she looked at her rescuer she sighed. It was her uncle. Sadly when she looked down, she saw that water barely came to his knees, she felt so small and insignificant. Her red kimono was soaked and she looked like an idiot. People standing by were watching and snickering at her. How stupid she felt as her uncle pulled her from the water.

“Thanks Sesshomaru.” she said.

She knew better than to call him uncle. He hated it, he said it made him sound old and that he hated being recognized as her uncle.

Never thought the uncle would be Sesshomaru did you? <-- (Being Funny Here)

His knees? How short is she?

his story is really good but sad. I don't get what happened to her parents. Are they dead?

Angel Fighter - January 12, 2006 03:56 AM (GMT)
Well, she's not short, this should explain things, but if not here you go: She thinks she's drowning, you know when your scarred of drowning you think you are? Well that's what she was going through. She was actually only about 2-3 feet in the water.
-------------------

Maya staid awake that night outside the house. She still wasn’t allowed in. She watched through the window as her uncle sitting in their dining area eating what looked like wild boar meat. Maya starred in at her uncle and sighed with admiration. She was starving, having not have eaten in five days would nearly starve like a normal child her age. But she was sometimes used to going this long without food.

She turned the other way, she didn’t want to watch her uncle eat. She laid her back against the wall and closed her eyes. Next time when she tried swimming, she would watch where she was going. She wasn’t even anywhere near the deep end, she was just frantic about drowning that she actually thought she was. She wished she could be taught by her parents on how to swim. Knowing her uncle he’d just throw her back in and wait to see if she turned blue then think about going in until she turned purple.

Maya didn’t mean to make her uncle sound so terrible, he was just hard on her because he cared. That’s what Maya thought anyway. If she were someone else, you’d think he was just an abusive guardian. But he wasn’t, his silence was better than his shouts, and his stares were better than his angry/disappointed frowns. She liked her uncle, she couldn’t hate him for anything.

The next morning Maya woke late, her uncle decided to let her back in the house. She was very grateful. When she came inside, her uncle looked down on her and said two words:

“Training tomorrow.” he said and walked out of the house.

“Where are you going?” she asked.

“Out.” he said and was gone.

Her uncle usually left the house for a few days, sometimes weeks. But he always came back, Maya could rely on that. But she did wonder where he did go sometimes. He would sometimes come back with nothing, or sometimes he’d bring a new blanket for Maya or for himself, or once in a great while food.

When your nine, little things get complicated; when your nine, people see you as a stain in society; when your nine, you can’t do anything important; when your nine, you can’t change the world; when your nine, you sleep a lot; when your nine, you sing out loud in the shower without caring if anyone is listening; when your nine, you continued your training tomorrow.

At least she's got somebody caring for her, even if it is Sesshomaru. He's a whole lot better than having nobody caring for her. InuYasha didn't have anybody caring for him after his mother died.

Again, keep taking your time with the updates, and don't post anything in a rash manner.

All though it was quiet enough to hear a pin fall, Maya, who was wading in the water by the small bridge over the pond, still couldn’t hear the footsteps approaching her. She splashed the water and kicked her legs. She was slightly upset that the water was only knee deep, but was happy that she couldn’t drown again.

Slowly, as the footsteps grew slightly louder, Maya became more aware of the presence of another around her. She felt chills go down her spine, how she wished that Sesshomaru was here right now rather by herself. He was strong and he could protect her, even is he hated her he would do it, it was something he did.

The footsteps became more clearly heard as twigs were broken beneath the stalker’s feet. Maya tightened her hands into fists in her lap. She felt so scared and nauseous, she was so little and whatever it was out there seemed way more larger than she was.

Slowly, a shadow formed in the trees. She felt the atmosphere change, the air tasted like moist fog and smelled foul like fish and rain. From within the shadows a dangerous mist formed spewing from the shrubbery and merging with the breathable air around Maya. The mist’s smell began to bring tears to the corner’s of her eyes, she clutched her hand over her mouth and chocked on what air she breathed through her nose.

“What a foul smell…” she thought.

