This is something I was going to do for the hell of it but then I got really into the story lne and decided to continue with it. I've got two chapers but they're very long for a head ups. If you actually read through them all, that'll prove you are my real fans and are patient. Let's continue.

~I~
A loud continuous panting echoed through out the alley that lay between an old warehouse and a simple bread bakery. The panting grew louder as footsteps followed right after the heavy breathing. The sound of clinking metal also echoed as the figure of a young man came running from the shade.
“Crap… crap… crap…!” he panted, the bits of silver hair whipping him in the face for every hard step he had taken and the back of his hair, which was black unlike his banes, flailed like a tornado had been drawing near.
“Stop! Thieph!” Called the officer following after the young man who was dressed in layers of black and silver clothing.
“Fph!” spat the young mysterious man. “How can all the other pigs understand you with that slurred talk of yours?”
“Don’t makes fphun oph me!” the cop yelled, his large belly danced as his stubby legs dropped down each step causing the earth around him to rumble.
The young man continued to sprint past dumpsters in his way; he knocked back smaller cans of garbage to increase the chances of losing the officer. He turned his head back; the jacket he wore was whipping behind him. The cop was chasing hurriedly after him, but it seemed like he was on the verge of giving up.
“Why don’t you call back up?” he yelled mockingly. He stopped as he caught sight of the cop stopping with his arm outstretched on the wall clutching the stitch in his chest. The young man held up in the street light the golden necklace he had snagged from an unsuspecting woman pushing a baby stroller.
The cop looked like he was going to take the young man’s advice and call for the back up. The young man placed his hands in his pockets and sighed admissibly. He stared at the cop who still perceived to take in the air he so desperately needed. He then pressed the button on the walkie talkie on his shoulder and said very clearly and loudly:
“NOW!”
The young man raised an eyebrow. Now? Now what? He thought as the enormous cop continued to case after him. The young man turned the other way and began to sprint off again, that was until a large band of officers blocked his path by putting up a barricade in the alley on both ends and blocking the streets.
The young man kicked himself. They had planned this. That was why that set up smaller barricades in different areas around him. He kicked himself again; he should’ve seen that coming. But before he had time to react, a squad came running at him from the front and the large cop who was easily the size of the four men coming at him already was coming from the rear.
With only a split second to decide who to face, the young man turned to the overly large cop heading his way. He ran at the cop who looked bewildered at this outturn and took a step back. The young man continued to run at the cop but then seemed to have shrunken into the shadow of the fat cop.
Even the other officers were puzzled and turned to one another expecting an answer. But a rustle behind them and an older man wearing a long coat and expression of surprise and anger came bursting though the crowd of police officers.
“Where’d he go!” he said turning his attention in every direction that his neck and head would allow him to.
Then a small light touch tapped his shoulder twice. The coated officer turned quickly to see the young man’s face staring him in the eyes, his gray eyes beaming with glee.
“Hey Detective Humor!” the young man’s smile seemed almost too large for his face to handle. The other officers around the detective were startled to see that the young man was only through the wall partially. His torso and above were the only things that were visible to the officers, and the rest below were inside the wall, but even so, more like the shadow the wall emitted.
“Oeax! Get him!” the detective shouted. “And it’s Hoomer, not Humor!” he screamed angrily as he threw out his arms in hug like fashion to capture Oeax, but to no avail as Oeax dived back into the shadow that was covering the bakery wall.
“What’s the matter detective?” Oeax’s voice echoed eerily through the alley. “You and your herd of law abiding pigs can’t catch me?”
Detective Hoomer grabbed the hat on his head and squeezed the rims around it and growled with his teeth tightly clenched and barred.
“Get down here Oeax! You’re under arrest!” the detective shouted into the nothingness.
“No thanks,” the voice sad more clearly. The officers looked around in hopes of spotting him, and sure enough an officer shouted and pointed.
“There on the roof of the warehouse!”
The whole lot of police officers turned in the pointing officer’s direction to see Oeax standing brilliantly in the moonlight. One of his feet was on the railing of the buildings roof top, and his silver eyes shining beyond any street lamp in the vicinity were glaring down on each officer.
“I don’t plan to get captured that easily!” he said brandishing the golden chain in his right arm so that the light from the moon glinted, showing off its absolute beauty.
The detective ruffled his hat and threw out his arm demanding that the squad of police officers find a door to the ware house. The cops obediently obeyed and in minutes they found a set of double doors and marched into the building. The insides were falling apart and the metal poles linking across the ceiling made them feel like the ceiling could collapse on them any second.
As they began ascending the stairway, they could hear Oeax’s outbursts of joy as he seemed to be thinking he was getting away with his crime. Detective Hoomer was leading the pack of officers as they began to reach the door to the roof. They ascended closer and closer until they had reached the door only to find that it been locked.
Just as Detective Hoomer was about to get three cops to ram the door, Oeax burst from the shade behind them and blew a loud raspberry and laughed. Each officer turned in horror.
“Is he a demon?” one officer asked, shaking in his boots.
“He just appeared through the wall like it was nothing!” another asked, his knees buckling beneath him.
“Don’t be afraid men!” Detective Hoomer announced as he made his to the back where Oeax stood only feet away and down three steps. “He’s just a Soulless.” the detective emphasized the word.
“Soulless hugh?” Oeax said lazily. “One without meaning… or without a soul.” he leaned his head back to where his eyes meet the ceilings where old broken lamps hung above his head. “Yeah,” he lowered it to meet Detective Hoomer’s eyes. “here, I don’t need it if I’m destined to live the life of the damned.” he said tossing the golden necklace at Detective Hoomer who caught it just in time before it slipped through his fingers down the flight of stairs.
“Wait… what?” Hoomer raised an eyebrow. “Are you giving up?” he asked confusedly.
“I guess so,” Oeax shrugged his shoulders and stuck his hands into his pockets again. “I guess I could go quietly. You know I’m a Soulless and all.” he pouted his lower lip. “Just go easy with the beatings…!” he announced as the threw out his arms in front of him and turned his head and disfigured his face so that it looked like he was waiting for some great pain.
“Well, it’s about time Oeax!” Detective Hoomer slapped heavy silver hand cuffs around each of Oeax’s wrists. “And who, knows. Maybe some hard time will turn your life around!” Hoomer beamed.
“Golly gee, Detective Hoomer sir that sounds awfully wonderful.” Oeax mocked him.
“Don’t get lippy with me Oeax. Now come along- hey wait a minute! You’re not just trying to put a fast one over me are you? Are you really Oeax?” Hoomer lowered his head and examined Oeax.
“That’s what my momma and papa call me.” Oeax beamed.
Hoomer beamed out laughing. He put his hand over his head and chuckled even more loudly than his laughter. “That’s a good one Oeax,” he laughed and drug Oeax away by the chain linking the handcuffs together.
“Soulless don’t have parents.”
As he felt the silver cuffs digging into his skin on his wrists, Oeax smiled and let Hoomer and his degenerate officers lead the way to the cell that would be awaiting him and his actual target.

Dark, gloomy, leaking, rat infested, poor plumbing, man handled iron bolts and bars, and lack of hope were some words to describe the desolate cell that a young maiden resided in. The window above her head brandished scratches from human finger nails and large cracks splayed at the corners of the bars each parallel from each other.
She scratched her nose as she felt it tingle. Dust. Nothing else made her sneeze like dust. She let out a loud ‘achoo!’ which caused the guard nearest her to jump.
“K-ke-keep q-qui-uiet in th-there!” he stuttered, shaking his drawn flashlight in the girls direction.
The light that glistened brightly on her long raven black hair with silver banes that covered her cheeks and ears made her look menacing. She turned empty black eyes in the guards direction, her skin exceptionally pale compared to his own. He bore a slight smile, had it not been for her absolute dull appearance and dark, goth, punky, and anarchy demeanor; she would’ve seemed more attractive.
“I would appreciate it,” she said with a very astonishing sounding tom boyish voice. “If you’d take that light off of me.” she continued to stare at the guard, whose face seemed to have turned white.
“You-you, c-can sp-speak?” this flashlight quivered in his hand.
The black and white clothed woman chuckled. It was a very normal giggle, but the man seemed to have taken the outburst as threatening as he withdrew his un-holstered gun and pointed it at the woman’s face.
“What do you know about Soulless?” she asked.
The guard was young, perhaps a rookie. He had a new beginner look about him that she recognized in all new cops. He held his flashlight shaking in one hand and his hand gun in the other, both pointed at the woman.
“I know that your evil v-vile creatures… born from h-hell and-”
“Let me stop you there.” she said with a virtuous smile. “We Soulless are not born from hell. Most of us are vile evil creatures but not all and I implore you to put away that gun. I would not like to be shot today.”
The rookie officer almost instantly stood upright from his seat and walked over to the bars with a disgruntled look on his face.
“I know what you’re trying to do,” he said waving his gun lightly next to his head.
“What am I trying to do?” the Soulless asked, also standing from the seat she had been resting in.
“You’re trying to get me to lower my guard so you can eat my guts!”
The Soulless almost felt the urge to slap him. She placed both her hands onto the bars and slowly a light shined from each hand and the light engulfed the bars and the floor and ceiling they were connected to. The light then began to morph the bars into a small gateway like an iron platted fence. She walked through the gate and faced the rookie with her nose nearly touching his.
“I’m not gonna eat you.” she said plainly.
The rookie was horror struck. He withdrew his gun into a firing position, but the Soulless grasped the gun by its barrel and squeezed it. The same sort of light shined brightly and the gun looked positively normal.
The rookie pulled the trigger and with a loud bang a long pole extended from the barrel and a flag unfurled around the pole revealing the words: “BANG!” The guard dropped the gun and reached instead for his club at his side which he found missing.
“I have no reason to cause you trouble.” the Soulless said blissfully and returned to her cell.
She grasped the iron gate and the light shined once more only to reveal that the gate had returned to its normal prison cell bars. She sat down once again in her seat and crossed her legs and put her hand under her chin.
“Why-Why? You-you could’ve escaped?” the rookie said still standing looking as dumbfounded as a man who was asked to tap dance.
“I’m aware.” she said dully. “I’m just waiting for someone.” she said closing both her eyes and placed both hands under chin lacing her fingers.
The rookie rubbed the back of his neck and looked at her like she was now a friendly person who meant no harm.
“So, um,” he said without stuttering for once. “Who are you waiting for?” he asked rubbing the back of his neck with his newly acquired toy gun.
“Look,” she began sounding serious. “You seem like a nice kid. I’d suggest you get out of here. It won’t be safe when he arrives.”
“I, I don’t get it? Who?” the rookie pulled a chair towards the Soulless’s prison cell.
“It’s not safe.” she repeated.
“Well,” the rookie sounded unsettled. “I guess we could transport you to a different location… if he’s that dangerous.” He added.
“He’s not dangerous, par say.” she opened her eyes. “He’s just… a little misguided.” she reclaimed the authority to stand and press her hands against the bars.
The rookie, now more aware that she seemed to be no threat stood upright and looked into the cell. She stared at him with great black eyes and seemed to sigh. He picked through his pocket and eventually pulled out a jangle of keys and flipped through three big keys until he came across a bronze smaller one and inserted it into the lock.
“What are you doing?” the Soulless asked.
“If he’s dangerous, I’m gonna take you some where else.” he said grasping the handle on the outside of the cell door and pulled.
But with a quick and effective effort, the Soulless throughout her arm and grasped the bars and pulled them back shut and gave the rookie a horrific stare. Her black eyes flashed with a radiant beam that looked like empty pools of anger.
“I said leave.” she emphasized the word ‘leave’. She clasped the cell door shut further and pushed the rookie backwards back onto his seat. “And I don’t need help from humans.” she muttered.
“I don’t get you.” the rookie shook his head. He had never seen a prisoner like her that would rather stay in a cell instead of be given the chance to escape, not to mention she had said that someone particularly dangerous was heading her way and she didn’t want to be transported somewhere safe?
