I was wondering if anyone could help us with information on how to ask the insurance company to pay for the Brand name Keppra which our son has been on for many years. When he picked up his prescription this evening he was told he had to pay $203 for 60 tablets because there now is a generic available and the insurance company wants him to use that form. He also takes Dilantin and Lyrica. His Lyrica costs out of pocket $105 after insurance pays their part. This would take almost his entire 2 week salary to keep this going.
His epilepsy control is very fragile and a change to generic just scares us. He doesn't need anymore bumps in the road.
He has health insurance through the company he works for. He works part time and is doing so well there that we dont want to invite problems.
As best we can tell his VNS has helped him in reducing the number of seizures he has per week.
We would really appreciate any help/suggestions you can give us.
Sometimes these bumps in the road seem like mountains with everything else that is going on.
Thank you all. :So Sad:
:D HI Oldhat!
Good to hear from you! Glad to hear your son is doing ok with his seizures.
No worries on the Keppra...all you have to do is ask the doc to write on the perscription "Brand Name Medically Necessary" and the insurance has to honor that and give the brand name at the lower copay. I am also on Keppra and my Neuro wants me on the brand name and writes it as I have described above so my insurance pays.
Take care and good luck!