When the figure among the shrouds became visible the girl stared with astonishment, what was it about this man that made her stomach churn? She didn’t remember him, but he was recognizable. Maybe she had seen him before but this man perhaps was someone she didn’t want to recall.

“Girl,” said the man with evil in his voice. “Are you alone?”

The mist began to grow thicker and Maya grew even more tired of the smell filling her nostrils. As the fog grew even stronger in smell and thickness. Maya didn’t want to admit she was alone. Sesshomaru had left not to long ago which now seemed like forever.

She kept a firm stare at the man who she had now realized was wearing a white baboon coat covering every inch of his body and the head over his face, the only part of his face that she could see through the fog was his lower jaw. Through the eye sockets, she could barely make out small red eyes.

“Are you?” he repeated.

She had nothing to say to this man. By and by, when several more seconds passed between the silence, she wondered if he was even a man, but a demon instead.

“Can you talk?” he seemed to chuckle at this. “Ha ha, no matter if you speak or not.”

“What did he want?” she thought to herself.

“You are a half demon are you not?” he asked.

Maya didn’t respond. She just wanted him to leave. What she wouldn’t give to get rid of this man now.

“I am to.” said the man.

Maya opened her eyes. She looked at the man without the firm stare, but now one of surprise. She didn’t know anyone else who was a half demon like her. She wanted to know this man now, even if he seemed evil. She wanted to know him.

“What’s your name.” he asked.

“Maya.” Maya answered, she hardly noticed how quickly she answered him.

“Maya what a pretty name. How old are you Maya?”

“Nine and three quarter’s.” she answered. “What’s your name? How old are you?” Maya was going to burst with questions.

“I am no one.” he said. “A has-been actually.”

Maya didn’t understand the concept of has-been. She wanted his name though.

“It’s impolite to not tell a lady your name.” Maya said.

“Oh really?” he laughed. “OK, my name is Baranku.”

“How old are you?” Maya asked.

“Thirteen.” he answered.

“You can’t be thirteen. Your to tall to be thirteen.”

“Hmm? Oh.” he said and like if it were something ordinary like walking, he then shrunk. Not to where he was microscopic, but he shrunk by at least three feet.

“You can change height?” she asked.

“No, I’m a shape shifter.”

Maya hadn’t expected him to be something so extraordinary, and yet he said it like it was nothing special. “How do you do that?” she asked.

“Ha ha, it’s nothing you can learn. It’s a family trait.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah, like those ears. I’m sure those are from one of your parents?”

“I don’t know. Maybe, my dad had ears like these I think.” Maya said thinking of her father and tugging on one of her ears.

“Where are they?” Baranku asked.

“Dead, I think. I don’t know about my mom, but my dad died doing something.”

“Something?” Baranku asked walking closer to Maya. He stopped nearly an inch away and crouched down to her level in the water.

“Your coat will get wet if you stay in the water.” Maya pointed out.

“It’s alright.”

“Take off your hood.” she said sternly.

“Tell me about your dad first.”

“No, you take your hood off and then I’ll tell you.”

“Oh-ho, touché.” Baranku lowered his hood to reveal a face of a young boy and eyes a darker red than Maya’s kimono. Almost the second he removed his hood, the mist surrounding the two had evaporated into thin air. Although he looked young, Baranku had an older handsome man’s voice. “Now, about your father?”

“I think he was half demon, and my mother might have been a human. My uncle always says that I look like my dad, my uncle is my dad’s brother. I don’t know anyone from my mom’s side. In fact I don’t even know who my mom is, I’m not even sure that was her I remember.”

“You don’t remember them?” Baranku asked.

“Sometimes, most of the time, when I try to think back, some new memory comes along. Sometimes I think they might be real, or something I made up to make up for them not being here with me.”

“I could see that. My father never spent time with me. Not really my father either, and I didn’t have a mother.”

“Oh, than how can you exist?” Maya asked.

“I have to go, maybe we’ll have more time tomorrow Maya.” Baranku said unexpectedly, throwing his hood over his face and walking faster than he did before away from Maya.

“Where are you going Baranku! Come back!” she called out.

