Title: Mrs Landingham
Description: Delores Vs Debbie

ama - December 28, 2004 04:38 PM (GMT)
I just don't liie Debbie's character, think that there was a real chemistry between Mrs L and Jed, just don't like Debbie as much.

Think in reality she never would have got through the vetting stage when she wrote down that they should poison the President's drinking water.

I think she was brought in to add some humour, ie Josh and being stopped from going to senior staff because he was late was a good scene, but why not just sneek thru Leo's office?

I miss Mrs L!

i have to agree.... debbie just didnt have the same chemistry at all.

and another point whenever we see her desk shes hardly ever thier! - where is she all the time?

i miss mrs L too, think she was one of best characters. sounds ridiculous but had to play back the part of charlie saying she had died at least twice before it sunk in. :( saying all that i do like debbie. would like to see her have a little bit more screen time

I'm with you, ama... Would she had REALLY gotten the job by saying poison the president!? and then there is that episode where she wont let Josh in late... that's all well and good... shows she's going to be a good sec... but then she is hardly AT her desk! grr! I want Mrs. L back... would it be soo hard to bring her back...

Josh: Hey Mr. P, guess what!?
Bartlet: Josh, I don't have time for this.
CJ pops her head in
CJ: Hey, you guys guess what happ...?
Bartlet cuts CJ off
Bartlet: I so don't have time for this... the both of you!
Toby comes in
Toby: I just heard the news. Mr. President you're not going to believe this!
Bartlet rolls his eyes!
Bartlet: For the loved of Mike!
Bartlet begins a rant but it cut off by Leo
Leo: Mrs. L is back!
Bartlet made speechless
Bartlet: BACK!?
Mrs L: That's right Mr. P now be good do stuff right!

HAHA!

I thought I did a good job with Mrs. L too...

Mrs. Landingham, yes she's greatly missed by all. The irony of it all is that the best character development she ever got was in the episode where she got killed. Maybe they could do a prequel someday with Governor Bartlet of New Hampshire with Mrs. L and a new crew. On the other side, that would prevent Leo or Josh or Charlie Toby or CJ from appearing.

Um... why would they do a epi with Gov. Bartlet and Mrs. L in a prequel? Mrs. L has worked at the white house for years. I don't quite remember the amount of years I'll have to look it up but Bartlet says something to the point of Mrs. L has worked so many years at the white house and has never missed a day, not one. And Mrs. L says something to the effect of Mr. Pres. I have worked here before you and I will most likely be here after you. (She was wrong, unfortunately.) I'll find the exact quotes for you and the episodes they came from later.

EDIT: Found it.

QUOTE (The West Wing @ s1 e5, “THE CRACKPOTS AND THESE WOMEN”)

BARTLET Did you guys know she lost two sons in Vietnam? What would make her want to serve her country is beyond me, but in 14 years, she’s not missed a day’s work, not one.

I took that to mean that she had served her country by being his secretary when he was Governor and President. Might be wrong and as I'm not American, don't know if being a secretary for a Governor would be classed as serving your country.

Just assumed that she has always worked for Jed.

Loved the young Mrs L in Two Cathedrals, thought it was great that they managed to get an actress who could talk in the same way as her!

bigblockofcheese - April 4, 2005 10:54 AM (GMT)
but she has only worked in the white house the same amount of time as the president Mrs L was with him while he was governor of N.H. The quote you posted said she has "served her country" not in the White House.

Locutus - April 5, 2005 03:09 AM (GMT)
No no, There is one I remember but have yet to find... it was Mrs. L telling the President that she worked at the white house longer than him and would most likely be there well after him.

I may be wrong in this but I really don't think I am... but hey anythings possible ;) I might be spacing on it! I will try harder to find it and post it... If anyone finds anything that says that she was with him when he was govenor post it but I think she worked at the White House for 14 years... which would be well before Mr. Bartlet!

EDIT: Okay I found out that I was wrong... and I admit it.

QUOTE (Bravo's Offical The West Wing Wepsite)
Dolores Landingham, Assistant to the President (played by Kathryn Joosten)
First Appearance: Pilot
Bartlet's personal secretary when he was Governor and later President. Formerly secretary to Bartlet's father when he was Dean of Phillips Exeter Academy. The character was written out of the show at the end of Season 2, but has subsequently appeared in new flashback sequences.

Although I found quite a few pages saying that Mrs. L worked at the White House for 14 years too, the offical site on Bravo says different. So for the sake of the cannon I am wrong.

The Jackal - April 13, 2005 08:13 PM (GMT)
Whatever is said, the episode when she dies is prob my favourite. Bartlett's outburst in the church and arriving in pouring rain to the press conference with 'Brothers in Arms' by Dire Straits as the back drop was riveting and the song was in my head for a week.
