Just thought that I would post a warning to those who take Carbatrol, Tegretol or any other carbamezapine product that you should stay away from Darvasette and any other Darvon derivatives.
I broke my ankle years ago and was given Darvasette for pain. It was a dinky little drug that did not thing for my pain, but drove my Tegretol levels to the point of almost being lethal. I only took one, possible two doses and did not like how I was feeling, so discontinued the Darvasette. My Tegretol levels continued to rise over a period of three days until I, though not taking any medication for pain what so ever, began to lose control of my body. My breathing became very shallow and I was obviously in distress.
I was taken to the hospital by ambulance where the ER doctor got in my face and asked me if I was trying to kill myself... Duh...
Always, ALWAYS, double check with your pharmacist (NOT your doctor, like we did) and make sure that there are no drug interactions with your seizure meds when starting a new medication.
Some drug checkers online are:
DrugDigestDrugs.comDrugstore.comThere are many more and I'm sure that your pharmacist would know of others.
It was a close call for me and a scary situation that I have remembered despite the seizures over the years.
Parents: Be wary! I was not able to articulate what was happening to me.
I hope that neither I nor any of you have to experience that again.
