just watched the season one episode, forgot how 'human' toby can be at times, seems to have lost that recently! Someone said he was 'the conscience of the west wing' what do you think?

I like Toby - although he is a little too morbid for my taste at times however i suppose someone needs to keep the place sereal lol

Suppose his character is supposed to be the realist of the show and let people know that it is not all photo ops and presidential declarations!

I like Toby as he's the political face of the administration, battling the Republicans on almost anything for all he is worth, but he also has his human side. The dialogues between Sam and Toby were some of Sorkin's best writing, in my opinion.

Toby is the backbone of it all. He is the one that keeps everything in its place... although he does back down a bit too often. He stays quite, but when he speaks most people listen. I also think he has his human side, but to me it seems a little forced when he shows it. I think this is intended though. Toby is by far my faviorite staffer!

totally agree he is amazing, he is the only one who makes me laugh out loud in frnt of the screen, well more so in series 1-4, series 5 and 6 (so far) are just plain morbid. I want some sorkin style humour back in the west wing!
Locutus - January 18, 2005 12:23 AM (GMT)
yeah we all want that but it wont happen any time soon.

I agree.
There is not as much humour in the latter series (5 and 6).
I think that Toby has a very dry sense of humour, which can be so funny at times.

Yeah you don't get a lot of humor from him but when you do they usually are priceless! I just wish they would allow him to open up a bit more... or do I?

The president really seems to value his opinion. Perhaps leaving him only second to Leo when it comes down to it.
Locutus - September 13, 2005 11:24 AM (GMT)
Nah! He is great and funny and smart, but I think that the second to Leo goes to Josh... Toby might come very close, but still it has to go to Josh. I think Josh really values Toby's opinion moreso than any of the others... even the pres and Leo at times. :)
