Isn't Tsuichi (sp?) Earth...?
Gah, Japanese have too many words for one meaning. o_o
And..Wouldn't a helpful note for new Japanese learners be how to pronounce the vowels n such? ^^;
I mean, I already know how, but some people don't. o;
Kiete - February 12, 2006 09:35 PM (GMT)
That's true.. ^^;;
Okay then, vowels~ I shall do that and then post other words. ^_^
Vowels
a (like the sfx ahh.....)
i (like the sound a double e makes like see)
u (like the ou in soup. or a double oo.)
e (elephant/ eh? XD The first e in elephant)
o (like in oatmeal or like oh! :P)
Here's a basic way of greeting..
Konnichiwa! Onamaewa? (hello! what's your name?)
and then you would answer:
Watashiwa (name) desu. (my name is ......)
:sweat: Japanese is very complicated..
Oh! One more thing.
Be sure to NOT say desu. you have to say it as des. It's just a grammer thing... I don't know why.. :mint29:
And in Japanese there is almost ALWAYS has a Consanent and then a vowel. so even though you spell desu out, the "u" is silent. does this make better sense....?
Kiete - February 12, 2006 09:41 PM (GMT)
Ok, well here are a few phrases of how to say stuff you like.
Watashi wa manga ga suki des.
This means that I like manga. Watashi wa, means "I" the ga after manga is a grammer thing, and the way to say suki, is like su, (pronounced like to sue, as in sue someone) and ki is pronounced like key. understand?
To say that you love, or really like something, you say, dai suki (the dai is pronounced like Die) So an example would be.......Watashi wa manga ga daisuki des!
kagaku (science)
sugaku (math)
taiiku (P.E.) this one is pronounced like, Tie with an extra Japanese "i" sound to it
teni-su (tennis) hold out the "i" sound.
basuketo-baru (basketball) from now on, the little line after a vowel will mean that you hold out that vowel.
piza (pizza)
orenji jusu (orange juice)
kashi (candy)
co-ra- (cola)
hanba-ga- (hamburger)
Kiete - February 12, 2006 09:46 PM (GMT)
Oops, this post worked out werid.. XD
Kiete - February 12, 2006 09:49 PM (GMT)

Common Phrases and Greetings
Konban wa- like konnichi wa, this is used for after 5:00p.m. instead of Konnichi wa. this means good evening
Oyasuminasai- remember to use the Japanese vowels to sound this one out. try, and if u still think it sounds weird, ask. this means Good Night
Ohaiyoo gozaimasu- REMEMBER! leave the last u out of the sounding out. just say gozaimasu like gozaimas. and the double oo is just to make the "o" sound longer.
Hai- means yes in Japanese
iie/iya means no in Japanese
Arigato gozaimasu- means thank you
Doo [kiddy-censored]- means your welcome
Onegai- means please (as a way of asking a favor)
Gomen/Gomen nasai- means sorry
:woohoo: Ja ne minna! I'll be back for more posts soon!
Aika - February 12, 2006 09:53 PM (GMT)
^^b
See, now people thriving to learn the complicated but fun Japanese language will be at ease knowing how to pronounce the vowels. :B
And, wouldn't another useful phrase (i guess it's usefull, anyways...) be, 'How are you?'
And isn't it something like... "Konnichiwa! Genki desu ka?"
And then a response would be, "Hai, genki desu"
...Right? o_O;;
*Is still learning.* x.x;;
Kiete - February 12, 2006 09:56 PM (GMT)
Japanese are very formal and honorable people. They always say someone's name with a suffix like our Miss, Mrs, Mr, etc. here are some of the RIGHT ways to use them...
-san: someone you know and talk to (the general suffix)
-sama: this used to be used for lords and ladies. now it's used when you have great admiration for a person that is older or has a higher status then you.
-senpai: this is the suffix you give to someone who is at a level higher than you.....ex: my senpai is Schwpz cause she is the administrator of this site....or the more common ones are for students at a higher level then you are.....
-dono: used for men. more like saying Mr. (more formal)
-chan: this is for close friends. chan represents close friendliness. it can also be used for married couples. but in this case, part of the name is taken off.....ex: a girl named Michie could be called Mi-chan by her husband or boyfriend. this is commonly used at this occassion. kind of like how some people have nicknames for their significant others....
-han: in some manga, a person might address another person with -han instead of -san.......this is considered Kasai dialect....kind of like the Japanese southern accent/slang. it's not too commonly used....the only manga i KNOW that it's in is Samurai Deeper Kyo.........
-sensei: one of the most obvious to us anime otakus.......sensei means teacher. plain and simple.
-sendai: means king, or supreme ruler......dai means BIG in Japanese...while "sen" is a person.....so a big person would be like describing a big and important person.......(i just threw this one in for fun )
-kun: most often used for boys. but when used towards girls, it is often the same as calling them senpai.
:yawned: I'm tired now.. Typing is hard work, ne? (ps, ne=hey/right/yeah)
Kiete - February 12, 2006 09:58 PM (GMT)
