Title: West Wingers in London
Description: Rob Lowe and Martin Sheen in West End

I haven't posted on here in ages (and the forum does seem a little dead) but I thought I'd let you know that I went along to the Haymarket on Thursday night to see the opening night of A Few Good Men, directed by Aaron Sorkin and starring Rob Lowe.

Lowe has given a few good interviews about how happy he is to be back in London, even after the terrible events of July, and also said that as an actor you've never made it until you've cracked the West End. Lowe played the role of Lt. Caiffey and was pretty good, but fluffed a couple of his lines and looked a little rusty. My friend also suggested that he didn't quite have the stature of a top theatre actor, as he was unable to dominate the stage. Given that it was the opening night, perhaps we were being a little harsh.

I'm sure you'll be delighted to know that Sorkin was on top form again. The stage set was brilliant and some of the devices in terms of changing the stage around and the way actors entered and exited were superb. Another interesting observation was that the audience was much younger than the typical theatre audience that I remember (although it is years since I've been) and there seemed to be a lot of West Wing fans around. Lowe got a terrific ovation, but the theatre was hardly full and there are plenty of tickets still available.

Martin Sheen is also in town, playing the lead role in a satire written by David Farr called The UN Inspector, which is adapted from The Government Inspector by Gogol. This is showing at the National Theatre on the South Bank until October 5 and is rated this weekend as one of the Guardian's top five films to see. I've booked a ticket for a couple of weeks time and will let you all know what's it like.
