ok, umm..... so this is my first story, be truthful, but not mean ok? thank you!
the story will slowly explain it's self along the way. i don't mind if you point out grammar mistakes i want to become a better writer.

all of these charactors belong to me, if names sound familier that is the only thing in common that it has with another character. these characters sre out of my own imagination, please don't use them unless i have given you permission.

Faded memories
Chapter 1 Faded Memories

Running. Branches that I could barely see were whipping my face, my arms and legs. I ignored the stinging of thorns as I ran through them. I was running so hard, that I couldn’t even tell my sweat from my tears. Running, I was so tired of running, but I knew that I had to keep going. No matter what, I had to keep running, or I would certainly die in these woods. These horrible accursed; yet strangely beautiful woods. Even in the pain I was in, emotional and physical, I could still take in the sight of the trees. I was running my fastest, but my fastest wasn’t good enough. To think, that in the woods I had always felt safest, at home, comforted, by the trees. Now because of the woods that I was in I would probably die.

A crashing of branches breaking and the heavy breathing of many large bodies came from the clearing I had been in minutes ago. ‘How can I get away from them?’ I kept asking myself. My mind was racing for a way to get me out of this situation, which I had unknowingly brought myself into. Why didn’t I listen to him? Why couldn’t I have just done as I was told? The noises of my enemies getting closer brought me out of my thoughts. “She’s this way! Maya you know you can’t keep running forever!” The voice sent shivers down my back, it didn’t just come from anyone, it came from the voice of a traitor.

“Gaal save me” I cried out, my voice was husky and cracked; from all the crying I had done earlier that night. "PLAY THE SONG." the voice came ringing through my head. I was so shocked that I stumbled over a tree and was sent rolling. I stood up dazed “I saw you die, how can you be talking to me? Am I going insane?” I spoke out loud, looking to the sky for answers. "PLAY THE SONG, AND YOU WILL BE SAFE" the voice fading from my head with the last words. Tears still streaming down my face, I took out my flute. As I brought it up to my lips, I couldn’t see my adversaries, but I could hear them getting closer. All thoughts of them left my head as I began to play. A song that I had learned not too long ago: a song that was far too important too ever forget. As the song drifted above the trees and throughout the woods, I felt peace and comfort surround me. For the first time in the entire night, I felt safe.

I felt as if I was fading, slowly but steadily. I knew not where the song would take me, but the prince himself had taught it to me, telling me that I would always be transported to somewhere safe, but to only use it in the most grave of emergencies. ‘And this was definitely an emergency!’ The sound of the woods was fading also; I could hear new sounds, cheerful and friendly, the talk of people and the laughter of children. It felt as if I was being pushing through a curtain, as if trying to get to through it but not knowing what was on the other side. I was in a village, with people staring at me with their mouths open.

This is where my adventure began, and my memory from up to that night ends[COLOR=#FF1493]

for all those that are reading this (or few), please be patient, the next few chapters will be introducing the characters, but be patient and the story will get more exiting. ^^ i'll update in a few minutes

this chapter is dedicated to wateranddarkness666^^ so here you go, and i hope that you like it. Also i'm trying to introduce characters into the next few xhapters, so be patient with me.

Chapter 2 Lost Memories

I heard voices, even thought they were whispering. The sound made me wince with pain, ‘my head’s pounding I feel as if I’m being hit in the head with……I don’t know! It just really hurts.’I winced again. ‘Ouch! Even thinking hurt.’

“Mother, I believe she is starting to wake up.” A voice whispered quietly above me. I felt a wet cloth put on my forehead. I started to blink waiting for my eyes to get used to the dim light. “Hush, go get some soup from the pot, and some pillows to help prop the girl up” ‘the girl? Were they talking about me?’ The voices were both female, the second voice must have come from the mother. As my eyes got used to the light, I could see a lady, with brown eyes, and dark brown hair leaning over me. I flinched as I felt her hand on my forehead. “ Its ok, I’m only checking for a fever,” the lady looked kindly at me, and gave me a small smile. A girl about my age came into the room, she smiled shyly at me as she handed some pillows to her mother, and places a steaming bowl of soup on the floor. “ Do you think you would be able to sit up and have some soup?” I nodded my head slowly, as the lady helped my sit up, and then propping my back up with pillows. I was looking around the small room with wonder. ‘How had I get here?’ A picture of a forest came into my head, did I dream about the forest or was it real?’

“Now, before you have your soup, I would like to introduce myself, my name is Tia, and this is my daughter Mirrii” Tia pointed to herself, then Mirrii as she said this. “Um, I’m Maya” I started coughing after I said this. Tia handed me a glass of water. I slowly drank it with shaking hands. “Here, you should have some soup” Mirrii gave me the bowl of soup after I was done with the water. The water tasted amazing, taking the dry taste from my parched mouth and soothing my dry throat. After a few mouthfuls of soup, I looked up, swallowed the soup, and then asked, “How did I get here?” Mirrii gave a small gasp “You don’t remember? Not even the donkey cart?” I gave her a questioning look “Donkey cart? I’m sorry, I honestly don’t know what you are talking about.” I tried to sit up, but the movement sent my head from a painful throbbing, to a dizzying, searing pain. I cried out in pain, holding my head. Tia, who had left the room, came running in when she heard my cry. “Mirrii what happened?” “Her head must be really hurting her, which doesn’t surprise me from the bump on her head.” Mirrii said this soothingly as she slowly pushed me back into a lying position on the bed. “I’ll be back shortly, with something for your headache, you stay in bed while I’m gone.” Tia gave one last quick glance at me as she left the room. A few minutes later Tia came back with some strong smelling herbs then put them in water for me to drink. “Drink this and your headache should leave you” Tia handed me the drink. I took a sip, but started coughing, because of the strong bitter taste. I quickly drank it down, ‘If it gets rid of my headache, its worth it. I gagged after I had swallowed it “It tastes horrible!” I quickly took another gulp of water from the cup beside my bed. “You better get used to it, Mother uses it to treat almost everything!” Mirrii gave a small shudder as she said this. “Please, will you tell me how I got here?” “You don’t remember? Well I can only tell you what I know” Mirrii gave my hand a small squeeze as she started the story.

thank you!!! my dad who is reading one of my manga books in my room doesn't seem to care, but i'm glad that you care. hehe i'm the one who got my dad into watching anime, and now he's reading manga!

Yeah, I make my mom watch anime sometimes. I have about 100 manga comics (Inuyasha, Fruits Basket, D.N.Angel, .HACK//sign, Kare Kano, etc.) I tried to get her to read them. She was interested but couldn't understand how to read them cause they're backwards. Anyways I read them to her sometimes. Yeah, and my mom supports me all the way with the stories I write! Couldn't have asked for a better mom! :angelstar7: My dad isn't that great. He doesn't give a crap. Oh, well. I cant have a perfect life. I got a perfect mom and so-so bros. My two younger bros are the best! :angelstar7: Even though they are as annoying as hell!!! I'm the oldest though so they must obey me!! WAHAHAHA!!!! (way too much sugar today....but it's true.)

my lil' sis. (she's 2 years younger than me) refuses to listen to me, so i don't have much of an impact on her. she's going through the "my life sucks, my mood is the way it it is, and f i feel this way everyone else should feel this way too!" if you know that mood, then you know that i have a very short temoer with her latley.

anyhow i will try to update tomorow, i just get my manga books from the library (i return them don't worry) but my dad was making sure that i wasn't reading anything inapropriat. he was lloking through Tsubasa at the time i posted.

Yeah, I know the mood you're talking about. No, one of my younger brothers, the older one, he's 1 and a half years younger than me. He's going through the 'I'm cool! I have to act like a teenager even though I'm only twelve. I'v gotta eat everything in sight. I've got to sleep all the time. I've gotta act mean and tough and cool!' If you know what that is. He acts like a jerk alot...oh well....I'm fixing HIM good! hehehehe.... and my other bro who's 3 and a half years younger than me. He's ok. He's the coolest 9 going on 10 year old I'v ever met! He wears baggy jeans, awsome shirts, and he has his ear pierced. He got that when he was eight. He's really cool....but he is the most annoying THING on the planet!.......No the UNIVERSE!!! Oh well. Can't have everything.
But over all they will listen to me. Most of the time. They say I'm the coolest big sister they could ever have. Hehehehehe.....

Chapter 3 The girl who appeared from no where

“Ok lets start from what you remember.”
“I don’t know” I looked up at the ceiling, as if trying to find some answer, for some kind of memory. I closed my eyes “I remember… trees, branches and thorns hitting and scratching me, running from something or someone, and being scared, really scared, but I’m not sure if it was a dream or not. And……somehow being in a village……and a song, a tune that keeps playing in my head.”
Mirrii tilted her head to one side, while chewing on her bottom lip “ I don’t know about a forest, there is one near here, but that isn’t how you came into the village.” ‘Then how did I get here? I’m so confused! At least my head doesn’t hurt as much anymore. “I still don’t get it, how did I get her then?”
“You appeared in the middle of the road, in the center of the village. You just appeared out of nowhere.”
“You mean I just was there? I didn’t walk or run in, just poof and I was here?”
“Well, not exactly the air started to shimmer, I guess. Then you were just there, in the middle of the road.” ‘But that makes no sense! People don’t just appear out of nowhere do they? Why can’t I remember anything? I tried to hide a wave of panic, “You said something about a donkey cart didn’t you?”
“Yes. Well you had appeared in the middle of the road-” I gasped cutting Mirrii off in mid sentence. “Wait, the farmer with the donkey cart was right in front of me. He…” I closed my eyes. Trying to hold on to the memory that I still couldn’t grasp, as if I could only get bits and pieces of it at a time. “He tried to turn, so that he wouldn’t hit me, but there was a log, or something sticking out of the back, that hit me in the head.” I started to speak with more confidence as the memory was slowly coming back to me. “ The log hit my head with a loud crack, and I was sent reeling backwards. But I didn’t move far enough away from the still moving cart, and got hit in the side with a another log.” I gave Mirrii a questioning nod, to see if I was getting it right or just babbling. Mirrii nodded her head reassuringly. “I…I went reeling backwards, but somebody caught me…and…and that’s all that I remember.”

“That’s how you came here. Because after you got hit by the second time, my brother Hakku caught you and then you fainted. He carried you back to our house, and mother and I have been taking care of you since.” Seeing that Maya had finished her soup Mirrii offered to get her some more.
“Yes please, its really delicious, and thank you for everything.”