Almost instantly, with a look of hatred in his eyes, her uncle came forward from no where and smacked Maya across the face with the back of his hand. Falling backwards into the water, the dirt and mud rustled in the water covering her red clothes turning them nearly black in all the muck. She got up and wiped the mud from her eyes.

“Why were you talking to him!” Sesshomaru reprimanded.

“He was talking to me.” Maya said.

Sesshomaru smacked her again. But Maya was prepared for it, she only staggered slightly backwards. Her face nearly felt numb, but it soon went away when something very unexpected happened. Suddenly a great warmth held her. When Maya had realized what was going on around her, her uncle was kneeling down in the muddy water holding onto her tightly. Maya wasn’t familiar with this, but she knew what he was doing was hugging her.

“What are you doing?” she asked. She didn’t hug him back, her arms were at her sides and she only looked at her uncle with a confused stare. His long silver hair brushed into her face as his grip tightened. “Sesshomaru?” she asked.

“I care about you, don’t forget it.” he said.

At that Sesshomaru pushed her away and stalked off. Maya lay in the water confused, muddy, and wishing that he hadn’t pushed her away. It had been one of those once in a life time moments, and all she could do was ask stupid questions. In her heart this was what she really wanted from Sesshomaru.

When your nine, your eyes are bigger than your stomach; when your nine, you think you can get away with anything; when your nine, you start to think about boys; when your nine, you lie about little things; when your nine, you learn to talk back; when your nine, you get curious with scissors and your hair; when your nine, you get unexpected hugs from unexpected people.

I was thinking for a second 'WHAT? How can Naraku still be alive?!' Now I'm thinking he must have taken out an insurance policy and had some kind of real son to carry on his will in case he really did die. Sesshomaru needs to be smacked around for treating Maya the way he does if he really does care for her, maybe a brutal beating in a dream delivered by HIS dad.

mukuro5 - January 27, 2006 11:18 PM (GMT)
I was thinking the same thing. I was like "OH NO!! NARAKU IS BACK!" Now I'm like there is another incarnation.

I think it was sweet that Sesshomaru hugged Maya. He really does care. He just wants to make sure she doesn't get hurt and to make sure that she could defend herself. Now I see why Sesshomaru has acted the way he has been.

Thanks for being patient! Here's an update for my loyal fans!!

----------------------

It’s been about six years since that incident with Sesshomaru. He hasn’t hugged me once since then. I’m now 15, and I’m experiencing things that I hadn’t felt when I was younger. A little after I turned eleven, I started something called a menstrual period. I won’t go into details of it, but now once every month I get moody. My chest has… well… gotten ‘bigger’. I also have breasts like the teenage girls in the village. So at least I’m not to different from them I guess. I got them when I turned eleven as well, about a few months after my first menstrual cycle. And I’m sure your thinking, what ever happened to Baranku? He and I have been meeting secretly at a hidden area in the woods near my home. We’ve gotten pretty close, and he no longer excludes a miasma fog from his body. Oh, and my red kimono? I don’t wear it anymore. I now wear a deep gray kimono that’s a great deal darker than my hair. I think it suits me better than my old red one. Anyway, on to the remnants of my life…

Maya, now the age of fifteen, stood much taller in the water of the dirty pond. She was able to stand in the deep end, which now seemed only like it was a few inches as the water only rose to her knees. Her hair was longer and tied back in a ponytail at the base of her neck. Her ears were much larger and now embellished on her cheeks was one red line stretched from the bone of her cheek to her ears. When she had first gotten them Sesshomaru seemed even a little proud. He had once spoken to her about her grandfather whom had the same thing as she and her uncle. Somehow this made her smile.

The sand between her toes and the wind blowing rather harshly, showing that fall was drawing ever closer, Maya smiled for the first time in her life at the thought of herself being accepted by Sesshomaru. Just as she was getting to the peak of happiness, a breath strolled down the back of her neck. She turned to see it was Baranku. She loosened her smile to a mild one.

“Maya, you seem delighted.” Baranku said, he no longer kept his hood over his head anymore. He always wore it down.

