Title: turning VNS back on

lorkon - April 12, 2009 01:42 AM (GMT)
About a yr ago I got a severe headache (in the side of head at 1st then in the back) that hurt so much I screamed. I called my dad to take me to ER. On the way the headache stopped. We don't know if it was due to the VNS but anyway, my Dr turned it off. I haven't had a severe headache again. However, now my sz's occur more often. I'm now thinking of having it turned back on I think it was at 2.

If you have it turned back on DON'T set it at 2. You will need to go through the process of having it turned on for the first time. Good Luck :goodluck:

Often the second activation works better. But like Labrat says, you will have to start at .25 and work yourself back up. Maybe go a bit more slowly and really pay close attention to any and all changes. You might want to consider using a diary.

:D HI Lorkon!

Best of luck to you deciding to get the VNS turned back on. Sometimes people have better respnse if it has been turned off for awhile.

Getting it set high at the start isn't a good idea. When I had to have mine shut off for surgery, the doc explained to me it would have to be set at .25 and slowly work back up to avoid vagus nerve damage.

I think I mentioned to you in a post some time back about occipital nerve damage. Those types of headaches are excrutiating, and affect the sides and back of your head. Even if it is occipital nerves causing the headache, it still could be caused by VNS. The manuals state headache as a symptom, and although the manufacturer has told many people the headaches will go away upon adjusting to the stimulation, that is not so with everyone.

Keep us in the loop about your decision and how you are doing!

Take care!