I stretched trying to get the sleepy unused feelings out of my arms and legs. I put my hand on my head, I could feel a bandage that wrapped around the top of my head, and a huge bump underneath it. I wince when my fingers brushed the bump on my head. I also noticed a slight throbbing from my left side, just above my hip, and just under my ribs. I slowly lifted up my shirt enough so that I could see the bruise. I bit my bottom lip out of shock, there was a purple, green, yellowish bruise about the width of my hand and 7 inches long. Mirrii placed the bowl of soup beside me, and looked at my bruise “It looks pretty painful” she said this giving a small shudder. “It looks far worse than it feels” I leaned over on my left side, testing to see if movement hurt. ‘I can move, but this bruise isn’t going to let me forget its there! “Ya… I can move alright.” I smiled at Mirrii as I said this. “That’s good to know” she smiled back at me. Instantly right at that moment I knew Mirrii and I were going to be great friends.

“Mirrii, would we be able to go outside please? I think some fresh air might help to clear my head.” “Didn’t your headache leave you?” Mirrii gave me a worried glance. “No my head feels fine…mostly… I just don’t feel right” I was trying to find a way to describe my thoughts. I looked at Mirrii, hoping that she understood what I meant. “Maya, you might want to get changed before we go out side” Mirrii bent down, helping Maya to stand on her stiff legs. What? Oh… I looked down to see what I was wearing, I was only wearing a long nightshirt. I blushed at the thought of going outside like this. “Yes that would be a good idea, thank you Mirrii, that could have been embarrassing!” I gave a small laugh. Mirrii giggled also “Yes, that would have been pretty bad! Your clothes are over on the chair, I’ll be waiting in the kitchen. That’s the room right through the door in this room. Call if you need anything.”
I looked over to the chair that had my clothes on it. I picked up my dress, as it slowly unfolded I looked it up and down, trying to remember something, anything about this dress. Why can’t I even remember who gave me this dress, what if my own mother made it for me! “mother” I whispered. I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to recall an image of my mother…Deanna…I smiled that’s her name! I looked back at the dress, it was a dark green fabric that went down to my ankles, it had a long leather braided belt that went around my waist, and the sleeves went just past my elbows. As I slipped into the dress, a memory came to me, of a woman, getting up from a chair and saying “Maya come try your dress on.” “Coming mother”. I smiled, maybe my brain just needs some time to adjust to everything, and then maybe I will remember. I looked at the chair, there was a cherry brown hooded cloak. I also put that on, it looked thin but as a looked more closely at the fabric, I could see an intricate weave of greased wool (to make it water proof) and…… thin copper wires? I looked more closely, yes there was copper wires, but when I touched the fabric it felt soft and smooth as silk. That’s really strange, how can copper be a thread, and smooth as silk? I better not keep Mirrii waiting any longer though. When I had finished fastening my cloak, I headed for the door.

In the next room Mirrii was waiting patiently at the table for me, as I walked in the room she looked up and smiled. “Come, we can take a walk in the field, and you can meet my brother and father”. Mirrii opened the door and went down the
porch steps leading from the house. As we came to the edge of the field, a very large dog came running at us. The dog was everywhere, trying to smell me, running around us in circles, and getting petted. “And this” Mirrii pointed at the dog “is Little Bear, but Bear for short” Mirrii started laughing. Bear had put his giant paws on her shoulders making him head level with her, and started to lick her face. “Bear get down! Yuck…stop, you’re making my face sticky!” Mirrii said this sternly, but a smile was creeping onto her face. I was laughing, but I stopped as soon as Bear turned to me. I let him smell my hand, then I petted him. Luckily for me; a boy whistled to Bear, before Bear could jump on me as well.

“Hakku, come over here for a minute” Mirrii waved in our direction. As Hakku started to walk towards us I noticed that he and Mirrii looked a lot like each other. They both had sandy brown hair that was kind of wavy, both had green/brown eyes, the same nose… but different smiles. Maya had taken this in the few seconds that it took for the boy to walk to them.

“Hello my name is Hakku” he extended his hand. “ Hi, I’m Maya” I shook his hand, noticing that he had a strong grip, and that he must work in the field a lot. “Hakku caught you after you fainted, and carried you to the house.” Mirrii sighed, “You should have seen the look on Sandrie’s face when you walked by carrying Maya. Hakku, she looked so jealous!” “ Who’s Sandrie?” I looked at Mirrii curiously. “Oh, she has only had a crush on Hakku since she first saw him!” Mirrii whispered in my ear. “Mirrii! You know that I don’t feel the same way about her, so you can just drop the subject!” Hakku and Mirrii glared at eachother, waiting to see who would stand down first. ‘Well, if they didn’t look so much alike, you would be able to tell by the way they act that they are related.’ I laughed quietly, they both turned to me “ What?” they both asked in unison. “It’s just that you both act so much like siblings that it’s funny!” They both looked at eachother, and smiled. “We get that a lot!” Hakku smiled, giving Mirrii a nudge in the arm. Mirrii nudged him back.

