Is there any members out there that is on Lexapro or any other SSRIs that are experiencing loss of sex drive. If so, have they found a solution. I don't want to reduce or get off of Lexapro (because it has worked so well for me), but the loss of libido has become a devastating side effect. Thanks for you input.

Hello Patrick,
I used to take Lexapro and I had loss of sex drive as well. It's a catch 22, if it's helping your depression. Most of the SSRI's do this. You could ask your doctor to switch to another class of medicine. Could you ask your doctor if you could delay taking the Lexapro if you wanted to have sex? Just an idea, I don't know if this would help. Sometimes taking Cyproheptadine (Periactin) will permit you to have orgasm with the SSRI's. But you need to get this from your MD. This helped me, when I was on Prozac. Let me know. Right now, I have no sex drive; and I am not even taking any SSRI's. I'm hoping the VNS will help that as well (?).
Sincerely,
Bonnie

Thanks for your response Bonnie. :) I'll ask my doctor about Periactin. My Psychiatrist has told me that for me to get my sex drive back I would have to drastically cut down or stop taking Lexapro and wait two weeks for the side effect to go away. I tried reducing the dosage but this allowed my depression to creep in (even with the implant medication is still needed for my disease).
Lexapro is a great drug, I only wish that it didn't have down side to it.
I'd hate to give you bad news but your VNS implant will do nothing to change your sex drive. In December I will have it in two years and my sex drive is still dead. On the positive side it was a god send in ending my TRD.

Dear Patrick,
Well, I'm not giving up yet. There are plenty of drugs out there to increase desire  and sex drive. I haven't tried any of them yet. I am on hormone replacement therapy and that is not helping me. I am post menopausal. I am not on any SSRI's and still I have no desire. I just hate the thought of taking yet another pill for something else. I guess I will have to go back to my OB :wallbash: My husband is the one who is pushing me, I really don't want to be bothered with sex anymore. It is a chore anymore for me. I thought getting off the Effexor would solve the problem, but it didn't. It's embarrasing for me to talk about. I just don't want to take anymore pills. I guess I will have to go in to see him. He is very nice though. Let me know if the periactin works.
Sincerely,
Bonnie :goodluck:
