Title: Help Finding A VNS Study for Depression

Charles Crumpler - May 24, 2005 06:57 PM (GMT)
This entire depression and treatment is new to me. I have an aunt in her mid 50's and she has been treated for severe depression for at least 20 years. The 20 years have been very up and down for her and medicine and conventional shock treatments are only temporary fixes. She has tried to take her life on numerious occassions. Her most recent attempt has left her needing dialysis and the kidney damage is most likely permanent. With the kidney damage treatment with medicine is impossible to regulate. This situation has led me to research the VNS treatment and I have a few questions.

Are there any current studies going on the eastern part of the US?

Is VNS a FDA approved treatment?

Who and where can I find out more information?

Any information and responces are greatly appreciated!

Dear Charles,

I understand that the FDA finally approved the VNS for the treatment of depression, within the USA, about 2 months ago. Should you wish to confirm this information I'm sure you could obtain it via www.Cyberonics.com - the manufacturer of the VNS.

Best wishes,

Phil