“So, what are you going to do now? Well after you get better I mean.” “Hakku!” Mirrii gave Hakku another sharp nudge in the ribs before whispering to me “ sorry, Hakku can be a real block head sometimes, but once you get to know him you’ll get used to it.” Mirrii gave Hakku a glare.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do” I sighed looking down at the ground. ‘I can’t stay here forever, I don’t want to over stay my welcome, but where will I go? I don’t even know who my family is, let alone where to find them!’ Mirrii seemed to have read my thoughts
“Of course you’re going to stay with us! We wouldn’t let you leave injured, especially when you suffered a little memory loss. Don’t worry you are welcome to stay with us, and the village would be horrified to see you leave without any help from anyone!”
“Thank you for your kindness” I whispered looking at the ground blushing a little. “Umm... I didn’t mean that you should leave, I was just curious to hear your plans. We don’t get many visitors in the village.” Hakku looked embarrassed. “That’s all right, I know what you meant” I looked at them both smiling.
“Dinner” Tia called from the house.
“We had better get inside, dad hates having to wait to eat!” Mirrii laughed at what she had said then started running and called behind her “last one there has to wash the dishes!” Hakku looked at me, then started running, but looked back to see me walking. “Oh, I guess it’s not really fair to race when you’re hurt.” Hakku waited for me to catch up. As soon as we were walking at the same pace, Maya gave him a quick smile, then started running to the house.
“HEY!” Hakku was gaining on Maya, they were laughing the whole way, but slowly Hakku pulled ahead and got to the house before her.
“Wow, you can run pretty fast.” Hakku was bent over, trying to catch his breath, in the doorway of the house.
“Wait until I can run my fastest, then you’ll see fast.” Maya, still panting form the run, laughed, then followed Hakku inside.

oh! you are a mind reader!!!! MUH HA HA HA! but I still haven't haven't introduced all the main characters! ^^ but they will be introduced in time.

awww thank you, i guess you could say that my story is kinda my outlet from the way my life is going. my great uncle recently past away, but this story is helping. you know when you just need to kind of excape for abit? this is what my story is for me. a portal to another world, where i can control the outcomes.

here's the update. umm, whats the saying.... the calm before the storm? ya, thats it! and that's all i'm going to say.

Chapter 4 An Entirely Different World

“Yum! Everything looks great dear!” Musso Hakkadoshi (Mirrii and Hakku’s father) was sitting at the table, hungrily eyeing the food. Tia was just finishing setting the table when Hakku and I walked through the door.
“Would you like some help with the table setting Tia?” Maya picked up a stack of plates sitting on the counter where the food had been prepared.
“Oh, thank you Maya!” Tia smiled; not a smile that you would just give to show your thanks, it was one of those smiles that you know instantly that the person cares about you. “ Alright, the tables set, everyone is here, we can eat. But first pray. Ok, bow your heads dear Father of All we thank you for all that you have done and blessed us with, and bless the food. Amen.” ‘something was at the back of my mind, but it was like trying to hold water in your hands, once you had it, not matter how hard you try, it just seemed to slip out and away from me.’ “Maya?” Mirrii’s voice brought me back to the dinner table, “Maya, would you like steamed chicken rice? Or the stew?” I though for a minute, my mouth watering looking at the rice, and then at the stew.
“Would it be alright if I had a little of both?” I asked hesitantly, not wanting to seem rude or greedy.
“That, is one smart girl!” Musso beamed at me “Why choose only one thing when you could have two delicious dishes?”
“I don’t think you’ll find anyone in the village who likes my cooking better than Musso!” Tia laughed at her husband’s remark.
“What? Can’t a man enjoy his own wife’s cooking without being laughed at for it?” By now everyone was laughing, and being the kind of man who can laugh at himself, Musso started laughing too. ‘ I really like it here’ I sighed happily thinking of how nice it was here, and that I wouldn’t mind staying here for a while.

Mirrii tried to hide the yawn, but her mother still saw it. “Oh! You all should be getting to bed now! You all need your sleep to keep you all strong!”
“Maya, we get to share a room, it’s the room that you were in when you woke up.” I followed Mirrii to the door that was right outside the kitchen area. When we walked into Mirrii’s room, I noticed that another bed had been made. Mirrii hopped on the bed on the right, so I took the bed on the left. We both pulled on long nightshirt that had been set out at the end of each bed.
“Night!” Mirrii said drowsily and blowing out the lantern.
“Night” well, that is at least what I tried to say, but it came out as a yawn.
“Oh Maya, don’t let the bed bugs bite!”
“And if they do, I’ll get a shoe and wack them ‘till they’re black and blue.” Tia poked her head in the doorway, finishing the rhyme before Mirrii could. “good night girls, and don’t worry everything will work for the best. And Maya if you would like, you can stay with us as long as you would like to.”
“Thank you Tia, I don’t know what I would do if you all hadn’t been so kind and helped me……”
“Its no problem, have a good sleep” Tia gave us each a hug, then closed the door, so the only light in the room was coming from the window.
“Night Maya” when Maya didn’t answer, Mirrii sat up and saw that Maya had fallen asleep, with a peaceful smile.