Maya was always happy to be with Baranku, no matter how much her gut told her he was a bad person. He was a half demon just like her and that’s all that mattered. Baranku was older too of course, since six years had passed, Baranku had then reached the age nineteen. He still looked the same as when they were kids. Baranku was after all a shape shifter. He probably didn’t like to show what he really looked like.

“I am a little happy today.” She said. Her voice had grown to change to sound like a woman’s, but as her uncle noted, she sounded a little cocky like someone in the family that he refused to mention the name of.

“But yet, your uncle is…?”

“He is still ill.” Maya answered.

It was true. Her uncle, Sesshomaru, was getting ill. He had complained of chest pains and terrible migraines. He hardly ate, and when he did, he would get sick or just complain of stomach pains. He even slept more often than he regularly did, and often times, Maya could never wake him up.

“Do you know what his ailment is?” Baranku asked. He was always asking about Sesshomaru.

“No. It is either a certain cancer or a just old age. I cannot tell which.” Maya said quietly, she did not wish for Baranku to know of her sadness. If he did know, she would feel weak, and that was something she had been taught that wasn’t tolerable around Sesshomaru.

“It could be stomach cancer if he cannot eat. But the constant headaches are something different. It could be possible he’s developed epilepsy.”

“That’s not funny.”

“I’m not laughing.”

“Don’t say that unless your sure. Humans and demons alike die from the seizures that can occur.” Maya’s voice sounded dark and hateful, something she was sure that she picked up from Sesshomaru.

“We can’t rule it out as a possibility.” Baranku said.

Maya felt annoyed, his voice was less tense than hers showing that he hardly cared fro her uncles condition what so ever.

“Why do you come to see me Baranku? For me or my uncle? I cannot tell what you want anymore. Your voice is rash from who knows what and yet you sound like you couldn’t give a care in the word about my uncle. You speak of his ailments like as if your trying to create a conversation starter.”

“I didn’t mean anything offensive if I do not sound like I care for your uncles problems. It is just how I speak.”

“Then I wish you would talk with more emotion in your voice.”

“Would you prefer it if I shouted? When I yell, I sound like a completely different person.”

“I told you to stop being funny.”

“I’m not.”

“Yes, you are. You sound the same in all manner of speaking, but yet you harness the ability to let anyone know that your being sarcastic and funny. Here you are being both.”

“I apologize. Perhaps I should leave for the day?”

Maya wanted him to stay, but as she was about to turn to him and ask for his forgiveness of sounding rude, he disappeared in his miasma like he had always done before. Maya felt disappointed. She liked having Baranku around, and she felt like it was her fault for sending him away. He had mentioned several times that it was hard for him to come and see her. What that could’ve meant she hadn’t the faintest idea, but was glad he did so.

When your fifteen, you like to stay out later; when your fifteen, your well past the age of noticing boys; when your fifteen, you like to think abut your future; when your fifteen, you tend to take everything more seriously; when your fifteen, you notice the problems that people deal with.

What has Sesshomaru come down with? He's still young for a youkai. Something's seriously wrong with him if he's having stuff like that happening to him. Banraku's actions, the way he talks are stirring my mind too. Nice chapter.

It is good. I quite enjoy it.
(Now to go to my normal self)
NO!! WHAT'S WRONG WITH SESSHOMARU!! DON'T LET HIM DIE!!! :pinkusagi08:

Angel Fighter - February 8, 2006 01:30 AM (GMT)
Oh I'm glad to see your so worried about Sesshomaru's health! :mint40: My sister too got mad that I made Sesshomaru come down with something, even I am a little upset with myself, since Sesshy is my ultimate fav Inu character. Anyway, on the update! A slight warning, this one may be a little long, but it's worth it when you read the end.
------------------------------

As Maya turned to return home, coming down the hill was her uncle. He didn’t look like he had seen Baranku with her, nor did he appear well ether. Although he stood strong and tall, he couldn’t hide the pain he was harboring inside from taking that long walk to find her. She felt guilty that she made him get out of the house.

“You shouldn’t be out Sesshomaru.” she said walking from the water towards him.

“Do not treat me like an old man half breed. Come. I have something for you.”

