We are about to take our first airplane trip since the scanner implant. Is anyone aware of issues with airport security. We know that he will set off the scanner as he walks through. One of the other sites said that the scanners and wands can turn off the vns. Has anyone else heard of this?
:D HI dcortright!
When I took a flight when I had my VNS, I presented my VNS card to airport security. At that point, they treated my VNS like they would a cardiac pacemaker and escorted me around the megatometer. They frisked me (for lack of better words), and used the hand held wand to check me. They also had me hold my hand over the generator site while they used the wand.
I know of a member here on this site who had problems with her VNS setting being changed when she went under the megatometer.
Also, one side effect I learned about VNS is blood clots. You may want to consider talking to the doctor about getting the special hose (I call them flight socks) to have him wear. They help prevent blood clots. I bought mine at a pharmacy that sells medical equipment, and the price was around $20 for the type that are thigh high. They also sell the type that go up to the knee-those are cheaper. If it is going to be a long flight and he isn't going to be walking much, I would wear the thigh high ones. They are washable and can be used until they wear out.
Take great care and enjoy your flight!

My VNS was turned off when I walked through airport security. Now they treat me like I have a pacemaker and I've had no more problems.