“Good,” she muffled. “You shouldn’t.”
“I don’t understand,” he said impatiently. “I was going to let you out, you could’ve gotten away, and you could’ve even gotten away from me when you did the thing with the cell bars! Are you… stupid or something?”
The Soulless laughed energetically. She stood again and placed her arms through the bars and reached out for the rookie.
“Come here.” she said calmly, with the sound of laughter still in her voice.
The rookie backed away. This was a very odd Soulless. She was very different from the ones that were described to him by his elders and superiors. Most Soulless’s that were bad usually enjoyed killing and liked destruction. But this one was just a screwball. Talking of dangers and wanting to stay where they were… it was possible she was a destructive Soulless and only wanted to stay for the joy of whatever would soon happen.
“C’mon, I’m not gonna hurt you-” she smiled.
But as soon as the rookie doubled back in her direction, the main doors opened and a large band of officers walked into the room. Leading the fellow officers was a man in a long dark brown over coat and with a victorious smile spread across his face. Behind him was a young man who to seemed to be beaming just the same sort of smile.
“I’ve got him! I finally got him!” the officer in the brown coat shouted gleefully throughout the precinct.
“Well well.” the Soulless in the cell said under her breath. She retreated her arms through the bars and sat back down on the bench and curled herself into a nice little ball, holding her legs and pressing her knees into her chest. “It’s about to get fun.”
It had seemed the rookie cop was the only one who heard her, as he turned in her direction. A great rigid smile was splayed on her face. The rookie turned to the other officers and puffed out his chest, they seemed to be in such a great mood…
“Hey! Something’s not right-” the rookie began each word he spoke was being drowned out by the lead officer’s joyous shouts.
“You’re mine now Oeax!” Detective Hoomer the cuffs off of the Soulless known as Oeax and threw him into the cell door that held the female Soulless inside.
“Oeax.” she said blissfully.
“Medhea.” he said his cheeks pressed against one of the iron doors.
The back of Oeax’s jacket then caught a snag as Detective Hoomer grasped the shoulder of the no sleeve jacket and pulled him backwards. But still Oeax’s eyes never left Medhea’s. He heard the detective shout for someone to unlock the cell door. The rookie stood still for a moment, and then finally came over holding the keys in his hand. He reluctantly unlocked the cell door and raised finger to get a word in, but the detective through in Oeax before the rookie even opened his mouth.
“Now you two get along in there!” said the Detective looking over at Medhea and switching to Oeax. “I don’t want any funny business in there.” he then added seriously.
“Right Detective Hummer.” Oeax said for the first time taking his eyes off of Medhea and in an annoyed tone.
“I told you it’s Hoomer!” he shouted stomping his feet. “Watch these two! Oeax can disappear through Shadow and the other one we have no idea yet so watch your backs!”
The lower ranking officers silhouetted and clapped their feet together and acknowledge their assignment, but in the cell Oeax and Medhea were the only ones not listening to the officer’s conversation.
“Why did you take so long Oeax? That’s not like you to be late.” Medhea spoke as she still grasped her legs.
“I wanted to play with the cops. I eventually got bored and just let them capture me.” Oeax said twiddling with the bandana tightly tied around his head and the ties at the base of his neck, letting the remnants of his black hair stray out from beneath it.
“I was in here for hours waiting for you.” Medhea said angrily. “That new kid over there was getting me mad so I played with his head making him think you were a threat. I could’ve sworn I had made him defile himself.”
“Well… what do we do now?” Oeax asked.
“Well I’m pretty sure we cause mayhem and as much ruckus as possible.” Medhea interjected. “That rookie is my target if that’s alright.” she smiled evilly.
“Be my guest.” Oeax said as he watched Detective Hoomer leave the precinct. “Now?” he asked as he turned to Medhea.
“Now.” she nodded as they both stood.
Watching the remaining officers take a seat or leave, Oeax turned to Medhea who had walked away from the cell bars and placed her hands on the wall to their left. The same light shown brightly and as if nothing had happened the wall remained just the same.
“Not in this wall.” she said as Oeax watched the curious guards walk over to their cell.
“Good evening officer!” Oeax beamed.
“What was that just now?” an officer clicked his tongue.
“That was us trying to break out!” Oeax smiled as he watched Medhea in the corner of his eyes walking to the next wall and attempt the same thing with the second wall opposite of him.
“Not this one ether!” she said dully.
“Oh yeah?” the officer clicked his tongue again. “If your trying to break out, then why don’t you just do that shadowy thing your so good at?” the officer chuckled.
“I could-” said Oeax as he dispersed into the ground where the shadow of the officer lay.
“Where’d he-!” the officer began.
“But I can’t bring another person through!” Oeax’s voice spoke form behind the officer.
The other officers around Oeax and the tongue clicking officer jumped up and ran at Oeax. But he dispersed into the ground again and reappeared back inside the cell where Medhea was at the final wall of the room.
“I might end up losing them in the shadow!” Oeax smiled.
“Found it!” Medhea said hopefully as the light shown brightly through her hands onto the wall. Again the wall didn’t change but the lights went straight out leaving everyone in utter darkness.
Shouts from the officers screamed for everyone to get to the cell and capture the Soulless, but no one knew where to go. There were several sounds of officers running into each other and into objects displayed everywhere in the untidy precinct.
Then the only form of light shown brightly as the darkness only seemed to be growing. The officers turned in the direction of the light and saw Medhea with hers hand tightly wound around the cell bars. The rookie seemed to be the only one who knew what she was doing.
“C’mon Oeax.” Medhea said through the darkness.
As the two proceeded through the darkness, Oeax pushed and punched everything that was in his way whether it was an officer or an inanimate object. Medhea found the set of double doors and pushed them open letting in very little light, and just enough for the officers to spot them leaving.
As the two were about to walk out, Oeax and Medhea were jumped on by three officers. Oeax almost instantly, grasped the three officers and threw them into the darkness, where he and Medhea were pretty sure, had hit a group of scrambling cops.
“That wasn’t as fun as I was hoping it would’ve been.” Oeax said to Medhea as she sealed the two large double doors to the precinct with her light.
“I put the lights back on for them anyway.” she said as she turned to face Oeax. “Who knew it would be so easy to just find the wires in the cell’s wall?”
“Hard to believe that they are so stupid.” Oeax said as Medhea and he began walking down the street listening to the still panicking officers in the precinct up the road. “You know with all the technology that Man has created today, you’d think they’d be more aware of what’s going on with our types and be able to predict what we can do.”
“You’d rather have them experiment on us to find out what makes us tick?” Medhea asked looking at Oeax with his hands placed on the back of his head with his elbows high in the air.
“No way,” Oeax said with a nonchalant tone. “And even if they did… I’d just go into the shadows.” he said with his head in the clouds.
“What if by chance there weren’t’ any shadows for you to go into?” Medhea asked.
“Like there’s never going to be any shadows.” Oeax said childishly. “It’s the same with light. There will always be light just as there will always be shadow.”
“Aren’t you the poet?” Medhea laughed.
There was a silence after that. Oeax and Medhea continued to walk through the night. They passed a public pub and stared inside. Oeax was transfixed on the singer of a band on a stage. She was dressed in a magenta dress and her hair was piled with curls. Oeax then looked to the men around her adoring her beauty. Oeax rose and eyebrow and turned the other way and looked at Medhea who was still looking inside.
Medhea’s eyes were transfixed on a single man at the bar who unlike all the other men was not staring at the singing and dancing woman. He was having a small drink and his hair was long but also short and tied back in a small ponytail at the base of his neck.
“Do you remember?” Oeax asked.
“Remember what?” Medhea asked, her eyes not leaving the man at the bar.
“What it was like to be human?” he asked.
Medhea shut her eyes.
“Nothing.” she said hopelessly. “Not a single ounce of it. No memories of the past, not even a tiny drop of what emotion was like. We’re like empty books.”
“You what I could do with?” Oeax asked.
“What?” Medhea asked, her gaze transfixed on the other people in the bar. They had returned to their drinks as the woman singer had stopped dancing and returned to passing drinks.
“I could do with a run.” He said and began jogging in place.
“A run? Why?” she asked.
“Because-here-comes-Hoomer!” he said hurriedly and took off in the other direction.
“What?” Medhea turned to face the opposite direction of where Oeax had run.
Coming at her as fast as his legs would carry him, was Detective Hoomer with his trademark angry stare and gritted teeth. He waved his arm in the air with eight police officers right behind him each running at her at just the same pace.
Medhea with a smile on her face laughed and an in the same direction as Oeax. Listening to the rants and raves of Hoomer and the other police officers yelling for them to stop, they enjoyed their own laugh. Before long, she caught up with Oeax who was jogging more than he was running. Medhea brushed against him and nudged his arm playfully.
“How about a little warning next time you see him coming?” Medhea laughed as she ran alongside him.
“Seemed-more-fun-to-leave-you-in-the-dust.” Oeax panted.
“If I could hate,” Medhea and Oeax both stopped to take a breather. “I’d hate you.” she panted.
“Really?” Oeax took in minor breaths. “If I could feel bad, I would.”
“You’re both mine!” came the unmistakable voice of Detective Hoomer.
Medhea and Oeax stood upright and faced Detective Hoomer. It looked as if the other police officers couldn’t keep up and were left behind. Medhea ran her fingers through her long black hair and gave a chuckle.
“You came alone?” she asked, her black eyes matched the shade of raven black in her hair.
“I don’t need to hear any kind of crap from you Soulless-”
A rumble caught the three of them off guard. The earth shook beneath them and it seemed that the buildings surrounding them were about to collapse over themselves. The pebbles on the road they stood on shook violently and seemed to be jumping alive.
“An attack? Now?” Detective Hoomer asked the night.
“See ya detective!”
Hoomer looked around and to his horror Oeax and Medhea had taken this abrupt interruption to escape. He through down his hand cuffs and kicked them onto the road.
“Dammit!” He shouted as anger swelled within himself.
But before he could continue to get angry with himself, the earth rumbled even louder and began to split the cement beneath Hoomer’s feet. He staggered backwards and fell on his bottom and let out another swear. He tried to get steady when then another loud rumble made the nearest building began to shake and crumble.
Unknowing to Detective Hoomer a few feet away Medhea and Oeax remained still in the shadows. They watched him dive from the falling debris and laughed at him from a distance. They hushed each other and soon it began to get very edgy as large chunk of the building were falling from the roof of the building.
Medhea turned to Oeax, still laughing, and said to him: “Should we assist?”
“Why?” Oeax asked taking the question almost too seriously. “All that guy ever does is ruin our fun.” he said crossing his arms over his chest.
“Very true,” Medhea said. “But-”
“But what?” Oeax asked pouting.
“But if it wasn’t for Hoomer, we wouldn’t have as much fun when we’re trying to escape form him would we?”
Oeax had to think it over. On one hand, Hoomer would seem extremely annoying. On the other hand, he was the cause for their mischief and it was a lot of fun to just be there to annoy him.
Oeax looked at Medhea and sighed. They could always annoy someone else, but then again Hoomer was there from the beginning. Oeax nodded and the two walked into the crumbling street.
Across the way, Hoomer had taken a slight injury to his arm and was still struggling to stand. Seeing as he was injured, they would have to take special precaution. Medhea even heard Oeax mumble: “Great, now we can’t screw with him.”
Medhea kneeled down to Hoomer’s level and grabbed his uninjured arm and she began dragging him away from the scene of destruction. Just as well, Oeax grabbed his injured arm lightly and dragged him, as Hoomer fought unwillingly at the two.
“Let me go!” he shouted. “Your not gonna take me away!” he struggled and in the process hurt his arm even more.
“Stop moving.” Medhea said bitterly.
Her words were to be feared as her voice sounded very cold. It was enough to even turn Oeax’s head in her direction.