“Something for me?” she thought. Perhaps a beating or a quick slap. She hadn’t known, but Sesshomaru had never said this before hitting her, he would give her a certain look, than strike her or he would just do it without warning.

She followed her uncle. They weren’t heading in the same direction as their home. More towards the back roads that into the woods. She couldn’t exactly think of a reason he was going to take her from the home, but maybe it was about the time she was getting to old for her to stay with him any longer and he was going to leave her stranded?

She hated to think of such a thing. But he had mentioned it to her, that when she is old enough o fend for herself, she will have to leave and live on her own. Most girls her age were to be married in a year from their birthday and sent to live with their husbands. But what human man wanted her? Let alone she knew there would be no demons that would have her. It was possible that he was having her married to another, but then it was possible, he was just getting rid of her. She didn’t like that thought either. As she pondered these thoughts, she had noted that the direction they were taking was different from anywhere she had seen. She had always been told not to wander to far from their home, and Sesshomaru specifically mentioned that this area not be toured around in.

Then, an amazing idea floated into Maya’s head. What if Sesshomaru was taking her to see her mother and father? Her heart raced at the idea. To see her parents would be astounding! To even see their graves if they were dece3ased would be good enough for her! Had her uncle waited until she was old enough and matured to let her view them? She was over whelmed. She held her hands to her chest and smiled to herself. She could wait to meet them! Everyday she would visit them or their graves and leaves flowers and gifts. Had they left her with her uncle for some reason whether they liked her or not didn’t matter. She wanted to meet them not matter what.

When it had well past an hour of walking, the road lead to a rocky area that was old and looked well abandoned by anything that may have lived there. Volcanic structures stood around the area, and Maya soon began to believe that this may not be where her parents were. Disappointment grew heavy in her heart.

“We’re here.” her uncle stated.

“Where is here?” Maya asked.

“Don’t ask stupid questions half breed.”

“Yes Sesshomaru.” she bowed her head lightly.

Ahead of them, Maya could see a carcass made completely of bone of a gigantic demon, from the inside of the mouth smoke rose fro within and a delicious smelling fragrance filled her nostrils. Could something be living inside the demon bone house? Maya followed her uncle however without those stupid questions.

When they got near the mouth of the house, a drape covered the doorway and Sesshomaru moved it aside with his one arm and looked to Maya.

“Inside.” he said demandingly.

Maya walked in without another look at her uncle. When she walked in, an old man with hardly any hair atop his head had his back turned to her stirring something within a giant pot. Maya had manners so she waited to speak before the old man turned, but fro behind her, Sesshomaru pushed past her and stood in front of the old man.

“Totosai.” Sesshomaru said sternly.

The old man jumped at his name and nearly knocked over the pot and tried his best to crawl t away from Sesshomaru.

“Where are you going old man?” Sesshomaru said in an annoyed tone.

“You get out of here!” the old man bellowed. He seemed very terrified of Sesshomaru.

Maya’s eyes widened with surprise. She had ever heard anyone speak to her uncle in such a manner. She would have been beaten severely if she had spoken like that.

“Be quiet old man. I am not here to harm you. I am here for the half breed.” Sesshomaru turned to Maya.

The old man blinked in a confused way like he had been asked to tap dance. He looked past Sesshomaru towards Maya. He then gasped like someone told him there was a fountain of youth potion.

“No it cannot be… is that… Inuya-?”

“No, it is not that half breed. This is a different one.”

Totosai stood up, no longer looking terrified at the presence of Sesshomaru, but looked quizzically at Maya. He moved past Sesshomaru and stared at Maya, she was taller than him, since he was crouching. He squinted his eyes and then looked like he was in deep thought.

“This isn’t… this isn’t who I think it is, is it Sesshomaru?” Totosai turned back to Sesshomaru. “This isn’t her, the child of-”

“It is.” Sesshomaru seemed angry and annoyed that Totosai was having such a hard time with his words.

Maya hadn’t a clue why he was acting so odd. She looked to the old and then Sesshomaru. She didn’t want to speak, thinking that Sesshomaru may reprimand her. She bowed her head at Totosai and kept her hand to her sides.