“EUFF!" I not only felt something huge jump onto the bed, but I also heard the clatter of claws on wood, and the bed creak with the added weight. I quickly flung the blankets that had been over my head away, so that I could see what was on top of me. I was looking into huge brown eyes, and hot breath was blowing on my face. "BEAR! GET OFF!" Bear started licking me face (remember that bear is a huge dog, standing on his hind legs, he is head level with Mirrii and Maya. He's the kind of breed that are able to fight bears) Bear, seeing that I was most definalty awake, he licked my face, then jumped onto Mirrii's bed.
"If I didn't love you so much Bear, I don't know what I would do, but I know that you wouldn't like it!" Mirrii gave bear a hug and a pat on the head, then unceremoniously pushed Bear off the bed and onto the floor. "Bear, have you woken up Hakku yet?"
"Bear cocked his head to one side, his ears twitching at the sound of Mirrii's voice. Bear then went running out of the room, we could still hear his claws against the wood, the creak of a door being pushed open.......
"AAHHH! Bear! It's a Saturday! We sleep a little longer on Saturdays! "
Mirrii and I burst out laughing "Well, as you heard Hakku's awake!" Mirrii skipped out of the room with me following.Well, Mirrii's a morning person, but I don't see how she can be happy waking up like that! Hakku walked into the kitchen/eating area and blushed "umm... sorry you had to hear that. Bear's been waking us up everyday since he was a puppy. As a puppy it was cute, now it’s just kind of painful!"

Mirrii bent down, holding Bear's large head in her hands "bear you used to be so sweet and innocent, what happened? You know when Bear was a puppy, we called him Little Bear, and I used to be able to carry him around!" Mirrii looked from me, to Bear who was now on his back, with his tongue hanging out, and whining to be petted. I knelt down beside Mirrii and scratched Bear's stomach, all the while his tail hitting the floor with a thumping sound.

"Ok! Breakfast time!" Mirrii raced around, getting out bowls and scooping porridge into them. "So, umm... Mirrii, Hakku, where are your parents?"
Hakku finished up the last of his porridge, then answered "Mom, would probably be selling herbs at the market, and Dad is out buying more supplies for the farm."
wow! Where did all his porridge go? Its as if he inhaled it or something!"
"I have to go and bring the animals out of the barn. See you both later, also Mirrii don't forget to pick the vegetables." Hakku walked back into his room the came out seconds later fully dressed and ready to work. Once Mirrii and i had finished the dishes, we hurriedly got changed then started on the many chores that come with living on a farm.

As Mirrii and I were pulling up carrots and other kinds of vegetables that you would find n a garden, we a saw a figure walking through a field, in the direction of Hakku.
“Mirrii, who is that? The person walking through your field?” Mirrii looked up and gasped.

p.s. i don't mind if you share your ideas on whats going to happen, it might help me write a better chapter. hehe i know who's in the field and you'll have to wait for the next update to find out! :crazybunny10: LOL ^^

Chapter 5 An Unwanted Guest
As the person came more into focus, I could that I was a girl. It was strange, I had never met her, but she seemed to be sizing me up, as if she wanted to fight. Even from far off I could feel the glare that she was giving me. I felt myself slowly blush.
“Mirrii, who is that girl, and why is she looking at me like that?” I looked up again, the girl was now starring at Hakku, pretending not to have seen Mirrii or me. “Oh, that’s Sandrie Matzo, she’s the girl who really likes Hakku.” Mirrii whispered, pretending to only be pulling up carrots.
“But why is she looking at me like that?” the look that Sandrie had been giving me was making the back of my neck prickle.
It’s as if she thinks I’m competing against her or something!
“Thank goodness Hakku doesn’t feel the same way about her!” Mirrii shook her head. “Well we might as well get this over with. Come on Maya, you will have to meet her sometime, and I wouldn’t be doing my job as Hakku's sister not to help him out any ways.”
‘I wonder, so if I have any siblings, would we stand up for each other watch over each other the way Hakku and Mirrii do?’ I looked at the ground,
‘this is so frustrating! What’s wrong with me!? Did I really hit my head that hard?’

I slowly stood up and followed Mirrii walking in the direction of Hakku and Sandrie. “Mirrii I have a really bad feeling about this.” I barley whispered making it loud enough for only Mirrii to hear. As we drew closer to the two, we could hear parts of their conversation.
“ Hakku! For all you know she could be a thief, or a murderer, or something! I think you should get rid of her as soon as possible.” My back stiffened as I heard her words.
‘but I can’t remember my past, what if what she is saying is true?’
“Sandrie! On what proof do you base your claims? How can you say something about someone you have never met?” Sandrie flushed a bright red, but continued with her argument. “Didn’t you even notice the colour of her hair? She’s from the North! Her hair is copper brown instead of the darker browns of these parts, can’t you even tell by the tint to her skin? They say that they are barbarians in the North! And you invite a barbarian into your house!” I started chewing on my bottom lip. I really didn’t like the way she was talking to me, and she had to know that I could hear her.
Well, I won’t let her get the best of me! I will choose my battles, but I won’t allow her to talk like that to me or about my family. Does she always act this way, or does she really hate me for the way i look?