“You’ll only hurt yourself more.” she added.
“So behave Huggles.” Oeax said waving a finger at Hoomer.
“How many times do I have to say it? It’s Hoomer!” Hoomer said angrily. “And don’t lecture me like a child!”
It was more of an annoyance to get Hoomer to shut up than to get him away from the danger. They took him elsewhere, further from where they watched him from a distance. They let him rest inside of an alley and stared at him. The blood had trickled from the inside of his coat down his arm to where it split in between his fingers.
Distinctly, Medhea leaned down and rolled up his sleeve. Just a large cut was above his elbow where it would bend. It was turning purple and looked like it would bubble from all the pus that crawled out.
“Hmm.” she looked it over. “I’d say it’s infected.”
“Infected!?” Hoomer said taking his arm back from Medhea.
“It’ll get amputated if you don’t get it taken care of it.” Medhea stood and beckoned that she was ready to leave.
Oeax nodded to and threw his arms out again and place his hand behind his head with his elbows in the air again. He looked at Medhea and smiled playfully. He felt like asking who she knew medicines, but it was better left unasked as she seemed to be looking very deadly at the moment.
Oeax turned back at Hoomer who seemed to have taken Medhea’s advice and left very quickly. His footsteps were heard echoing throughout the alley and it made Oeax wonder if he was actually going to the hospital or rather call back up to come after him and Medhea. At the thought Oeax laughed and turned back to Medhea, her face pale and now looking away from Oeax.
“Something the matter?” Oeax asked.
“No.” Medhea stated firmly.
But Oeax could see from the corner of his eye, that to their left on Medhea’s side was the same man with the short ponytail from the bar walking on the other side of the street. Again Oeax wanted to ask, but he seemed to know what he thinking and walked ahead of him at a fast pace.
“Who is he?” Oeax asked himself.

Okay...I am into this. You have no errors, as far as "eye" can see, so I am rathering enjoying this. (I have to agree with miss30) I'd like to read more since this happens to make you one of my favorite writers. Good luck to you on getting a more constructive comment then my ramble.
What makes me want to laugh is Oeax, your male character happens to have the same power as one of my OCs. I like Oeax better though since my...Tokado is a little more gay in apperance since he has green skin.
ghostgirl_208 - April 22, 2006 03:57 AM (GMT)

~CHAPTER~
~II~
Morning broke as the sun rose from the horizon, illuminated the buildings as the orange and yellow colors displayed against the fountains water in the middle of the Industrial building with the bold letters above the oak door reading:
INFORMATION TOWER
Just outside the door, a young man of about twenty-one was awaiting the caretaker to unlock the door. He was wearing a long dark jacket and his hair was neatly tied back in a small black ponytail. He had thin oval glasses and was dressed for fall, a scarf neatly wrapped around his shoulders bore the colors of black and white and his eyes were the picture of a broken man looking for something to fulfill his life.
He rolled up his sleeve and examined his watch. It was six fifteen and the Information Tower didn’t open to the public until six thirty. So if his math was right he had another fifteen minutes to kill. He looked across the way; construction workers were busy with repairing the roads from last nights attack from the Rapier Dragons.
Even he himself wasn’t prepared for their latest attack. Luckily though he had thought ahead and planned out a shelter in the confines of the town’s park. The design was simple but effective. He had designed a circular shelter large enough o hold a set amount of people, the most it could handle would be about two to three hundred people.
There was that design in the park easily disguised as a globe buried in the earth, and then there was the other larger underground shelter he had built over a year ago, where most of the people went for protection. His favorite was the newer round one however, since the Rapier Dragons have a much harder time penetrating the outside since it’s not flat and the blades that protruded from their faces would only slide along it’s smooth round surface.
Even so, no matter how much damage they caused around the outside, the inside of the shelter was perfectly safe and he and other people had made it inside the shelter without a single unary besides the one that a friend of his, Detective Reginald Hoomer, had received a hit to his arm that was caused by falling debris.
Luckily there was a set of medicines in the shelter and being an expert in the field of medicines himself, he had been very quick on helping Reginald’s arm move functionally again. But yet he refused to explain on how he was able to get away from the debris without further injury.
The young doctor checked his wrist watch again; it was six twenty-three. He was annoyed at the lack of his patience. He turned the other direction back at the construction workers who were dressed in uniform colors of orange and blue. One had a shovel in his hand and was also leaned against the side wall of a dilapidated building. The others around him were hard working and digging in the ground trying to remove a piece of metal that was buried deep in the earth.
“Good day Vahn!” came an older mans voice.
Without jumping in surprise but a look of surprise on his face, Vahn turned in the older mans direction.
“Morning Julius.” he said happily fixing his glasses on his nose.
Julius was so much shorter than Vahn himself. He was about five feet and two inches, about the size of a growing child. He bore a walking cane from which was given to him by Vahn from one of last years worst attacks.
A Rapier Dragon had stabbed its long Humming Bird beak likes blades through his leg. Vahn did all he could, but there was no saving Julius’s leg and he had to walk with a fake one and a cane; but since then Julius and Vahn have been pretty good friends.
“Looking up what today?” Julius asked thumbing through the keys in his hand.
“Nothing special today Julius.” Vahn lied. He wanted to know about Soulless.
“Well it’s got to be something special if you came here Vahn. No one would come here looking for some every day kind of thing; wouldn’t be coming here if they didn’t want to know something big.” Julius said opening the door and letting Vahn and himself walk through.
Inside were large bookshelves piled with books lined up next to each other and piled on top of others as they rested on stools and end tables. He Information Tower was a great place to find anything about anything. Its books were filled with infinite knowledge and its walls were filled with history.
When Vahn was a lad and the Rapier Dragons attacked and had killed his mother and father; he hid out here. This was more than a library to him, but a sanctuary. The walls were thick with cement, iron bars, plaster, and thick metal lining inside the cement; they had been built by those forgotten to outsiders but remained known in this building to those who read the wall where their names are carved neatly.
“Well I won’t pester ya, go find what you want.” Julius said smiling his old yellow teeth.
“Have a good day now Julius.” Vahn said as he continued down the path of the red carpeted floor which led to the section of Mysterious Beings and Creatures section.
Vahn looked to the direction of each bookshelf. Along the walls were the notes of which letter the book was under. He was in the ‘A’ section currently, he was looking for the ‘S’ section. Near the back on the second floor was where they continued onto. Vahn looked for the circular stairwell and noted that people began pouring in.
Vahn found the stairwell after five minutes of searching and began climbing immediately and found the same looking notice on the wall. He was close to the ‘S’ section and eventually looking through halls of books and shelves, he saw in brass letters on the tenth bookshelf he found, ‘S’.
He skimmed through the books and found was he was looking for after almost ten minutes of searching. On the border of the book was written: “The Soulless” Vahn grabbed the book without releasing he had knocked several more books down and found a chair that was laden with pillows and an end table with a lamp and several more books next to it.
Vahn threw off the books off the table and set down The Soulless and realizing someone had seen him throw the other books he immediately grabbed them from the floor and stacked them back onto the end table.
“Sorry about that!” he said dumbly and grabbed his own book again.
The woman who had seen him shook her head and continued to prowl around the upper floor and eventually disappeared downstairs. Vahn opened the book to its list of contents and examined it. The first chapter was n introduction to the reader and it talked about the author. The author was some man named Preston Hughes. Skipping chapter one, he glanced down at chapter two; To Recognize A Soulless. He looked thought his area carefully.
“’To recognize a Soulless is to understand how one dresses. A Soulless, being in the exact same liking of a human being will look the same but yet have very many different qualities as well.
Your Soulless, no matter what gender or race, will always be dressed in garments of black and white. It is still unknown to Man as to why they dress in this form of fashion. It is believed that other forms of colors are of great distaste to them or it is the fact they are forbidden to dress as such.
The same for their dressing patterns can be said about their hair and eye color. Each Soulless has either black and white hair, or white and black hair. Banes and their normal hair for the top and back are separate colors. This to be not understandable. Their eyes are as well; they either come in white or black. There has never been a case that a Soulless has been spotted with complete black or white hair or neither have any been seen with combined colored eyes.
Moving on to how they react. There are two separate types of Soulless. There are the uncommon very edgy and hyperactive Soulless and then there is the very common nonchalant Soulless who would rather keep to themselves and remain quiet and hardly speak although they are seen almost everyday.’”
Vahn stopped there. He thought about it for a moment then turned his head to see if anyone was listening. No one appeared to have come upstairs while he was reading and it looked as if no one else was on the second floor with him.
“So… that’s what she was.” he said rubbing his chin. He pressed his glasses a little further up on his nose and dived back into the book and flipped several pages through it. “But what about how they’re created…?”
He skimmed through the book but found nothing on how a Soulless is created. He threw the book at the bookshelf after fully examining the contents and chapter titles. The closest he came to understanding a Soulless was through the first chapter on how to recognize one. Everything else he knew and already understood.
He stood upright again and replaced the book to its proper area. He then skimmed through the bookshelf again. Nothing else was about Soulless’s except the book he had already skimmed through and one more that was entitled: “Soulless, Do They Really Exist?”
“Of course they exist you idiot.” Vahn couldn’t stop himself from insulting the book. He grasped the book and returned to the chair where he had skimmed through The Soulless. He sat down and overturned the book to read the back.
“’Author of Such Books as: Soulless: Killable or Eternal?, The Traits of The Soulless, and The Day of The Soulless.’ Well it’s sure obvious this man is obsessed with the Soulless.” Vahn said as he opened the book.
He opened the book to its contents and almost like it was waving for his attention, there in bold letters was the first chapter: The Creation of A Soulless. He flipped through the introduction and ran right through the first chapter.
“’The Soulless begins with the simple definition of the word; without a soul. Without a soul is a simple way of describing a Soulless. They have no emotion nor do they seem to know on how they work. They cannot express joy not matter how much they seem to express it, they do not show anger not matter what extent of it they may show, they do not love, nor do they feel sorrow pity, or guilt.’”
They don’t express love? But do they feel it? Can they? Vahn thought as he re-read the paragraph.
“’Being as it may, it is unlikely that one would show affection to a human let alone its own kind. It is known that some Soulless, however there are very few, have been known to live with others, but they have seldom staid with the set being. It only seems that they try to act human, or they just find it entertaining to make their partner think they are in love with them.’ I don’t believe this nonsense!” Vahn felt like ripping the pages out and throwing them into the fireplace that sat in marble carvings across the room.
“’However, here it will only become more complicated. This is a brief explanation on how and why a Soulless does not feel emotion:
When a human being dies, in a state of great negative emotion, a spirit forms in their body. When the spirit is fueled by that certain emotion it becomes stronger and stronger, the soul is then rejuvenated. However, the soul does not remain a soul forever. It takes a full year after the said person’s death for the spirit to come back as a single organism. The soul feeds on the emotion that the said person died in, and when the time finally comes, all emotion is eaten away from the body. Just like a regular life cycle, one must consume to survive.
Here is a chart to show example of this process:”
Vahn looked down at the chart that was shown in a recyclable process. It seemed like it was also a food chart that was never ending.
“’A simple way of determining these sort of circumstances.’” Vahn read after looking at the picture displayed above the writing. “’And unfortunately as a result of this process, the said person is revitalized but does not recall past memories nor does he or she bare out the emotion to anyone that they may have once cared for or hated.
As a result of this process, it clearly shows that a life with a Soulless is impossible. I feel great pity for who so ever has lost a loved one and has or currently is trying to find a way for them to return to their former selves. I must let you know reader, that this cannot be done. It is better for you to go on with your life and forget about-’”
Vahn refused to read more. He took the book and threw it at the wall where the books spine bent and several pages poured out from its contents. He absolutely refused to believe such rubbish.