“She looks like Inu-”

“If you speak his name again Totosai, I will personally see to it you cannot speak another’s name for the rest of your foolish life.” Sesshomaru looked like he could stab Totosai where he stood.

“Is it so bad, that you do not wish for her to learn his name?” Totosai asked.

Maya felt even more confused. She felt like she was in a room where everyone was talking in a foreign language that only she did not understand. Sesshomaru did not answer Totosai, but the old man could see he was right.

“Young lady,” he turned back to Maya. “What is your name?” he asked.

Maya looked between Totosai and Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru didn’t pass her an angered look or in fact any kind of look. It was alright for her to speak.

“Maya.” she answered quietly.

“Maya, a very good name. Now Maya what is it that you and Sesshomaru want?” with the way the old man said Sesshomaru’s name, he sounded extremely annoyed.

“I don’t know.” Maya answered.

“I think I do.” Totosai sighed. “The sword right?” Totosai asked Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru nodded and Totosai nodded as well. “I’ll go get it.”

Maya again felt confused. She wondered if Sesshomaru and Totosai both were going senile in their old age. Of course, this old man looked like he was just about to kick the bucket. His voice was just as frail as his body looked. And what were they talking about a sword for? Maya wondered if Sesshomaru was actually planning on killing her. She groped her neck with one of her hands and kept her nerves straight.

After a moments pass, Totosai came from the shadow of the back of his home, bearing a sword in a black sheath. Totosai cam forward and went to hand Maya the sword, but hesitated. He looked back to Sesshomaru and frowned.

“You don’t plan to take it from her do you?” Totosai asked.

“Just give her the sword Totosai.” Sesshomaru said harshly.

“Alright, it’s not like it will accept you anyway.” Totosai said handing the sword to Maya.

Maya without even turning to Sesshomaru to see if it was alright, reached out for the sword and grasped the handle. Drawing in to see if something would happen, Sesshomaru and Totosai both stepped forward and stared at Maya’s hand grasped around the sword. Maya looked back between the two. She went to let the sword handle go when Totosai sighed with relief.

“I suppose it suits her after all she is his granddaughter.” Totosai smiled.

“Does that means this is mine?” she asked.

“It’s only right.” Totosai answered. “The sword’s name is Tetsaigai Maya. It was Inu-, ugh I mean your fathers.”

Maya’s eyes widened. Her heart raced and she felt like she could hug Totosai and Sesshomaru at once.

“My father’s?” she asked.

“Yes, your fathers.” Totosai glanced at Sesshomaru, he seemed a little offended at the mention of Maya’s father. “It does make sense that the sword would let you wield it. Take the sword out Maya.”

At his word, Maya grabbed one end of the sheath and the handle and removed the sword. As she pulled the handle, the sword began to glow and a bright light shined as she removed the blade. When the sword was taken from it’s sheath it grew wider and longer, and much heavier. She dropped the blade to the ground still trying to grip the handle.

“It’s heavy…” Maya gasped as she tried to lift the sword.

“Well of course it’s heavy, your nit-wit of a father broke it once.” Totosai seemed to get teary eyed at this comment. “I had to take one of his own fangs to fix it.”

“One of my father’s fangs? What is this thing made of?”

“IT‘S NOT A THING!” Totosai said angrily crossing his arms.

Sesshomaru passed him a angered stare and placed his hand over his own sword without the sheath.

“An-anyway, Maya, the Tetsaigai is made from one of the fangs of your grandfathers. But your idiotic father broke it and was fixed with on of his own. And the other sword that you uncle has over there is the Tensaigai. The Tensaigai was made from one of your grandfather’s fangs as well. But unlike the Tetsaigai, the Tensaigai cannot cut.”

“It cannot cut?” Maya turned to Sesshomaru.

“It’s blade is not dull, it can heal. The Tetsaigai can slay one hundred lives with one stroke, while the Tensaigai can save one hundred lives with one stroke.”

“Was my father… that destructive?” Maya asked. If Sesshomaru seemed this cold hearted with the Tensaigai sword, than WHAT was her father like with the Tetsaigai?

“Well your father was hard one to figure out. But deep down he was a good person at heart. He just didn’t like to show it.” Totosai answered.