As Mirrii and I came to the spot where Hakku and Sandrie were standing,
I felt like I could cry. But I wouldn’t. Why should she make me feel bad, what does she know to say these things about me and about my people!’
Even though I had not known Mirrii and Hakku for long, I could tell that Sandrie’s words had upset them. Mirrii kept clenching and unclenching her fists, Hakku looked like he was trying to decide something.
“Why do you say those things?” I asked her. Everyone looked at me startled, even I was surprised how calm my voice was.
Even though inside, I felt as if I had a storm of rage and pain inside my heart.
“Say what things?” Sandrie had a look of pure innocence on her face.
“The things about me, and my people in the North. And how do you know I even come from the Northern Lands, I might never have been there in my life but you judge me because of my appearance that I Northern. Besides, there are good, trustworthy people everywhere, and the same goes for those who aren’t so good.” I looked Sandrie straight in the eyes while I spoke. Sandrie seemed to be loosing her confidence, maybe because she didn’t want to look bad in front of Hakku. Or it could have been the look on Mirrii’s face.
'I don’t know if I had ever seen anyone look at someone in that way before, it was a look of someone who had a tasted something, then spit it out to find that it was infested with wriggling maggots.

“Well as I was telling Hakku, it was very nice of him to carry you all the way here, but I think that if you’re able to walk now, you should have been able to walk then.” What she said stung, as if she was accusing me of faking getting hurt.
“Maya was unconscious and badly hurt. How can you accuse her of faking, are you saying that she got hit by a cart on purpose.” Sandrie didn’t seem to like the way the conversation was going so she switched to a different tactic.
“Well, she must be using evil magic to have gotten here! How else did she appear out of nowhere? Can you explain that?” Sandrie looked smug, thinking that she had made Hakku and Mirrii think that Maya was evil.
“If Maya was evil, do you think my mother would not sense it?”
“No-no that’s not what I meant its just-.” Mirrii cut Sandrie off
“Sandrie its time for you to leave. And please don’t come back unless you plan on apologizing to Maya.” Sandrie looked like she was about to say something, but Mirrii hadn’t finished “ Sandrie I am not asking you to leave, but telling you to. By disrespecting Maya who is our guest; you are disrespecting my family as well as our ability to make decisions by saying such things.” Sandrie stormed off.
“You will find out how wrong you were! You’ll have to deal with the conciquences!” Sandrie yelled over her shoulder.

“ Maya, I’m really sorry that she said all that stuff to you. She had no right to say anything like that, please don’t take it to heart.” Hakku put his hand on Maya’s shoulder reassuringly.
“Maya, oh! I don’t know how you stayed so calm, I was really very close to loosing my temper!” Mirrii was glaring at Sandrie’s receding back. “Oh Maya! That was so… so… oh I so mad I can’t even think up a mean enough thing to say! Samdrie is so horrible!” Mirrii gave Maya hug. Maya who had been chewing on her bottom lip while trying really hard to stop replaying all the things that Sandrie had said.
‘does everyone think of me as some Northern scum? Do they just look at me and think that I’m dirt, not bothering to get to know me?’
“You don’t think of me as scum do you?” My whisper was so quiet I wasn’t even sure it Hakku or Mirrii had even heard me.

Hakku and Mirrii were shocked, “M- Maya, you don’t believe what she said right?” Hakku put bit his hands on my shoulders, turning me to face him. I kept looking at the ground not wanting them to see the tears in my eyes.
“Maya, there are a lot of people who might think badly of you, but there are people who don’t think you’re a bad person. Its only going to get harder before this gets any easier. Trust me ok? But Mirrii and I will help you, and there are many people in the village who don’t think the way Sandrie does.”
“Maya, please don’t feel bad, it just makes me so mad that she said stuff like that to you! I wish that there was something I could do to make you feel better.”
Maya looked up,
‘I’m not going to cry.’ “But what if Sandrie’s right? How did I get here, and were my memories so bad that I needed to forget them?”
“Maya we will help you no matter what. And you will always be our friend!” Mirrii grabbed Maya’s hand, and started pulling her towards the house, come on! I have an idea about how to make you feel better!”
“”Hey! Wait for me!” Hakku called running to catch up.

Chapter 6 The Surprise

Mirrii wouldn’t say what her plan was, but she said that it would definitely cheer Maya up. “ Alright! So to get permission, we had better get all our chores done quickly, then go into the village to ask Mom and Dad.”
“Ask Mom and Dad what? Mirrii, if it’s a surprise for Maya, then I can know about it!” Hakku seemed to be getting annoyed, not only slightly.
“Bear! Come on, we’re going into the village.” Bear came trotting up with a smug look on his furry face and carrying in his mouth a huge tree branch.
“Bear. When are you going to learn we won’t throw huge branches? Go find a stick.” Hakku shrugged his shoulders while watching Bear run in circles trying to find a good place to hide his treasure. The Atoki’s farm (Mirrii and Hakku’s farm) isn’t far from the village, probably about a kilometer or so away. As the three were getting closer to the village, they noticed someone walking towards them. Bear barked happily at the person, then ran off to meet him.