“If there’s a way they can be created… there’s a way for them to be un-created… to turn them back into humans.” Vahn said through gritted teeth. He slammed both of his hands on the end table and closed his eyes tightly. “I’m going do everything I can for you Rhea.”

Detective Hoomer lay back in his seat at the precinct with the open window beside him. He looked out at the sky and sighed. He was told by the town’s doctor, Vahn, that he shouldn’t go out and try to chase after criminals and wrong doers; but stay inside and admire the beauty of the sky.
Like however there was anything beautiful about the sky today. Clouds covered everything including the morning sun and along with the blue sky. Hoomer shook his head and pulled a pen from his pocket and began to scribble on a piece of paper that had been laying in front of him for what seemed to be ages.
“Today’s gonna be going on forever.” Hoomer said his eyes lids falling over his eyes. “Sleepy…” he added after his eyes popped back open.
The precinct door opened wide and two officers came inside carrying tow long boxes of pastries and chocolates. They looked absolutely merry and clanged each others arms together as they bumped into one another as they tried to get through the doorway.
“Well you two are awfully cheery.” Hoomer said delighted that he finally had someone to talk to. “What’s the occasion?”
“Hey boss,” the officer said with his hands delving into the box of chocolates already. “Last night my wife had my babies, twins!”
“Twins?” Hoomer stood from his seat. “Marietta had twins?”
“You bet, I’m an uncle of twins!” the other cop beside his brother said before shoving a hand held cake into his mouth.
“That’s just great what did Marietta do after she found out she gave birth to twins?” Hoomer asked.
“She cussed at me and said it was my entire fault and that she wanted to kill herself.” He said mockingly. “But of course after she held them she started crying and began to blame God. But she’s in no mood to kill herself of lately.”
“I’m surprised so didn’t want to get rid of them.” the brother/uncle said beside his brother and patted his shoulder. “You know seeing as twins are the sign of doom.”
“Nah, she’s a mom now, she won’t get rid of them for nothing.” Hoomer said cheerfully taking a pastry from the open carton that the father officer was carrying. “So where’d she have ‘em?” Hoomer asked his mouth full of jelly and sweet sugar bread.
“Had at the shelter in the park. Vahn wasn’t anywhere in site at the time, but some old woman helped deliver ‘em. By the time Vahn was on the scene, Marietta had the boys.”
“Their boys eh?” Hoomer asked, cleansing his teeth with his tongue.
“Yep, we named em Ferdinand and Leonard. Both have my manly facial features by the way.” the officer said grabbing his chin nearly knocking his handful of boxes onto the floor.
“Well that’s great news Gerald. Give Marietta my best of wishes. And congratulations to being an uncle Maurice.”
“Yeah, we’re gonna have a party too, as long as it’s alright with you Reginald.” Gerald asked.
“Well it wouldn’t be right if you didn’t Gerald!” Hoomer said making a fist in a victorious fashion.
“Yeah- oh no wait. We can’t.” Maurice interjected and pointing out of the nearest window. “Look.”
Hoomer and Gerald looked at each other and turned towards the window. In the window they could see two figures walking down the street, one was female with long black hair, and the other was male with silver pointy banes and his elbows high in the air with his hands resting on his head.
“It’s Medhea and Oeax!” Hoomer shouted
At the sound of their names, Oeax ad Medhea turned in the precincts direction. They stopped dead in their tracks and almost looked like they were going to explode with excitement.
Hoomer ran at the window and stuck his body half way through the frame and gritted his teeth. If he hadn’t hurt his arm, he’d be able to chase after them, but since he was injured he could do nothing.
“Hommy!” Medhea said blissfully, her expression widening into a heart filled grin as she and Oeax trotted right over. “How’s your arm!?” she said staying out of arms length from Hoomer.
“Looks like you got more banged up then we thought.” Oeax said looking at Hoomer’s arm, also staying away from his reach.
“You watch your mouth! As soon as my arm heals up I’ll be ready to lock the two of you up!” Hoomer said as he felt his teeth grinding.
“You know,” Medhea said grabbing his arm softly. “I don’t think there’s really anything wrong with it.” she said staring at the bandage. “Have you needed any changes for your bandage?” she asked.
Hoomer withdrew his arm and wanted to slam his handcuffs over Medhea’s wrists and Oeax’s, but she had a point.
“No, I haven’t had my bandages changed yet.” Hoomer said with an annoyed tone.
“Well… if it’s that bad where you have bandages, you should at least have them changed every once in a while.” Medhea spoke as if she were still examining his arm.
“Oh yeah, well how would you know about that kind of stuff anyway? You’re just a Soulless.” Hoomer said as he tucked his hand in his pocket feeling the cuffs in his pocket. It wouldn’t exactly be too physical to just slap the cuffs on them would it?
“Don’t ask me,” Medhea said as her face seemed to have dulled and turned to an annoyed grimace. “I just know.” she added.
Oeax walked around Medhea and stood on the left of Hoomer he stared at his bad arm and squinted his eyes. He gave little thinking noises and put his hand under his chin. Then, he raised his arm upward and gave a victorious smile like he had just received a good idea.
“Someone’s pulling your leg. But in this case I’d say your arm.” Oeax said rather dully than excited.
“What do you mean pulling my leg? You mean like someone’s hoodwinked me?” Hoomer asked.
“Well my vocabulary doesn’t extend to that type of word but… yes someone has defiantly screwed you over. Who’s your doctor?” Oeax asked.
“Ugh… It’s Vahn Ashford… What?” Hoomer asked Medhea’s face turned rather pale and Oeax too seemed to turn a rather different color in the face.
“Well, Vahn must be messing with your head because I don’t see anything that’s too much wrong with your arm. He’s a Healer right? Very rare to find by the way,” Oeax said to Medhea who rolled her eyes. “So that should’ve been patched up right when he fixed you up. If it was something serious he probably would’ve kept you over night.” Oeax finished.
“Yeah well… what do you know?! You don’t know anything about anything medicinal!” Hoomer said through gritted teeth.
“You’ve got a point there detective, but at least we know an injury when we see one-” Medhea said.
“-And I’m pretty sure-” added Oeax.
“-That he may just be-”
“-losing his touch in the field of medicine.” Oeax finished.
“What are you two now, psychics?! And you’ve got a lot of nerve coming here when you know damned well that there’s a warrant out for your arrest-!”
“Medhea wanted to know how you were feeling.” Oeax interrupted him.
Almost like it were gunshots, it erupted throughout the precinct and left everything quiet. The two officers in the back, Gerald and Maurice were still eating their pastries but stopped abruptly to listen like two school girls listening to a juicy piece of gossip.
Hoomer stood half way through the window frame with his mouth slightly agape. Medhea was running red in the face and she seemed to not want to make eye contact with anyone. Her head was hung low and she seemed to have just shut down.
Oeax looked at Hoomer like he could hit him right upside the head. Oeax had always had an older brother fixation with Medhea. He always watched out for her and treated as such, it was almost admirable on how the two behaved when they weren’t even related not to mention not even human.
Hoomer looked down at Medhea, her eyes were masqueraded by her silver banes and her shoulders were hung low as well like she had been crying. Oeax put his hand on Medhea’s shoulder and patted it while passing Hoomer a look of outrage.
“It’s alright Medhea.” Oeax said comfortingly. “Let’s get out of here.” said and began to her by the shoulders and turn away from the precinct.
“Wait!” Hoomer said in a confused tone. “I’m sorry,” he added as Medhea and Oeax turned back to face him, Hoomer had never seen Medhea’s eyes so big and sad looking. “I didn’t know… that Medhea cared about me like that…”
“Yeah well now you know!” Oeax said angrily. “She’s felt like this for ages and you have never once seen the signs?”
“It’s alright Oeax.” Medhea’s voice said sounding no longer tom boyish but like a broken woman’s voice. “It’s alright, I guess it’s just harder for other people to tell…” she said her voice so raspy now.
This was so strange. In all the time that Hoomer had been chasing after Oeax and Medhea he had no idea how Medhea had actually felt about him; and what was even weirder, is that he himself had never noticed how he felt about her either until this sudden outburst.
Did he like her back? It felt so confusing seeing as they had always appeared to have either hated each other or just annoyed one another. But this? This feeling? Homer had read that Soulless were very different people, that they didn’t feel emotion, but Medhea… They way she looked at him were almost like it was real…
“I’m sorry I never noticed… Medhea.” Hoomer said, not even listening to his own words. “I’m sorry I never saw through you, about how you felt… or even how I felt.” Medhea and Oeax both looked at him, there faces turned skeptical, but Hoomer continued. “I guess in all the time I’ve chased after you two… I’ve never fully realized that I actually had feelings for you Medhea. I even feel a little ashamed about it-”
“Hoomer,” Medhea interrupted. “I’m glad that you feel that way about me,” she smiled sounding more cheerful.
“That’s good,” Oeax said holding his chin and nodding his head. “May I have something to say though?” Oeax asked looking between Hoomer and Medhea.
“Go ahead… ugh I guess.” Hoomer said looking confusedly at Oeax.
“Well as you know detective, Medhea is a Soulless.” Oeax waited for Hoomer to acknowledge that. “And well, as you should also know is that…”
Medhea grabbed Hoomer’s head and pulled down his hat and burst out laughing. Hoomer felt confused, what was going on?!
“-Soulless don’t’ have emotions like love!” and at that all that was heard afterwards was the footsteps of Medhea and Oeax’s shoes as they ran off into the town leaving Hoomer stunned and looking absolutely stupid in front of his underlings.

Wow...that really had me on the edge of my seat. I was wondering about Medhea's emotions. I was having an inner conflict when the last part was happening. I have to say I'm surprised I laughed.
Anywho since I have no corrections...more?

~CHAPTER~
~III~
The black labeled seals laid around the body in a symbolic fashion, each fashioning the meaning of an element. The Fire seal’s were splayed on the right side of the wall, as the Wind was opposite, while Water and Earth were also parallel to one another.
The body of the man that lay in the center of this horrid room was covered in metallic chains that were the color of copper and rusty metal. The chains clinked together as the young man moved in his unnerving slump. The chains constricted around him tightly and crushed his body, pinching his flesh together with their metal bind.
He did neither gasp in pain nor moan. His eyes seemed dirty as he gazed around the room examining his surroundings. The seals each glowed in a pattern, the Fire turned red, the Water turned blue, Wind to green, and Earth to brown. When the light of each seal hit the body in his face, it pierced his eyes like the tip of a scorching hot poker.
This time, he did make a notion at the pain. He grasped his face with his hands that were barely able to reach his face. He screamed loudly in pain as the lights each grew brighter. He howled and threw his head around like a violent maniac.
“The pain is great, no?” came a hiss from the direction of the exit, which was apparently a new hole in the wall which only existed to the body’s knowledge recently.
The body turned in the direction of the hiss. Standing at the base of the hole was a hooded man in black and red. His face was no more visible than was anything else by the body as his vision seemed to have died with burning sensation the echoed throughout his body.
If the body could move, he’d jump at the hooded man but seeing as he wasn’t going anywhere, there was really no point. The hooded man stepped through the hole in the wall crushing the fragments of the cement and iron that used to separate the body and the outside world.
“I’ve got a job for you.” he hissed.
The body did not trust an once of the hooded man. His voice was enough to make the body want to rip his throat out so he‘d never hear him speak again.
“What kind of job?” the body asked, tantalized by his request, not to mention surprised by the sound of his own voice, it had changed to a thunderous deep voice.
“There’s something I have planned. But I cannot continue with unless I require the assistance of a... a well… suitable candidate such as yourself.”
“Maybe you didn’t hear me,” the body said as his teeth gritted, his remarkable silver hair falling over his face. “I asked what the job was, not about some stupid plan of yours. And I don’t recall me ever agreeing to it in the first place.”
“Very well,” the hooded man nodded. “Let me apologize for my rudeness then. I have been through hell trying to find you, the traps and the mazes set throughout this system are very annoying-”
“Get to the point!” the body’s voice boomed.
