Title: Official Canidate debate topic.
Lokey57 - September 1, 2007 10:44 PM (GMT)
Currently We have the following canidates after the nominations were over.
Lokey57
Morsh
Kalieum
GoB
Elite Jeff has been removed from the list upon his own request and lack of time, the same goes for tumbleweedman. They can rejoin anytime if they contact me via PM.
And well, now lets get some questions in!
Tumbleweedman - September 2, 2007 01:01 AM (GMT)
1: Do we need a Admin that does both website managing and Game creating?
Lokey57 - September 2, 2007 02:12 AM (GMT)
According to Steve, the site will likely only allow for 1 real admin, unless someone customizes it to allow more. However it is possible for someone to make the game and simply have the head admin upload it.
Morsh - September 2, 2007 03:44 AM (GMT)
I believe that the latter option Lokey mentioned (that is, having the head admin upload the game for the game designer, and thus having two separate people doing each) is the best and most feasible option at this time.
We don't need an admin that does both website managing and game creating, though it would be a definite plus. Really, since the person creating the game would be in contact with the community through the suggestions database, I don't see any real risk of a loss of game-making ability so long as the website admin doesn't block suggestions inappropriately, but that's highly unlikely I'd think.
Hope that helped contribute to your understanding of the matter.
Voronnen - September 3, 2007 02:23 AM (GMT)
question to all candidates: if you win this election will you be able to pay the high price for director in order to make the game? and, if there ends up being a site admin and game designer, then how will you split the cost? Will the game designer pay for it all? or will they share it? Or will you expect all of us to help pay for it?
Just a few questions from your friendly neighborhood anchovy lover.
Lokey57 - September 3, 2007 03:36 AM (GMT)
I am not currently sure if we will continue with director, if possible I'd keep it web based but it might not necessary be the same engine. There's more than one way to skin a cat after all.
steve - September 3, 2007 02:46 PM (GMT)
I have two questions:
1) When are you going to have the vote?
2) Do you want me to vote?
feline monstrosity - September 3, 2007 02:50 PM (GMT)
1) End of this week.
2) I can't answer that but I think you should; it's your website we're taking control of after all.
steve - September 3, 2007 03:05 PM (GMT)
Ok, thanks for the answers.
I'd like to clarify something. The admin (there can only be one) will be able to:
- update news
- update and edit suggestions
- update and edit comments
- answer contact messages and display them on the site
They will not be able to:
- upload items to download (though I may be able to make this possible)
- make changes to the structure /programming of the site
- upload changes to MR4 or any other games
If you wish to continue MR4, I would suggest setting up a separate site to show it on.
Alternately, you can send me new MRs and items to download and I will add them to the site. I don't think that will be too much for my hands.
mr$ - September 3, 2007 04:00 PM (GMT)
I'm baaack, guys! (Morsh, since you twasn't here, I changed my name from mr# (mr3) to mr$ (mr4) as soon as MR3 came out)
And guess what! (This IS relevant to the situation)
I got to use an iPhone! And I went to TMB. I saw Big Friday Update #65 (last one ever) and freaked. Well, at least I got to read such horrible news on one of the marvels of this age. :D Anyway, then I read "New TMB Admin being elected" (this was on 8/2, a day before "New Admin - discussion started"). So basically, then I felt a bit better, but still, Steve gone! :( And RIGHT when I was going to make a comeback! Darnit! So today, I made an account and blah blah blah.
Anyway, I have one question. Directed more towards Steve.
Does not "stop using the computer to give my hands a chance to recover" indicate, through recover, that there will be, in the near future, a comeback? Or was that just a slipup?

Are you sure you should be typing so much steve? o.o Or did you ask a friend to do it for you?
As for the things the admin won't be able to do, I kinda thought that in the first place, though I do hope its possible to make the admin be able to upload items to download. Since it will allow MR4's continuation to be on the site even though not in the "browser" of that site (Unless someone could fix it up?) yet for those who want to play it in the web. can have it be on another site. (There IS a program to play flashgames off line, I'll give more detail about that later.)

I couldn't immediately afford Director as I'm currently moving into my own place, but within 3 months I could realistically afford to pay the full cost for it.