As they got closer, Maya noticed that the boy walking with bear looked about Hakku’s age, and had the muscles from working on a farm.
“Tyre! So you finally came to see us!” Hakku shoved Tyre playfully.
“Oh Maya, this is Tyre, and Tyre this is Maya” Hakku introduced the two in a formal voice, but you could see the hint of a smile creeping onto his face.
“Glad to see that you’re walking, I’m guessing that means that you’re better?” Tyre held out his hand, and Maya shook it.
“ Mostly better” Maya not wanting to ruin the mood said cheerfully with a shrug.
“That’s great to hear! I hope that Hakku hasn’t been to much of a pain, he gets that way sometimes.”
“Hey! This coming from you?!” Hakku and Tyre started play fighting and Bear ran around them in circles, jumping up to lick them every few minutes. “ Do they always act like this together?” Maya looked at the boys, trying not to laugh.
“Ya Hakku and Tyre have been friends for as long as I can remember. His family doesn’t live too far away, so get used to seeing him around” Mirrii said this with a smile, and laughing at the boys who were now on the ground with bear sitting on them both. “So when you’re both ready, we can go into the village.” Mirrii kicked Hakku’s foot lightly. “When the dog gets off us, we’ll be able to come!” “Aww. But you both look so funny on the ground with Bear sitting on you!” “Maya, come on, help us pllleeaaassseeee?” Hakku said in a whiny voice, but all that got him was another lick on the face from Bear.

“Maya, I don’t know about you, but I think we should be going.” Mirrii winked at Maya. “Oh yes, we still have to find your parents! We had better hurry!”
“Maya come on!” and with one last look at the boys, the girls ran off laughing.

“Uh, you can come back now!” the girls kept running, and Bear just kept wagging his tail.
“ Do you think they’re going to come back?” Hakku and Tyre looked at each other and said in unison. “Nope.” Tyre managing to reach a small stick, waved it in Bear’s face then threw it as far as he could. Bear glanced at the boys then ran after it like as if his life depended on it.
“Ow, Bear’s getting heavier! Now we have to find the girls!” Tyre started running in the direction of the village with Hakku beside him.

In the village, Mirrii and Maya had found Tia, and were talking to her.
“So would it be alright if we went to the spot, and camped there for a few days? We finished our chores, and we’d be all right because Hakku, Bear and Tyre would be there too. We could pack for ourselves, and Maya and I could share a tent, and Hakku and Tyre could share a tent, that way we’d have two tents with us if one gets ripped in a storm or something.” Tia though it out. “Well, you all have worked hard, and I can trust you to not forget anything important? Also you would have to check with Jessie, Tyre’s mother.”
“So it’s a yes?” Mirrii was getting really exited, while Maya was still confused.
“Wait, what spot? Camping?”
“Maya you have already herd too much, but you’ll find out! We better go find the boys to tell them.”

“Where did they go?” Tyre was scanning the road trying to find the girls.”
“Mirrii wanted to ask my mom something, so lets go look at my mom’s booth.”

allrighty! here's the update, sorry its short, but if I fall asleep in math i will fail, and i refuse to so i have to update then get some sleep! ^^ *yawns*

Chapter 6 the Surprise *continued*

“Hey! There they are!” Hakku pointed at Mirrii and Maya as they ran towards the boys. ‘I hope that they aren’t mad, it was just so funny how they looked!’ “Hey! Why did you leave us….” Mirrii couldn’t stop smiling, she was so happy. “Sheesh, you can stop being so grumpy! Guess what?”
“What?” Tyre hated questions not being answered.
“We’re going camping! Tonight, won’t that be fun?” Hakku and Tyre sighed,
“Alright, we forgive you both for leaving us, but don’t expect us to help pitch your tents!”
“Yay!” Mirrii saw my worried look “Don’t worry they may be mad now, but they always help with the camping stuff anyway!” Mirrii whispered into my ear.

When all the supplies had been packed to last them the two days that they would be camping, they headed through the Atoki’s back fields, crossing into the Mitsu’s fields (Tyre’s family’s land). Maya was carrying the tent and her blankets, and the rest of her belongings, while Mirrii carried most of the food, and other necessities. Hakku was carrying his tent and his hunting and fishing gear. Tyre was carrying the rest of the stuff, while Bear had a pack of blankets on his back.

After two hours of walking, they began to hear the sound of water. After a few minutes, the sound was still getting louder. “We’re here!” Hakku said walking through some bushes.
“What do you mean?” Maya said as she followed him, but then gasped as she saw the place where they would be camping.

*Chapter 7 The Calm Before the Storm

Maya just stood on the spot, taking in all there was to see. ‘This place… it’s so breath taking!’ Maya was smiling, they had never seen her this happy. She looked so peaceful, and at home here in the woods, not to mention that she hasn’t been as happy as this since when she came here. Hakku was looking at Maya in wonder.
‘It’s so beautiful’ Maya was looking at the weeping willow, and all the wild flowers, and… a water fall, the water was perfectly clear, and as the water came cascading down the little water fall, the sun light made a rainbow from the droplets.

“Hello, earth to Maya. Maya can you hear me?” Mirrii waved her hand in Maya’s face, bring Maya out of her thoughts.
“It’s amazing! This is where we’re camping right?” Maya looked at Hakku
“Yes, we’re camping here.” Hakku laughed at the shocked, but happy look on Maya’s face.
“Mirrii, could we sent out tent beside the weeping willow? Please?”
“Um, sure, but you’ll have to ask Hakku unless you know how to set up a tent.” Maya walked up to Hakku, and giving him her best pouting face by sticking her lower lip out, and looking Hakku strait in the eyes. “Hakku?” Hakku looked taken aback, and gulped, not sure how to answer Maya. "Will you help me set up the tent under the weeping willow?"
“Just say yes, and she’ll stop looking like a sad puppy!” Tyre leaned over and whispered in Hakku’s ear. ‘It’s amazing how she can go from overjoyed to sad in seconds…’
“Uh sure, I’ll help put up the tent for you under the tree.” Hakku was relieved when Maya went back to smiling at him, and even gave him a quick hug to show him how happy and grateful she was.
“Thank you!” Maya started unloading the tent supplies from the pack on her back.