“I’m getting there, I’m getting there.” the hooded man said sardonically. “This job of mine, it’s more of a task if you will. I will reward you all the riches and women in the world as it soon will be ours.” the hooded man made a dominating move with his arm and bunching his hand into a fist. “I’ve got power and I’ve got the knowledge to control that. How’d you like to join me and take control of everything?”
The body spat at the hooded man’s feet. He thrusted his head back letting his hair fly away from his face revealing a godly like figure of a man’s face with piercing ice blue eyes.
“Do you know how I am?” the body said as he sat upright, the chains still trying to bind him to the floor. “I am Somnus.”
“The Supreme Guardian of the Wind. Exiled from the Four Masters of Element for the beliefs of human killing, attempt of murder to the three remaining Guardians, and let us not forget the attempt of world destruction.”
“Someone’s had their nose buried in a book lately.” Somnus sneered as the grip of the chains tightened.
“I’ve not only read, but I’ve seen. The lives you’ve ruined, the people you’ve squandered. How does one do so many things in his life and remain as untouched by time as you?”
“Don’t waste my time.”
“Oh of course, it seems that you’ve got loads to do inside this little prison of yours. I can’t imagine what you’ve been doing all these years. I guess whatever it is you were doing, I’ll leave you to it.” the hooded man sneered and took a step towards the hole in the wall.
“WAIT!” Somnus bellowed. He almost regretted pleading for him to stop.
“What it is? I am a busy man you know.” the hooded man said sarcastically.
“I know I’ve got nothing to do in here and I know that I don’t want to be in here a second longer. Get me out of these chains and I’ll do whatever you want.”
“I knew you’d see it my way.” the hooded man sniggered and snapped his fingers.
Like they were dust in the breeze the chains disintegrated into small golden pieces of metal and fell to the ground like sand in an hour glass. Relief of the chains release made Somnus fill with excitement. He stood on his own two feet and stretched out his arms, his muscles flexing and bulging.
It had felt like ages since he was able to stand. His legs wobbled slightly under his own weight, but he soon gained the ability to stand straight again. He flexed his arm and looked at his body like he had gone through a growth spurt. Even the hooded stranger seemed to be impressed by Somnus’s size. He wasn’t to big to be repulsive, and he wasn’t to small to be considered weak. Somnus looked at the hooded stranger and just realized how small he was. He looked very young for starters and not to mention his voice did seem to sound fake, like he was trying to imitate a different one.
“Shall we then?” the hooded man asked as he began to walk through the hole in the wall.
“Hold on, don’t I at least get a name?” Somnus said crossing his arms over his chest.
“Thesues.” he said and seemed to have been engulfed into the darkness that emitted through the hole.
“I wonder what kind of events will occur after this.” Somnus thought as he stepped through the hole as well, emerging into the darkness like they had become one.

As the rumble had not only affected Vahn, but it affected the others within the Information Tower as well. The reader near by who had been carrying a heavy load of books fell over as the tower shook under the pressure of whatever was going on outside.
Vahn dropped the assorted books he was carrying himself to assist the young man who had dropped his load. The young man crawled on the ground scanning the floor for his lost spectacles. Vahn grabbed a hold of the young man’s arm and lifted him to his feet.
“It might be another attack. You need to get out of here!” Vahn said to the young man.
The boy nodded and left his books behind and grabbing his found glasses from the floor and ran down the stairs. Vahn returned to his chair and grabbed his books, but just as his hand was about to wrap around them, he noticed an extra book on top of the three books he had already picked out. It was old and the corners were torn from either bad handling or age, and the spine was lose almost about to let pages just fall out from the book.
Vahn was tempted to through the book aside but he felt compelled to keep it. Stuffing the raggedy old book under his coat and grabbed his other three books and ran down the stairs as well. He luckily had the fortunate opportunity when coming down the stairs that he didn’t trip as the rumbling seemed to have gotten bigger and louder.
When Vahn reached the bottom of the stairs he could see Julius, the gate keeper, rushing people out of the door and pointing out directions where the nearest shelter was. Vahn ran past scrambling people and books falling from their shelves towards Julius.
As he got to the old man, Julius had just rushed out an elderly couple with their grandchildren. Vahn gripped Julius on his shoulder and gasped for breath.
“Julius, what happened out side?” Vahn found himself yelling. He had not noticed that the rumbling became so loud that it sounded like there was an earthquake outside.
“It’s another attack!” Julius said as loud as his voice would allow, which however was very weak. “Only this time they’re madder than a mother hornet.”
“When are they not angry?” Vahn said as the rumbling seemed to get even louder.
“Go home Vahn! Get going!” Julius said outstretching his cane and whacking Vahn in the back until he was out of the door.
Vahn wanted the old man to come with him, but he knew Julius would never leave the tower. The tower was more of his home then the one he slept in. Vahn ran down the street and could feel the book hidden in his coat slipping.
Feeling the pressure building in his body, he reached for the old book and pulled it out. However in the rush with his trembling hands, he let the book slip through his fingers and onto the ground underneath him.
As the book fell on it’s spine, it’s pages scattered everywhere. Vahn dropped the other books he was carrying, for some reason this book seemed to have a draw on him, tantalizing his brain. The pages within were a golden bronze clearly turned that way through time and each page had at least more than one tear or bent edge.
Vahn reached for the several scattered pages when then a boot stepped one the first page he reached for. Vahn remained frozen. It had to be a Shadow Dragon, the rulers of the Rapier Dragons. Although they appear to have a human appearance like the Soulless, they are far different from people like Vahn.
Vahn slowly raised his head upright and make eye contact with a pair of silver eyes. It wasn’t a Shadow Dragon, it was a Soulless. He had a black bandana covering his head and his black hair with silver spiky banes sticking out from under the bandana in the front. He wore a beaming smile and his hand was reaching down for Vahn.
“Need a hand Dr. Ashford?” he said as his smile widened.
“Wait I know you,” Vahn said after recognizing the Soulless’s voice. “Your that Soulless that’s always causing trouble in the town! Oeax!”
“My reputation proceeds me! I’m even known in the medical world!” Oeax said as he forcefully pulled Vahn to his feet.
“What are you doing!” Vahn shouted. Oeax was taken aback by Vahn’s out burst. Vahn thought he should give Oeax a good lecture, but there was no time. “There’s Repair Dragons out here!”
“I know!” Oeax said like a overexcited child. “Isn’t it cool?”
Vahn felt his eyebrow twitch. Oeax had to be the only creature on this planet to have dared to face the Rapier Dragons and they’re leaders that Vahn knew of.
“But you’ll be killed if they find you out and about!” Vahn said as he felt his hands tightening into fists.
“That just makes it more fun!” Oeax said he turned his own hands into fists and said energetically.
“You’re an idiot!” Vahn said slamming his fist onto the top of Oeax’s head, not enough to leave a mark but just a bump.
“Hey!” Oeax said as he lifted his own arms like a boxers. “I didn’t hit you!” Oeax said as he threw his arms out, acting like he was going to punch Vahn.
“I don’t have time for this! Get out of my way!” Vahn said pushing Oeax away so that he may collect his pages from the ground.
Although Oeax didn’t seem to have moved, he did shuffle his feet out of the way when Vahn reached for a page near his feet, but of course he didn’t lift a finger to help Vahn collect the scattered pages.
The pages that Vahn picked up seemed to have been ripped out long before Vahn acquired the book. As he placed them inside the book behind the cover, he stood upright and faced Oeax. The rumbling stopped and it almost felt like the Rapier Dragons and their riders were gone.
“Well no matter what you said,” Oeax began. “It looks like the Dragons have gone and left now.”
“You’re an idiot!” Vahn shouted. “To want to even see a dragon in the first place! You’re an absolute psycho-!”
“Oeax,” said a mysterious voice from behind Vahn.
Vahn felt his heart race. It was her voice. He wanted to turn but it couldn’t feel his legs. He wanted to speak but no words would come. His hands were the only things that seemed to be moving and all they were doing were trembling.
“C’mon Oeax.” she said as Oeax rolled his eyes.
“I don’t wanna! I wanted to see the dragons.” Oeax said arrogantly.
“That’s to bad.” she moved out from behind Vahn. She brushed past him and made a split second eye contact with him. But almost like she hadn’t even noticed him, she grabbed Oeax’s arm and tugged it lightly.
“C’mon, Hoomer’s going to be investigating this area soon.”
“Why? I haven’t seen any dragons anywhere near here.” Oeax said raising an eyebrow.
“That’s just it though, there wasn’t any dragons during the attack.”
“What do you mean no dragons?” Vahn found his voice but not the words he wanted to ask.
She turned to Vahn and sniggered. “There are no dragons in sight. I’ve been watching from the roofs. Nothing. Not one dragon in view.”
“I don’t get it, why would they do that?” Vahn asked as the butterflies in his stomach danced and proceeded to twist and turn his insides.
“Maybe they wanted to see everyone scatter.” Oeax interjected.
“And why would someone within the government do that?” Vahn asked forgetting for a slight instant that the butterflies were swirling inside his stomach.
“They probably just got bored like me.” Oeax said shrugging his shoulders.
“Oeax, you need to think like a human.” the woman asked.
“You need to think like a thinker Medhea.” Oeax said mockingly.
Vahn was taken aback. Medhea? When did she change her name from Rhea to Medhea? Vahn looked at Medhea than pondered if Soulless’s ever even remembered their human name.
“That wasn’t even a sentence.” Medhea said angrily.
“It didn’t have to be.” Oeax said folding his arms over his chest.
“Excuse me,” Vahn said clearing his throat.
“And what do you want?” Medhea asked.
“I-I was thinking, maybe the Rapier Dragon warning was just something like a test.”
“And refresh my memory and tell me when they had a test for a Rapier Dragon attack.” Medhea stated.
Vahn never would have heard these words from Rhea. How this version of Rhea turned like this was beyond Vahn’s understanding. Rhea was a kind and patient person whose response was neither insulting nor unkind. She kept a very high head and always wore a smile. This anti-Rhea was mean, had coldness in her voice and she was not as radiant as before.
“You know she’s right,” Oeax said. Vahn turned to face Oeax completely unaware that he was still standing beside him. “When has the government ever done that?”
It looked as if all three of them had to think it over. The government was known to keep things under wrap for the better or for themselves, but this didn’t make much sense at all. The warning is something that people are known not to toy with, even Medhea and Oeax being as unreasonable pranksters as they were and being Soulless knew better.
“Either way,” Medhea said. “I don’t really feel like getting into the business of whatever doesn’t involve us. Let’s go Oeax.”
Vahn watched Oeax shrug his shoulders in agreement and walk after Medhea. Vahn felt envious. He wanted to follow Medhea as well, no matter what the difference with her attitude and the slight alterations to her appearance, she still had Rhea’s face. He took a step forward but then froze, it wouldn’t be right to follow her. She was a Soulless now, and that’s all she was. She wouldn’t be able to recognize his feelings towards her neither would she return them.
At that thought, he continued to walk in the direction of his home. The old tattered book held firmly in his grasp, he thought of nothing else but Rhea, well now she went by the name of Medhea.
/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Medhea and Oeax walked along side by side after the brief discussion with Dr. Ashford. Medhea felt his eyes staring at her from the back of her mind. She knew him, but didn’t know him. It puzzled her, but since it wasn’t a Soulless’s place to know the relationships of their past lives, she left it alone.
It was best to just forget those thoughts and continue walking this planet with no thoughts of anything in mind at all. Those were words she memorized from Oeax when they first met.
It was cold, very cold. Snow was falling like rain and piling on top of the street lamps above her. She rose her head and felt like she had just been ripped out of an oven and into a freezer, a very unpleasant feeling. She was buried in her own long black hair that covered every inch of her body. She rose her head up to meet the street lamps light. It was flickering like it was being controlled by a child with a light switch.
