Greetings to all!
I've read on various epilepsy-related sites that if the seizure-slate is clear for a given period, coverage is usually/sometimes granted - of course depending upon the insurer. This makes me wonder if there could be any exceptions out there; are there any insurers that grant to patients with continued seizures?
Anyone currently having live insurance who had disclosed epilepsy and/or seizure history information to their insurer, could you please share that company's name - and/or any others that you may know of that may offer similarly - with me and other message board readers?
Having brought a second child into our family as well as turned 40 within the past year, my wife and I figured we had better get ourselves - and our children - some life insurance, and so we applied for term policies. Well, with myself still having about four (+/-) partial complex seizures per month (while on Topamax, Trileptal, and Lyrica, plus the VNS) and my wife being in perfect health, you can take a pretty good guess who got approved at the lowest rate, and who got denied coverage. This isn't the first time I've been denied term policy coverage, either. The first was an extension of the base coverage of my employer (trying to boost $50K). Again, denied due to ongoing sz's.
I'm sure I'm not alone in this boat. Any assistance could help more than just myself.
Thanks much!!! Chris
Wish I could help you on this Chris.
We are retired military so we have Tricare for Life. Their coverage is very good. Hopefully there is SOMEONE who can give you a few leads. :fear:
Hi Chris,
I understand your dilemna as I too have tried to take out life insurance but have found that it will not cover me, even though I have at times gone in excess of 10 years without a clonic tonic (grand mal). I have only been able to get life insurance through my employers on a group policy and when I leave employment I usually try to see if I can keep the life insurance, which I was able to do with 2 past employers.
Let me know if you do find a private carrier who will cover someone with epilepsy.