“But then why did you choose the Tensaigai Sesshomaru?”

“I didn’t.” Sesshomaru said, his voice harshly and angered.

“Your uncle and father didn’t have a choice. Your grandfather specifically stated that the Tetsaigai be given to your father and the Tensaigai to your uncle.”

“But why? He surly knew of Sesshomaru’s… attitude.” Maya tried to sound respectful.

“He did it, in hopes that his sons would put aside their differences and become close like real brothers. And it appears that it never happened and since your father’s passing, it will never come true.”

“If that’s all Totosai, we’ll be leaving.” Sesshomaru said as he stalked towards the door.

Maya was going to follow but still had trouble lifting the Tetsaigai. “Umm… wait, please, Sesshomaru-the sword-I can‘t get-it.”

With a sigh, Totosai grasped the sheath from Maya’s free hand. “Lift the sword with both of your hands.”

Listening to Totosai, Maya grabbed the handle with both hands and pulled upward. The sword came up at least an inch. With the weight of the sword, Maya felt she was going to rip her arms off trying to lift it. But the sword quickly lightened when Totosai was able to slip to entrance of the sheath under the tip of the sword As the sword entered the sheath, it a thousands times less heavy and Maya was able to hold the sword within the sheath with one hand. She thanked Totosai and ran off after her uncle.

When your fifteen, things are easier to understand; when your fifteen, you can learn more complicated things in life; when your fifteen, you can reach the top shelf in the pantry with the cookie jar that couldn’t reach before; when your fifteen, child like decisions seem insignificant; when your fifteen, you get your fathers sword.

You have to keep reading to find out!!! Tee-hee! And I love your new siggy Patriot. You can play the drums? That's awesome!
----------------------

With the sword named Tetsaigai, Maya felt overwhelmed with power. Not that this sword was something that slaughtered anything with one stroke, but the fact that it once belonged to her father that made her feel like she could take on anything.

She took the Tetsaigai with her everywhere. She held her sword to her bosom tightly and rocked as she sat in the water, careful to never let the Tetsaigai’s sheath or blade touch the water. She had wanted to show Baranku. He was a boy and Maya only figured that he like to see it. She waded in the water and pulled the sword out just a few inches, the blade had no stretched to it’s full form, something Maya had learned to make it do. She liked how it liked.

It wasn’t long before Baranku would appear for Maya. As she stood from the water, a small amount of miasma filtered the ground, letting Maya know of Baranku’s presence. As she stood up completely sheathing the sword into it’s sheath, Baranku appeared from the shadows and bore the sword in front of her.

“Isn’t it amazing Baranku!” she was so excited, she sounded like a completely different person.

“A sword?” Baranku asked unimpressed.

“It was my father’s! Sesshomaru let me have it! I can’t believe it!” she hugged the sword tightly to her chest.

“And what pray-tell are you going to with a sword Maya?” Baranku asked.

“Oh, it’s not like I’m going to kill anyone with it. It’s the fact it was my dad’s!” she grasped the sword excitedly.

“It’s useless if you don’t plan to use it.” Baranku said.

Why did he sound so angry? Maya thought. She grasped the sword tighter, suddenly that feeling she had about Baranku years ago was swarming in her head like a hornet. Something was up.

“You know Maya,” Baranku said. “If you don’t plan to ever the sword, why not give it to me?”

It now felt like a hundred hornets buzzing in her mind. “It was my father’s… you can’t have it Baranku.” Maya shook her head.

“We both know your not going to use it Maya. And think of it, I would put the Tetsaigai to better use.”

Maya felt a chill, she had never once mentioned the swords name to Baranku. How would he know about it? Something was indeed not right. The hornets buzzing in her head, the fluttering of their wings sounded almost real now.

“Let me have it.” he walked closer.

Maya without really thinking grasped the swords handle and unsheathed the Tetsaigai. “It’s mine.” she said as the weight of the sword pulled it down to the ground cracking the earth beneath her.

“You can’t even wield it Maya, look at you. How weak.” he stated.

“Who are you?” Maya asked.

“What?” Baranku asked.