Footsteps, quite loud like an echo, were headed in her direction. She looked down the abbey she awoke in. She tried to stand, her legs felt like wet noodles and even her arms felt like they were just goop. Her neck even seemed to flail her head in all directions. It became hard to see if anyone was coming at her from her left or her right.
When she got to her feet, a young man in the same patterned clothing as her was standing above her. His face was sullied with bruises and his arm laid at his side like it was limp like hers, but it just as bruised as his face. He kneeled down, causing him a little discomfort, and looked at Medhea with piercing silver eyes. He widened his grin into a beaming smile and put his non-injured hand on her shoulder. Medhea, felt like nothing was going on in her head, she felt not insecurity or anything that formed a happy feeling of being found.
“What is this?” Medhea asked looking at her hands. “What is this empty?”
The young man’s smile only got bigger. He lifted Medhea to her feet and patted her shoulder. There was a tight scarf wrapped around her neck so she ripped it off and held it. When it was bound around her neck it felt like a snake coiling around it’s prey. She examined the scarf and looked at the young man again.
“I’m Oeax.” said the young man. “Nice to meet you, and your name is?”
“Medhea.” Medhea answered. The name wasn’t something she had to think of, it just came out like she had been rehearsing the word.
“Well,” said Oeax as more footsteps seemed to come into the night. “Looks like we’re partners.” he said and ran in the other direction that Medhea was facing.
“What?” she asked.
She turned and saw coming her way was a group of men dressed in the same uniform and leading the uniformed men were tow different dressed men. One was dressed in a long dark brown over coat and an angry grimace on his face, and beside him was another man in a long brown coat with black hair and oval rimmed glasses.
The man with glasses stopped abruptly, his boots making a skidding sound in the gravel. The man with glasses looked petrified yet happy at the same time. Medhea felt something, something was telling her to run the other way, after Oeax. She looked at the man with glasses and saw that the other men with him stopped too. She looked between each of them and dropped her scarf and ran after Oeax.
When she looked back she could see in the street lamp’s light that the man with glasses had grabbed her scarf and was staring in her direction. After that day, Medhea had always been with Oeax causing all sorts of mayhem and discord for the men who were chasing him when she awoke. She never once questioned why she was there, but always drifted to the thought every now and then. That was almost half a year ago
“Oeax.” Medhea said as she drifted out of thought.
“Yeah?” Oeax asked as he faced her.
“I think he was wearing my scarf.” Medhea laughed.
“Hugh?” Oeax asked looking bored.
“Dr. Ashford. Remember when you found me and I dropped my scarf? Ashford was wearing it just now.” Medhea said embarking in her memories.
“Hey, he was wasn’t he?” Oeax laughed. “It suits him-” he added jokingly.
“Hey,” Medhea said cutting him off.
“What now?” Oeax asked impatiently.
“Here-comes-Hoomer!” said Medhea as she ran off into the street leaving Oeax behind with the distant shouts and rants of Detective Hoomer.
“No fair!” Oeax said running after Medhea, also listening to the shouts and protests of Hoomer coming his way.
These were the better days, Medhea thought. The skies were clear and cloudless, she and Oeax were having a good time and doing one of their favorite things (messing with Hoomer) and having a good laugh at it too. These were the days they’d look back on and laugh at.

~CHAPTER~
~IV~
A man stood facing his nation hidden in the depths of the Death Valley Wood where all was hidden secretly behind the dead tress and the shadows they emitted. His hair was black with red tips and spiked all in one direction.
“General Thesues.” came a mans voice from behind the spiky haired man.
“What?” he asked, turning towards the man who approached him.
“We’ve confirmed that someone within our encampment has indeed broken into the human’s town… I believe there was an attack on their… Information Tower?”
“And what the hell is an Information Tower?” Thesues asked, although the expression upon his face didn’t change.
“Our sources say it’s something like a human library. But none the less sir, it’s said in the readings that the Wind Guard-”
“Don’t talk to me like an idiot Bich.” Thesues snapped. “I know damned well what lives in that giant tower of theirs. It was a foolish move in the first place for them to put him in their with humans in the first place.”
“But he is heavily guarded sir. The humans would never reach him-”
“Imbecile!” Thesues flashed his black and red eyes. “I know that as well! It is one of us who have taken him!”
“You knew?” Bich asked surprised, embracing his scroll of parchment.
“Of course I knew! Do not think for one minute that I do not hear the gossip around this hidden death valley.”
“Of course not General! It just takes me by surprise you know so well for someone who hardly leaves his work station.” Bich said as the parchment crumbled in his hands.
“Perhaps I work to much.” Thesues showing the first sign of a friendly gesture by patting the top of Bich’s red head. “Or it may just be I am ensuring that the Shadow Dragons race will continue to exist.”
“Either way it makes me proud to serve under you General Thesues!” Bich bowed his head.
“Your ass kissing both enlightens my mood but also makes me want to puke.” Thesues said stepping away from Bich and towards the edge of his home and his base. “Look at them Bich.” Thesues laid his arms on the railing. “We are dying out quicker than we are growing. The Rapier Dragons are breaking their talons and beaks on the designs that the humans build for protection. They are becoming useless… we have to do something new or our civilization will crumble.”
“It’s sad to see them like this.” Bich said looking down on the ground watching mother Shadow Dragons with their children. “Is it really necessary to make the children work as well?” Bich asked.
“Everyone must work!” Thesues punched the railing. “I admit myself, it pains me to see those of such an early age working.” Thesues said showing no real sign of remorse. “But it needs to be done.”
The children were dirtied by the earth and mud and bore cuts and bruises even visible from the distance Thesues and Bich stood at. They carried heavy loads on their backs and wore ragged clothing that seemed to look like just patches of cloth sewed poorly and just tied together. The mother leading the group of children didn’t seem to be dressed to differently, her clothes hung on her like a drape from a curtain and to was dirtied by mud and old food stains.
“Truly sir,” said Bich sighing. “It is a sad day for us Shadow Dragon’s.”
“Well we’ll be climbing the ladder of fate soon my friend. Until then, we do what we can.” Thesues said gripping the railing like as if it were the only thing stopping him from going over the edge.
As they two watched their people and their dragons work, another man entered the scene. He was garnished with golden robes and a bright white armor chest plate strapped tightly around his chest. His long straight blonde hair fell over his shoulders and swayed at just the slightest draft of wind.
Thesues turned to him and grimaced. There had been no one who he worked with that disturbed him the most than the stuck up pretty boy that stood before him known as Dart. Thesues and Dart stared each other down with the same look of hatred in their eyes. They made it well known they were enemies within the Formation.
“Thesues,” Dart began as his gray eyes flashed. “I had not known you returned so soon.” he said adding an increasingly annoying smirk.
“I was gone for half a day, that doesn’t contradict me for anything that might ruin my position as General. You can go on and listen to your filthy human opera now.”
“For your information General, I was only wanting the slightest information of your whereabouts. The elders would really like to know where you-”
“I was out doing my own god-damned-business!” Thesues erupted. “So go back home and tell your elders that I was just taking care of some personal stuff.”
“Oh and secondly,” Dart began like Thesues had never interrupted him. “it’s not really filthy opera. You should listen to it sometime, it’s quiet entertaining.”
“BAH!” Thesues said spitting on Dart’s chest plate. “Filthy half breed, your mother would weep if she knew you were listening to such garbage-”
“My mother was an idiot (God rest her soul) and she was foolish to think that I’d turn against my father’s kind just because he killed her sister.”
“Don’t give me your life story Dart, I won’t listen.” Thesues said waving his arm. “And speaking of which why do the elders want to know where I was? Was there something about a secret meeting of the idiots I didn’t know about and missed?”
“No,” Dart chuckled. “They were just curious. And it appears you were gone around the same time as the human Information Tower was broken into. Quite a coincidence don’t you think?”
“Get out!” Thesues shouted. “GET OUT!” he said as he cracked his knuckles.
Dart smiled lightly and bowed his head. He clearly had more to say but whatever it was, it was never going to be heard as he was under ranked compared to Thesues and was ordered to leave. So at that note he swept out of the balcony doorway and vanished through the door that lead down to the stairwell.
“I hate him! Filthy half breed, mixed blood, freak!” Thesues said throwing his arms out angrily.
Bich stared at Thesues and wondered why he hated humans and half breeds so much. It was puzzling but it was better left alone. Knowing Thesues he’d send Bich to get hanged if he ever asked or questioned his motives.
/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
The day was almost over and Hoomer was still clearing through the office from the rumble that caused for the alarm of the Rapier Dragon’s attack. Papers were scattered all around his office and filing cabinets were knocked over onto desks or people.
Hoomer had just returned from investigating all of the town and the people within. Not one person who was injured claimed to have been attacked by a Shadow Dragon or a Rapier Dragon. It was mind boggling and was beginning to wear on Hoomer’s nerves. The only building that appeared to be damaged most of all the other structures in town, was the Information Tower.
Hoomer investigated Julius, the caretaker who had refused to leave the scene of the accident and claimed that no one suspicious looking had entered nor left the building. But seeing as Julius was getting old in his age, they thought he may have not really remembered anyone entering. The only person Julius said had been acting weird that day was Dr. Vahn Ashford.
Taking not only Julius’s word that Vahn was acting odd lately, Hoomer had gotten word from others that he’s been trapping himself in his house lately and not speaking to anyone. It was normal enough that Vahn would lock himself in his house because he’s usually always developing plans for shelters but he had continuously made it his business to inform everyone of what he was doing. Not to mention Vahn seemed to be losing his grip with medicinal related business.
Hoomer paid Vahn a visit that day during the investigations when he saw him standing in the street holding a rotten old book. It was a normal conversation and it didn’t seem that Vahn wasn’t involved with anything dangerous or made him seem like a suspect. Julius and several other people had clarified for him and his alibi, he remained in the Information Tower from six thirty to a little after one that day, but no one could say what he was exactly doing. It was just that he was on the second floor the whole time he was there.
Vahn did seem rather jumpy earlier that day when Hoomer was speaking with him. He was a little sweaty too, he kept dabbing his forehead and said something about a project he had going on at home. He had mentioned to Hoomer that he was working on another shelter, better then the other two combined.
Vahn was a trustworthy guy though, Hoomer didn’t have much of a reason to try and cuff the towns leading best doctor. So Hoomer let Vahn go about his business and did his other scouting of the town. No other building seemed to have taken more damage then the tower so it didn’t appear that they would need to worry about anyone sleeping on the street tonight.
As Hoomer was cleaning out his desk of the all junk that fell on it, the officers around him were laughing and telling jokes. Maurice and Gerald were still celebrating being an uncle and a father. Many of the officers had brought in drinks for everyone and were demanding a party for the two, but there was to much work to be done since the attack.
Not to mention there was mostly one other thing on his mind. Even if it was a lie, Hoomer felt something when Medhea had said she cared for him. Even if she didn’t truly like him back, that didn’t stop him from feeling this strong emotion for her. In all the time he has chased after Medhea and Oeax, it had never occurred to him he may just be chasing them for Medhea.
Hoomer shook his head. He was glad that no one could read his thoughts let alone hear them. He shivered. If anyone in the department knew he was in love with one of the Soulless’s that have caused this town more mischief than any human, than he’d probably get his license taken away, not to mention the utter embarrassment of it all. He could just hear his colleagues laughing at him as he began cleaning his desk for all his belongings.
“Hey, Reginald!” someone said from the front desk of the precinct.
Throwing Hoomer from his day dream he saw standing just in front of the double doors was a character dressed in all black and white and waving in his direction. Hoomer felt like someone had dropped a five hundred pound dumbbell on his back. His jaw lowered and quivered with anguish. It was him… or her… Hoomer didn’t know what gender this Soulless was.
“Oh it’s you Raede.” Hoomer said depressingly going through his papers and reorganizing them properly.
