Title: T3M's Favorite Game Series Preliminaries
Description: Because I'm Curious
Dual - September 2, 2008 04:08 PM (GMT)
Alright, I'm really curious to see what the favorite series for games is on here, although I'm pretty sure that the end result is going to be, by a wide margin, "Castlevania." Old school and "new school" alike, I want you to select THREE of your all-time favorite series and submit them in a post on here. You may not select more than three, however, you may select less than three if you feel like it. The 10 series that receive the most nominations after 1 week has elapsed will be submitted into the final "contest."
The 10 series in the final contest will be posted in a new thread where people will be able to vote for their favorite. However, voting will not be done via poll, it will be done via posting in the thread. You will be able to select 3 of the series that made it into the newer thread, ranking them from most favorite to least favorite. The first (most favorite) series you select will receive three tallies, the second series you select will receive two tallies, and the third series you select will receive one tally.
So, to reiterate, all you're doing in this thread is nominating 3 series in any order. If you don't listen and pick more than three, I'm picking the first three you wrote. You might want to "shake it up" and put them in an order that isn't necessarily your favorite, so that the finals aren't as predictable.
Voting will end about a week from now, whenever I make a post saying so. All entries before that post are valid.
Note: For a game to be considered a series, I'm going to dictate that it must have at least three, preferably greater than three, entries. Games with only two entries or less will not count (i.e. no KotOR), and you can pick series that do not have interlocking titles. For example, something off the wall like "Capcom Disney titles" would be acceptable, and Ouendan would qualify because Elite Beat Agents is technically like a third Ouendan game.
I'll think of my top 3 sometime later!

Len, since you're the rare exception of a diehard Madden fan who isn't a douchebag in any sense of the word, you are exempt from any fatalities courtesy of me. ;)
Besides, I really like the King of Fighters series, and up until 2003, you could argue those games haven't really changed too much from installment to installment. Maybe that's not the best example, but what I mean is it's all a matter of opinion.

Hmmm. I'm deliberately not going to choose either Castlevania or Contra, simply because of the numerous sub-par entries in both series that I couldn't stand.
That said, here are my picks:
Gradius
Splatterhouse
Strider
Brick McBurly - September 3, 2008 05:14 PM (GMT)
Sengoku Musou
Resident Evil
Splatterhouse

Eh, good point. It's making me rethink what I choose, definitely :S
If I go simply by averaging all the games in the series I like, Mega Man won't come near my top 3, or even top 10, and Ace Attorney will easily fill the 1 spot, since each title in that series was very good (though not all of them spectacular).
It's tough deciding if I want to average all of the games in my favorite series, or if I want to pick the series I like that have the games I most enjoyed, individually.

Ugh. You guys have a good point... but I'd still stick by Castlevania because I even liked the less better games of that series. However, much as I absolutely love Contra and Gradius, I think I'm going to offer a bit more company-based diversity and change at least one of them to Ninja Gaiden. I would alter the other one to Bionic Commando, but it has not been a series with many installments, and I can't say I'm enough of a fan of the original arcade one or Elite Forces... though, I do believe the NES BC is my favorite Capcom game ever.
... I must mull over this. :ph43r:
DestronPrime - September 3, 2008 10:10 PM (GMT)
Damn, now I gotta reconsider... Curse you!
Double L - September 5, 2008 10:50 PM (GMT)
Splatterhouse
Shinobi
Mortal Kombat
Matheo13 - September 7, 2008 07:15 PM (GMT)
This is too difficult for me....arrg..my head but I'll go with the ones I'm thinking of now.
Splatterhouse
Metroid
Resident Evil
Dual - September 13, 2008 08:57 PM (GMT)
Mega Man
Castlevania
Metal Gear
I've decided even with the numerous awful entries in Mega Man and mediocre entries in Castlevania, they're still my favorites. They just had too many great entries to discount. Metal Gear may not have had as many installments I like as some other series, but the ones I do like I like a lot.
Also, thread closed! Going to make the finals thread, now.