“Your not Baranku… he was my friend. Your different.”

“Oh honestly, I don’t have time for questions…” Baranku seemed to have disappeared.

The next moment Maya felt a force push her aside back into the water. When she got full view of her surroundings, Baranku was standing beside the Tetsaigai, which had reverberated back into it’s skinnier form. Baranku threw his baboon coat over the sword and grasped the coat surrounding the sword and in a pool of miasma he was gone along with the Tetsaigai.

When your fifteen, people you trusted turn on you; when your fifteen, time goes by to fast; when your fifteen, all things that you hear are lies; when your fifteen, people still don’t take you seriously; when your fifteen, those you thought you loved… turn out to hate you.

Yep, I was right. He was a son of Naraku. There's no other way he could have known the Tetsusaiga's name, and that it had a barrier around it to keep full youkai from wielding it. But why did he put his baboon coat around it before disappearing with it? He's hanyou too, isn't he?

Angel Fighter - February 16, 2006 04:37 AM (GMT)
Sorry for what took so long!!! Please, I am deeply sorry, been busy with things!!
--------------------

Maya dared not return home to Sesshomaru without the Tetsaigai. She feared the worst of Sesshomaru. He had already made it clear that if she let anything happen to the sword, he’d kill her personally with his own sword, the Tokijin. When Maya fully gained awareness of what had happened she immediately started after Baranku, although she had no idea where she was going. She couldn’t get a scent of him nor his miasma. Let alone if she breathed in even a little if his miasma, it hurt her lungs.

After endless hours of searching, Maya knew there was only person to look to if the sword was missing. She remembered the route back to the old man Totosai’s home and followed it. When she had nothing to lose, then she’d go to Sesshomaru, but for now she’s put that on hold.

When she had arrived at Totosai’s, she had noticed that he was sitting outside like he had already been expecting her. She sighed and guessed that if she was anything like her father than he’d know about it anyway. When Maya came forward to Totosai he looked her dead in the eye and frowned.

“You broke the sword didn’t you?” he asked.

Maya felt guilty. Of course she didn’t brake it, she did worse. She had gotten it stolen.

“No…” she murmured.

“I don’t see it with you… don’t tell me Sesshomaru took it!” He rose his voice which actually wasn’t so loud for an old man’s.

“No…” Maya murmured again.

“Well… what happened to it?” he asked.

“I um…” Maya sighed. “I got it stolen…”she said.

“Come again, my hearings hard.” he asked putting his hand behind one of his ears.

“I got the Tetsaigai stolen.” she said a little louder.

“You got the Tetsaigai swollen? Well of course ya dummy, it’s supposed to extend out like that.”

“NO!” Maya shouted. “The sword got taken away from me! Someone took it!” she raised her voice to a shout.

“You DID WHAT!!” Totosai screamed. “I don’t believe it! Your just like him! Your just as careless and ignorant!! I can’t believe my work is being treated in such a way!!”

“Sorry,” Maya answered. “How can I get it back?”

“Well you really are his aren’t you? Always asking dumb questions, demanding that things get done now or sooner.” Totosai began to ramble. “What you should do is follow whoever took it.”

“I can’t, he disappeared.” Maya said. She didn’t want to say that it was Baranku. She didn’t know why she was still protecting him…

“I see, well…” Totosai looked around Kibiae as to make sure no one was near them to listen. Maya looked too, she didn’t know why, there was no one around here. “Can you keep a secret Maya?” he asked quietly. Maya nodded. “I have an idea. You need to go to a certain town. You may not know it but it’s where your father’s friend reside.”

“My father‘s friend?” Maya asked.

“She’s not old, but she’s not young either. She should still live there, I can’t really quite remember. But there you’ll find her.”

“There?’ Maya asked. He hadn’t even said which town she lived in.

“It’s the town outside your home. The one just before the pond.” Totosai said. “Don’t let your uncle know I told you about her, he wants no connection with her what-so-ever and he’d kill me if he knew I said anything.”

With that, Totosai grabbed a piece of torn paper and an ink pen wrote down some instructions for Maya. When Maya examined the name of the person she was to meet it said:

“Rin”