“It’s good to see you’re still working here.” Raede said walking past the other officers who were also confused by Raede’s appearance.
Raede was dressed in black and white like any normal Soulless, but his/her attire made it very difficult to define what gender he/she was. Raede wore a long man’s kimono over tight pants that showed off very feminine looking legs, but the upper kimono was neither right nor lose, but it made it hard to tell of he/she had breast of just a flat chest like mans. Raede’s hair was nearly as long as Medhea’s only his/hers stopped just above his/her bottom, and his/her eyes were slanted like a girls but also had a manly feature on his/her face.
“Yes I’m still working here.” Hoomer said indignantly. “I’ve even been promoted to Detective!” Hoomer said rather bossily.
“That’s nice,” Raede said lazily. “So whatever happened to Oeax and Medhea? They still annoying you?” Raede said, as his/her eyes flashing their white empty selves.
“What do you care?” Hoomer asked annoyed by the question. He wanted his mind off the two of those trouble makers, especially Medhea…
“Can’t I be curious?” Raede said going through the stacked papers on top of Hoomer’s desk. “You know they’re the weirdest bunch of my kind I’ve ever seen.” Raede added thumbing through a stapled stack of papers labeled as CONFIDENTIAL.
“You don’t say,” Hoomer said annoyed ripping the papers from Raede’s hands and throwing them into a cabinet in his desk. “They’re the only Soulless in town that make such a bad reputation for your kind.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Raede said putting his/her hands onto the stack of papers that Hoomer reached for.
“It means,” Hoomer said sighing angrily. “that your probably the only normal Soulless here that’s like a human (if you don’t include that you like a man and a woman).” Hoomer added speaking very low.
“And I must admit you’ve flattered me beyond anything anyone’s ever said to me, but I must add that I don’t really feel anything let along the flattered part. Just wanted to say something to make up for the lack of emotion.” Raede said clicking his/her tongue.
“I don’t like you.” Hoomer said as he scratched the back of his head.
This was why he didn’t like Raede. He/She was always speaking to fast or was always saying the most ridiculous thing in the world. He/She would start off by acting like he/she was a in a great mood, then drift into a soulful mood like someone had forced a lemon down his./her throat.
“That’s not surprising,” Raede said not blinking or taking any hint of sadness. “Your not the first person to tell me that to my face!” Raede said rather cheerfully.
“And that’s why people don’t like you!” Hoomer said slamming his hands on his desk. The echo was so loud it cause others to turn in his direction. “Your to damned cheerful!”
“Why thank you! Again I feel flattered but I also don’t-”
“Shut up!” Hoomer said angrily. “Just stop it! Can’t you at least just feel a little sad? Or anger? Anything besides a good emotion?”
“Well as you know Hoomer, we Soulless die in a state of great anger, sadness, jealousy, or anything bad; and because of that we are born again without those feelings or the good kind either.”
“You don’t have to remind me of how you’re created.” Hoomer said sitting in his chair dabbing his forehead with his sleeve. “I know to well!”
“Of course you do Detective Hoomer. It is Detective now right?” Raede asked like it was something personal.
“I just said it not five minutes ago!” Hoomer felt his anger swelling inside him.
“Right, right.” Raede said waving his/her hand. “So who do you need me to disguise as this time!”
“I don’t need you.” Hoomer said angrily.
“Oh-come-on!” Raede said sitting down in a chair on the other side of Hoomer. “You have to need me for something!” Raede kicked his/her legs rapidly.
“I don’t-” Hoomer felt his voice raising until the newest member of the precinct came striding over carrying two large boxes on top of each other. The young man set down the boxes with a great sigh and stood straight. He reached his arms back and cracked his knuckles against his back.
“Disguises hugh?” the rookie asked. “This Soulless can do disguises?” the rookie asked nodding his head in Raede’s direction.
“Yes I can!” Raede jumped up with utter joy spread across his/her face. “Wanna see?” Raede clapped his/her hands together like he/she was pleading.
“Sure, what can you do?” the rookie asked.
“I can do loads of people! Watch-”
“Don’t you even!” Hoomer said loudly and pushing Raede back into his/her seat.
The rookie looked between Hoomer and Raede and raised an eyebrow.
“Why not Reginald?”
“Because all this Soulless does is mimic people! And I don’t want to see any tricks in my precinct!”
“Oh-come-on!” Raede pleaded with Hoomer kicking his/her legs again in the air like a child.
“No!” Hoomer said sitting back in his own seat. “No stupid tricks of yours Raede.”
“C’mon Reginald.” the rookie asked.
Hoomer sat in his seat and kept his head low. The reason why he didn’t like Raede changing shape was because Raede liked to change mostly into people like Hoomer himself and cause a mix up in the precinct. Just last month Raede came in the building disguised as Hoomer and told everyone that they had the day off. It took hours trying to find each officer and inform him or her of the error.
“When I say no, I mean no!” Hoomer said crossing his arms over his chest and nodded harshly.
“But please!” Raede said anxiously.
The interrogation went on for what seemed like hours but was more like minutes. Raede and the rookie practically demanded Hoomer’s permission to allow them to see Raede’s amazing transformations. Some of the other officers who were relatively new wanted to see Raede change as well.
Hoomer did not give in however. It was his office and he wanted no funny business today. Not after all the nonsense of what happened earlier. When night was drifting in on the precinct, it was nearly time for everyone to finish repairing what was damaged and go home. Then again though, everyone was planning on staying that night so they could figure out what caused the massive damage in the first place.
They had forgotten about the disguises, the rookie and everyone else anyway. Raede was still pleading every now and then.
“Please?”
“No.”
“Please?”
“No.”
“Please?”
“No.”
“Please?”
“NO!”
When it was past midnight, Hoomer dismissed everyone from the precinct and had them escort Raede out of the precinct as well. It was a long day and it felt like it was going to be a long night as well. Hoomer did the usual before leaving the precinct. He checked the security system, he locked the windows and the cells, he checked everyone’s desk before going to the exit making sure no one left anything behind, and finally locked the double doors before leaving.
“Why were days like these going to be the ones where only I am left to do everything everyone else is to lazy to do?” Hoomer said as the headache he had from earlier arose in his left temple.
Hoomer raised his hand and rubbed his forehead. As it looked like the pharmacy wasn’t open, he wouldn’t be able to get anything to clam his headache. He continued to rub his head when he heard someone coming down the road. Loud footsteps from boots echoed through the streets, a china clinked against itself and it almost matched the rhythm of the footsteps.
Hoomer kept an eyes out for anything or anyone that might be headed his way. He saw no person but a shadow. The shadow was very large and by the looks it had to be someone who meant harm. Hoomer put his hand inside his coat and felt for the gun holster. Unlike the movies, he didn’t have to really feel in his pockets like some new guy. He knew right where his weapons lay. He but his hand around the gun’s handle and stopped practically right under a street lamp.
As the boots continued to match the rhythm of the chain clinking, it seemed like this person was walking at a mildly slow pace, like a regular walk. Hoomer’s hand began to shake; who was it walking his way? His hand felt sweaty and if he tried puling his gun out now, he might drop it.
Just as the thought occurred, a familiar voice came his way.
“Hey Boomer.” said Medhea as the night wind seemed to drift upon her face and let her hair flied wildly around her, and best of all… she was all alone.

~CHAPTER~
~V~
Sitting by the candlelight skimming through out the pages in the rotted old book, Vahn stared at it’s contents with his glasses hanging far down on the tip of his nose. He yawned loudly and didn’t expect that the words within the book would be eligible.
Even some of the pages were ripped out and as he had picked them up earlier that day he didn’t notice anything about the strange words written in the text. Most of the markings didn’t even appeared to be anything like actual writing. Nothing like simple vowels like ‘a’, ‘e’, ’i’, ‘o’, ‘u’, and ‘y’. It was more like symbols, and everything didn’t look lie it was printed from a copier or a computer, but it was all hand written and painted.
fire earth wind water are some of the basic elements that are known in the land they are commonly known to be considered the strongest of the elements balancing each other out fire as to earth as to wind as to water as to fire and so on
That was just a sample of what was written in the journal. Everything else didn’t make any form of sense to Vahn as he thumbed through other pages. Why had he taken the journal in the first place? It was thoroughly useless unless you counted it for trying to read gibberish.
The room felt very warm that night as well. It might have been from Vahn just sitting at his desk examining the book or it might just be that it was one of those very hot summer nights. No matter the heat though, Vahn felt drawn into the journal. He laid his head down onto the book and realized he wasn’t being drawn in at all, he was just exhausted from the lack of sleep.
His eye lids grew heavier and his mouth stretched out and he let out such a loud yawn that it almost sounded like a shout. As his head lowered over flat on the book with the pages sticking to his face, he looked through the window at the street where he could something. Since his vision was so hazy he couldn’t tell who or what they were, but there were two of them.
One was standing directly under a street lamp and the other was further from the figure under the street light. Vahn rubbed his eyes, sleep was taking over more than his curiosity. They almost seemed to be frozen in time or they were either just standing completely still. The one under the street light (from Vahn’s point of view) began to walk forward with it’s hand in it’s pockets or on it’s hips as a great wind blew and the figures long hair. There was no woman in the town whom had long hair like that…
“Rhea!” Vahn shot out of his sleepy state.

“Is Oeax in the slammer?” Medhea asked.
Hoomer was frozen stiff. This was not what he expecting on the walk home. Maybe a mugger or a run in from someone from the precinct or perhaps Raede again, but never Medhea, not to mention he was trying everything he could to avoid having anything close to a thought about her.
“Did you hear me?” Medhea asked. “Can you hear me Hoomer?”
Hoomer flinched.
“Did you just say my actual name?” Hoomer said dumbfounded.
“So you can hear me.” Medhea said lazily. “Is Oeax in one of your cells?”
For a slight instant, Hoomer felt annoyed that she kept asking about Oeax, it had even caused a lump in his throat. He stopped it however, there was nothing for him to get jealous about. Medhea was a Soulless, and a wanted one at that.
“No,” Hoomer said eating the lump etching it’s way down his throat. “And when did you decide to call me Hoomer?”
“I’m just looking for Oeax, I’m not here to play Q and A with you.” Medhea said coldly. “Have you seen him at least? Walking down the street? In a shop? Anywhere?” Medhea said as the wind breeze seemed to enwrap her hair to neatly spin around her. Hoomer couldn’t help but sigh in his mind of the beauty of Medhea that he had never noticed before now.
“Ugh-no.” Hoomer said straightening his stance, he noticed he was slouching a bit, a very unprofessional posture he noted. “He was with you last I saw.” Hoomer answered, practically eating his words, the lump in his throat turned into a monster growling and trying to get out, but he swallowed again. Luckily he and Medhea were so far from each other that she couldn’t see his attempts at keeping his cool.
“Oh well thanks anyway Homey.” she said turned on her heel and waved him off like she was trying to swing at a fly.
She continued to walk and very quickly Hoomer had realized how much he wanted her stay. He felt his feet moving suddenly and before he knew it he was staring at the back of her head with his hands outstretched towards her. Without even realizing what he was doing, he placed his hands on her shoulders like a lion on it’s prey and grasped her tightly and turned her around. This almost seemed like it were a dream or a fantasy as he wrapped his arms tightly around Medhea and embraced her tightly to his chest.
Medhea herself seemed bewildered by his actions. Her hands were held up on him ready to attack. She had thought instantly he was just trying to arrest her, but he was holding her to lightly now. Her face went pale and her eyes widened, his body was very warm compared to hers which made her feel like someone had just raised the temperature outside from seventy degrees to ninety.
Hoomer raised one of his arms upward and laid his hand on Medhea’s head and pressed it gently between his neck and chest. He laid his head on hers and stood still as if frozen by time. Medhea herself had given up struggling now and also seemed to be nicely rested and comfortable upon him.
