Title: Hello to all, I have been distracted.
Description: Geodon and cell phones
Bonnie - March 24, 2009 06:39 PM (GMT)
Hello to all,
It's been awhile since I have been here. I am feeling better after the Geodon has been added to my medicines. I was raising Hell all the time about everything and anything. I asked my doctor if I could try Geodon, as it does not cause weight gain. It has made a big difference.
Does anyone know if cell phones are safe to use with the VNS implant? I am also concerned that my doctor has left her practice, but there a male MD there now doing the VNS. I have called him to make an appointment. I'm due to go back this coming June. My depression has decreased to 50% only now. I'm so relieved it's working for me so far.
Hugs,
Bonnie

Hi Bonnie and Welcome Back!
I am glad to hear you are seeing improvement with the new med. I have wondered where you have been... everything else alright?
As for cell phones: I use one all the time and don't have any issues. One time when I went in for a new phone, I did notice that it bothered my VNS so I took it back and got a different phone. Some people have stated that they have had similar problems with bluetooths, but I never had that issue. It was just one certain phone that caused me any problems, so I guess it was the frequency it was transmitting. Just make sure if you get one that you can take it back and get another phone free of charge if this one does cause interference with the stimulator.
Hugs,
Cindy

Dear Cindy,
Thanks for writing me. My son has a cell phone, but I don't use it. And I don't have one, or plan to get one.
Everything else is pretty routine with no trouble, so I'm glad. It's been so long trying to settle down my mind until the Geodon.
Hope you are doing ok, and having no trouble.
Sincerely,
Bonnie

Bonnie,
I had to go on Geodon to stable my moods about a year and a half years after I got my VNS. It worked wonders! Glad it is working for you.

:D Well HI Bonnie!
Just wanted to chime in and say hi! Glad you are doing better and your depression has decreased that much! Do you think it is the Geodon helping or the VNS or a combination of both? At anyrate, glad you are doing good!
Take care!

Dear Labrat & Dispatch,
Hello to you both, and thanks for writing. I think it is a combination of the Geodon & the VNS working. My depression was better anyway (before the Geodon), but the anger/rage was noticeable. It figures.
I want to thank you Labrat for info. re: Geodon. I asked my doctor for it, as I knew from information (that you provided) that it didn't cause weight gain. It does make me dry though, but I can't get away from all side effects. I did manage to cut out one of my night time medications. I'm taking only 80mg per day; after eating dinner. I knew the other psychotrophics/antipsychotic drugs had many negative side effects. There wasn't anything that didn't cause weight gain or other bad effects. I cannot stand the Seroquel; it gave me RLS very bad, so I quit that one.
Hugs,
Bonnie

Hi Bonnie! :hiya:
Good to see you back. And very glad to hear you are doing much better.
The thing about cell phones is that they aren't suppose to interfer but there have been a few reported cases. The best thing is to try the phone out and see if it causes any problems. My friend had a pacemaker implanted several months ago and was warned to avoid using cell and wireless phones near the pacemaker, so he had to use his right ear but even then, sometimes I could hear the interferance on the phone.

I don't have any problem with inteference with my cell phone. I try to use my right ear, but not always.
I'm determined to live my life as normal as possible with the VNS. I do text alot. My children prefer it!
