Title: Alternate colour schemes for High Elves?
Description: Anything besides blue and white!

Lord of the End Times - August 21, 2004 03:28 PM (GMT)
As I've mentioned in other posts, I've started collecting a high elf army alongside my chaos one for a change of pace. I have not yet began painting the elves as I haven't decided on a colour scheme for the army yet. I like the look of GW's blue and white scheme, but almost everyone paints their elves that way so I thought I'd dare to be different. Has anyone concocted any interesting colour combinations to use rather than the high elves common blue and white?

I have a cool idea. Why not paint them like the Romans? Lots of deep reds, whites and golds would look good.

Thanks DeadStar. Actually, I've considered that exact scheme (red, white, and gold) myself. But it's probably the second most common after the blue and white unfortunately. I may end up just going with this or the blue and white, just thought I'd post to see if anyone had any cool alternatives.

I've painted mine with a basecoat of dark angels green for the trimmings cloth, then higlighted with a lighter green. The main cloth itself I have painted with a basecoat of bubonic brown, highlighted with bleached bone and finally highighted with skull white. I hope this helps.

How about painting the largest areas white, belts, pouches and bands green and metal gold? It might remind one too much of woodelf, but I haven't seen it too often.

I would suggest using white as the main colour for clothes with red or green as a secondary. Gold is always good to use for armour parts.

I beg to differ (as usual). I prefer to paint my troops with Silver armour, and my characters with Gold armour. That way the characters stand out more.

That was what I meant, Elf Bitz, I just have a funny way to explain things

I think it could look really great with a great green dragon with a gold belly!

Whatever you do don't paint them black and gold like Whitewolf, it looks terrible!

Black!?!?! For High Elves? Um . . . yikes!

With my Dwarfs I used a red shield and on it a Gold icon, For me it looks real great!
Try to use a lot of gold on armour it looks absolutely fantastic. I wouldn't use bronze for High elfs though!

If you use really dark colours a lot on high elves they look bad. If I remember the paints he used were rubbish too

DeadStar - August 22, 2004 02:27 PM (GMT)
I you use dark colours (Dark purples, black) on high elves, it makes them look like Dark Elves. However, if done just righ, it can look brilliant.

Vecna - August 22, 2004 05:52 PM (GMT)
I think it's too dark for high elf

Lamina - August 22, 2004 06:03 PM (GMT)
I have painted some Dark Elfs in that colour scheme. You can see them on the links below. But they look kind of evil, so I doubt they would go for High Elf.

Executioners

Dark Elf Hag

I agree that that colour sceme wouldn't go with High Elves.

Good painting by the way! :D

Many thanks, now I only have to paint 60 models more to have my finished tournament army

Maybe one could paint high elf with yellow and beastial brown, but I think it easy could look kind of ugly.

My boyfriend Vecna also got tired of popular colour schemes so he painted them red:

High Elf army

The colour sceme isn't bad and again the painting quality's high.

I paint my High Elves blue and white like the ones from the High Elf rulebook but High Elves are my first army and any future army's I collect probably won't be painted like they are in the army rulebook.

As for the yellow and beastial brown (isn't it bestial brown?), I agree that it would "look kind of ugly"

They'd look like a bunch of bruised bananas

That would be the ugliest colour scheme ever. EVER.

Lamina - August 23, 2004 12:46 AM (GMT)
But you will be sure to turn some heads

Oh, and yeah, you're right it's bestial brown, but I'm Danish can't help my spelling :)

Tornado_Creator - August 23, 2004 10:12 AM (GMT)
Simple really ... Having black High Elves will make them look like Dark Elves. I would paint them with Purple and Greens, creating a bronze and metalic purple for armour by mixing in Chainmail with the colours. Gold to highlight Champions in each unit and Lords + Heroes.

Bronze is made by mixing equal parts of Bestial Brown, Shining Gold and Chainmail and NOT adding any water to thin. It need to be thick for the metalic affect. Do not highlight areas of the armour.

You may try a look similar to th Lord of the Rings Elves.
Blue and green (not too strong) for the clothes, gold for the armour and the chainmails, silver for the decorations.