It got very quiet very fast. It almost felt disturbing of how everything just became muted in a matter of seconds. It didn’t matter though. Hoomer felt very relaxed next to all the deafness. Medhea had twitched in his grasp, but Hoomer was not letting her go. She shook in his grasp and suddenly like a hot knife had stabbed him and melted his organs; he dropped his arms from around her and staggered backwards catching the look of her outraged face.
Hoomer searched his body for where the pain began. He found that nothing was bleeding but there was a large scab based mark on his abdomen that he could see through the hole in his shirt which looked like it had a just acquired a burn mark that resembled the outline of a hand.
Hoomer looked around startled, all the sounds were coming back like as if they had not even gone. He heard the night winds blowing papers around the street and cats meowed while the dogs barked at the moon.
“Go home to your wife Hoomer,” Medhea’s voice said through the thicket of the night. “I’m sure she’s waiting for you.” she turned and walked away.
Hoomer regained his senses and looked in Medhea’s direction. Her long hair blew rapidly like a tornado would be approaching. The winds themselves however ever reached Hoomer, only like the wind was meant to follow her.
His wife. Of course his wife was at home waiting for him. Annette was beautiful. She had shoulder length strawberry red hair and honey brown eyes. She was a sensitive person whose smile lit up the room.
It made Hoomer sick to think this. Not about how he felt about Medhea and what he was doing to his wife… it was just the feeling of not caring for Annette anymore. He felt like something vile had crawled in his mouth and died.
All of his old memories flooded into his mind. Annette was sitting on a park bench across the street from the precinct where Hoomer was just receiving his badge, Hoomer was reading a newspaper clipping and walked directly past Annette bumping into her arm; she giggled and waved at the police officer, and years afterward- Annette stood next him in a white wedding dress and purple and white flowers held in her hands.
What had happened to him? Why was he doing this? Especially to someone as kind and caring as Annette? He sat on the ground still feeling the slight twinge of pain in his stomach, Medhea was out of view and it felt like someone had just knocked the wind from his body. He no longer loved his wife but a Soulless. What had happened? Just what exactly had forced him to love Medhea?
It then struck him.
“It’s a forced love…” he managed to whisper.

Vahn had no real thoughts of what had just happened. He felt rage, that was for sure. Detective Hoomer had just embraced the love of his life and that alone would’ve been enough to make Vahn ready to kill him.
It was enough to suffice Vahn though when Rhea had pushed him away. Vahn felt utterly relieved like he had just been through a life and death experience and he had just been given a second chance.
Now he had to go a meet Rhea. He had to se her now. It was possible she only pushed Hoomer away knowing he was watching. Vahn had to be sure. Vahn reached for his coat and threw on the scarf that he acquired from Rhea so long ago and curled it around his neck. He shut the journal tight and stowed it inside his desk dour and made for the front door.
As his hand reached for the door handle, the door shot itself open and standing in the pathway on his patio was Oeax with his hand on the other side of the door holding the door handle. He was soaked with either water or perhaps rain although the sky was very clear of rain clouds.
“Oeax?” Vahn asked surprised. “What are you doing here?”
Oeax said nothing and permitted himself to enter Vahn’s home. Oeax looked around like he had just walked in by mistake and took a seat on Vahn’s patched couch and propped his feet upon the coffee table that stood before it.
“What do you want Oeax?” Vahn felt annoyed by the silent treatment he was getting.
“Is Medhea here with you?” Oeax asked his voice seemed very shaky for once, this had to be the only time Vahn had ever heard Oeax so worried about something.
“Why is something wrong?” Vahn asked, immediately thinking of earlier when Oeax had claimed he wanted to see the Rapier Dragons and the Shadow Dragons.
“Is she here with you?” Oeax’s voice remained shaky but he almost sounded just as angry.
“No Rhea was outside, but I don’t know where she went now.” Vahn said thinking strangely that she may just be outside his door listening in on the conversation. “Why do you want to know?”
“I don’t usually thank people but here goes,“ Oeax took a deep breath and exhaled every ounce of breath from his body. “Thanks-for-telling-me-about-Medhea.” Oeax ran the words together so fast that he seemed to have just spoken gibberish.
“Pardon me?” Vahn asked.
“You’re pardoned.” Oeax said childishly with more of a relieved tone in his voice and heading for the door to leave Vahn‘s house. Vahn could think the reason was because he was no longer too worried about Rhea. “Hey doc, can I ask you something?” Oeax said stopping inches from the door.
“What’s that Oeax?” Vahn asked.
“You… no probably not you… Medhea I guess, yeah Medhea…” Oeax looking like he was trying to think real hard.
“You know I don’t care for games Oeax-” Vahn began.
“This isn’t a game!” Oeax said bitterly. Oeax cleared his throat and brought his balled hand to his mouth and coughed on it. “Medhea,” he began sounding quite calmly. “she knows you somehow… right?”
Vahn raised an eyebrow. It felt like this was a trick question but he felt like he should answer. He raised his hand to the back of his neck rubbed gently. He expected he would share this story with someone but not Oeax.
“Yes, Rhea and I know each other.” Vahn said as his glasses dropped down further on his nose.
“And?” Oeax asked impatiently.
“Well… I don’t really know where to begin. We met about two or three years ago. She was brought into the hospital by three men scouting out the terrain beyond the towns walls.”
“The hospital?” Oeax asked in a very confused voice. He looked like he was standing in the wrong room with a quizzical look on his face.
“Well yes, even you know-” Vahn began.
“No, no, no.” Oeax interrupted Vahn again. “I met Medhea when you took her scarf. That’s when she became a Soulless.”
“Oh then let me rephrase what I’ve been saying.” Vahn said rather cheerfully. “I met Rhea before she was turned into a Soulless.”
“OH!” Oeax said childishly and pointing his finer directly in Vahn’s face and practically jumping in his place and twittering like a school girl. “That’s why you always call her Rhea! That was her name before she was killed!”
“Well yes when I knew her, her name was Rhea- WAIT DID YOU SAY ‘KILLED‘?” Vahn said as a great feeling so sickness made it’s way throughout Vahn’s entire body.
“Well sure,” Oeax said dropping his finger and shoving both hands into his pockets. “That’s how a Soulless is born. We have to be killed by a person, or murdered actually, in a bad emotion and then we come back as different people.”
Murdered… you have to be murdered to become a Soulless… you just can’t just die and become one… someone has to kill you…
Vahn felt like getting sick. His stomach churned s his legs gave way beneath him. He fell hard on his knees and stared at the shoes on Oeax’s feet and felt his entire body just give in to despair.
“She was killed?” Vahn said, feeling anger, despair, and empty all at the same time.
“Of course.” Oeax said, he clearly did not recognize that Vahn was feeling worthless. “I mean if everyone just died sad or mad they’d just come back wouldn’t they? I mean sure there are usually a lot of people murdered everyday, but you’d have to be pretty pissed or really sad to come back as a Soulless like me.”
“How can you be so calm when you talk about something like that?” Vahn stood outstretching his arms and grabbing the hem of Oeax’s jacket. “If she means so much to you, why do you talk about Rhea’s murder like it was nothing!”
Oeax pushed Vahn off of him sending Vahn into his own desk. The edge of the desk caught Vahn rip between his shoulder blades, stabbing him and nearly paralyzing him for a moment.
“First of all she’s not Rhea anymore.” Oeax said bitterly. “Second, I say it because if it wasn’t for Rhea’s murder I’d have never met Medhea. Thirdly, I don’t have anything in me to feel sad or pity for Rhea anyway!”
Oeax ate his words as Vahn shot up from the floor and punched him in his jaw. Oeax felt like someone had hit him with a sledgehammer. Oeax staggered backwards holding his jaw and clenching his eye lids shut together so tightly they felt like they were sown so. It seemed that Vahn didn’t persist in his attack as Oeax was allowed to gain his balance and steady himself.
“That hurt you-!” Oeax didn’t open eyes but he stopped abruptly at the feel of soft hair in his face. He opened his eyes and saw nothing but black. “I’M BLIND!” he screamed.
“No you’re not.” said a cool female’s voice.
“Medhea!”
Oeax gleefully enwrapped his arms around Medhea, realizing that the blackness was nothing but her hair. He embraced her tight and nearly choked her had he not just realized she was standing in front of him with her arms outstretched.
“You know you don’t have to protect me.” Oeax said pushing down Medhea’s arms while catching the glimpse of Vahn’s hard face.
“I’m aware.” she said coolly. “Ashford,” Medhea said focusing on Vahn. Like a eraser had just swept over his face, his hard face disappeared and a new embarrassed and guilty face appeared on Vahn’s face. “I would greatly appreciate that you wouldn’t hit Oeax. Especially for no reason.”
“Reason!?” Vahn said throwing out his arms. “There was a dammed good reason why I-”
“I’m not Rhea anymore Ashford.” Medhea interrupted him and sounding like she had just tasted sour milk. “I probably was when I was human. But I’m a Soulless now. Nothing more and nothing less.”
Vahn bit his tongue hard and choked. It felt like someone had just hit him hard in his chest causing his heart to stop beating. He threw his hand over his mouth in hopes of making the throbbing pain in his tongue to stop.
“Even if I could, I wouldn’t apologize to you for what I’ve said.” Medhea said bitterly. “It sounds pretty cold to say, I can tell because of the look on your face, but I have no recollection of anything from my past that involved you. So I suggest you leave me alone, before something happens.”
Medhea’s words burned his insides. This was not Rhea. No matter how much she looked like her, no mater how much Vahn wanted to believe Rhea had come back, no matter what anyone else said; this wasn’t Rhea. This girl, this Soulless, was a poor imitation of his lost lover.
Almost like she read his thoughts, Medhea nodded and turned to Oeax and spoke to him. Whatever she said, Vahn didn’t hear; it was hard enough to listen to himself right now. Oeax looked back between Medhea and Vahn and sighed annoyed. He grabbed Medhea’s shoulders and patted them with his hands and turned on his heel. He too said something unheard by Vahn’s ears and than walked away, leaving Vahn and Medhea alone.
“Ashford,” Medhea’s voice seemed to break through. Vahn raised his head and looked at Medhea, trying his hardest to hide anything that resembled sorrow. “Don’t think me a mean Soulless for saying what I’ve told you. It’s the truth and the truth hurts-”
“Please,” Vahn interrupted her. “Stop calling me ‘Ashford‘. It’s just Vahn.”
Medhea scoffed. “Fine, Vahn.”
Vahn felt his lips spread wide into a smile. It was nice to hear her say his name, but what was he thinking? This wasn’t Rhea anymore, this was Medhea.
“I want you to do me a favor.” Medhea said coolly. “I need a doctor to look at me-” she cut off noting that Vahn’s face turned as red as an apple. “What?” she asked.
“Ugh!” Vahn said touching his cheek with one hand as the other was shaking to badly. “I-I-can’t. Your-different-from-a-human-so-it’s-not-the-same-and-” Vahn kept going on trying to think of lies to tell her and crazy explanations that humans and Soulless are two completely different beings. He eventually found himself saying that he couldn’t examine her because it was inappropriate.
“What do you mean- NOT LIKE THAT YOU IDIOT!” Medhea said getting what he meant by ‘examining her would be inappropriate’. “I meant that I get this really odd feeling,” she said holding her hand on her chest with her fingers spread out away from each other. “around here. And it travels too,” she moved her hand onto her stomach. “right here. It feels like something is in there kind of squirming-”
Vahn felt a lurch in his stomach and blurted out words that seemed alienated from him. “ARE YOU PREGNANT!?”

~CHAPTER~
~VI~
“This world is very different from what I last recalled.” said Somnus as he followed the hooded man through the night. He looked up at the tall buildings and felt his neck ache as he tried letting his head turn in all directions. “It’s almost disturbing.”
“Things have changed much since your time.” said the hooded man that Somnus knew as T
