Goodbye My Love
(Inuyasha and Kagome Fanfiction)

She's flat on her back on the ground wearing her school uniform. She bleeds from numerous wounds on her body. Her vision becomes blurry. Breathing hurts as she turns her head towards the sound of pounding feet that splash up the rain that fell during the battle.
"Inuyasha..." she whispers hoarsely.
"Kagome! No! Tell me your OK!"
"I... I'm sorry Inuyasha. I failed you."
"No! Kagome don't talk like that. Ok? You'll be fine. I'll take you to Kaede you will be better!"
He falls to his knees and gathers her close to his body. He wraps his fire rat clothing around her small frame and starts to run. The smoke is thick from the last battle, the final battle, and the final fall of Naraku. Inuyasha had finally beaten him but when he turned back he saw a demon of Naraku's deliver a final blow to Kagome. Inuyasha didn't hesitate to brutally kill the demon then go and run to Kagome's side.
"Inuyasha... it is too late. There is nothing... nothing anyone... can do."
"Kagome? Kagome!"
"I... I..."
"Shh... save your strength."
"...love you."
A pause.
"...I love you too Kagome."
"Oh," she sighs with tears in her eyes. "I have waited so long to hear those words. Please tell my family... that I love them. Sango, Miroku... and Kaede... Oh... it hurts Inuyasha."
"Shh shh..."
"Kiss me, one last time..."
He kisses her. It's sweet, yet painful to feel her lips trembling against his. He hears the gurgling sound in her throat and sees the blood being coughed up. She takes one last breath while looking into his golden eyes. She takes his hand and holds it to her heart.
“Find peace... Inuyasha. I... will always be with you...”
Then she is gone. Inuyasha stares in horror as he no longer senses her life source within her body.
"Kagome! Baby wake up!"
has no one told you she's not breathing?

'No. She is ok. She is just, resting,' thought Inuyasha as he ran. Yes, Kaede will help her and all will be well! They will think of this day and rejoice on her being ok. Inuyasha will hold her, kiss her, and look into those eyes again. She was just resting is all.

Inuyasha arrives at the village and goes to the old woman's hut. She looks over Kagome and shakes her head.
"What are you shaking your head for, you old hag! Help her!"
"Inuyasha. I am afraid that it is too late. Please, let me help you with that cut on your brow."
"No! Help her! See? I think she just moved, please. Please..."

Inuyasha falls upon his knees and looks at the girl that fell into his life. She was so beautiful and he thought of the first time he saw her. Those eyes, lips, and soft skin. When he saw her bathing he lusted but controlled his feelings. The day he found out that he loved her was the day he stopped thinking of her as Kikyou's resurrected self.
suddenly I know I’m not sleeping
"No..." whispers Inuyasha as he brings his hands to his face.
Tears are in his eyes as he rests his arms against the pallet that held Kagome's still body. His body shakes as the silent tears turn into sobs. He grabs her hand and squeezes it to keep the link between them. She was gone.
He didn't know what to do, for there was no one else to avenge her death. He would just kill other demons while finishing the quest for the shards. Did he want the shards after all of this? Was her death worth finding those shards? No... It wasn't.
'Why her, and not me?' he thinks as he continues to look at the love he had lost for the second time in his life.
“I am alone...”
