HELLO!! HELLO!! HELLO!!
THE INSURANCE PROBLEM IS SOLVED & OVER!!!! :D :usflag: :punk: :hearye: : party1 : :wavetowel2: : applause : :ROFLMAO:
My Cyberonics caseworker just called me and told me everything is ok in billing at my doctors office. I owe no money. Aetna was right about me NOT paying my half; it will not be billed to me. They should have put that in the EOB on line. IT would have saved a lot of grief and anxiety for me.
So, now I can continue getting charged up!! :yes2: I am SOOOOOOOO relieved; oh baby! I made an appointment for next Tuesday. I am so happy!
That was weird, as I just called my VNS doctor and wanted to know what the *ell was going on; and left her a message. Right after that, my caseworker called me and told me the news. So, I called my VNS doctor back and told her to disrequard my first message.
Thank the Good Lord!!
Sincerely,
Bonnie

That is great news, Bonnie!!! I am so happy for you. I was lucky and the insurance paid for all of my surgery and surgeon's bills. Definitely was not going to argue with them but it did take quite a few contacts with the insurance company to get it done correctly. Hugs!!!

I think this is great. And I hope this sends a STRONG message to all insurance companies. Especially those that say they will pay, then want to back out of it. In my case with my awards letter as it was written that those treatments would be covered.
I'm also glad this lady won emotional damages from the insurance company, boy can I relate to that one. Especially facing a deadly disease. Well, depression is deadly too when it is treatment reisistant. I stated that during my fight with Aetna during that year when I was fighting to get the approval for the VNS surgery.
It's obvious that they cancelled her policy because of the monies due. Now, you know you can pursue legal action against a insurance company. This article should be aired on national TV.
I'm glad you found this piece! You are very resourceful!
Sincerely,
Bonnie

Can someone send me the link? The link posted is not working. I would like to photocopy it and send it to the idiots at Cigna. They have become the bane of my exisitence. To top it off, I got a survey in the mail from thema few days ago about their services.....LOL...Needless to say I didnt give favorable remarks and also said a few things on the side.

Just use the title in the web search. There are several newssites now available. Many news organizations do not allow their articles to be reproduced in any way shape or form. So in adhearance to copyright laws, I only post the link to those particular one, otherwise I'd post the entire article.

Here's one!Health Insurer Fined $9 Million for Dropping Breast Cancer Patient in Middle of Chemo TreatmentLOS ANGELES — A woman who had her medical coverage canceled as she was undergoing treatment for breast cancer has been awarded more than $9 million in a case against one of California's largest health insurers.
Patsy Bates, 52, a hairdresser from Lakewood, had been left with more than $129,000 in unpaid medical bills when Health Net Inc. canceled her policy in 2004.
On Friday, arbitration judge Sam Cianchetti ordered Health Net to repay that amount while providing $8.4 million in punitive damages and $750,000 for emotional distress.
"It's hard to imagine a situation more trying than the one Bates has had to endure," Cianchetti wrote in the decision. "The rug was pulled out from underneath, and that occurred at a time when she is diagnosed with breast cancer, one of the leading causes of death for women."
Bates, a mother of two, said she screamed when she heard about the damage award.
"I am elated," she said.
Bates' attorney William Shernoff said he wanted other insurers to take notice of the award.
"We are going to put a stop to this practice," he said.
Health Net said it was implementing a freeze on policy cancelations that would last until the company sets up a third-party review panel to scrutinize cases.
"Obviously we regret the way that this has turned out, but we are intent on fixing the processes to maintain the public trust," spokesman David Olson said.
The award came a day after the Los Angeles city attorney sued Health Net, claiming it illegally canceled the coverage of about 1,600 patients. City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo also said the company illegally ran an incentive program in which it paid bonuses to an administrator for meeting targets of policy cancelations.
Health Net acknowledged that such a program existed in 2002 and 2003 but was subsequently scrapped.
"It's hard to imagine a policy more reprehensible than tying bonuses to encourage the recision of health insurance that helps keep the public well and alive," Cianchetti wrote in the Bates decision.
Bates had been insured with another company but was persuaded to switch over to a Health Net policy after an agent suggested she could save money.
She said she had undergone surgery to remove a tumor and had received her first two chemotherapy treatments when doctors stopped treating her because her bills were going unpaid.
"I was devastated. I didn't know what was going to happen," Bates said. "It's boggling that someone can do that to you."
Bates went on to complete her cancer treatment through a state-funded program.
Health Net also said it would review its practices and the way its brokers and agents are trained.