As Hakku was showing Maya how to set up the tent, Mirrii was collecting firewood and water for the camp, and Tyre was setting up his and Hakku’s tent a few meters away under a few oak trees.

As Maya was hammering in a tent peg, she stopped suddenly and stared off into space. “Maya, you need to put the deeper into the ground, other wise the tent will fly away!” *Sigh* “You could help me you know!” she looked up to see her older brother Apollo looking down and smiling at her. “You will never learn how to fend for yourself if I always have to help you.” “But what if I really need your help?” “Then I will be there, I promise. Now, give me the mallet and let me show you again how to set up a tent.” “Come we must have the meeting now, or else it may be too late…” Maya was shocked, ‘that last voice, it’s so familiar, like the one from my dream.’Maya looked up to see Hakku looking down at her.
“ Well the tents all finished, lets go see if Mirrii and Tyre need any help.”
“I’ll be there in a few minutes ok?” ‘So, that was my brother… Apollo…I wonder where he is right now… and if he is alright.’ Maya walked out from the over hang of the weeping willow’s branches, and saw Bear swimming in the water like a large beaver, and Hakku and Tyre jumping in after him.

Hakku and Tyre came to the surface, their hair plastered to their heads. “Come on in! The waters great!” Tyre called to the girls who stood on the bank watching them.

“Maya want to go swimming?” Maya looked down at her dress.
“In our dresses?” Mirrii laughed.
“No, that would be silly, also it might ruin your beautiful dress, I brought some old dresses and shorts, so that we could swim in those.”
“Oh, ok lets go swimming then!”

When Mirrii and Maya were ready to go swimming, Mirrii jumped right in while Maya hesitated and walked slowly in the shallow part of the river. When the water got up to her waste, she stood there, and watched the others swimming as if they had been in the water most of their lives.

Hakku looked over, and saw Maya standing alone in the shallow part of the water. ‘Does she know how to swim?’ He swam over to her.
“Maya, don’t you want to come swimming?” Maya looked as if she wanted to, but was fighting an inner battle.
“I’m not sure I know how to swim…” Maya said quietly, embarrassed at having to say this.
“Well, I’ll walk with you until it gets deeper, and if you need help, I’ll be right beside you ok?” Hakku held his hand out for Maya to take. Maya was watching Mirrii and Tyre splashing and laughing together. ‘It does look like fun…’ Maya smiled and took Hakku’s hand. They started walking slowly into the deeper water, when the water came up to their shoulders, Hakku warned Maya that the next step would put them in water over their heads, so she needed to kick with her feet and use her arms to stay up.
“You won’t let me sink will you? Promise you won’t.” Maya held Hakku’s hand tight, even though the water was only at her shoulders.
“Maya, don’t worry I’m right beside you and since I’m taller I will still be able to reach the bottom. It’ll be alright.”
“Hey! Are you saying I’m short?” Maya crossed her arms, waiting for Hakku’s reply.
“I didn’t say you were short” Hakku was smiling playfully “I just said that I was taller, I didn’t mention I was a foot taller did I?” Maya splashed Hakku.
“Ok. You just now said I was short!” Hakku’s smile got bigger.
“Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t I guess it’s how you would interpret me saying that you were a foot shorter than me!” Maya sighed.
“Whatever. You better save me if I sink though!” And with that she took another step forward, and felt the ground under her feet disappear, and water surround her. ‘I can do this! I refuse to sink!’ Maya came back up to the surface squirting water from her mouth, and then pushing her wet bangs back from her face. She opened her eyes to see Hakku right in front of her, and wiping his face.
Maya blushed slightly “Oops! Sorry, didn’t see you there!” Maya started laughing at the look on Hakku’s face.
“That’s the thanks I get for making sure you don’t drown? You spaying water in my face?” Maya was blushing even harder now, and was playing with a little rock with her toe. Maya looked up hearing Hakku laugh.
“But, as your punishment, I guess I’ll have to throw you in the water.” Hakku disappeared into the water and came up behind Maya. Maya felt herself being picked up from behind, and then dumped back into the water. Maya came up sputtering. Mirrii, Tyre, Maya and Hakku spent most of the after noon in the water.

When the sun was high in the sky, and they were all hungry, the girls set a large rock with the bread and cheese they had brought, and the boys set up their fishing lines, in the hope of catching some fish for supper.

When they had finished eating, they decided to split into groups, Maya and Mirrii were going to explore the woods with Bear, and the boys would watch the fish lines, and make the camp was more suitable. Before Maya and Mirrii set off, Maya called back “don’t forget to dig a hole for a bathroom and make some walls around it! Bye!”

“Girls, always worrying about the minor details, well lets get started on the ‘out house’ and then we can do what ever.” Tyre sighed, and started collecting fallen branches to make a makeshift wall.
“Be glad you don’t have a sister, otherwise you would better understand what you just said!” Hakku watched the girls until they disappeared into the bushes, each carrying a backpack incase they found anything interesting.