If anything, your vote is the most important vote! It's your website and you know what's best for it more than anyone.
Copper20 - September 4, 2007 12:45 AM (GMT)
I don't feel like being an admin...
Lokey57 - September 4, 2007 12:59 AM (GMT)
You aren't a canidate in the first place >___>...
Kalieum - September 4, 2007 04:37 AM (GMT)
At what steve said, that's pretty much what I expected being the admin to consist of.
At what lokey said, it's possible to play shockwave/flash games offline simply by downloading the .dcr/.swf file and loading it in your web browser (so long as it's all included in one thing and doesn't need multiple files).
At what Morsh said, steve's vote shouldn't really count more than anyone else's, I suspect there'll be somewhat of a 'steve thinks this person is best so I'll vote for him too' thing, which isn't good, but is also about the same as a vote counting for more than anyone else's vote. I see what you mean, but I feel it would unbalance the voting if different people's votes had different weighting.
At what Voronnen said - It's been said now that the admin will just do the suggestions etc, but I'll reply to it anyway; I would not contribute anything towards the cost of Director or whichever program is used in the end; I would have nothing to do with the creation of the game and it'd be a lot of money for close to nothing, especially considering the difficulty of use, and it'd only be 1 copy of the program.
However, the making of the game is not related to the qualities needed in a good administrator. I would have nothing to do with the making of the game, just the running of the site.
And finally, at what Copper said - What Lokey said.
Morsh - September 4, 2007 12:39 PM (GMT)
Ah, I was saying, if you reread, that I feel steve's vote is the most important vote. I don't mean this to say that his vote should count for more votes than anyone else votes, merely that his vote is likely the more informed vote.
Kalieum - September 4, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
Well, just saying that his vote is the 'most important' is rather ambiguous. I was just clarifying, I guess.
.:Дρρυяεж:. - September 4, 2007 05:01 PM (GMT)
I would support any of you, if you were to become admin.
And I do think Steve should have some say in this.
cjfjcjfjc65536 - September 5, 2007 09:31 AM (GMT)
Because of the magnitude of the matter, I would like to have a say. Of the four at the beginning, I would be quite happy with anyone except kalieum(no offense). Reason is that from my point of view just about everywhere except TMB has a "Look, he's done some tiny thing wrong, off with his head!" sort of attitude. I've been banned four times in various places, and the last thing I want is TMB being turned into a raging inferno by somebody who sets cruel rules (No 1-word posts, No posting in old topics, etc).
Kalieum - September 5, 2007 12:19 PM (GMT)
Heh, didn't think I was very popular with the spammy types.
However, seeing as spam and similar stuff (or stuff like single word replies to increase post count etc) wouldn't actually be an issue or even relevant to the TMB site, you shouldn't worry about that. I handle things differently depending on what they are. I try and treat them sensibly, and that changes from 'thing' to 'thing' (mind went blank for better words).
Also, seeing as steve accepts spammy etc replies on TMB, I wouldn't consider myself to have the right to start refusing them.

You DO realize thats against the rules here right? We're just more lenient >_>. Though if you try to use that as an excuse to violate every rule in existence... I can gurantee you stay here :P.
feline monstrosity - September 5, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
Hmm, I side with Kalieum on that point. Those rules do make sense, or they wouldn't have been made!
Morsh - September 5, 2007 06:49 PM (GMT)
In places where the rules are not to allow thread necromancy or spammy replies, then it's right to follow the rules.
Kalieum has already said that he wouldn't do that at TMB so there's not really an issue there anymore. =]
Master Chief - September 5, 2007 08:10 PM (GMT)
I'd like to know one thing: Could you guys handle sorting out all the messages that will be sent each week?
Other than that, I have no questions.
"τ" - September 5, 2007 11:43 PM (GMT)
in addition to copper's question, do any of you actually have enough time on your hands to do this?
Alex - September 6, 2007 12:39 AM (GMT)
kaliums the most active i think, hey why arent i on the list cmon
"τ" - September 6, 2007 01:07 AM (GMT)
i don't think you can get on the list anymore
Kalieum - September 6, 2007 01:37 AM (GMT)
Time could potentially be a big problem, but I have very little idea of how much time it would actually take each week. All that can be done is to find out by being appointed, and if it's found to be too much, to pass the mantle on to the next person.

If you read the nomination thread, I already addressed this issue, but I'll do it here, too.
I have a super-easy computer job and my classes rarely take up out-of-class time.
Here's just an example of my average free time every day of the week in which I am on the internet:
MW: 7:00-9:00, 1:00-3:00. That's 4 hours, not including time I spend online at home which is generally another hour, at the least.
TTh: 7:00-9:30, 11:00-3:00. That's 6.5 hours, again, not including home time.
Obviously I have plenty of time. =]
Lokey57 - September 6, 2007 04:01 AM (GMT)
Me? I have an online school which I can easily take breaks from to answer a few messages in between lessons, so thats basically 24/7 not counting sleep.
mr$ - September 6, 2007 04:03 AM (GMT)
I'm learning Esperanto online.... *gets back on-topic*
Kalieum - September 6, 2007 11:44 AM (GMT)
Oh yeah, I suppose I haven't said how much time I'll have. I have school Monday to Friday, 8:50 to 15:15, get home abouto 16:00. It's my last year of school so there'll be a lot of work to do, but I'll also have free periods which I could do some of it in. My weekends are usually entirely free though, so I'm sure I could manage to do the updates on Saturdays or something.

You forgot to nominate yourself. Have you been reading anything on these forums for the last week? Nominations were all last week, and do you even consider yourself a worthy candidate? Go read the nominations thread to see how much work there is. And by the way the webmaster has to answer all the suggestions and messages with correct grammar and spelling!!!
OK, I'm done ranting now. Sorry.
Guardian of Butlers - September 6, 2007 02:37 PM (GMT)
Uhhhh, as much as I don't want to say it, you should probably count me out, I have a full workload, last night just alone I was up till 2 in the morning doing homework
Lokey57 - September 6, 2007 04:03 PM (GMT)
I'd rather the site crash and burn before it gets handed to Alex. Ok I'm just kidding mostly but no offence Alex, I have a bad premonition that if people DID give the site to you >_>. It was be massly spammed the next day with nonsensical topics not relating to TMB.
Again no offence, but thats just my feeling of you atm after being your forum admin for over a year.
Morsh - September 6, 2007 05:54 PM (GMT)
Oh, that reminds me.
I was an Approver of Suggestions back whenever steve was using that system and I was good at it. I don't know, it probably doesn't take long to learn, so I don't know if that's a big bonus, but I DO have experience with this particular thing.
Kalieum - September 6, 2007 09:06 PM (GMT)
FWIW, if I had to guess who's going to 'win', I'd guess Morsh.
