Birdbomb, that study was a year ago, have/are they doing more??? I would love to see it benifit Alzheimers. It would make sense that it could, but also with Alzheimers would the patient be able to comunicate that they are having improvement?? It is my understanding that a large number of Alzheimers are pretty much distraught and cannot communicate those such things, I am unsure of that though since I have not been exposed to anyone with Alzheimers and what about the dimensia that I have heard associated with it?
Thanks!!!!

Helping to stop Alzheimers was one of the selling points that was given to me by the cyberonics sales man. It was one of the deciding facts when I went to get mine. It is a Alzheimers is nasty and I don't want to end up with it. But, the chances of me getting it are very strong.
I have a grandmother that died of it.
I have had brain surgery,
and there are other factors but I dont' remember them right now.
I guess it is to bad the whole VNS thing didn't work for me, if all of this is true.

If the sales rep was pumping the VNS being helpful in the treatment of alzheimers, this is unprofessional and UNPROVEN! It shouldn't be in ANY salespitch at this time, until the FDA gives the green light that the VNS IS approved for the treatment of Alzheimers, Cyberonics shouldn't be promoting it in this fashion, The same holds for depression. This is what irks me most about this company, it's like a carsalesman telling me the 4 cylinder compact car and do all the things a heavy duty 8 cylinder truck can do, plus give a better ride.

Oh it was part of the sales pitch, as well as the depression thing! Not to mention the breakfast that was bought for me and my mother at friendlies! He insisted on meeting me some place that he could buy me a meal. Never saw or heard from the guy again.
I don't even know why I ever even thought about dealing with this company!

My neuro pushed the depression sales pitch on me along with the obesity sales pitch, let alone the epilepsy, "A Prime Candidte" I was told. Cyberonics, when I questioned just said that it had been proven but they were waiting on FDA approval. IMO conflict of interest with Cyberonics trying to sell their unit to the patient!!!! Get them out of it, and leave it to the doctor!!!!!

IMO it should be researched for Alzheimers, anything that could possibly work should be studied for Alzheimers, and yes along with epilepsy and depression and such, but the feild hasn't even been touched in medicine for Alzheimers. I would love to see something good come to those people. I cannot even imagine the end of my life being that way.

Nitaria,
You say you can't imagine the end of your life coming like that meaning Alheimers.
Ok if it works for them fine thats great.
People do die of epilepsy and I knew a woman who had a seizure died from that.
Can you imagine dying like that?
I can I've busted my head open on pavement so many times.

Belinda,
I am a BIG advocate for research and CONTINUED research for the VNS in regards to elpilepsy but along with Alzheimers. I do understand that people do die from epilepsy, it is a chronic illness that can debilitate a person and take their life.
And no, I cannot imagine subjecting my family to me having Alzheimers in my old age and for that to be my last years, months days, or whatever is deemed for me.
I personally veiw it as a very undignified way to end the last years of ones life. I would love to see more research done on it.
